Yes. I quit 15+ years ago, and I had no idea how horrible it smelled until after I quit.

mrsmiley32 Apr 2, 2026 +183
I always ask my wife how could she kiss me?!

Cheap-and-cheerful Apr 2, 2026 +81
Why I quit is cos my girlfriend couldn’t stand that exactly!
81
charliesk9unit Apr 2, 2026 +17
Not as bad as the smell of mixing with coffee breath.
17
VanbyRiveronbucket Apr 3, 2026 +8
Puke and cigarettes is a horrible combo.
8
1egg_4u Apr 2, 2026 +52
What I find interesting was I liked the smell (loved it even) before I started and only after I quit did it begin being *really* stinky I can smell a cigarette from like a mile away now, never could have before. I also had never noticed before that the air smells like flowers in the spring?? It's almost like I didnt know what I was missing til I got my sense of smell back after quitting.

Swiftbow1 Apr 3, 2026 +13
I never smoked, but I was a kid in the 80s. Cigarette smoke wasn't nearly as obnoxious then. It was barely noticeable, even in bars. Now? Holy God... I can be at a smoker's house for 10 minutes and I have to air out my clothes overnight and either take a shower or drive home with all the windows open for 20 minutes just to make my hair stop reeking.

Fragrant_Sink5437 Apr 3, 2026 +6
THE SMELL OF FLOWERS i sound crazy but I always doubted myself I thought the world smelled differently but it would’ve been the drugsss
6
HumphreyBulldog Apr 2, 2026 +29
What they also don’t tell you after you quit (7 years for me) is how much better you can smell things. Perfume, body odor and of course, tobacco and weed.
29
Originalthrowaway76 Apr 2, 2026 +8
I quit 8 years ago and I was going to say the same thing. I never really understood how bad it smelled and I can't even imagine what it was like kissing me.
8
Chernyyvoron82 Apr 2, 2026 +2196
Yes, the smell turns my stomach
2196
mentalxkp Apr 2, 2026 +871
And not just the smell of an actively lit cigarette, but the smell that lingers on clothing, in cars, in a house, ect..
871
rosetinsel Apr 2, 2026 +327
It’s not just the cigarette, its the ghost of the cigarette that follows them everywhere.
327
redwolf1219 Apr 2, 2026 +69
The stale cigarette smell is actually worse than the smell of someone actively smoking. And that's saying something bc the active smell is pretty damn bad.
69
10000Didgeridoos Apr 2, 2026 +29
It's amazing when we have smoker patients come in and they are able to make an exam room smell like stale cig for a good half hour after they leave when they were only in it for like 20 minutes. And the waiting room and hallways they are in also. I assume they are smoking indoors at home and also in the car to and from because how else it is possible?
29
invisible_23 Apr 2, 2026 +4
My first car was a hand me down from my dad, it still smelled like cigarettes years later
4
Dr_LilithSternin Apr 2, 2026 +108
This. Someone can walk pass me and the smell of cigarettes stay long after they are gone
108
rideincircles Apr 2, 2026 +72
And making out with people who taste like cigarettes.
72
aenonymosity Apr 2, 2026 +41
Sorry Lt. dan, she tasted like cig-a-rettes
41
Seven_bushes Apr 2, 2026 +13
In 8th grade we had a No Smoking lesson in science class. One saying I was given on a sticker was, “Kissing a smoker is like licking an ash tray.” Between that and the video of an old lady smoking through a hole in her neck sealed the deal on no smoking for me.
13
bjwills7 Apr 2, 2026 +15
The fact that my exes weren't smokers yet made out with me is the biggest confidence booster ever now that I've quit and made out with a smoker. Like damn I must be pretty good looking if they were okay with that. I nearly threw up when I experienced it lol.
15
Own_Obligation_910 Apr 2, 2026 +5
That’s actually hilarious turns out attraction really will override a lot more than people admit. But yeah experiencing it from the other side is a whole different reality check
5
crosleyxj Apr 2, 2026 +27
If a smoker sneezes or coughs nearby you can immediately catch this dank smell from INSIDE THEM.
27
nursewords Apr 2, 2026 +19
I give anesthesia. I can smell it when I extubate people. A lot of times they’ve denied smoking too and I hadn’t smelled it on them up until that point. But yet it’s still down there in the lungs. I think it must take days to weeks for that to completely go away
19
Borasha Apr 3, 2026 +7
My ex started smoking about three years before our divorce. He smoked outside, could shower, brush his teeth and use mouthwash, but his exhalation smelled like death. People think they can brush their teeth and make their breath okay, but all the toothpaste in Texas can’t fix that funk.
