i remember seeing it on on my TV a decade ago and since then i think i havent seen anything about it in any MIB or sony pictures movie ever again but i also dont watch that many movies anymore so is there any other appearance in another movie or is MIB 1997 the only one where it ever appeared and will it return for MIB 5?
Hey, I worked on an MIB videogame. I won’t say which or for which studio because legal reasons, but Sony shared a private doc with us which serves as a kind of “bible” for understanding the MIB franchise, which I assume they have written up for all their IP. It effectively defines what an MIB story should be, like a kind of loose template for the themes any franchise entry should be exploring or using in some form.
Part of it talked about how MIB stories are partially about realising you’re just a smaller part of a much bigger world than you initially believed existed, and yet the small things still have power to affect the larger world around them in powerful ways.
My interpretation of the marble is it’s essentially a visual metaphor for this concept.
I appreciate you’re probably looking for more of an in-universe/lore answer, but I figured this would still be of interest.

Yeah, that's all I ever took it as. OP might be a little Marvel-brained thinking it was a tease for something that will show up in a future sequel.
There's a similar "size" gag at the end of the second one, although it's little more clunky and forced.

That's pretty cool. Were there any other interesting nuggets in that bible?

Y’know, funnily enough that’s the only bit that really stayed with me. It was a long doc, I seem to remember it being 90 pages long or something, and it covered a lot of ground. In-universe history and stuff, it talked about the treaty (?) that served as the foundation for MIB’s role in policing and monitoring alien traffic on Earth, which I don’t remember the movies spending a lot of time on - understandably!
The most interesting part, to me at least, was the section talking about the themes that make an MIB story an MIB story. That felt like a writerly dissection breaking down, for future writers, what purpose stories needed to serve to be considered “MIB” stories. Which sounds pretty prescriptive, but it wasn’t laying out specific plot elements or mandatory scenes etc., it was more about the spirit of the story, the tone, the message.
I’m having to wrack my brains to remember more, but I think the larger universe being hidden in plain sight was part of it too? Which makes sense looking at those movies, where the aliens are often disguised in urban environments, or masquerading as humans.
It’s like cosmic horror but with a positive slant - “the universe is incomprehensibly big and I don’t understand anything but I still matter because the small affects the large just as much as the large affects the small”. That’s roughly the intended vibe of an MIB story. And if you go back and watch any of those movies, you’ll see that concept weaved throughout the films in ways both subtle and direct.

Sure was to me, that is fascinating but also makes me wonder what Bozo is in charge of that document for the Sony Spidey universe.

No. It was mostly a throwaway gag at the end of a fun science fiction movie.

It was just a funny gag for size.
I like when the size comparison videos on youtube include it.

No, but it would be funny if there was an alien on screen that looked like a marble.
