So trump cancels green energy initiatives. Then he starts a war with Iran, spiking oil prices. This naturally causes other nations around the world to adjust plans to ramp down fossil fuel usage *even faster* than they already were and switch to green energy. And who will be there to fulfill their needs for new green infrastructure? China. Art of the deal, folks.

At least the Chinese EVs are super nice…

And c****! From what I hear at least...shame we can't get them in the states.

They spy on you. Don't buy them.

This argument just isn't that persuasive to me these days. I think it was after DOGE stole data for their commercial use but it seems like spying/stealing data inevitably happens, might as well get a cheaper/nicer thing

Hope people that are peddling the "China spies on people" stuff are as up in arms about Five Eyes spying on them.

Don’t worry, they’re not. The people who were rallying about Obama building concentration camps through FEMA and using data from the Patriotic to fill them… couldn’t care less about Musk using data from DOGE and ICE actually filling up deportation camps using palantir.

China is not the only country that makes clean energy infrastructure. Your argument makes no sense.

I don’t take criticisms from 28 day old accounts.

If only they hadn't spurned nuclear a couple of decades ago. Better late than never

[It's much more expensive on the whole than any other major form of renewable energy. ](https://www.forbes.com/sites/dianneplummer/2025/02/12/power-play-the-economics-of-nuclear-vs-renewables/)

You will still need to get your base load from somewhere. If you're a country without access to hydro, the cheapest pr MW is still nuclear. Renewables are cheaper in a vacuum, but can't keep a grid alive with today's battery technology.

Not everyone. Germany loves Gas. The politicians hate green energy and want you to dripfeed gas and fossil fuels directly into your veins. We now look at crazy prices to heat our homes this winter, because the idea to switch from natural gas heating to electric one via heat pumps is "Woke and green" which is bad in the eyes of our conservative government. And don't forget windmills, they kill birds and contaminate the surroundings with "bad frequencies". At least based on the two leading parties in our politics...

theixrs 4 days ago +3
Yep they are one of the countries that lobby hard for tariffs on solar panels and EVs
3
Blubbpaule 4 days ago +10
And even worse - the ones who vote for the far-right parties BELIEVE IT. They DO believe that vaccinations kill, that Windmills kill millions of birds every second and the frequencies causing cancer. It's insane. We are fighting an uphill battle, where dumb people think they'll get rich by voting for far right putin friends. We could have had mandatory heat pumps in every home. But no, a limited natural ressource "is the future". Ugh. I am so angry and i can't change it.

the funky thing its the car industrie that for years now tell everyone workplaces will be gone if we switch no EV. I have no idea who they think they will be selling to outside germany soon, as everyone else is switching...maybe they should admit they did f all for years and now cant compete anymore...

gtfckdbrnlssbts 4 days ago +1
except they are doing quite well in the EV department? the EVs are easily one of the best available and are increasing market shares in europe and saying "they did f all for years" is just... plain ignorant and false?

I think their biggest issue is they're not making these themselves. If you want to be independent you need to be able to build your own systems at least on the continent.

Meanwhile the US cancels windmill projects cause they're too loud and kill birds

Koala_eiO 4 days ago -5
Volume and bird kills are legitimate concerns. It's not why the US cancels wind turbine projects, it's because of oil lobbies. The lack of hedges and the massive amount of pesticides used in farmed areas is a much bigger bird killer than wind turbines.

trentgibbo 4 days ago +29
Bird kills is not an issue at all and you should stop perpetuating it. The fact is, a similarly sized skyscraper kills more birds.

> The fact is, a similarly sized skyscraper kills more birds. Is it supposed to be a great comparison? Like if we're putting thousands of skyscrappers everywhere in the countryside I'd be worried of their impact.

Releasing tons of poisons and CO2 into the atmosphere kills lots more than birds.

LiveToLoveAndLearn 4 days ago +8
Bird kills is really a concern? Maybe I should spend more time under one to change my perception of the problem. At the moment I think it is a non issue. Maybe I am wrong.
8
IntelArtiGen 4 days ago +4
> Bird kills is really a concern? It depends. Thet do kill birds. But climate change will surely kill billions more living beings than all our attempts to replace fossil fuels.
4
Tuesday_6PM 4 days ago +3
Not to mention climate change and pollution from fossil fuels! We could also mandate bird-safe glass on buildings, if bird death was a real concern, rather than slash regulations on pollution and try to open up national forests for resource extraction

I’ll take nuclear over wind

There is currently a push to build nuclear reactors within the USA, goal is to have 10 new “large” nuclear reactors under construction by 2030. Im particularly interested in TerraPower and its use of sodium for both coolant and energy storage.
6
IntelArtiGen 4 days ago +7
> Im particularly interested in TerraPower I'm not. These guys have been trying to build nuclear reactors for 20 years, received billions, and have nothing to show. Others should also try, being able to build a reactor in <10y should be a top priority. Less theory, more welding.

sounddude 4 days ago +4
Nuclear is more expensive than most every other form of renewable energy even wind. So why do you think it's better than wind? > [According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the LCOE for advanced nuclear power was estimated at $110/MWh in 2023](https://www.forbes.com/sites/dianneplummer/2025/02/12/power-play-the-economics-of-nuclear-vs-renewables/) and forecasted to remain the same up to 2050, while solar PV estimated to be $55/MWh in 2023 and expected to decline to $25/MWh in 2050. Onshore wind was $40/MWh in 2023 and expected to decline to $35/MWh in 2050 making renewables significantly cheaper in many cases. Similar trends were observed in the report for EU, China and India.

It will be interesting at the back end of this year to see the stats on EV car purchases this quarter onwards. I think EV sales will be going through the roof right around the world.

Is it just me who finds the EU's regulations inexplicable in how they sue anyone of their own who tries to subsidize starting up new companies? You cannot compete with China in a new industry unless you are willing to play their game, and part of that game is massive subsidies in some form to get new entrants into the market off the ground.

Well, at least something good will come out of this stupid war. America, under Trump, will do everything they can to make sure that America trails the rest of the world on reducing fossil fuel dependence.

The Ukraine conflict already prompted a hard pivot in Europe to alternative energies, looks like our moron in charge is going to see them double down.
