Is the other 3 planet of apes movies worth watching after beneath?

Posted by Simple-Profile1817

Beneath the planet of apes is the one of the worst movies i have ever seen, otherwise, the original 1968 movie is a masterpiece, i love the reboot movies because they have emotional characters, both humans and apes, should i give a try to the escape, conquest and battle if i love the Caesar empathy from reboot? I heard Caesar appears in the OG movies, i love emotional struggle arc from characters like Caesar and Naruto for example

With the exception of the first one, even at time or release, these movies looked c****. Especially Battle.

What i am expecting to see is good villains like koba and good emotional arc of the apes, did the old movies have all this stuff even with a low budget?

Yep, it looks like a visceral masterpiece, what i love on caesar was his empathy on reboot, the OG movies at less show him having a emotional arc?

Conquest has gained a following because there are strong parallels to the civil rights movement of the day. It has a much more serious feel than the previous two, partly because Cornelius is absent (although Roddy McDowall returns as Caesar). It's the only one of the last three that's worth watching... but it ain't no Citizen Kane.

Is the movie just visceral or worth watching for me who love the empathy and fallen coexistence themes in the reboot? I mean the good emotional arc of caesar with both humans and apes

It's been a long time since I've seen it, but yeah they at least try for some emotional depth. Actually none of the films after Battle (including the reboot) follow the basic premise of Pierre Boulle's novel. The idea was not that there was a war between apes and humans. The humans obliterated themselves with their own war, and apes evolved to take their place. Parts 3 through 5 of the original series were just making shit up to keep the franchise going. The very pathetic 1974 TV series continued along those lines. The reboot basically took the idea that evolved from the original franchise (a war between humans and apes, with apes eventually winning somehow) and threw out the rest of the story.

If you didn't like Beneath, you might not like the rest. Beneath is basically a "requel" to present some slightly newer ideas and for Charlton Heston to end the series. They get cheaper in quality after that, but they have some moments of greatness. I really liked them despite their flaws. The whole series (aside from the TV show and the Mark Whalberg remake) is fun. Escape feels very different because of the setting (and frankly the more light hearted tone in the beginning and middle). Another commentor mentioned Conquest as being pretty good, and I'd agree. It delves into slavery a bit and it's more in line with the newer series. Battle is fine.

Escape: Very weird and different but good. Conquest: Great stuff in the way the original and reboot are great. Battle: I barely remember it. Remake: 1/10. Watch it with friends and beer and it's a 10/10 bad movie.

I wouldn't watch them. On an interesting note, one of them has the original ending of the book The Planet Of The Apes. It might be Beyond that has the original book's ending.

The second one is horrendous I'll agree, felt like the writers desperately didn't want make more sequels from that. The other three don't hit the highs of 1 but are mostly fine. From what you are looking for I think you'll like conquest a bit but it's up to you.

Is conquest the movie which features caesar? If so, did OG caesar have a emotional arc like the reboot? Thats why i love the reboot movies

I liked escape since you saw why and how it started. Dead dogs and cats = no reason to go on.

Escape is the only OG sequel that even comes close to being a functional film. It’s better than Beneath but I doubt you’d get much out of it. It’s a really big swing in terms of what they decide to do with the franchise. Conquest and Battle are both abysmal films. I wouldn’t bother if I were you.

I watched all of them a while back. Beneath is pretty bad, but the one that takes place in modern times (Escape?), is also not great. I quite enjoyed the rest because even though the budgets weren't as high, I recall enjoying the stories and concepts.

They also did a cartoon and a live action TV show. I couldn't tell you if they were any good though. I have them in my library but just haven't watched them yet.

I marathoned all five movies last year because I had only seen the first one before. The only ones I liked were the first and Escape. I was on the fence about Beneath, but the abruptness of the ending moved it firmly into dislike for me. The cheapness of Conquest and Battle were very distracting. *A* character named Caesar appears in them, but it is not the same Caesar as the reboot movies.

I don’t think it’s about understanding so much as that every original sequel to the first film is dreadful.
