Wife and I were excited to jump into the next installment after being big fans of the first one. But we couldn't even make it through the first episode. All of the characters seemed too over the top. You would think that trying to do this show again, with the premise of a "documentary" team following, the lead would be more suspicious and they would want the characters to be more subtle. It felt like a really bad The Office remake. The first season was catching lightning in a bottle, could they really repeat it?
Not as good as season 1. But the ending is really a 10/10 emotional moment.

Also - how incredible was his choice to look Doug dead in the eye and emphatically repeat: “Are you REALLY going to listen to the temp?” 🤯 Such quick thinking and composure. 🥹😮💨 It shows his self-confidence and value of earned respect. I was rocked! Beautiful. 🤩

I know S1 was probably wackier and zanier than I remember, but I at least felt at times that the premise was believable enough that they might actually be pulling off hoodwinking Ronald. Not for a second of S2 did I feel like there could possibly be a human on Earth that would believe this was a real company retreat that they were asked to join. Felt like watching a bad sitcom where just one actor had to improv their lines because they weren't given the script.

This and just the premise that someone would hire you as a temp to just pay you hourly to immediately go on a retreat and not really work.

My comment came across different than I wanted it to. Was genuinely curious if they were laughing because the show was good, or laughing at how bad it gets. Good to know that it's a truly funny show and I'll jump back in.

I laughed my ass off and a majority of the time it was due to Anthony’s WTF reactions. He is trying to be professional while also finding a weird family amongst this group. Anthony jumps in and takes part in the zaniness and yes. I screamed/laughed/cried at how great this season was.

I’d say yes.
Listen, it’s not as good as the first season. I felt like the first season had this perfect balance of absurdity and realism. It certainly played with the concept of the show (being actors surrounding an unsuspecting real person) better.
The second season does get better as you get more comfortable with the characters and there are certainly plenty of laugh out loud moments. I do feel like a decent chunk of the cast mellows out, almost too much so at points.

I don't think it should be compared to the first season due to the settings. Ronald had to be decent for what he thought was a legit court case.
Anthony was essentially on a temporary paid vacation with zero strings attached. He loosened up as the setting changed along with how the cast was behaving. He was agreeable since his job was to be an assistant.
I appreciate how well the setting keeps the hero in check just as much as it does when it comes to letting loose.

I agree that it's not super *believable* and I'm often questioning whether or not Anthony is starting to become suspicious but is just playing along. The guy in season 1 seemed genuinely gullible and was totally unfamiliar with the judicial process, while Anthony seems like a smart guy and as more and more ridiculous stuff happens I'm having trouble believing that he's just totally oblivious
My theory is that he's starting to question stuff but they're just cutting around it. And if everyone around him is reassuring him that it's nothing then he's probably not gonna push it too hard. Maybe he assumes it's all some elaborate team-building exercise or something
But either way, as other people have said...this season is funny as f*** and worth watching. Even if it's not as believable as season 1 it's still great imho

dude I had the same thought as you first episode. I also felt like I was watching a bad remake of the office. the characters were too quirky to be believable, or maybe it was that everyone's "personality" was taken to the extreme. but, like most everyone else on here said, it gets better (but nowhere near as good as the first, in my opinion)

I think it's worth watching, but not as good as the first one. I don't think the premise of making him captain fun worked nearly as well as making the other guy jury foreman. A lot of the time it feels like he's just a side character observing the wackiness without really interacting too much.

I actually thought after watching the first episode that it looked like it could be really good. All the characters were very "this is what I am" characters. That is to say, I thought it was good how they introduced all the characters in the first episode in an office like way, so you got to see who they were playing. Too bad I couldn't finish the second episode though, because of how dumb it is.

it definitely strikes a different tone than the first season. less absurd, less "funny." and that threw me off first.
but, it's good to remember that its the character of the "victim" that makes the show. and this guy is really sincere. earnest. a really good human being.

I think it feels like more of the office because it's also work colleagues that have history. With it being a show, they're obviously going to be over the top characters. If you really think about it, are they more over the top than season one? Lol they were crazy and in a legal environment 😆

Can't put my finger on it yet, but what this show is doing is really wrong. It is harmful and a bit cruel, and the "cast" reminds me of self important "thespians" in high school. Just not right.
I know we may be at an all time low when comes to empathy as a culture, but as entertainment?

Yes. I am in NY. And people look crazy every day. None of this is unbelievable to me, but to each their own. The show ends up being very moving and inspiring in the end. Anthony is a very active, involved person which makes it truly hilarious. Give it a whirl. The characters aren’t that crazy at all.

I gave up after the first 3 episodes, but came back a couple weeks later and episode 4 is when I really started laughing out loud and to me it was lol funny the rest of the way. I didn't feel Anthony had his mind blown the way Ronald did, so I didn't get catharsis from that reveal, but what this series had that the first one didn't was this cast being so moved by Anthony's moral character and that made it pretty satisfying. Anyhoo, I'll definitely watch season 3 and I hope Hero is a female for a change

They overdone it, but it’s still pretty fun to watch on a hungover afternoon. They casted a lot of characters/roles that could easily be placed in the Office or Parks & Rec.
But just like the first season, the hero is the star of the show. It’s just a good dude, that honestly kind of knows he is being fucked with. Which does makes it a bit less entertaining.

If he knows he is being fucked with, then why is he so emotional about the contract in the second to last episode? The dude was fully bought in.

its funny...I had the same initial reaction of thinking the characters were too over the top as compared to the first season. Then I went back and watched the first season and forgot how over the top they were (ie pants chair, I'm a racist, James Marsden's giant shit, etc), and felt it was about the same level of silliness. Overall, the first season was funnier, but I really liked Anthony and as others have mentioned, the payoff on this season was really well done.

Guess my thinking was that in the first season the characters could be a bit more over the top because no one would really suspect anything. But after the success of the first one they would want to be a bit more subtle on the next one, especially with the premise being that a documentary team is following.
Seems like everyone still enjoyed it, so we'll keep going with it.

Not as good as the first season, and how could it be? The premise there worked way better since they were sequestered and it was more novel.
However the gags are pretty good, and the ending is more emotional than the first season.

I could never get into the first one because I couldn't shake the feeling that they were lying to us about the main guy not knowing that everyone was acting. Especially once I saw Kirk Fox on screen as a supposedly random person. He's not a huge celebrity but he's a very recognizable character actor who's been in a lot of stuff. Putting him in would be a big risk if they were trying to keep a random person in the dark.

I love the show but there were a couple people I noticed immediately. This season the notary is Adam Hershman who was in a bunch of movies in the late 2000s/early 2010s. I realize it was at the end and he isn't super famous but shocked he didn't spot him.
