Recession? The man is built on bankruptcy. Lucky if we **only** see a recession.

A recession is bad enough, but central banks are more flexible than before (like 1929-1932). Heck, probably wouldn’t trumpet this too much as a decent recession actually plays into someone’s French-fry greased orange hands in wanting the Federal Reserve to cut short term rates. Of course other countries (not wanting their exports to become “unattractive”) will follow though there’s slight differences in each central bank.
Also most analysts agree oil prices won’t come down anytime soon as long as the Iranian regime can threaten the Stait of Hormuz. The oil execs are looking at fast profits but unsustainable as this time around we are talking “demand destruction” \[unlike 2020-2022\] according to Barron’s converge of the CERA energy conference right now in Houston (Barron’s a financial magazine with a serious paywall).
It’s been past time to look at alternatives..

If only Trump had been the isolationist we feared he was and spent his 4 years destroying his own economy. Instead he turned out to be a 19th century imperialist and is spreading the pain around the world. Everywhere but Russia and Israel.

It's Trump.
The emperor has no clothes. Every story warns us about this, and people like him. It's Trump.
Trump is the problem. Trump because of Project 2025 and Heritage Foundation and billionaires.
It's Trump. If this is getting repetitive, it's not, because many people cannot even see it.

>It's very likely that the Democrats will take back the House, and perhaps the Senate in the mid-terms. This will limit Trump somewhat, starting in January 2027.
That is, assuming Trump just doesn't find more Fettermans among the Democrats who will vote against his impeachment or on limiting his war and tariff powers.

Bush Jr was the same issue of "emperor has no clothes."... and we got 9/11, the patriot act, and 20 years of war in the middle east, and the great recession out of that.

The US president is a Republican in his second term so this isn’t a surprise. It was inevitable.

And we still have 3 years left of this second term. Cuba is next and over 195 other countries left.

It's almost like nations dependence on foreign oil is a threat to national and economic security. If only the experts have been warning us about this since the oil supply shock of '73.
Oh, wait. They have. Hell, even the US Army War College got onboard with this back in 2015.

It wouldn't be a problem in a world where people get along. Unfortunately with leaders like Trump that is unlikely to happen.

You don't need global cooperation when it's in your own intrest to develop your own infrastructure. That's why countries like China and India are taking the lead on renewable development and manufactory. To create the new OPEC, but for renewables. All of the EU is also working hard on their own infrastructure. It's just the countries propping up old, failing, and dying energy sources are just waiting for others to corner the market so they can buy from them.

Interesting how one country holds so much sway that the doofus in office didn't realize, now he's made everything more expensive for his voters, with gas being expensive again.

if makes me so sad that of all the horrible, long lasting consequences trump is bringing down on the US and the world, that so many people are just focused on "gas costs more now".

To be honest gas costing more means EVERYTHING ELSE is going to cost more in comparison too as the transportation companies have to take a larger cut.
They don't carry your food into stores with bicycles.

yeah but im talking about severly worsening climate change, opening up previously protected lands to logging and mining, healthcare falling off a cliff, etc. yeah things are going to be expensive for a while and that sucks, but trump has been a disaster in so many other ways that i think are more important in the long term.

If you watch fox news you will often see the use of a single example of an illegal immigrant who has committed a crime. This generates a strong emotional response.
I can say sea levels have risen more in the past 100 years than in the preceding 2000 years, or the global temperature will rise by a certain number of degrees over the next 100 years. These may be interesting facts. They are not very effective as propaganda.
I can list many statistics about the poor state of our healthcare system. However, stories of people who are suffering as a result would invoke a stronger emotional reaction. Emotion comes before action.
A story about a single species affected by deforestation may be more effective than trying to explain how this will harm the environment and contribute to climate change over the coming decades. If this species is cute that would be much more effective than talking about an endangered slug.
Generally, people don't like thinking too far ahead in the future. "Too far" may be a rather short period of time for many people.

It's very sad that world leaders waited for this to drag on into its third or fourth week before beginning to speak out. Even when the consequences of the war hit their own countries badly.

Had it worked, it would have been quite the boon to the West having a much more agreeable regime in Iran. So on some level, they wouldn't mind regime change.
But the odds that it was going work were pretty much nonexistent, which is why no one else got involved. They kept to themselves on the off chance it did work. And if he takes his ball and goes home after a week or two, probably no real damage done. Back to business as usual like the first time around.
The real issue is that he seems to be doubling down on what was obviously a bad bet. They successfully called his bluff knowing he can't escalate to the level that would be required. It would be political suicide, even for him.
So now the world leaders are telling him to stop.

I think he spelled global depression wrong. This is going to smash into the general public lile a run away train. Here in the states people are so financially ignorant that they have no clue. Food price increases alone are going to f*** people's budgets up. Add in fuel at $5-$10 a gallon, possible rationing if this go for months. Oil touches everything.

Oh by the way, during recessions, the rich often get richer as they usually have the assets to buy real estate and failing businesses. You know, in case wealth inequality wasn't bad enough already.
