Looks like both sides are targeting oil production. That seems.. uh.. bad.. for our gas prices.
848
Equivalent_Range6291 Mar 19, 2026 +469
Well who\`d have thought that starting an illegal war in the gulf states would effect gas prices ..

Im beginning to think this FIFA peace prize is a bullshit award

I don’t know how you’re seeing this, but at least to me the FIFA peace prize has recently lost a lot of its prestige.

Give it to the board of peace, it's just as effective

Yes, give the Bored of Peace the trophy that looks like the hands of Hades reaching up to grab our planet.

hopefully people come out of this realizing that conservatives are an existential threat.

Yep, the messianic right wing religious nut cases of the US establishment will be the end of the World as we know it. i.e. A living breathing pleasant planet in a Solar System of beautiful but dead of life planets ..

vorpalWhatever Mar 20, 2026 +1
What Dems are condemning this war? The most I hear is Trump didn't plan it well enough. At some point you're going to have to recognize it's the US as a whole that's the problem.
1
Non-Limerence Mar 19, 2026 -13
I like how 35 thousand innocent Iranian civilians can be slaughtered, and intervention happens to keep the murderers from getting nukes, and its a loss of oil for the United States, against the age old accusations that the US only does anything for oil, and you smooth brained giants of intellect call it an "illegal war" while you twerk on hamas rockets at the funeral of a monster like the Ayatollah.
-13
daywall Mar 19, 2026 -18
If only that golf state wouldn't have funded/train terror groups to attack israel, and uses that money to focus on their own country then they wouldn't have been in that war.

Elon Musk...
-6
Equivalent_Range6291 Mar 20, 2026
Elon Musk is shitting himself about fuel prices because he relies on petrochemicals for his rocket fuel to make him the first person ever with the ability to go walk on Mars.. but doesnt because he doesnt have the balls to .. Instead someone else will make history as the first person ever to die on Mars.
0
Joranthalus Mar 20, 2026 +3
He probably has the government footing the fuel bill.
3
Equivalent_Range6291 Mar 20, 2026 +1
He does buddy & do you know whats sickening.. After the War, i mean the *real* coming war, this Mars mission & things like it will be used to distract from the horrible insidious things that are about to come in to play. What we\`ve seen so far is nothing In comparison & i am including the 37,000 innocent lives taken in the ongoing genocide .. I dont & i am not downplaying that number but it will be a fraction in comparison when they send in ground troops very very soon. Its already a done secret deal, Netanyahu once again has got his way! Americans will pray that they took heed of \`American Boots Belong On American Soil.\` Take care .. Be safe.

Iran is using a tit-for-tat strategy. If their oil infrastructure gets hit, then Gulf oil infrastructure gets hit. They are also announcing where they strike and the specific reason why (as in, ‘we struck the oil infrastructure in x country in retaliation for missiles launched from their territory.’)
33
kinglouie493 Mar 19, 2026 +10
Good for the oil companies...
10
madogvelkor Mar 19, 2026 +17
Well, the ones outside the Middle East, anyway.

1
NiobiumThorn Mar 19, 2026 -4
Eh, insurance. They aren't crying
-4
StrongAroma Mar 19, 2026 +16
Insurance doesn't usually cover damage from war. But even if it does, they won't be covered for long.
16
jackalopeDev Mar 19, 2026 +2
I saw something about one of the very large facilities probably taking 3-5 years to get back up and running. While insurance probably helps, i doubt it will offset everything.
2
littlebiped Mar 19, 2026 +6
_The_ largest facility. On the planet. And it got hit again today.
6
Aazadan Mar 20, 2026 +1
Insurance pays for rebuilding it, in part. It doesn’t speed up rebuilding it. Qatar supplies about 1.43% of world oil, that facility is 1/6 of their production, so about .204% or 1/500 of world supply. Which might not sound like much, but that alone will cost you probably 10 cents/gallon for the rest of this decade
1
Granum22 Mar 19, 2026 +3
Up until the point where people actually stop being able to afford gas
3
essinew Mar 19, 2026 -1

Trump blamed the Iranian attack on Israel and said the US didn't know about it and Warren Israel not to do it again
4
janethefish Mar 19, 2026 +3
Typical liberal. Trump is doing more for green energy than any Dem ever would have and he's being criticized for it. He's literally blowing up the oil extraction infrastructure and you still aren't happy. He even tricked Iran into helping! ;P
3
AutoDefenestrator273 Mar 20, 2026 +1
Had us in the first half, not gonna lie.
1
Krillin113 Mar 19, 2026 +3
This seems like by far the best way for Iran to get pressure on Israel and the US to behave tbh. It’s destructive, but it’s clear they have a strategy, they also warn them every time that if they do x, we’ll return with x. The Islamic republic can suck it, but they clearly have a plan and are sticking to it. Masterclass in asymmetric warfare imo
3
Johannes_P Mar 20, 2026 +3
> The Islamic republic can suck it, but they clearly have a plan and are sticking to it. Masterclass in asymmetric warfare imo Compared to Trump, the IRGC is smarter and actually able to plan.

