As far as I’ve seen the reboot had great reception, great reviews and great ratings. Is it normal they take this long to renew it and that there are no announcements?
The show has been great so far and I wander what happened
It’s going to be renewed. I wouldn’t worry about this show in the slightest. They’re probably tightening up contracts to make sure more of the key players are around.

I hope so, otherwise…. What the hell? The reboot is great, 9 episodes is nothing…. Part of me would rather they hadn’t done it all if it was a one season and over.

I bet 9 episodes means execs had uncertainty if they could reboot scrubs despite the popularity of the podcast.

Yeah there is a lot of negotiating with other production companies for actors time. That's going to be tedious and long.
Honestly considering they rebuilt the set I think this was getting renewed unless it was truly awful.

Carla actually is probably the biggest challenge. High potential is doing really well.

Isn't that also an ABC show though? Plus its only 15 episodes or so a season

Definitely possible what with Kaitlin Olsen being in IASIP and High Potential.

Plus Carla isnt really in there a whole lot this season so it shouldn't be hard for her to bounce between shows

>Plus Carla isnt really in there a whole lot this season so it shouldn't be hard for her to bounce between shows
That's because her other show commitment is preventing her from being on more. Or she probably would have been on way more.

where do they film high potential? is it in Vancouver or LA or somewhere else?

It's all mostly bill Lawrence fighting with himself for his actors. At one point a few weeks ago I realized I was watching 3 of his shows, all new episodes, similar casts.
11
coatimundosApr 16, 2026

But wouldn’t the cast then be more optimistic on socials about it?

No. Part of them posting on socials could be a ploy to drive their price up

Nah, ABC is notoriously slow to renew and the show getting as much buzz as it has been getting means they’re trying to drive more views before the announcement. The OG show has had a spike in views too.
Plus Disney LOVES a reboot/remake.

That’s one situation I’m genuinely puzzled about. I know it’s more of a cult following show compared to Scrubs, but I thought that was a shoe-in and a pretty easy win for the network.

It's negotiations stuff....the show is a hit and the cast can demand $$$$ I am sure. But abc etc want to get it as c**** as possible if they do more, so they're probably trying to talk but each side play hard ball about it. I would assume. Plus whatever they throw at it they'll have to axe or trim from somewhere else with how business is

Think it's a sure thing. Been one of ABCs biggest shows this year. My guess is they contracted for a year to see how it plays and then now have to work out next season and beyond, especially if it means more episodes with Dr. Cox.

yeah the last episode aired 2 days ago, OP is bananas.
2
Infamous-Lab-81365 days ago

More probably that OP is used to streaming and prestige cable where they will frequently announce a new season based off strong premiere numbers or early airing numbers in general
Both of Lawrence's other comedies that ran this season on HBO and Apple had their new season announced well before the current airing one ended

So far, on the sitcom front, ABC has only renewed Abbott Elementary.
My assumption is they’re waiting to see how the sitcom pilot(s) come out of schedule planning. If it seems good, I could see them doing 2 hours of comedy (Abbott Elementary/Scrubs) and (shifting Gears/Should We Have Kids?).
If not, they’ll probably have to figure out how they want to schedule them and corresponding episode orders

I’m asking because Zach Braff said “we don’t know” in a recent AMA this week, which does not sound optimistic.
7
Accurate_Cress318Apr 16, 2026
+15
I respectfully disagree. If they were told they weren’t allowed to say anything about it being renewed, “we don’t know” sounds like the only thing they’d be allowed to say.
Considering how fantastic the season was and that they rebuilt the set, I’d bet a renewal is guaranteed save for any major players dying or a catastrophic world ending event.

I want you to be right so bad but the “we don’t know…” sounds so downcast, especially with the ellipsis. He could have phrased it like “we hope so!” “Let’s wait and see!” Something more optimistic. It really did sound like bad news

Especially considering the big chunk of money that went into constructing the set (they recreated and updated Sacred Heart in a completely different location, I think from scratch?) it’d be crazy for it to only get 1 season. They’ve already invested a lot.

How long does it normally take to renew shows?
1
been_mackinApr 16, 2026
+1
More than 2 months normally, usually not until a season ends. Streamers tend to greenlight before the start of a secondary season to drive more attention to the premiere, but i dont think scrubs needed that

It used to be the networks announce renewals in June, then September was premiere month for the new season.
So, I would guess no later than June on any announcement. There's a lot to negotiate.

Seen so many reboots of older shows(uk based) but fair play to D+ but scrubs especially has been so good and Malcolm in the middle was also more than watchable! Was gutted Frasier wasn’t as good as it could have been(but when Rodney is the best thing in it and he’s 4/5th credit there’s issues)
1
thelandtroutApr 18, 2026
+1
I think often one of the problems with reboots, that Frasier suffered from too, occurs when the majority of the main actors don't come back. It then means it has to be written into essentially a whole different show. Scrubs has been really good because pretty much all the main actors (who are able) are back so it feels like a genuine continuation of the characters' lives rather than trying to rebuild completely.

Look at their reviews of each episode on imdb. At least 8.5. Which is amazing. I cannot wait for more. 9 episodes just isn't enough. We need to go back to the 20 episode seasons

They might have decided to renew it, but not for how many episodes yet depending on the rest of the pilot commitments and cast negotiations.
Scrubs could be looking at a full 20+ episode season to pair with abbot elementary, or another midseason replacement (9-13 episodes).
I'd be shocked if it doesn't get picked up for another season, but how long that season is... who knows.

Well we need it to be renewed , john mcgintley is working on rooster as a recurring character and christa miller is on both shrinking and scrubs , her screen time is short and she is the showrunner bill Lawrence wife so most likely it's sorted on her end , it's important to manage john mcgintley well but I do think there's a plan because why would they bring back Dr cox and his storyline in the end of the season , assuming the scenario the show would do well they must have some ideas for the next season.Only issue is that all these shows have different production houses and platforms so they have to get that sorted.

Has anyone else ever had 5 well recieved shows in production simultaneously?
Scrubs, Ted Lasso, Shrinking, Bad Monkey and Rooster.
Like I know D*** Wolf and Ryan Murphy and Tyler Sheridan have had periods with a ton of stuff going on at once but it all kinda suffered because of it too.

Wait there's a Scrubs reboot in 2026? I think you might be getting ahead of yourself there buddy - we're still in 2024 lol. Unless you're talking about some announcement I missed but I don't think anything official got confirmed for a 2026 release.
I've been hoping they'd bring it back for years since the original ended, especially after seeing how other medical shows have been doing lately. The original cast is getting older but most of them are still acting so it could work if they did it right. Would love to see Turk and JD back in Sacred Heart or whatever hospital they'd use now.
Maybe you saw some fan speculation or wishful thinking posts somewhere and thought it was real news?