7
nursewords Apr 3, 2026 +10
Yep. It’s usually a rough wake up for us from anesthesia too. Violent coughing, fighting, breath holding, spasming, all kinds of gunk coming up. Patient never remembers and doesn’t know bc 90% of the time we manage it and by the time they’re really awake it’s all calmed down. But definitely increases your risk of complications under anesthesia. And for anyone reading this, always be honest with your anesthesia providers!! We can be prepared and prevent some of this if we know!
10
Borasha Apr 3, 2026 +4
While honesty is absolutely the right thing for a patient to do, I…am a nurse. I am pretty good at spotting the blatant lies (the pause before denying any other significant medical history, the staring into my eyes when asserting that their cellulitis was caused by a spider bite, the obvious evasion when asked about diet, etc.), but even so, I can’t fill in gaps that are left out. It’s incredible that people, whose wellbeing is dependent upon their full disclosure to their care team, will instead, choose to lie.
4
rgvtim Apr 2, 2026 +24
The vapor tail. Out in public walk through the grocery store isles, you can tell who smokes from 3 to 5 yards away.
24
depreavedindiference Apr 2, 2026 +39
I personally think the smell in clothes, hair, cars, etc is worse than the smoke directly from the cigarette - ex-smoker opinion.
39
sexandliquor Apr 2, 2026 +3
Yeah I don’t know how most smokers don’t realize that or smell it all the time on f****** everything.
3
Lorenzo_BR Apr 2, 2026 +60
To me, the lingering smell is the actual problem - the smell of an actively lit cig is actually very pleasant for me. Either way, not a dealbreaker for me
60
mckulty Apr 2, 2026 +14
Agreed. I smoked until I was 50, and occasionally I'll follow a smoker down the sidewalk and sniff.
14
Sorry_Im_Trying Apr 2, 2026 +16
Weird, as a former smoker I am repulsed by the smell. Walking past someone makes me gag. I've apologized to my friends who don't smoke, that I made them smell that for so long. It's just the worst!
16
matt_minderbinder Apr 2, 2026 +9
I'm 20+ years free of smoking but I get a weird jealousy when I see someone enjoying a cigarette. I'd never go back because of the health implications and costs but I'd struggle to resist an equal product that wasn't unhealthy or crazy expensive.
9
SaratogaSquirrelBait Apr 2, 2026 +3
Exact same here
3
Chernyyvoron82 Apr 2, 2026 +68
Yes, it's just disgusting. I even avoid colleagues who smoke as I cannot stand to be near them. I could never be in a relationship with someone so gross.
68
Careless-Cat3327 Apr 2, 2026 +20
The one coworker would try give me a hug and I'd try to find s reason to avoid her. I started walking around her side of the building. She swapped to vaping and i could finally walk through her department and not worry about my clothes stinking like cigarettes.
20
imrzzz Apr 2, 2026 +5
I feel that way about the smell of car exhaust.
5
MassiveBoner911_3 Apr 2, 2026 +6
Their skin also gives off the smell of nicotine
6
Daemonxar Apr 2, 2026 +20
Hair, too. I can always smell it in people's hair.
20
_Trael_ Apr 2, 2026 +5
Yes person also, including for example mouth and breath for while.
5
evlhornet Apr 2, 2026 +4
The smell on their breath ma. It’s like sniffing an ash tray. Had a friend who smoked and was a close talker, worst combo ever
4
CommonDriftt Apr 2, 2026 +25
Stale smoke is worse.
25
pancakeonions Apr 2, 2026 +86
This So.  Utterly.  Disgusting.   Baffling that folks still pick up this habit
86
Enfors Apr 2, 2026 +15
Yeah. I can't understand it. It stinks, it's unhealthy, it's expensive. So, obviously, let's do it, right? /s
15
potato_for_cooking Apr 2, 2026 +3
Yes. Its nasty. Smoke breath? No. Instant loss of attraction.
3
TurtleRockDuane Apr 2, 2026 +7
My nose immediately stuffs up and burns and stings. Deplorable.
7
Dr_LilithSternin Apr 2, 2026 +788
Yes. Cigarette breath is gross. The smell is all over their clothes. It’s expensive habit
788
GoopInThisBowlIsVile Apr 2, 2026 +80
Kissing/making out with a smoker is what I imagine licking an ashtray to be like.
80
abqkat Apr 2, 2026 +32
Ime, when it's like... fresh smoked, its not as bad. It's when it's that stank, stale smoke that is somehow worse
32
10000Didgeridoos Apr 2, 2026 +11
Yeah my memory of doing it with a fling in college is actually weirdly not tasting it as much as you'd think, but it was everything else about it: the smell was in her hair, her clothes, her car, her bed. So you're trying to make out but her smokey hair is in your face, or you're trying even just to spoon in bed and it's in your face. She always had perfume on trying to mask it but that meant she just smelled like both at once and that combo is forever associated in my brain with her if I smell it anywhere else.
