Since the headline doesn't specify and Iran attacks a lot of places right now: The plant hit was in Israel not any of the gulf nations.

exoriparian Mar 31, 2026 +37
It was. They say it was hit by "debris", but Russia says the same thing every time Ukraine hits home. [https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/adama-chemicals-plant-southern-israel-hit-by-iranian-missile-or-debris-2026-03-29/](https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/adama-chemicals-plant-southern-israel-hit-by-iranian-missile-or-debris-2026-03-29/)

I should know better but disappointed in supposedly reputable news sources reporting in this way. Such a shame that propaganda is out there so blatantly

exoriparian Mar 31, 2026 +1
It's important that you file that away. I'm not saying never trust the source again, but just take note. I use a kind of strike system, personally.  Fox and a bunch of others struck out years ago for me. CBS was recently added.

Main objective of the war is to open the strait. What a joke lmao.
73
Internal-Yak6260 Mar 30, 2026 +88
To re open a straight that was open 4 weeks ago. It's even funnier when you say it that way.. lol
88
denNISI Mar 30, 2026 +32
Correction: The Strait is open for everyone except US and Israel.
32
LOHare Mar 30, 2026 +30
In fact, in the words of hegseth, the strait is totally open for everyone if Iran just not shoot at ships.
30
JojenCopyPaste Mar 30, 2026 +12
And Trump said we don't need the straight so why is it our objective?
12
HyperNova1000 Mar 31, 2026 -23
America is energy independent, so they don't NEED the straight. Its both for its gulf allies, its european allies(?), and to lower oil prices on the global market that overreacts every time the status quo changes (see covid).
-23
denNISI Mar 31, 2026 +13
What does the price have to hit before you say it is supply? Obviously US does not have enough for the people and the never ending oil guzzling war, too?
13
HyperNova1000 Mar 31, 2026 -5
>What does the price have to hit before you say it is supply? Considering demand stays the same but supplies was cut by 20%, i would say probably around that or lower since reserves exist. Oh prices went up by 50%, completely disproportionally to the share of supplies reduced? Yea its a market freak out... >Obviously US does not have enough for the people and the never ending oil guzzling war, too? Energy independent literally means just that, they have enough oil that they make to supply themselves without needing to relay on imports. And both aircraft carriers are nuclear powered btw.
-5
huggingacactus Mar 31, 2026 +11
That must be why gas is so c**** right now.
11
HyperNova1000 Mar 31, 2026 -11
Its because the market is overreactive to a crisis, as usual. Its like those people who bought way too much toilet paper when the lockdowns happened, but on a much more impactful scale... Still just as dumb though
-11
The_Motarp Mar 31, 2026 +10
The market is not overreacting, a 20% decrease in supply doesn't mean that the price should only go up 20%, it means the price has to go up until 20% of the demand decides they are better off without the oil than paying the higher price. How many people do you know that are actually buying less gas rather than just complaining about how much it costs to use as much as they normally do? The only reason oil prices haven't gone up even more is all the reserves that are being released to mostly fill the shortfall, and if the straight isn't reopened by the time those reserves start running low we will see far higher prices than they are now.
10
HyperNova1000 Mar 31, 2026 -1
>it means the price has to go up until 20% of the demand decides they are better off without the oil than paying the higher price. Or that the in general, the demand will go down to save costs on the increased price. But nobody is really doing that. When countries have a drought, they try to spend less water. There is an oil drought yet it doesn't seem like anyone is trying to spend less of it. One would think that in europe, where they have done much to reduce their reliance on oil, the effects wouldn't be this great, alas.. And of course its overreacting, the market always overreacts to bad news. Why do you think stock prices for some companies fall when their apps stop working for a couple of hours. because the markets are driven by people and people are prone to panic at times of uncertainty, let alone war.
-1
The_Motarp Mar 31, 2026 +4
You are contradicting yourself. If the current prices aren't enough to significantly reduce consumption then prices will need to get much higher before consumption goes down. And markets can under-react just as easily as they overreact, often companies are obviously headed for bankruptcy long before their stock price drops to the penny stock levels their financials justify.
4
denNISI Mar 31, 2026 +2
Just the fear (especially news hype) of a supply shortage can drive some market demand and account for some increased demand (at the same price range) but it will go back to the supply-demand equilibrium because supply dictates the price range. Naturally, this is not (always) instantaneous and it can be a complete fabrication ie there is oceans of saline water, but the desalination plants in the middle east were hit?
2
off_by_two Mar 30, 2026 +15
Eh not exactly, there are as many as 3000 ships stuck in the gulf right now and very few of them are probably owned be US or Israeli companies
15
GeshtiannaSG Mar 30, 2026 +2
That’s more on ship owners being far more risk adverse than your regular businessman.
2
Renzo100 Mar 30, 2026
They have only banned passage to ships from countries that are attacking them, such as the United States, European NATO countries, Israel, and allied Middle East states; everyone else is allowed to cross. If there were a total blockade, you would see all the other countries in the world complaining and imposing sanctions on Iran.
0
HyperNova1000 Mar 31, 2026 +5
I think people don't understand what's even going on there at all. The "blockade" is iran threatening to shoot at ships that go through the straight, there isn't actually anything there blocking them from leaving, they just don't want to get blown up. Iran just allows their allies (like china) or countries that side with them against the US (like spain) to pass through unharmed.
5
EVpeace Mar 31, 2026 +7
Nobody thinks they built a wall or hung a big net or lined boats up bow to stern across Hormuz, man. You're just describing what all blockades are.
7
Trick_Entrance9044 Mar 31, 2026 +1
So countries that do not use the Strait

