Trump pushed himself into a corner in a way like putin did but definitely not that drastic. If Iran opens the straight of hormuz it wouldn't be a win for Trump now. Some expert say he now needs either a regime collapse or at least important strategic island(s) at the straight of hormuz. Then he can sell it as a win. But that needs ground troops. Just stopping is a loss.

LimerickExplorer Mar 29, 2026 +171
Taking some islands doesn't do anything to prevent Iran from cutting off the straight.
171
MichalWs Mar 29, 2026 +99
Also these islands are small and can be leveled with artilerry barrages so anything or anyone he puts there will be obiltareted more strongly than the Iranian nuclear program

DashingDace Mar 29, 2026 +19
Kharg is an interesting one though as would Iran blow up such a key infrastructure piece? If they do go for Kharg, which I think is the target , it won’t be to do anything about the straight (it’s to far away anyway isn’t it?) it will be a bargaining piece to end the war. I refuse to believe they are that stupid to amount a mainland invasion, they can’t be that stupid… can they?
19
Beautiful-Tackle8969 Mar 29, 2026 +57
If the choice is between blowing it up or letting it fall into the enemy’s hands, the answer is clear.
57
DiveCat Mar 29, 2026 +33
Exactly. I find it bizarre that people think the country that has been preparing to fight the West for decades and chants Death to America would not burn the entire island before letting Americans have it. A country destroying its own infrastructure to prevent their enemy using it is not a novel thing, either.
33
jellyhessman Mar 29, 2026 +28
>A country destroying its own infrastructure to prevent their enemy using it is not a novel thing, either. That's like, warfare 101. If the enemy can use it, destroy it so they can't.

Chaiboiii Mar 29, 2026 +6
Denmark brought explosives to Greenland, ready to blow up the runways to prevent US planes from landing.