11
_BillyBumbler_ Apr 2, 2026 +363
Now that I’ve been quit for 8 years , I wonder how the hell anyone I dated who didn’t smoke put up with me cause honestly , I wouldn’t have done the same for them lol it’s vile. The smell is atrocious but KISSING that smell? Absolutely not.
363
DrustRain3 Apr 2, 2026 +24
Licking a cold ashtray is the only way I can describe the taste of those kisses now.
24
Electronic-Jello-640 Apr 3, 2026 +9
Exactly. Not in a million years.
9
TheDawiWhisperer Apr 2, 2026 +167
Yeah, my parents smoked throughout my childhood and I f****** hated it.
167
WitchoftheOuest Apr 2, 2026 +63
Everyone in my household growing up smoked - parents, grandparents, older siblings. I breathed second-hand smoke for 18 years. As the youngest I ended up with life long lung problems. When I was diagnosed with asthma as an adult, they could tell I grew up in h house with smokers and a wood burning stove. For anyone reading this who smokes around kids - f*** you. 😘
63
MiliBerry Apr 2, 2026 +8
I'm just wondering if we'll see this same thread about vaping when we're our parents' age...
8
jupituniper Apr 3, 2026 +10
Probably not with this particular complaint. One of the reasons my parents’ smoking really impacted me when I was a kid was that it makes everyone in the house absolutely reek. I got bullied for smelling bad and got accused by teachers of smoking myself. Vapes suck but the scent is far less enduring and offensive.
10
ShelterNo7784 Apr 2, 2026 +265
Yes. My husband died of smoking related cancers. All the other statements about the smell, grime, would be enough as well.
265
watermelonlollies Apr 3, 2026 +17
I had a family friend die of lung cancer. She never smoked a day in her life but her husband of 20 years was a chain smoker. She always said she didn’t mind, it was his choice, etc. Now she’s dead. I’m not dying over someone else’s choices. No potential romantic relationship is worth cancer. People who smoke never consider how secondhand smoke is actively harming their loved ones around them.
17
psychorobotics Apr 2, 2026 +16
God the grime is awful, sticky and smells real bad. Trying to get it off the walls when you've moved into an apartment lived in by a smoker... Thank God there's special paint to seal that. I smoked for a bit in my 20s, never doing that again
16
ILikeCrunchyFood Apr 2, 2026 +472
Yes. It stinks, it makes everything around the person stink, their teeth turn yellow through time and it shows that they don't care about their lung health. Not only that, most (not all) smokers litter by throwing the cigarette butt on the floor.
472
inosinateVR Apr 2, 2026 +38
The stink and general grossness of it is a totally valid reason for not wanting to date someone but addiction is a little more complicated than “it shows they don’t care about their lung health”
38
POWBOOMBANG Apr 2, 2026 +73
You arent born with a nicotine addiction. At some point you choose to start smoking. My sister in law and her husband starting smoking randomly this year. In 2026. The fact that *anyone* can start smoking in 2026 is f****** unbelievable.  It's a blatant disregard for personal health.
73
SunnyBunnyIsMyHoney Apr 2, 2026 +23
Prenatal exposure to nicotine makes you more likely to develop a nicotine addiction. This happened to myself and all of my siblings. My parents also smoked all the time around us. I put my first cigarette to my mouth when I was 7. It's been about 30 years of smoking for me. Very difficult to try to quit these last few years...and forever.
23
wstx3434 Apr 2, 2026 +41
I'm sure you weren't born with all the flaws you have either, but you aren't speaking on them.
41
ChaoticallyCandid Apr 2, 2026 +36
Yeah, at this point. I used to smoke, but now the smell is so revolting I don't think I could handle it.
36
questingquietly Apr 2, 2026 +128
Yes. Lost both my grandparents to it. Not getting involved with it.
128
teenagedemonbaby Apr 2, 2026 +87
Yes because it makes the person and all of their belongings reek
87
Stinker_Bell77 Apr 2, 2026 +9
Yeah, gotta admit I do NOT miss the stench.
9
UneLoupSeul Apr 2, 2026 +67
Yes. Not only do people who smoke smell bad, they also taste bad.
67
youdubdub Apr 2, 2026 +4
All over.
4
bussysniffer3000 Apr 2, 2026 +124
It smells bad and I can only imagine how they taste when kissed
124
PCVictim100 Apr 2, 2026 +71
They taste bad. Can confirm.