Where was this concern when there was acidic rain in tehran as a result of an Israeli attack on a fuel depot?

How dare you! Only god’s chosen people matter! They shall always be entitled to their victim card, despite the fact their country can never live in peace for more than 5 minutes.

Where was THIS concern when 10s of thousands of iranians were killed in the streets by the IRGC? Or when their government was ignoring the water crisis there?
-10
Definitelyhereforshi Mar 31, 2026 +16
> Where was THIS concern when 10s of thousands of iranians were killed in the streets by the IRGC? The primary source for this claim is a fashion blogger named Deepa Parent. Her previous work experience is working at an NGO called Humanity United thats funded by Tech Oligarch Pierre Omidyar. Omiydar has also partnered with CIA fronts like NED in the past.  There's a good write up on this called "Meet the former fashion blogger and shady doctor behind the ‘30,000 dead’ Iran psy-op".  > Or when their government was ignoring the water crisis there? If only there was nothing preventing Iran from developing economically...hmmm... Btw, US sanctions on Iran have killed more than this blown up 30,000 number since they've been in stated against Iran. Where is your concern for them?
16
IaMm1N3 Mar 31, 2026 +5
I'm concerned. You have my attention

HyperNova1000 Mar 31, 2026 -5
>The primary source for this claim is a fashion blogger named Deepa Parent. [https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ckglee733wno](https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ckglee733wno) How about the actual former ayatollah... Or maybe watch the videos of people walking among streets of body bags trying to look for their children. You are too busy trying to disprove some specific statement that you are missing the point that thousands have in fact been confirmed to be killed by the IRGC. >If only there was nothing preventing Iran from developing economically...hmmm... Yes, there is... The islamic regime that conquered them over 40 years ago. When you spend all your money on terror groups in foreign nations, there's no surprise that your country can't actually develop. Who knew? >Where is your concern for them? Probably on its way to hit replacement ayatollah number 24 lol. US sanctions have little to nothing to do with any of this. It may be news to you, but when a terrorist regime has more money, they don't suddenly decide to spend it on their citizens...
-5
Definitelyhereforshi Mar 31, 2026 +6
The IRGC does say that thousands of people were killed, yes. Their numbers were in the low thousands, and they said a large portion (or majoirty IIRC) were security personnel. They've also released footage of "protestors" shooting from crowds of people, "protestors" firebombing mosques, and "protestors" killing random people on the street. It was shown to world diplomats. > Or maybe watch the videos of people walking among streets of body bags trying to look for their children What exactly does a video of people looking at body bags prove? Is there a video with 30,000 body bags laid out or something along with causes of death that were verified for each body? There's plenty of reasonable thing to critique the IRGC for, but this is just conspiratorial blabber driven by the US.
6
HyperNova1000 Mar 31, 2026 +1
>"protestors" firebombing mosques Do you know why? Because iranian were taken over by muslims... What exactly does a video of people looking at body bags prove? That people were killed on mass in the streets? Like do you really need to have me spell it out for you? Unlike you, my threshold of corpses on the street to get me to think a regime might be bad, is not in the tens of thousands. Its almost impressive how often people take the words of terrorists at face value when it comes to how they definitly don't kill innocents, but believe every unbased rumour that the west is.

Considering Trump is threatening to destroy their desalination plants, I’m thinking we can rule out any semblance of caring about whether Iranian citizens live or die (assuming we were overlooking destroying other infrastructure and blowing up a school).
