I think their entire annual military budget is like 10billion dollars. But we gave them more than that by unsanctioning the ships that were already at sea. None of what has happened is how the military normally operates. You have all your contingency plans planned, and assets in place for said plans. We have been winging it with zero backup plan for what happens if the uprising doesn't work? The government is so inept they hoped the Kurds would fight their war, while vocally telling Iran so they could preemptively bomb the Kurds and make them say no thank you America. In war you want your enemy to react to your moves. But it's the US who has been reacting to all of Iran's plans. You add in the geographical advantage, and it's clear who has the highest percentage chance to win this. Hint, it's not the US.

My understanding * Iran GDP, approx $440bn * Iran military spending about 2% of GDP So that makes $9Bn military budget, so yeah. 140 ships a day (approximate pre war amount) at $2m a shot is about $100Bn a year.

Hegseth just fired a top general - who knows what the general did not agree to do.  I don't think American people are powerful enough to take this back election time. If they host U.S. military/intel then those are the closest enemy targets Iran can hit. For all the tax payer dollars the US spends on defense, it's greatest defense is that it it really far away from any adversarial nations/combatants. So if they start lobbing missiles and bombs into Iran, Iran has to lob missiles and bombs at the nearest US targets. If there aren't any nearby targets their next best move is to make life difficult for the neighbors who helping/allied with the US. If the US takes out critical Iranian infrastructure (like refineries or desalination plants) Iran will hit similar infrastructure in US allied neighbors.

They also were shooting protestors etc. I do not like our current administration but you would be crazy to think the average American sees Iran as a victim in this. That being said. A ground invasion would be very unpopular because most Americans (from my perspective) see the Iran war as a waste of time. If something happened on the mainland like a drone strike on a mall.... We are in an extremely tightly controlled information environment. We likely won’t know the true extent of damages to US bases, equipment, and infrastructure/commerce for years to come. Ditto damage in Israel. Israel has a whole department to control what is allowed to be reported. Gulf states (and Iran) imprison folks who take videos and images. It’s an all-out information war, in which both sides are projecting strength and hiding/obscuring loss and damage. From our vantage point, we see news and reports skewed to the benefit of our military/gov. In my lifetime, I don’t recall ever experiencing such a tightly controlled information environment.

Air bases and data centers don't just walk over to a new location. Anyone involved in military stuff from any country in the Middle East knows we have planes at those bases. Iran has their own Intel and shares with other countries just like everyone else. If a country wants to know where data centers are it's really not hard to find them, they have the resources to do so. For an air base you can just send out a volley of drones targeting the aprons they usually park on and hope to get lucky.