Neat-Bridge3754 Mar 30, 2026 +1
Wow, what a shitty thing to do to an ~~invading force~~ "ally"!
1
Accomplished-Ad5280 Mar 30, 2026 +1
Booming it out means collapsing Iran's main way of income for years ahead.
1
ensui67 Mar 29, 2026
If they blow it up, they’ll probably run out of money and that will be the end of them. If they don’t blow it up, they’ll have to concede to whatever the US and the rest of the Middle East demands. Either ways, bad spot for Iran. They pretty much lost already. Just how bad.
0
LimerickExplorer Mar 29, 2026 +24
Iran has probably written Kharg off at this point. This is an existential fight for them, they'll cut off a couple fingers if they need to.
24
Screamin11 Mar 29, 2026 +3
Straight out of Battlefield...
3
TheDungen Mar 29, 2026 +4
Of coruse they would. Iran is not depdent on Kharg, a lot of their oil is pumped through pipeline.
4
Mana_Seeker Mar 29, 2026 +1
I've heard some speculators say Kharg might be a feint/ploy/ruse/distraction given its publicity recently
1
dweaver987 Mar 29, 2026 +2
But where else we he deploy troops? If Kharg is a diversion, what is his strategic target?
2
Mana_Seeker Mar 29, 2026 +2
I've no idea, anything could happen
2
TheManicac1280 Mar 29, 2026 +17
Ive seen the artillery argument so many times. Its just nonsense. Its not WW2 anymore, Iran itself knowa this. You cant use artillery without control of the airspace. Instead what would happen is just hordes of drones and maybe those sleeper cells Iran allegedly has.
17
dave_the_dr Mar 29, 2026 +31
I’d be surprised if it’s not already set to blow as soon as the fist troops land. They don’t need to retreat and then attack it if they can set up the charges before they go
31
TheManicac1280 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Thats probably much more realistic than some sort of artillery barrage. Iran knows they cant get into a conventional battle with the united states and come out on top. Idk why listnookors seem to think otherwise lol.
1
LimerickExplorer Mar 29, 2026 +31
Nobody thinks they can win conventionally. Nobody is arguing that. They don't even think they can win. What they can do is f*** up the world economy for a very long time.
31
agent_flounder Mar 29, 2026 +11
Most people here aren't gonna care who is winning when American bodies get stacked up. And for what? More and more people are gonna be questioning why Trump got us into another Middle East war.
11
TheManicac1280 Mar 29, 2026 +4
That's true. Especially since this is the worst start to a war ever. No clear goal and massively unpopular
4
StrangeMan18 Mar 29, 2026 +14
Like the 90-95% of Iran’s missiles and launching capabilities being decimated and then later finding out that only 1/3 of them were actually destroyed right? The US or Israel never seem to lie? This will be America’s Ukraine if they do go in and Iran slaughters their troops, Trump’s ego won’t let him withdraw and he’ll pour more and more, at least Israel is happy that their arch nemesis is being destroyed at the expense of American lives
14
Ran4 Mar 29, 2026 +1
90 percent decimated so 9%? What..
1
TheDungen Mar 29, 2026 +2
If the US tries invading the Iranian mainland the US will lose.
2
newintown11 Mar 29, 2026 +11
Yeah idk, iran is launching ballstic missiles and cluster munitions still. Seems like they could wipe those islands if tlus troops land on them
11
TheManicac1280 Mar 29, 2026 -3
I mean do you think the generals in charge of the hypothetical invasion wouldnt prepare for that? Its one thing to patrol a whole country looking for artillery, but its much easier to do patrolling only the area in range of the island.
-3
lateambience Mar 29, 2026 +12
>I mean do you think the generals in charge of the hypothetical invasion wouldnt prepare for that? I mean, I have the feeling there's a lot of other things they did in fact not prepare for that should've been kinda obvious.
12
TheManicac1280 Mar 29, 2026
Generals are not politicians. If you work as an engineer and you've prepared many plans for various bridges. Then one day your ceo, who has an MBA and no engineering experience, comes, he looks at a steel bridge you designed and says. "Actually were making this out of wood and were doing it tomorrow" then that happens and its a disaster. Then he puts you or any other engineer on it and says. "Alright fix this" do you think youll continue with the wood design or that the approach would look a bit more knowledgeable? You understand thats how the goverment and military works right?
0
lateambience Mar 29, 2026 +2
Well that egomaniac CEO will just replace you with someone else if you don't build the wooden one. So you either stand up for yourself and get fired or you're a "yes" sayer that will just do whatever the CEO tells you. Or maybe just maybe there's only "yes" sayers already put into place by that CEO. So the worse wodden bridge it'll be. He'll tell you to fix it and he will deny and change it the same way he did the first time. You're contradicting yourself. You're telling me that CEO is wrong once and after that he'll suddenly do a 180 and let the engineers handle it?
2
dave_the_dr Mar 29, 2026 +3
That’s the whole point, you’re arguing that the US would win a conventional war, which requires a conventional military deployment and not that CEO with no degree in engineering coming to f*** things up at the last minute. I don’t know who planned this whole escapade but it wasn’t someone with any experience of what they’re doing and if this was an engineering job I’d be sending out my CV and getting the f*** away from that employer as quick as possible. Sadly a lot of those soldiers on the way to fight a badly planned war are tied to their job for healthcare and education so they can’t leave
3
TheManicac1280 Mar 29, 2026 +3
You're missing the point dude. There will be no conventional war, that is what im trying to tell you. Iran is not going to try and use artillery like the comment i responded to said. If it was a conventional war the fighter jets and battleships can make up for the huge numbers disadvantage. Iran knew this, they never planned to fight the US airforce or the US navy. Their plan is to use a conventional army rank structure, equipment and training into an unconventional war. The kind theyve been funding all around the middle east. When Pete comes on tv and says the Iranian navy and airforce has been destroyed. Hes not lying, but its only been destoryed because Iran didnt bother with it. They knew they were never going to catch up to the US there. Just like they know if they set up an artillery location, that turns the battle from unconventional to conventional. Which both me, you, Iran all understand would be terrible for them. It doesnt matter how many artillery men are on the ground when a flight of fighter jets fly over head.
3
nietzscheispietzsche Mar 29, 2026 +5
The ones who got fired or the yes-men who replaced them?
5
Heyyayam Mar 29, 2026 +6
Do we have real generals anymore? Or just TV celebrity generals whose requisite for employment is a strong jawline and good hair?
6
newintown11 Mar 29, 2026 +2
What do you mean? Have you not been paying attention? Generals were replaced with fundamentalist yes men. Memos about bringing about armageddon have been circulated
2
OkStop8313 Mar 29, 2026 +1
It doesn't seem at all clear that said generals are being allowed to make decisions. It doesn't even seem clear that their advice is being listened to.
1
TheManicac1280 Mar 29, 2026
Its possible they continue to not listen to them. But I think that's unlikely. Its like working as a human resource specialist, CEO suddenly fires half the workforce and then tells you to fix it. They definitely didn't listen to you when it comes to starting this process, but now its up to you fix it. They dont have the knowledge or even the interest to do waves of rehiring themselves. That doesnt mean it would suddenly and magically be fixed. Its still going to look really really bad. But it would drastically look less stupid.
0
OkStop8313 Mar 29, 2026 +1
You've managed to make me feel more optimistic about our chances by reminding me of corporate dumbshit fuckery. Thanks, ya jerk.