71
CryptographerLow7987 Apr 2, 2026 +16
It is like licking a full ashtray.
16
Repulsive-Start-134 Apr 2, 2026 +9
Bad. Very bad
9
Subject9800 Apr 2, 2026 +8
You can tell they smoke when you go down on them, too. 🤢
8
bussysniffer3000 Apr 2, 2026 +5
There's something I didn't need to know
5
gyratingorb Apr 2, 2026 +3
Me when I lie
3
Mysterious_Existence Apr 2, 2026 +65
That depends on the volume of smoking. If you're a chain-smoker, or get through 1 pack a day, then yes. If you smoke at parties, or just a few times a week then I have no problem.
65
Putt-Blug Apr 2, 2026 +16
This is my answer too. My current partner used to smoke when they partied and if it was deal breaker then we wouldn't be happily married.
16
Reggie_Vision Apr 2, 2026 +44
Yes. The smell is so bad
44
AdditionalButton8028 Apr 2, 2026 +17
The smell lingers, especially in my hair, I’ve had second-hand smoke in the past. I don’t work in healthcare but I’ve had plenty of healthcare friends educate me on how bad it really is and the things they’ve seen.
17
10000Didgeridoos Apr 2, 2026 +6
It's incredible when the patients come in and are such prolific indoor smokers that the stale cig smell lingers in the waiting room and exam room they were in a good half an hour after they leave. The worst ones even manage to make the hallways smell for a while by merely walking though them for a moment. I assume they have to be smoking inside at home and in the car to and from the appointment. Same thing with big time weed smokers, though that smell dissapates a little faster.
6
LilyFlechette Apr 2, 2026 +355
No. I was a smoker in the past, so 1) it doesn’t bother me all that much, and 2) I know how hard it is to quit, so no judgement here
355
fancyPantsOne Apr 2, 2026 +126
as another ex smoker I’d say it is a dealbreaker for me, I don’t need that constant sweet sweet smell lingering and enticing. I just know I’d end up joining them for a smoke
126
YeetedApple Apr 2, 2026 +29
Same, there is zero chance I’d be able to stop myself from starting again if I was with someone that smoked. It being a dealbreaker for me isn’t really a judgement of the other person, it’s a judgement of myself
29
Comfortable-World831 Apr 2, 2026 +21
Absolutely a dealbreakerfor me- no one gets to mess with my cigarette sobriety- I smoked on and off for a long time- quit many times until I figured out I MUST not be near it- been 7 yrs for me- I still get cravings…just go for a walk- I walked many miles the first year.
21
Prof_Gankenstein Apr 2, 2026 +7
This right here. I can already smell it like a bloodhound. I couldn't do it. It would be like a recovering alcoholic dating an active daily drinker. Would just be too much.
7
aotus_trivirgatus Apr 2, 2026 +5
>sweet sweet smell lingering and enticing Wow, we have totally different experiences. It's amazing how addiction can transform the mind.
5
fancyPantsOne Apr 2, 2026 +6
I can objectively tell that cigarette smoke is an unpleasant smell, but then that sleeping worm in my brain wakes up
6
bassmansrc Apr 2, 2026 +87
Whoa…empathy. That’s not welcome here! Lol…jk Seriously though I’m with you. I smoked for my entire youth up until age 31. I then quit (2008) with the help of a prescription. I didn’t touch a cigarette for 14 years and never had a desire to. Then in 22 I took a trip to Italy. Fuckin everybody smokes in Italy! I swear there were babies in strollers and designer clothes puffin away. Anyway, one night the temptation got the better of me and I used Google Translate to ask this dude at a cafe if I could buy a cigarette from him. He gave me a few for free. The next day I bought a pack thinking “well this is just a treat during this trip”. I’m still f****** smoking. Oye. It’s harder than anybody knows. I’d never judge another because of it.
87
Zeravor Apr 2, 2026 +28
I do feel like most people that dont have a strong opinion on this just scroll past the post, which skews the replies towards to more extreme ones.
28
wolftick Apr 2, 2026 +12
I don't think it being a deal breaker from a personal point of view means you are judging or lack empathy for smokers.
12
bassmansrc Apr 2, 2026 +3
That’s completely fair. If one can’t stand the smell then it’s more of a personal pref thing. I was more just responding to a person who mentioned knowing how hard it is to quit. I know a lot of never-smokers (and good for them smart as mfers for never starting) that just kinda look at people who smoke with bewildered judgement like ‘why do t you just not do that?’ lol….and I kinda even get that sentiment. But unless you’ve been there, you might not understand how absolutely dominating addiction can be.
