It’s always the same — politicians argue, governments posture, and ordinary people pay the price. Millions pushed back into poverty isn’t just a statistic, it’s families losing stability, kids losing futures, and entire communities being set back for years. We talk about strategy and geopolitics, but for most people it just means survival getting harder every single day.

All of that money Iran spent on Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis and other militias could have been spent on the people. Khamenei himself has a net worth of 100 billion dollars. Maybe some of that money can go to the people? Tax the rich 'n stuff.

And the overseas investment properties in the UK for instance.

Very true, England confiscated Russian properties. Why not the Regime's?

It's a great question. Perhaps if they declared the IRGC a terrorist organization, like the rest of the EU...

People must be upset. Keep seeing deleted comments but no idea what they said. They do realize if they delete it too quickly... No one can read them...

Yes I agree, governments should not spend money investing in foreign conflicts to secure company interests

You misread the headline. Had you read the article, your misunderstanding would have been corrected The article is about **global** poverty

That could've been more clear from the title as well... Either way, I hope the Iranian people, who've suffered enough under this regime, are able to break free from them and get the government they want that treats them better.

I think they will feel the need to act on this poverty issue based on the UN Human Rights Watch. And by act, I mean sitting around a large circular table for an hour, nod their heads in agreement, and move into the next round table talks.

They are united in their quest to be UNinvolved and UNinterested

See... There was a UN resolution put forth by Bahrain to re-open the strait... But someone blocked the resolution.

Honestly, that kind of makes Iran's targeting of neutral countries oil depots and closing of the strait even more messed up. It's one thing if you want to target US vessels and block the strait for US ships... As they're the one's attacking you... It's another if your going to sabotage the world economy because your upset.

Iran's economic situation has been on a long term spiral downwards well before this war. One argument is: US and international sanctions by other countries have put a strain on Iran's economy, and furthered their economic troubles. Therefore, the US and international community are responsible in part for the Iranian people's economic situation. Another argument is: The US and EU, among many asian countries have put economic and political sanctions on primarily Iran's regime due to it's actions, which by proxy affects the economy as well. This is has been in response to the regime's human rights abuses against it's own people and funding of terrorism in the region. If Iran's regime wants diplomatic and economic sanctions lifted, then they should treat their people better, and stop doing so many bad things. Instead the regime refuses to change it's behavior, and continues to abuse average Iranians.

These sanctions were put in place due to Iran’s terrorist activities and proxy sponsorships. The Iranian regime is solely responsible for the country’s economic situation; they chose to steal the country’s wealth to fund terrorism and launder the rest.

I fully agree. Just providing the counter argument people often cite.
