Is Grease 2 supposed to be terrible?

Posted by JudgmentCareless2844

Watching Grease 2 (high af) and wondering if this movie is supposed to be a parody and ironic or serious!! It’s so terrible and hilarious, I think it’s making fun of itself. It seems too ridiculous to be serious, like the songs and dancing and everything. But maybe I’m just really high and seeing something else…please let me know what you think!

The “let’s do it for our country” song gets in my head way too often. Like why?!

The scene where the girl walks away dancing and spelling "cool rider" over and over again while the song fades out. How far did she get before she stopped?

Hahaha I forgot all about that.

The girl...only Michelle Pfeiffer.

One of the creepiest scenes in movie history. Like a rapey version of 10 Cloverfield Lane, or the old Twilight Zone episode or something.

I watched it on mushrooms one time with my girlfriend. We’re getting married in two weeks

It’s not a great movie, but Cool Rider is the best song from either film, I’ll die on that hill.

I'll dig you a shallow grave, because it's Who's That Guy by a country mile.

It’s campy but misses the mark and is terrible.  Grease 1 is also quite a bit campy and heightened. (They fly away in a car!) but it’s great.

What kills me is that it failed so miserably as a musical. I could have let slide the hackneyed writing of the movie's inane plot if the songs were good, but they just aren't. Not only are none of these song numbers memorable, but they didn't even bother to work them into the story organically. These songs were bad, and they should feel bad, and that they seem to go on forever certainly doesn't help.

Update just watched this scene, I officially say this is total satirical camp silliness

Idk what you’re talking about. I could sing like half the songs right now. Now I’m not saying they are good songs but I don’t think you can say they aren’t memorable.

It was caught in the awkward transition of trying to replicate the original's magic while leaning into the campy excess of the early eighties. The production team definitely prioritized the neon aesthetic and catchy hooks over a cohesive plot, making it a cult classic for those who enjoy cinematic absurdity.

I like it more than Grease. It’s a lot of fun. Terrible, but fun.

Me too. I saw it before I saw the original and like it better.

Grease 2 is a masterpiece. Shooter McGavin. Rex Manning. Liza Minelli's sister. Eugene coming back to be in the sequel for no reasonable reason. The guy with the scars from the first movie coming back as someone different. Michelle Pfeiffer being weirdly honest about her insane biker f*****, and annoying as Hell about Ketchup. The head T-Bird thinking he got a guy killed but getting over it really quickly and still going to the end of school luau. The screenwriter thinking bowling didn't exist in England. It's all brilliant.

I like Grease 2 more because I prefer Michelle Pfeiffer, who is cool, sassy and s***, over the cold fish Olivia Newton-John with her cookie-cutter look and songs.