3
wolftick Apr 2, 2026 +3
My father smoked for most of his life and has struggled with it for the rest of it. I couldn't choose to live with someone who smoked but I would never judge someone who does.
3
YeaIFistedJonica Apr 2, 2026 +10
i struggled to quit cigs for the longest time and the only thing that did it was vaping, after a bit i started buying vapes with less nicotine, eventually zero nicotine, then finally switched to some nice tea tree oil toothpicks for the oral fix. unfortunately i too traveled abroad recently and bought a pack after a similar situation in a cafe with google translate. but i just switched back to the zero nicotine vape and at least i’m not coughing up shit every morning. feels a lot easier quitting this time than the first time. you got this
10
andybmcc Apr 2, 2026 +7
Hey, that's exactly how I quit. Those tea tree oil picks gave me the shits.
7
jokebreath Apr 2, 2026 +15
This is nearly the exact same as my story right now, but replace Italy with Japan. It's been almost 6 months now since I've been back and it's become a regular habit again. I will absolutely quit again, but man I wish I never bummed that first one in Japan.
15
Greful Apr 2, 2026 +3
You can probably get the prescription again, more easily than you could back then. I was in the same situation as you, but the second time I started I hid it because I didn't want people to know. It became too controlling (even more than the insane level of controlling that it normally is). Sneaking around, air fresheners everywhere , changing clothes. It was such a hassle. Planning things and making sure there was time for me to stop and smoke. Idk if I could do like a 3 hour straight run without one. I was going to the movies and leaving to smoke in the middle. Anyway, I got meds from one of those online places. I didn't even need to meet with a doctor, I just chatted with one online. It's been a couple years now. Although initially I did switch to vapes for when I was going out drinking, that's when my judgement was the worst, so I had to have something. Then one day I was going out and I forgot the vape at home and I was about to turn around and I was just like f*** it and I went out without it. And that was really the end.
3
VAGINAL_CRUSTACEAN Apr 2, 2026 +19
As an ex-smoker I quite like the smell. Secondhand reminds me of my childhood home
19
hairychris88 Apr 2, 2026 +5
It reminds me of hanging out in the smoking area outside pubs and nightclubs in my university days. I was never a proper smoker but I have some really fun memories of those times.
5
No-Jicama-3673 Apr 2, 2026 +7
I never smoked but my smoker friends find it extremely difficult to quit, how you managed to quit
7
LaughingJackStudio Apr 2, 2026 +8
Its just willpower and you are never truly a non-smoker*. I ate bags of sunflower seeds to keep my mouth busy though *you will likely have the occasional craving for life
8
pariah76 Apr 2, 2026 +10
I haven't had a cigarette in a roughly 20 years. I still occasionally have dreams where I've started smoking again.
10
Detail4 Apr 2, 2026 +3
I quit smoking but never got totally away from nicotine. I’ll go a few weeks or months then I’ll do gum or a zyn.
3
muskiesfan1 Apr 2, 2026 +10
I’m with you. I smoked for a long time. I quit 4 years ago. My oldest child asked me to quit and I did. Make no mistake, I still have cravings. Hell, I dream of smoking sometimes. It’s a very difficult habit to break.
10
Successful_Contest19 Apr 2, 2026 +9
Just last night I dreamed about finding someone's stash of cigarettes that I scooped up and took to the shed so I could smoke in secret, and I haven't even *seen* a cigarette in probably five years. It really does stay with you forever.
9
start_nine Apr 2, 2026 +10
I loved every cigarette I ever smoked, but I quit for my kids too. But god damn those were good times
10
10000Didgeridoos Apr 2, 2026 +3
I don't judge it at all to be clear, I have my own vices in life. But the smell of it is so obtrusive I definitely can't tolerate it in a romantic partner I'm with all the time.
3
Forward-Amount-9961 Apr 2, 2026 +8
I realize it is an addiction and quitting is one of the hardest things an addict can do. However, the smell is so awful and research shows it is dangerous to my health as well. As a result, I will not be judging you for smoking but I will not be engaging in a relationship with you either.
8
mytown343 Apr 2, 2026 +8
Yes, ofcourse. It smells horrible and is unhealthy. Lung cancer is terrble
8
Constant_Cultural Apr 2, 2026 +94
Yes, definitely it's so disgusting
94
CrackedMouseBall Apr 2, 2026 +41
Mmm I remember my gf smelling like cigarettes and perfume in the winter. She quit shortly after but I kinda liked the combo
41
TyrannicalArachnid15 Apr 2, 2026 +18
This. Bruh I find the scent of cigarettes genuinely so arousing why doesn’t anyone get that.
