Dentists are probably going to be happy as clams with all of the extractions and fillings they'll have to do in the near future.
64
Niceromancer 5 days ago +67
Sure they will make money but they generally prefer people do maintenance instead of coming in for extractions etc.
67
Aurizen_Darkstar 5 days ago +21
Most do, yes. But there are still those that won’t look a gift horse in the mouth. I’ve dealt with both types, and prefer the ones you describe, obviously. 😂

I just assume that the horse's mouth is the first thing that any dentist would look at. Source: a proctologist /s

Idk, every dentist I've seen is always swamped with appointments one after another looking super stressed My current one is always in and out, onto the next person asap keeping up with their schedule Doesn't seem like they want any more work, lol

Many people don't understand how important your mouth is to fighting disease. You digestive tract is probably the number two hero for fighting disease right behind your skin. Rotting teeth leads to higher rates of infections.

TallShreddedShyBoy 5 days ago +115
Honestly, dental care should be included with healthcare. You can literally die from an infected tooth, and dental problems in general, do lower people's quality of life. Broken, missing and infected teeth should be covered under general healthcare.

You know you're actually shooting yourself in the foot by saving dollars instead of bitcoin... over time the trade is always going to be less Bitcoin for more dollars and more dollars for less Bitcoin.  Bitcoin is deflationary.  Everything gets cheaper.  Dollars lose value as its inflationary.  Everything gets more expensive.  If you want more food gas, clothes and specifically more dollars to have in 5 or 10 years you better save in Bitcoin

Fluoride is more important than people think. The city of Calgary cut fluoride from their water systems and a year later the number of kids with nasty teeth problems skyrocketed. The city decided to put it back into the system.

I feel like we are only ever like 2 generations away from forgetting why we did any given OBVIOUSLY and UNIVERSALLY good thing. Two generations, and someone says "This is dumb, why are we spending money on X?" And we have to re learn the consequences over and over. This applies to public works, public health, education, urban planning, international relations, economics, whatever you want.

SpikeHyzerberg 5 days ago -11
most of my state has no fluoride in public water like 75-80% ..over 70 years Portland OR has not fluoridated its water cavity rates would rank among the 15th lowest in the U.S. compared to statewide data from the CDC, we have similar dental decay rates to fluoridated cities regional dental habits, access to care, and economic factors played a larger role in cavity rates than water fluoridation alone
-11
RockPaperOwFire 4 days ago +12
Meanwhile the quickest of google searches shows that Oregon has some of the worst children’s oral health in the nation. 49% of children get cavities before they’re 9. And 35% of that 49% are untreated due to financial cost.
12
SpikeHyzerberg 4 days ago -9
look at rates between income, rural v/s urban has nothing to do with fluoride in the water. it has to do with how well parents take care of their kids oral health.
-9
RockPaperOwFire 4 days ago +10
Except when you compare places that fluoridate that problem doesn’t exist. Weird. It’s almost like we add fluoride to water because it helps and it’s a NATURALLY OCCURRING MINERAL OUR BODIES NEED THAT GETS REMOVED IN TREATMENT AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. The “taking care of your oral health” is access to f****** fluoridated products like going to the dentist and getting a fluoride mask on your teeth. So… FLUORIDE. SOMETHING THAT CAN EASILY BE GIVEN TO EVERYONE. Y’all are so harmful to human health Jesus f***. If you can’t compare data properly stop having an opinion on the matter that’s already solved science. “It only hurts poor people without dental care access” WOW ITS ALMOST LIKE THATS WHO IT HELPS THE MOST.
10
SpikeHyzerberg 4 days ago
"already solved science" topical application like from $2.50 toothpaste is way more effective and safer than systemic fluoride. there is plenty of science proving its toxicity. it is not just the 170 communities in the US that have stopped it since 2010. Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, and Germany—do not fluoridate their water, often citing ethical or health concerns.

In my city (Aurora Colorado) we don't add fluoride because it's in the water supply from the mountains at just around the recommended level. That is true in a lot of the Denver metro area. Colorado Springs actually removes some fluoride from their water because naturally it's there in super high amounts. The Springs is actually the reason we found out the effects of fluoride. https://coloradosun.com/2024/12/09/colorado-springs-fluoride-rfk-jr/ *Residents’ teeth looked gawdawful — stained dark brown with what the dentist, Dr. Frederick S. McKay, called “mottled enamel.” But there was a shockingly low incidence of tooth decay in those chocolate-colored chompers*

As concerning as this is, I'm more worried about the effects of the Strait's closure on supplies of fertilizer. Something like 20-25 percent of fertilizer comes through the Strait.

Prices in the US are already up 40-50%, and deliveries are delayed. It's worse for many other nations that are already borderline on food supplies. Trump has the potential to starve millions of people if he doesn't chill the f*** out.

Could this be the reason why conservatives have been against fluoridation for decades? They've been preparing for a war with Iran since the 1960's. They've played the ultimate long game! (/s, of course)

Not surprised, but good to know. The helium (necessary for chip fabs) and fertilizer problems (food) have gotten most of the non-oil commodity attention and they are potentially disastrous. I bet more shoes will drop.

This is great news. You want to protect your teeth? Practice good dental hygiene, and teach your children. Don't force the public to ingest a chemical that's cumulative in the body. You want to drink fluoridated water? Fine. Buy it and drink it - I've seen it in markets.
-33
PopeslothXVII 5 days ago +15
This is like saying we should ban iodine in salt or vitamin d supplementation in milk or calcium fortified bread because it's all "cumulative" in the body.
15
uncager 5 days ago -10
No, but you aren't forced to buy salt, milk or bread containing added supplements. Also, iodine, D and calcium are all essential nutrients. Fluoride is not.
-10
PopeslothXVII 5 days ago +7
Fluoride isn't required but is extremely beneficial to long term health. And the amount in water is so low you'd die of water poisoning long long LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG before you'd even be in the vague vicinity of fluoride toxicity or problematic levels in your system. I swear you anti fluoride clowns don't understand the concept that dose makes the poison AND the medicine.

They won't use mouthwash. We'll just end up with worse drinking water and people losing teeth quicker which will make healthcare and dentalcare more expensive.

Flouride is something one can go without for a week or so. Just put it in the water every three days and you can make it last three times longer.