Except a smart HR person would bounce and find another job in this situation. Only an idiot or fanatic would stick around.
2
MichalWs Mar 29, 2026 +4
Look at Ukraine -- thelis war was described as back to WW1 where troops were dug in trenches and constant artillery barrages were used against them. It so important that a big part of the news was devoted to reporting how Europe produces not enough artillery shells.
4
IdeaJailbreak Mar 29, 2026 +3
Critically though this pertains to a war without clear air superiority. And with waves of drones this is more of a grey area than it has been in the past. Artillery is big, slow, and expensive. If you don’t have the means to prevent the opposition from destroying it with impunity then you are not going to use it. The fact is that the US can and would destroy artillery deployed to hit these islands. In the wider context though, it really doesn’t matter. Iran can just fire waves of drones and missles rather than artillery if the US were occupying this island for years. China would love to test their weapons tech in a proxy war, and will learn just as much as the US from such an encounter without dirtying their hands.
3
Kellar21 Mar 29, 2026 +4
They don't need artillery, just mass missiles and drones, and the main island (Kharg) is too close to the coast and Iranian positions for missile defense systems to work properly; they simply would have little way to protect any troops they land there. And going on a land war in the mainland is probably a nightmare, something like Vietnam 2.0, Iran has a lot of troops, a lot of guerrilla fighters and a lot of the population probably wouldn't cooperate with invaders. Not to mention land war in Iran itself would basically get public opinion in the US even worse than it already is. They can't win a conventional war with the US and they know that, so they would fight unconventionally, something they allegedly have been preparing to do for decades.
4
TheDungen Mar 29, 2026 +1
foc ourse youc na use artillery withotu controlling the airspace, ask Russia and Ukraine. Neither control their airspace and bth manage to use artillery.

Not really. The threat is the problem, not the capability. Even a possibility of a mine or rocket barrage taking out a ship will close the strait. To prevent Iran from halting shipping, you need their cooperation. Or you need to completely topple the regime.