18
Sprinkle_Puff Apr 2, 2026 +12
Yes. I can smell it from a mile away. And even when you’re not smoking, you absolutely reeked to hell even if you try and cover it up with perfume or cologne and then you just smell like smoky perfume or cologne.
12
duplissi Apr 2, 2026 +6
the smell is revolting.
6
SurealGod Apr 2, 2026 +44
Yeah... While the smell doesn't entirely make me sick, it's not pleasant at all and I find the constant going outside to smoke very annoying. Especially if they're a heavy smoker; prepare for them to go out every 10 minutes.
44
bamboiRS Apr 2, 2026 +8
Every 10 minutes is crazy work. I smoked for a decade+, pack a day smoker. They'd have to be smoking multiple packs a day which I've NEVER met someone that does.
8
avantgardengnome Apr 2, 2026 +5
It was easier to do back in the day when you could smoke indoors everywhere and packs were dirt c****. But yeah at a certain point (probably around the two-pack mark), it’s people that are so addicted to the mechanics of smoking that they’re constantly lighting new cigarettes and stubbing them out, not smoking them down to the butts anymore.
5
Fluffy_Meat1018 Apr 2, 2026 +11
Absolutely, 100%. Because it's a gross, smelly, and disgusting habit.
11
DnDeez_Nutz Apr 2, 2026 +4
Yes. I quit 2 years ago and I would absolutely start again if I dated someone who smoked. :(
4
killerofchicken Apr 2, 2026 +5
Yes, it stinks
5
Coracoda Apr 2, 2026 +10
Yes because i tried it and couldn’t get past *always* smelling it, and tasting it on her breath
10
TeaCompletesMe Apr 2, 2026 +17
It was a dealbreaker, but then I dated a guy who hid the fact that he smoked for two years, so after that I realized it must not have bothered me THAT much if I wasn’t able to tell. Plus I smoke tons of weed now so it would be hypocritical of me.

- Stinky. - Gross taste. - I don’t want to fall for someone and then watch them die of preventable cancer. - I don’t want to smell like smoke. - I don’t want cancer.

Puzzled_Prompt_3783 Apr 2, 2026 +30
Nah. I used to smoke, so I’m pretty tolerant of the smell.

Everyoneheresamoron Apr 2, 2026 +9
Not an immediate deal breaker, but definitely a huge minus. I grew up with a family who smoked, and the last thing I want is for my entire house/wardrobe to smell like cigarrettes. And since smokers no longer have a sense of smell, they don't realize they reek of it, and their clothes reek of it, and anything that they put their clothes on (aka furniture) will eventually reek of it.

Itchy-Cloud-3343 Apr 2, 2026 +9
For a lot of people, yeah. Not even from judgment, just the smell, health side of it, and lifestyle mismatch can make it an instant no.
9
tiffibean13 Apr 2, 2026 +4
Yes. My mom was a smoker and after she was diagnosed with lung cancer, she died 10 days later right in front of me. Traumatized the f*** out of me. Plus it absolutely reeks.
4
IxidorBloodfyre Apr 2, 2026 +4
Yes. They smell like shit, makes your mouth taste like shit, and they are a huge financial drain that i don't need attached to my life. I am not about to kiss someone who tastes and smells like shit who is gonna always ask if I have 20 bucks for them.
4
Tequila_Sunrise_1022 Apr 2, 2026 +5
Yes, it smells absolutely rancid. Reeking that bad is rude to everyone around you, let alone an intimate partner. What an advertisement to not kiss or be near someone.
5
Km_the_Frog Apr 3, 2026 +5
Yeah it smells like shit
5
LarryUpSky Apr 2, 2026 +8
No, I love smoking, so it’s a dealmaker!
8
foetus_lp Apr 2, 2026 +7
No
7
druidgaymer Apr 2, 2026 +10
No. I just don't care
10
Material-Strategy-31 Apr 2, 2026 +15
Probably my #1 dealbreaker.
15
10k_Uzi Apr 2, 2026 +13
No. Cos girls be looking hot with a cigarette
13
ImpracticalHack Apr 2, 2026 +3
My husband smokes, so no. If we were to divorce, I wouldn't be with another smoker.
3
evlhornet Apr 2, 2026 +3
Yes. I think agent smith said it best. “It’s the smell…”
3
JdaveA Apr 2, 2026 +3
Stinky.
3
VinayXDD Apr 2, 2026 +3
Yup because I can't bear the smell of cigarettes
3
Bradliss Apr 2, 2026 +3
As a former smoker yes. It’s so disgusting. The smell is just absolutely horrid
3
l0_raine Apr 2, 2026 +3
IMMEDIATE. They stink, the lingering smell is even worst, and they just aren’t good for you.