Not just gas prices, literally everything in the economy revolves around petroleum costs. Plastic manufacturing for one.

And it's not like closing the straight of Hormuz. You can open or close it in a day by saying you will or won't attack ships. The price increases are here until they are rebuilt.

At least maybe now more countries will decide to stop Iran’s military capability

with money given to it by the US, of course.

The “and” meaning the US is paying for this twice. Not that we don’t deserve it.

NOLA-Bronco Mar 19, 2026 +5
Oil is a fungible commodity sold on a global market. If Israel can't get their own oil they have to buy it elsewhere and that drives up the global price.
5
Silly-Sink6138 Mar 19, 2026 +4
That’s not how the market works

Absolutely wild to reject alternative energy sources, green renewable energy, and EV's because they're woke, soy, and gay or whatever nonsense the chud say. Then attack the nation that can easily put a stranglehold on the world's supply of oil. I've heard it's actually good to put all your eggs in one basket.

I have the best egg baskets. People everywhere are jealous of my egg baskets. They come to me and say “Donnie, nobody makes egg baskets as sturdy as yours.” Especially when Biden stole my election. Oh the egg baskets were terrible under him. The eggs were so expensive you couldn’t even put 6 of them in a basket, let alone a dozen. A harrible basket and a harrible president we had…

NOLA-Bronco Mar 19, 2026 +6
Horseshoe Theory might actually be real after all, just not in the way it was hypothesized MAGA is so stupid, shortsighted, reactionary, and high on their own right wing propaganda that they managed to be so Fascist they ended up turning into radical eco terrorists accelerating the destruction of Big Oil more than any militant environmentalist could have dreamed of achieving in their lifetime

Destroying big oil with no alternatives in place… China saw this coming from a mile away
3
incunabula001 Mar 19, 2026 +5
No shit. The whole point behind renewables and EVs, besides the environmental benefits, is that this county is truly energy independent and some situation in the Middle East doesn’t hold the U.S hostage. The era of fossil fuels is coming to an end, this will accelerate green energy adoption.

1
meeyeam Mar 19, 2026 +1
It was the cost of baskets that was bringing up the price of eggs! By reducing the number of baskets, Trump single handedly brought down the price of eggs! Now give him his ballroom and get back to work! /s

Not only that, but not even refilling the strategic oil reserve despite unusually low oil prices and promising to do it during the election campaign
1
Canuck-overseas Mar 19, 2026 +148
Hate to point out the obvious here. But this is precisely why previous POTUS withheld attacking Iran...... I mean, GW Bush was an oil guy, he knew very well how delicate all that infrastructure is.
148
actuallyapossom Mar 19, 2026 +47
They also had the intellectual capacity to understand and believe what the military told them about conflict with Iran. I think both issues are hugely problematic with this administration. They're going to be very motivated economically and politically; then they're going to be greedy, shortsighted, ignorant and inept about whatever they do.
47
C_Gull27 Mar 19, 2026 +12
Iran was definitely a huge problem in the region but one that required a much more delicate touch than this. There was clearly growing support for a more secular and liberal government there and we should have given support there. Now that opportunity is squandered.
12
HungryCurrency8481 Mar 19, 2026 +17
Iran elected a reformer who signed a nuclear deal with the US, which was promptly torn up by a geriatric toddler because a black man made fun of him on TV that one time. This was despite Iran complying with the agreement. The toddler then blew up their nuclear sites and killed their leader while negotiating another deal. I can't imagine why the hardliners wouldn't trust the US anymore.

And just think, the smartest thing that Trump could have done was… to do nothing. If he sat on his fat, corpulent ass and done absolutely nothing, we’d all be in a better situation. Instead, he opens his fat mouth or does something incredibly stupid, and stupid things happen that negatively affect everyone else.

Israel knew hitting Iran's gas fields was going to cause this tit for tat escalation and did it anyway. Why does the US continue supporting such an "ally" so clearly operating against US interests.
176
Reality-Umbulical Mar 19, 2026 +49
Netanyahu would never have this opportunity again, they played trump like a fiddle. Israel knows it's unleashed chaos but they believe they can "do enough" ie fragment Iran into a subdued state... it's just not quite working out like that yet
49
AbanoMex Mar 19, 2026 +3
Maybe it could have worked, if they didnt bomb a school full of little girls, that would only make the resolve of those people much stronger to resist.