Trump would never admit defeat, and has managed to falsely declare victory amid some pretty extreme losses before. He doesn’t need ground troops or anything from Iran. 2020 Election, Complete and total exoneration under the Mueller Report, “resounding success” “cleaning up” D.C., even claiming he’s had talks with Iran. He can sell anything as a win, there are enough people in this country like him, physically incapable of perceiving defeat, loss, or pushback.
16
jpric155 Mar 29, 2026 +3
Bro there's no way they are going to take and hold any island in the middle east without taking HEAVY losses.
3
CosineDanger Mar 29, 2026 +9
Sometimes adults just have to take the L. At this point I'd only snark a little if the strait was reopened and the entire incident was memoryholed.
9
Guy_GuyGuy Mar 29, 2026 +8
It won't be memory-holed. Even if Trump is removed and arrested today, a government doesn't allow the assassination of its leader and the next dozen or so most powerful men in line and just return back to normal. If the US wants peace, Iran is going to get concessions and it's going to get nukes.
8
anders_hansson Mar 29, 2026 +3
If Trump manages to open the strait, it's not a victory, it's just a reversal to the state before the invasion (minus any progress made in the pre-war talks). This war is probably the most epic blunder during my entire lifetime (and I thought Putin held that position).
3
tb30k Mar 29, 2026 +1
Very true.
1
TheDungen Mar 29, 2026 +1
Sunk cost fallacy, he wont win if he invades either. Iran is to big, has too much people under arms, and is too well frotified. He'll just lose even more lives.
1
DoomguyFemboi Mar 29, 2026 +2
The biggest issue with him is he can't be wrong. Like physiologically, he's incapable of it. From wild claims that are easily disproved (and then being called nasty), to *literally taking sharpie to a map of hurricanes*. He is incapable of being wrong, and it will drive him to keep on doing worse and worse things. It's also important to remember that soldiers are expendable to him, and I mean that in the most drastic sense. They're all his pawns, and he revels in the power of life he's been given. There really is nothing in history or whatever that can parallel this. A malignant narcissist was given the reins to the world. We're fucked.
2
JamesTheJerk Mar 29, 2026 +2
You may be underestimating the nutty American propaganda machine. It ain't free thought. A large number of Americans will see a semblance of this, and it *will* be like, "America slays the awful beast that hates America!" And that's all they will ever know.
2
Crudstaceous Mar 29, 2026 +1
The thing about Trump though is that it doesn't actually need to be a win. He just needs to think it is. Trump regularly touts embarrassing losses as wins. He's sounding more and more like he actually has no idea what's going on and he's being manipulated by the people around him.
1
Mr-Dotties-Dad Mar 29, 2026 +1
Trump takes L’s all the time only to turn around and say he won and it’s great. Dont think he really gives a damn.
1
vdek Mar 29, 2026 +1
No, they’re more like to take Kharg Island and use it to force Iran to open up the Strait of Hormuz. Open the strait, or lose access to your oil infrastructure. American troops will likely stay there permanently while providing access to Iran.
1
Opposite-Bit6660 Mar 30, 2026 +1
The American people want the loss.  We don't want to be there.  Trump's fortune and family need to be stripped of everything to pay for their arrogance, destruction, and their murders.
1
Most_Nectarine_592 Mar 29, 2026 +143
Ofcourse he will do something. He will manipulate the stock market and make money. What does he have to lose? Nothing! He will probably be dead in less than a year because of some disease
143
The_Awful-Truth Mar 29, 2026 +286
Trump has to do something. Many countries only have a few days of oil left, businesses are closing all over the world, the entire world economy is on the verge of sliding into an oil recession (or depression). If the US tries to continue with things as they are for even a few more weeks, practically the whole world will turn against them. At this point Trump really has no choice but to either escalate or admit defeat, implicitly or explicitly. He's not going to admit defeat.
286
Repulsive-Party6267 Mar 29, 2026 +197
Interestingly, the whole agenda of war has shifted to just “open the strait” … which was already open before the war.
197
The_Awful-Truth Mar 29, 2026 +38
It does seem absurd that they could spin that as a victory, but if anyone could do it Trump could. He doesn't know squat about governance, but he is brilliant at propaganda.
38
ocram101 Mar 29, 2026 +39
I mean, isn’t that the classic Trump move? F*** something up, back track, then claims victory for “*fixing*” the f*** up that he initially created.
39

