I mean, this was easily predictable. Iran announcing it's "open" forces the U.S. to have to agree and drop their blockaide, which we can't \_actually\_ do because until minesweeping is done free traversal of the strait isn't happening without a ton of risk anyway.
So the only option would be returning back to Iran controlling traffic through it's territorial waters (and charging a toll), or U.S. keeping it's blockade untill minesweeping is complete. Really no loss for Iran -- they either get their tolls back with no other consequences, or they continue to be blockaded.