Regime change was never the endgame for Israel. They have Hamas absolutely cornered and still let them live. Because ultimately Israel needs adversaries to justify its existence and approach. If there was no persistent threat, there'd be no need for Israel to exist as a state.
1
DragonflyOwn6849 Mar 19, 2026 +74

It doesn’t stop to Trump sadly. So many Us presidents support what Israel is doing, including democrats
12

Right, that's probably why I said "Trump *and other leaders*"
1
KennyShowers Mar 19, 2026
To a degree, sure money and good deals on weapons, but for somebody in his position to go along for this actual unbridled region-wide chaos is unique. Don’t get me wrong Bush brought plenty chaos to the Middle East, but at least that was for our own stupid reasons and not just to fulfill some apocalyptic kink of a foreign government.

1
Aazadan Mar 20, 2026 +1
Everyone knew it would. Here’s the thing though, the response has still been restrained because Iran is doing this to discourage more oil attacks. Once they have less to lose, they’ll attack oil infrastructure at more disproportionate rates.
1
Honest_Concentrate85 Mar 19, 2026 +3
US is an exporter of oil. US oil companies are benefiting from the price increase while everyone else suffers the rising costs

Because this war is absolutely in the U.S. empire’s best interests, they are one of the few governments on earth who have consistently stood up to the U.S. and therefore the U.S. has an interest in bringing them to heel.
-7
Meta2048 Mar 19, 2026 +6
So in your eyes, the next step is that the US should start wars in Russia and China?
6
ilevelconcrete Mar 19, 2026
In my eyes, the U.S. should withdraw from all its imperial wars and occupations and pay massive reparations to the people it has harmed. Unfortunately, I’m not in charge here.
0
Decent-Law-9565 Mar 19, 2026 +2
Clearly it's not working and will not. If anything they should have learned that even if you could somehow capture the leadership, unless you have buyback from the locals it's all from nothing and guerilla warfare is nearly impossible to fully get rid of.
2
ilevelconcrete Mar 19, 2026
Define “working”. Does the U.S. seem particularly opposed to long, pointless military occupations that mostly just inflict harm on the people they’re occupying? I don’t think so, so the fact that things are heading that way perhaps isn’t the loss to the U.S. empire that you think it is.
0
Decent-Law-9565 Mar 19, 2026 +1
The USA was in a much better place to do this back in the 2000s, when the national debt was only a few trillion. The national debt today is an order of magnitude higher, and interest rates in 2003 were significantly lower than they are today. Finally, China was not the military and economic threat it is today.

Israel doesn't care. [They get their oil from Central Asia and Russia. ](https://oilchange.org/publications/an-update-on-the-origins-of-israels-fuel-supply/) >[*Behind the Barrel: An Update on the Origins of Israel’s Fuel Supply*](http://behindthebarrel.org/), details the global fuel shipments that fuel Israel’s genocide in Gaza. The report tracks over 21 million tonnes of crude oil and refined fuels delivered to Israel between November 2023 and October 2025, including jet fuel used for military aircrafts. The data shows that Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and the United States were among the largest suppliers of oil and refined products during this period. While direct shipments from Brazil appeared to end in early 2024, [evidence suggests](https://www.esquerdadiario.com.br/Como-o-petroleo-brasileiro-vira-combustivel-na-Italia-pra-abastecer-Israel-e-o-genocidio) that Brazilian crude may have continued reaching Israel indirectly via Italy’s Sarroch refinery in Sardinia. >Russia was the largest supplier of refined fuels, accounting for nearly half of total refined products. Yeah. Israel has been gorging themselves on supposedly sanctioned Russia oil over the past few years. People focus on how Trump lifting sanctions helped Russia, but it also really helped Israel secure a fuel source out of range of Iran's counters.
1
RightofUp Mar 19, 2026 +8
That’s not how this works. The total supply is threatened, which means prices go up. That’s the point.
8
Aazadan Mar 20, 2026 +1
Oil is traded globally. While there can be a difference in available refineries, in general it doesn’t matter who you get it from. An impact anywhere is an impact everywhere.

tmoeagles96 Mar 19, 2026 +2
It doesn’t really matter where the refinery is, the production cuts are felt across the world. The people who were buying the gas from other places will start buying it from the remaining refineries, and those companies will be selling to the highest bidder

Its strange  israel has total air control of the airspace  over  iran   yet iran is still able to launch drones and missilles  to attack israel  I presume they must have some underground missile launchers  or military sites that are well hidden  And drones are quite c**** compared with an expensive  defensive missile  The internet is turned off in iran theres no easy way for opposition groups to organise or to rise up agsinst the regime

I'm not upset about Israel getting their just desserts but going tit for tat with oil fields and refineries, while strategic, is less than ideal from an environmental view

Israel don't care if the entire world starves to death. Or has crippling oil prices. They get billions in aide so they're OK.