How about this? He's good at finding equally stupid, if not stupider, people to grift because that's the only demographic he can successfully grift.  I'm not excusing his actions; I'm saying he's been a con artist his entire life. Look at how much legal shit just does not stick to him. Look at how he's able to convince morons that they need a Trump phone, a NFT, a bible, a pair of "gold" sneakers, an unsubstantiated claim that he was nearly assassinated, etc. He IS good at spinning the news. No one here is saying he's awesome; denying he's good at grifting is foolish.
12
The_Awful-Truth Mar 29, 2026 +1
How do you think he got elected twice? Certainly not by being a good president. Clinton and Harris were bad candidates, but not bad enough that that's the whole explanation.
1
Baynonymous Mar 29, 2026 +1
They're also women. The American fascists don't like women in charge.
1
The_Awful-Truth Mar 29, 2026 +2
We elected a black man, twice, who was less qualified than either of the women but a considerably more skilled campaigner and more appealing personality. Sexism certainly exists, but I doubt that it's a bigger barrier than racism.

2
CleanAxe Mar 30, 2026 +2
Ain’t no way the straight is open to any US ships unless the US makes concessions. Orange man has been backed into a corner at this point - a cease fire will require US concessions (Iran has already demanded reparations as starting point for negotiations) and a ground war will probably take a long time to play out so it’s a lose-lose for the US at this point. Maybe in 30 years it’ll look like a beneficial move if the regime changes in any positive favor but I doubt it - and 30 years is generous lol.
2
zombiekoalas Mar 29, 2026 +92
Sure, except this doesnt stabilize the situation. If Iran chooses to do what they've already threatened - destroy the desalination plants in neighboring countries it will plunge the region into a resource crisis the likes we've never seen.   Fresh water.  This will only exacerbate the oil issue.  Almost like we had no f****** plan going into this.
92
Kendertas Mar 29, 2026 +34
Litterally 10s of millions of people could suddenly not have access to water. I don't know how the world even begins to deal with that. Not exactly a surplus of fresh water in the broader region. So do you fly them out and if so where?
34
Mindless_Ad5714 Mar 30, 2026 +2
I think that would be difficult due to the short timeframe to do it, the fuel crisis, and the sheer number of people. Instead, I think it would be the worst humanitarian disaster in recent memory
2
The_Awful-Truth Mar 29, 2026 +14
Absolutely, attacking and occupying Kharg and other coastal islands would be a foolish move; the odds for a long term outcome better than just admitting the mistake and settling up are very poor, somewhere between 10% and 0%. But that never stopped Trump before.
14
-JackBack- Mar 29, 2026 +11
It’s a completely foolish move. I expect Trump to attack the island shortly after his family sells the S&P 500 short.

High gas prices, though, are a much more serious thing.

I think there exists a chance that Trump pivots and tries to completely blame this whole thing on Israel. I don't know exactly how he would try to make it make sense, but it would allow him to keep from having to admit fault or strategic defeat, and it sounds like the American public is reaching the limits of its appetite to low kowtow to Israel anyway...
28
Caymonki Mar 29, 2026 +51
He won’t do that, they hold the hard copy of EVERYTHING in the Epstein files He will let countless troops die or be maimed before he considers turning on Bibi.
51
intimidator Mar 29, 2026 +11
People keep repeating this. Could you point me to some literature that confirms that Israel has the hard copy/ proof of everything.
11
Seanspeed Mar 29, 2026 +20
There is NOTHING that anybody could have on Trump that would hurt him at this point. We saw an Epstein file that vividly describes Trump raping a 13 year old and it didn't do anything.
20
Caymonki Mar 29, 2026 +10
We saw heavily redacted files and accusations that were never followed up on. We didn’t see shit. I suspect Israel has actual video evidence, pictures and documents that are not redacted. There’s claim Epstein was Mossad and based on Maxwell’s father I would agree. So let’s say Bibi has more than ample blackmail on everyone not just Trump.
10
aj3x Mar 29, 2026 +14
Honestly, even if they release videos, trump would just say it’s AI and his base would eat it up. These people don’t care unless it personally affects them. The gas prices are the best bet. Sad as that is.
14
AnAlternator Mar 29, 2026 +3
It's not the base that Trump has to worry about, it's the midterms. He *loathed* being investigated, and one of his deepest fears is being investigated *again*. Not because of any political damage, but because it was personally inconvenient and triggering. That's the real concern for him - losing the House and Senate and facing hostile committees again.
3
BlueTreeThree Mar 29, 2026 +2
He’s been wallowing in this Epstein shit pile for months and months already, an unpopular war and economic crisis are coming for the kill politically.
2
AnAlternator Mar 29, 2026 +2
Yes, and Democrats are doing spectacularly in special elections since Trump's election. Trump is going to do Trump things, but there's a difference between making his political situation worse because he's an idiot, and making it worse because he consciously chooses to make it worse. He's repeatedly done the first, I do not believe he's going to do the second.

