Personally i believe Michael bay's transformers movies where really enjoyable but i can understand the hate and criticisms the movies got.
I still believe that the movies made by Michael bay and ILM had the best animations, sound design and colour I've seen in a movie, even later transformers movies like Bumblebee or ROTB couldn't compare to the magic that was the first trilogy excluding AOE and TLK.
Absolutely not. If anything Wall-E probably has that title.

wall-e is solid but that's more of a pixar film than a "robot movie" in the traditional sense
bay's transformers had incredible visuals and sound design for sure, especially the first one. the way those robots transformed was genuinely impressive even if the stories got messy later on

How much more of a robot film can you get than having two robots being the main characters?
The Transformers aren't even the main characters in their own movie, if we're going to that level of 'umm actually'.

While I disagree with that commenter about Transformers, hes mostly right about Wall-E.
Wall-E is an anthromorphed robot, and not because he was designed to look like a human in universe.
You calling Wall-E a real robot movie is like calling Zootopia a nature documentary. Like yea, its a movie about animals, but they just act like humans.

Its a movie focused on a robot, the transformers are anthromorphed too, Zootopia is not a documentary, you can't make an argument for that if someone paid you a million dollars, what are we even doing right now

The transformers are physically anthromorphed, but they dont act like humans do. Why did Walle fall in love with a random piece of hardware again? Hes a trash compacter. The transformers have established in universe reasons for looking and acting like they do. Wall-e acts like he does because humans find it cute (human viewers of the movie, not in universe humans)
And clearly I was not trying to convince you that Zootopia is a nature documentary. Literally the exact opposite actually.
Edit: What a weird way to block someone.

Because he is built to (take) care. Not because he is built like a human, necessarily

He's built to gather trash and compact it into cubes.

Technically speaking Eva is an android, which is a fully artificial construct made to look and act human.

Legit awesome film - lot of heart to it. The final fight when Charlie directly controls Atom with his shadowboxing like it was a flashback to his prime years was so good.

The only good Transformers movies are the ones Michael Bay didn't make.

This.
The 1986 animated movie and Transformers One blow any of the Bay movies out of the water.

Cool opinion.
Shame it's **wrong**.
Like, *robot* robot movies? As others have said, *Wall-E* is far better.
Or do you mean the "mecha" aspect (giant humanoid robot) of it? Countless Japanese cartoons have done it better.

Well, I can only speak for myself, but it may give you a clue about the hate.
I've been somewhat of a Transformers fan since before the Michael Bay movies came out. I was specially into Beast Wars, the 90s CGI animated series, but I had seen some other cartoons too.
Then come the first MB movie. While it was ok, it lacked depth, was just too much action focused and the Transformers design are overtly complex and a bit messy. So just a popcorn movie. Then the second one comes and is arguably a little worse. Then the third one is a little better. After a few of these it just loses any appeal.
And after a while we got some excellent new animated series, like Transformers Prime, which, despite having been influenced by the MB movies a bit, it leagues better than any of the films. So it's like hard to enjoy movies that are so shallow compared to waht the animated series have to offer. We get way better storylines, characters and even robot designs in any of the animations, while the movies are poorer in every aspect.
So maybe this is what motivates a good chunk of the critics.

It seems you are narrowing down this quite a bit already towards action. To me, „robot-focused movies“ would be Ex Machina and the like

i get where you're coming from, but the first trilogy has its fair share of issues too. the visuals are dope, but the storytelling kinda falls flat. still, it's hard to deny the impact they had on the genre.

Wall-E is the best quality wise but even if you want to watch a movie about robots punching things, Pacific Rim is far better than Transformers