3
where_is_your_god Apr 2, 2026 +3
I don’t mind the smell, it’s the ashtray mouth that turns me off.
3
Uberstauffer Apr 2, 2026 +3
No. I'm not a smoker, never have been, but I didn't mind that the majority of women I've been with were smokers. I didn't care about the smell, or kissing them, but did worry about the longterm effects it would have on their bodies. Most have quit due to feeling the side effects at 40+.
3
FinalFantasiesGG Apr 2, 2026 +3
I've never noticed smell issues and kissing only was a problem immediately after they smoked. 90% of the comments are acting like someone rubbed ash under their armpits or something.
3
Pale_Height_1251 Apr 2, 2026 +3
When I was younger it was, but not these days, most of us have vices.
3
zoolish Apr 3, 2026 +3
Yes, the smell is one of the worst we have as humans and it sticks to everything.
3
Adaminsky Apr 3, 2026 +3
Yes it’s a disgusting habit, the smoke clings to your skin, hair and clothes. Not to mention how bad your breath smells.
3
though- Apr 3, 2026 +3
Cancer researcher here, so occupational hazard, I guess. Also, as an ex-smoker, the smell is **vile**. And no, you cannot mask it no matter what you think.
3
Anguares Apr 3, 2026 +3
So I broke up with someone over that because : \- It's such a waste of time, everytime we needed to go somwhere, 1 cig before getting in the car, 1 cig before going in a store etc... so everything you're are doing it cut by 15min pauses \- waste of money, money sink, no benefit from it \- I didn't understand why someone would hurt their body, for nothing in return... "It makes me feel calm", yeah I don't smoke and I'm calm, way more ofter than you who need a drug to get that feeling \- bad breath, it made me feel sick \- everything in a radius smells like cold cigarette's butt, everytime I left his place I needed to change and shower, I could smell it in my hair So it was the first time I got in a relationship with a smoker, none of my friends or familly members were smokers so I discovered that stupid and smelly way to kill oneself with that guy and left him over that.
3
bajamjam Apr 2, 2026 +10
As a daughter of a smoker, yes it is. I hate cigarettes.
10
Hot-Employee-1000 Apr 2, 2026 +7
Yes, being a former smoker, the smell is ten times worse now then when i smoked. You can smell it on their clothes, breath, body.
7
CattleSenior5177 Apr 2, 2026 +6
Nope, there are breath mints etc they can use :)
6
KRISP88 Apr 2, 2026 +5
That smell. It’s there
5
this_broken_machine Apr 2, 2026 +5
Absolutely not. I smoked for 15 years, mostly quit, started again, and went through a massive breakup. Decided to quit for good at that point. Used vaping and gum and metered my dosages and weened down further and further until when my vape broke I tossed it. Havent craved anything since. Dated women since, kisses don’t taste great, but smoke isn’t a bother to me at all. I’ve been in a shed with smokers in a monsoon, in a smoking car, etc. not happy with how my clothes smell, but im not over-sensitive to it
5
Different_Nothing973 Apr 2, 2026 +12
I've smoked on and off since I've been with my husband almost 21years and he's never smoked. He's never complained or made a comment except once when we started dating. It doesn't bother him.
12
Hyphen99 Apr 2, 2026 +13
Yes. Not only is it dirty and disgusting on its own, but after watching some relatives’ lives get ruined by cancer the last thing I want to do is invite vicious carcinogens into my life
13
lilj1123 Apr 2, 2026 +6
Strangely enough both me and my girlfriend smoke but drinking is a 100% dealbreaker for both of us.
6
Due_Essay447 Apr 2, 2026 +6
It is so easy to find someone who doesn't smoke, so yes.
6
blazblu82 Apr 2, 2026 +6
Yes on so many levels. The stench, the cost and lack the of respect for their own health and others around them.
6
TyrannicalArachnid15 Apr 2, 2026 +5
No. Unpopular opinion, I actually like the smell of cigarette smoke. I’m also a non smoker btw.
5
External-Breath-992 Apr 2, 2026 +15
Yes. They stink and ew
15
Gedankenfabrik_ Apr 2, 2026 +10
Nope, I am a smoker myself.
10
Koraxtheghoul Apr 2, 2026 +12
No, smoking is pretty insignificant to me.
12
SummerMummer Apr 2, 2026 +7
Yes. Smoking is bad for your health and the health of those around you, and a big waste of money.
7
Only_Presentation758 Apr 2, 2026 +25
No. Smokers get more hell than any other group for something that is still legal and sold in stores. They comply with having to go stand next to a dumpster on the loading dock to enjoy an adult activity. Everyone knows it’s unhealthy and the smell sticks but I wouldn’t shoot disgusted looks or make rude comments. As long as he takes courteous steps to rid or minimize the smell it wouldn’t be an absolute dealbreaker.