I have a possible answer to that, which could already be going on. Foreign bots/trolls on social media pushing anti-Israel lines and the news networks Trump's supporters watch or the people they follow turning against Israel. While I don't remember the news sources, already algorithms have shown me a few headlines allegedly damning to Israel. I first noticed it maybe last week or two weeks ago. Whether or not the content is true, however, may not matter to those who would be easily convinced or want to see Israel in a bad light. I'm just generally skeptical of most information and prefer not to visit sites, just read the headlines and comments about the content, for my safety and sanity.

He’s definitely throwing people under the bus. Hegseth is first in line. Then maybe Kushner who despite not being a member of the government is somehow involved in this.

OkStop8313 Mar 29, 2026 +4
He does, however, have a remarkable ability to retreat while claiming victory without much pushback from his base.
4
The_Awful-Truth Mar 29, 2026 +2
GWB had the same ability, until the housing bubble popped. My guess is that $7 a gallon gas, and a resulting recession, will be Trump's bubble pop.
2
OkStop8313 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Yeah, nothing like financial hardship to make benefit of the doubt evaporate.

The_Awful-Truth Mar 29, 2026 +1
Well said.

Mrikoko Mar 29, 2026 +6
There is nothing he can do militarily. A ground invasion won’t change shit, it’ll only exacerbate all those issues and result in thousands of American deaths.
6
The_Awful-Truth Mar 29, 2026 +4
It would very likely fail in the long run but it's possible that it would seem like it was working for a while, which is all you would need to convince Trump to go for it.

Chemical-Shallot-964 Mar 29, 2026 +3
Look what he's doing to Cuba, countries running out of oil doesn't worry him.
3
The_Awful-Truth Mar 29, 2026 +2
They're simply going to ignore what Trump wants and pay Iran the toll for passing through the Strait.
2
marcoporno Mar 29, 2026 +2
He can just declare victory again and take the same deal Obama got, except with better terms for Iran His base is too stupid to not know it isn’t a great military victory
2
slayermcb Mar 29, 2026 +3
And our soldiers lives are the blood price of his hubris.
3
Franc000 Mar 29, 2026 +2
Pretty sure the boots on the ground, ten thousands of US Marines, that we know so far, means the answer is escalation.
2
The_Awful-Truth Mar 29, 2026 +2
Sure looks like it. I guess there's still a chance that he's bluffing, that the Marines are just to try to scare the mullahs and Revolutionary Guards. But doubling down on the stupid seems more Trumpian.

