Iron Maiden won’t attend Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. After 21 years of eligibility and two failed nominations, the heavy metal giants would rather play shows in Australia than celebrate their enshrinement in Los Angeles this fall. Who could blame them?

From what I understand, it's pretty expensive for bands who are inducted to attend. They have to pay for a bunch of stull (like to reserve the table they'd sit at) so chalk that up as another reason not to go. I mean, I know the band can afford it, but just because they can pay, doesn't mean they'd want to pay.

Krimreaper1 1 day ago +292
I was at one in Brooklyn I think 2012 when Steve Miller got in. He tore the HOF a new one, he said he had to pay for his and his wives seats. NWA called the whole thing a scam and refused to play and left right after they were inducted.

LazloHollifeld 1 day ago +216
I could see not giving a ton of free invites away, but to not at least guarantee a spot for an inductee and their direct families is highly insulting.
216
Krimreaper1 1 day ago +66
It wasn’t even a plus one lol. The nominees and their families and invited guests (vips?), were at proper tables on the floor. This was the Barclays center with over 15k seats all sold out. Really couldn’t pay for their seats?

Some would call it a grift

Dogzillas_Mom 1 day ago +18
I saw Steve Miller a few months after that and he spoke about it onstage. He basically said his audience showing up was pretty much his hall of fame. And he isn’t wrong. He still selling tickets. It was a great show. He is underrated as a blues guitarist. As for the RRHoF, I don’t understand why there’s a voting process. If a band is eligible, why aren’t they simply inducted? It makes no sense to do a nomination and voting process. That just turns it into a popularity contest but that doesn’t even necessarily reflect what’s popular with audiences.

Krimreaper1 1 day ago +7
If you’re going to have a vote let it be the fans.

They probably also don’t want to cancel a leg of their tour. They know that’s their source of income.

Ur clearly not a fan. The boys have their own plane. They don’t wanna cancel b/c their fans mean more to them than the sockpuppet show of the HoF

“One way to raise money” to pay the executives generous ‘salaries’. Or to call it what it is: grifting. Nah, Bruce and co have too much integrity to put up with that BS. And 2 failed nominations?! It’s Iron Maiden FFS, not some shitty hair rock impersonators.

Get paid to play a gig in front of your fans Or show up to this event, be forced to pay 5 figures per table under the guise that the $ is going to some charity (it doesn’t). Then you can play to a room full of industry peeps, line some board members pockets for the year while they use the threat of bad press to create pressure for your appearance and dictate who’s inducted The whole premise of a Hall of Fame is ridiculous Note that has nothing to do with the museum. Totally different organization
201
OppositeStudy2846 1 day ago +19
Wait, the RNRHOF is a museum, right?? In Cleveland on the waterfront? What is different here?
19

The physical museum and the show/board that decides who’s in the HOF are separate entities

Indeed. I was a metalhead growing up (still am but more in the progressive metal side) And I grew up on Metallica and Iron Maiden. To me they were 2 sides of the same metal coin. Both some of the most inspirational bands in music. They should have went in together. The fact it's taken Maiden this long to get in is a f****** joke.

It's named the rock and roll Hall of Fame, and it has a lot of rock and roll stars inducted too. But it also has so many non-rock and roll stars inducted they've really become a bit of a joke. Anything for attention. How did some of those pop stars get in before the likes of iron maiden? It doesn't make sense.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke. The fact that there are some hip hop artists in there and some rock legends are not is the greatest example of that. Like Iron Maiden. It's hard to find that many more influencial, relevant, still popular and beloved bands in rock history and they were eligible till 2026? WTF?
2
SamMarduk 1 day ago +2
Just call it the music hall of fame. They haven’t prioritized actual rock in years
2
ismellthebacon 1 day ago +2
Just wtf do you have to do to get in exactly????
2
Accomplished_Tap581 1 day ago +2
Why pay to join a HOF, that has insulted them (sometimes directly) for 20 years, is so desperate for relevance it will let anyone remotely famous in, irrespective of actual eligibility. The only thing I hope, is it gives Blaze Bayley a career boost and introduces the band to people who don’t know it. Otherwise, like most true fans, i consider it a complete irrelevance and am glad they’ve decided to choose their fans over this complete nonsense.
2
SexyCouple4Bliss 1 day ago +2
I would argue the HoF looked at Maiden schedule, looked at the HoF induction date and figured they could finally let them in BECAUSE they wouldn’t come. If Maiden isn’t touring that month? No way they get it. Now they can have Blaze backed by Foo Fighters, Metallica, etc so a couple of songs maybe even Lady Gaga doing something like Journeyman (Maidens only acoustic song) and then let Billy Idol trash the place.
2

I have a question about New Edition. I saw that they won the fan vote but the committee still decided not to let them in. Is this the first time that’s happened and why did they decide not to let them in? Did they think the votes were fraudulent? And I’ll be honest I didn’t think they should be in but they did win the fan vote so I figured hey you know you gotta let them in.