25
Past-File3933 Apr 2, 2026 +15
No, I smoke and would prefer to make deals with someone who smokes.
15
tmoore67 Apr 2, 2026 +3
I have a breathing disorder.
3
soupy-c Apr 2, 2026 +5
Yes. It stinks and it’s bad for you
5
Illustrious-Vanilla9 Apr 2, 2026 +6
Yes, i cant breathe when people smoke near me and I think the smell is disgusting, and it lingers.
6
International_Ad690 Apr 2, 2026 +6
No, their hands stink and I wouldn’t want to have sex with someone who’s hands are stinky
6
10000Didgeridoos Apr 2, 2026 +3
The hair is the worst part. Can't kiss without the smokey hair in your face, can cuddle without it being up in your face either.
3
tiktoksuckmyknob23 Apr 2, 2026 +6
I'll take weed over cigarettes. Yes, weed stinks, but cigarettes? 🤢
6
mikemerriman Apr 2, 2026 +4
Yes. It’s a filthy and disgusting habit
4
Dry-Lavishness-9639 Apr 2, 2026 +6
Yes! It stinks and makes all their belongings stink. It also shows they don’t care about their own health or your health because people are affected by second hand smoke.
6
PreggoMidgetAnalpie Apr 2, 2026 +7
Depends on what kind of deal we’re making.
7
cmdr_suds Apr 2, 2026 +6
Would I sell a car to a smoker, yes. Would I buy a car from a smoker, no.
6
BergerTime5150 Apr 2, 2026 +9
Absolutely
9
Pedantichrist Apr 2, 2026 +7
No, I make my choices, which include not consuming nicotine, but I do not judge others for their choices.
7
Holdmymule2001 Apr 2, 2026 +6
Yes. Because smokers smell disgusting.
6
One-Ball-78 Apr 2, 2026 +9
IMMEDIATE deal breaker. The “why” is for a similar reason that shitting ones pants as a habit would be, too.
9
shadowimage Apr 2, 2026 +2
A year ago? Nope, because I was a smoker as well. Now? I can smell you from over a block away.
2
Imaginary-Friend-228 Apr 2, 2026 +2
I'm a hypocrite about this because it didn't bother me until I suddenly realized I was in love with someone who was increasingly likely to have a young painful death. Luckily he quit smoking lol.
2
berfthegryphon Apr 2, 2026 +2
Yes. Financially it's insane to do. Let alone it's one of the most known causes of cancer, and you're self inflicting it.
2
CorporateNonperson Apr 2, 2026 +2
To date? Yep. Occasionally I'll smell somebody smoking a nice cigarette and it's pleasant, but the majority are acrid trash.
2
Used-Truth-7279 Apr 2, 2026 +2
Smoking, drinking and drugs. It made me miss great opportunities and I realized this too late.
2
___HeyGFY___ Apr 2, 2026 +2
Yes. The smell is disgusting and I'm allergic to smoke.
2
AlisonChained Apr 2, 2026 +2
I tried dating a smoker. I liked her quite a bit. But kissing her was dreadful. It was spicy and bad and because of that experience I would never date a smoker again.
2
AintNobodygotime13 Apr 2, 2026 +2
yep. they cant tell how gross they smell
2
Things_with_Stuff Apr 2, 2026 +2
Yes.  It's really gross. And you have to choose to do it.
2
Paula_Sub Apr 2, 2026 +2
Yup. I lived with my mum smoking for 20 years. Pretty often my clothes all smelled of cigarette smoke. Plus many rooms in the house. No matter how much they are cleaned or washed. I don't want that anymore. Not even close to me.
2
ObjectiveAd93 Apr 2, 2026 +2
Yes, the smell is awful, and is a cptsd trigger for me
2
Glitter-Trouble8204 Apr 2, 2026 +2
Yes! Absolute dealbreaker. I don’t like to smell the smoke. I don’t like how the smell penetrates everything. I don’t want a partner that needs to go out for a smoke break. I don’t want a partner that is being reckless with their health and mine.
2
Arunia Apr 2, 2026 +2
Yes, it is a dealbreaker.
2
Jussgoawaiplzkthxbai Apr 2, 2026 +2
Yes. The smell, the cost and the inconvenience
2
Megalomanizac Apr 2, 2026 +2
Yes
2
StarGlass8859 Apr 2, 2026 +2
Once kissed by a smoker and I swear it felt like burning. The smell on clothing, in cars, in homes, walking past - I have intense physical reactions to it. My allergies also give me a solid reason to nup out of the space.