Perhaps Iran could consider not holding the world hostage. But terrorists need their human shields.

moral_mortal Mar 29, 2026 +6
Iran has the right to defend itself, right. Israel and US attacked them during negotiations and killed school children, nothing new for IDF but US is eating shit for it. Strait was open before the illegal war, right? It is still open just not for everyone.
6
Ngothadei Mar 29, 2026 +2
Perhaps Americans and Israelis should refrain from bombing school children and universities nor attempting to invade Iran.
2
redonkulousness Mar 29, 2026 -2
He’s gonna try and nuke Iran. I can almost guarantee it. I just hope the military leadership will refuse, but I have no faith in that happening.
-2
The_Awful-Truth Mar 29, 2026 +3
It's hard for me to imagine it coming to that. But Trump has consistently proven crazier than you think, even after taking into account that he's crazier than you think.
3
ScandiSom Mar 29, 2026 -5
Trump doesn’t hold the winning cards, Iran does. They could simply attack the designation plants in the gulf countries, which would massively depopulate these countries and completely cut off the oil supply. That’s well within Iran’s capabilities.

Trump is as thick as mince.

SSkilledJFK Mar 29, 2026 +10
Any ground attack would mean lives lost. They are probably working on how to spin the headlines depending on the number of soldiers killed. Like, “How many deaths until we lose the Senate?”
10
jordanwiththefade Mar 29, 2026 +49
It is going to take missiles hitting our cities for the Senate, Congress, and the Supreme Court to realize they need to do something… and even then, I have no confidence they will do anything to remove him from power.
49
SparksMKII Mar 29, 2026 +36
If your senate, congress and supreme court had any inkling to stop this madness they would not have been this passive af. The US is heading in a direction where I highly doubt non-violent democratic processes would ever be enough to take your country back.
36
WorstAverage Mar 29, 2026 +25
They will blame it on Islamic extremists trying to kill us all and we will need to be drafted
25
theborgs Mar 29, 2026 +3
Somehow they will also blame Biden and Obama...
3
Defiant_Moment_5597 Mar 29, 2026 +5
If that happens every senator and or congressman/woman is going to treat it like October 7th. Pretending nothing ever happened before. They’ll claim Iran was unprovoked and they still hit us.
5
TimelyToast Mar 30, 2026 +1
\> and even then, I have no confidence they will do anything to remove him from power Removing from Trump from power would make Listnook happy but does absolutely nothing to resolve this crisis. Iran won't love the US just because Vance or even a Dem is in power. The Strait won't magically open especially if Israel keeps bombing. All it does is push the responsibility of cleaning up the mess to other people. And Dems don't want to be responsible for cleaning up this mess (if they are smart). The political blowback they receive either from the public or their Israeli/Middle Eastern donors or whatever will be massive. As the opposition party, the most politically expedient thing to do is just to wait out whatever Trump has planned.

I mean they literally gave Iran weeks to coordinate with everyone including terrorist groups.

Afghanistan taught the military nothing. They watch the USSR in Afghanistan for 10 years and learned nothing. Iraq, Vietnam, and Korea also taught the military nothing. Iran will be another disaster.

Bush invaded Afghanistan before the the investigation into 9/11 was remotely complete, to avoid the public demanding war with the Saudi.

The mountain bunkers of Iran will make the cave complexes of Afghanistan seem like a walk in the park

What? The opposite. Kabul was the only success story. It was the countryside that was the issue.

How is Iran holding the strait when they are decimated? Wouldn’t an attack on the ships and artillery holding the strait be more prudent? Basically whatever Hegseth is planning. They should do the opposite.
-9
Professional_Deer464 Mar 29, 2026 +15
All it takes is a single drone hitting a single ship for insurance companies to make the route unviable.
15
Under_theTable_cAt Mar 29, 2026 +6
I think a lot of people here are looking at Iran from satellite pov. The terrain and geographical make up of the area will make invasion harder. Guess weve never learned from Afghanistan and Iraq. Lots of casualties are from guerrilla warfare and unconventional means. I think all the competent generals have either been fired or retired.
6
-JackBack- Mar 29, 2026 +18
Iran is not decimated except in pentagon press releases. In the real world Iran just destroyed another KC-135 and E-3 at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia.
