Iron Maiden won’t attend Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. After 21 years of eligibility and two failed nominations, the heavy metal giants would rather play shows in Australia than celebrate their enshrinement in Los Angeles this fall. Who could blame them?
From what I understand, it's pretty expensive for bands who are inducted to attend. They have to pay for a bunch of stull (like to reserve the table they'd sit at) so chalk that up as another reason not to go. I mean, I know the band can afford it, but just because they can pay, doesn't mean they'd want to pay.

I was at one in Brooklyn I think 2012 when Steve Miller got in. He tore the HOF a new one, he said he had to pay for his and his wives seats. NWA called the whole thing a scam and refused to play and left right after they were inducted.

I could see not giving a ton of free invites away, but to not at least guarantee a spot for an inductee and their direct families is highly insulting.

It wasn’t even a plus one lol. The nominees and their families and invited guests (vips?), were at proper tables on the floor. This was the Barclays center with over 15k seats all sold out. Really couldn’t pay for their seats?

I saw Steve Miller a few months after that and he spoke about it onstage. He basically said his audience showing up was pretty much his hall of fame. And he isn’t wrong. He still selling tickets. It was a great show. He is underrated as a blues guitarist.
As for the RRHoF, I don’t understand why there’s a voting process. If a band is eligible, why aren’t they simply inducted? It makes no sense to do a nomination and voting process. That just turns it into a popularity contest but that doesn’t even necessarily reflect what’s popular with audiences.

Get paid to play a gig in front of your fans
Or show up to this event, be forced to pay 5 figures per table under the guise that the $ is going to some charity (it doesn’t). Then you can play to a room full of industry peeps, line some board members pockets for the year while they use the threat of bad press to create pressure for your appearance and dictate who’s inducted
The whole premise of a Hall of Fame is ridiculous
Note that has nothing to do with the museum. Totally different organization

Why pay to join a HOF, that has insulted them (sometimes directly) for 20 years, is so desperate for relevance it will let anyone remotely famous in, irrespective of actual eligibility.
The only thing I hope, is it gives Blaze Bayley a career boost and introduces the band to people who don’t know it. Otherwise, like most true fans, i consider it a complete irrelevance and am glad they’ve decided to choose their fans over this complete nonsense.

I would argue the HoF looked at Maiden schedule, looked at the HoF induction date and figured they could finally let them in BECAUSE they wouldn’t come. If Maiden isn’t touring that month? No way they get it. Now they can have Blaze backed by Foo Fighters, Metallica, etc so a couple of songs maybe even Lady Gaga doing something like Journeyman (Maidens only acoustic song) and then let Billy Idol trash the place.
