Honestly I’ll be impressed if it makes it to the weekend. Still, even a shaky pause is better than nothing. Someone archive this headline for “remember when” later.

>Trump said that he had "directed Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Rubio" to work with the countries toward achieving "a Lasting PEACE," Why is Donald Trump, world's greatest negotiator, leaving this important task to a man who couldn't reach an agreement with the Iranians and a man who is too impotent to tell his boss the shoes he picked out are too big? Shouldn't inaugural football peace prize w***** and WWE hall of famer set the example by showing the world what the Board of Peace was designed to do?

He could: * kill a pope * kill a queen * cause the fall of the far-right party in at least two EU countries. Send him to the Middle East and prepare for the worst. Start stock pilling canned food, get solar panels for your home, etc.

> Lebanon must "take meaningful steps" to prevent Hezbollah from carrying out any attacks on Israel, the statement adds, while Israel "shall preserve its right to take all necessary measures in self-defense, at any time, against planned, imminent, or ongoing attacks." I know up to a couple years ago, it was generally accepted that Hezbollah was at least a match for the Lebanese army, and probably more then a match. Im very curious as to if Lebanon can actually prevent Hezbollah from doing whatever they want now. With Israel still occupying parts of Lebanon during this time, i doubt this will really pan out, but for the sake of the Lebanese i really hope there can be peace.
84
Best_VDV_Diver 2 days ago +18
More than a match. They'd have absolutely wiped the floor with the Lebanese military. Itd be a much closer battle now than, say, 5 years ago.
18
MeeseShoop 2 days ago +39
The Lebanese Army is currently stronger than Hezbollah, but not so much so that they can steamroll them. Any large scale dissolution of Hezbollah is only happening because Hezbollah wants to or as a result of another civil war.
39
fractalife 2 days ago -49
They're Iran. Hezballah is Iran. No, the Lebanese army is not a match for a country 10 times its size.
-49
MeeseShoop 2 days ago +33
That’s not really how that works. Was the Mujahadeen 1:1 with the US military or the Vietnam Cong 1:1 with the Chinese? No.
33
fractalife 2 days ago -34
Different organizations are structured and behave differently!? Wuuuut. You're kidding!! No, in this case, while Hizb has some latitude to make their own decisions, their highest leaders are something along the lines of colonels in the Iranian army. Sure, they have some capacity to choose their own actions but tdecisions ultimately come down from on high.

fury420 2 days ago +27
Lebanon agreed to much the same back in the 2024 ceasefire, it's the follow through that's the problem. >[From the specified time, Lebanon will prevent Hezbollah and other armed groups from conducting operations against Israel. Israel will not carry out offensive military operations against Lebanese targets."](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_Israel%E2%80%93Lebanon_ceasefire_agreement)

Issue is Israel makes it quite difficult by consistently voting against UNIFIL, any international presence in Lebanon and harassing peacekeepers ... The Lebanese army is a mess and desperately needs help.
-3
RaisinKahanes 1 day ago +3
It's the lack of UN peace keepers which are the problem? Don't be naive.
3
Jeslea 1 day ago -4
Israel's opposition to granting UNIFIL any means of actually ending the conflict is a huge problem, yes. It isn't the whole problem, but it is part of it. Israel's opposition is the reason UNIFIL doesn't have the disarmament of Hezbollah in its mandate to begin with ...

They want to incite Lebanon into a civil war so they can sit back on their freshly stolen land without resistance and watch the population drop while they plan their next bite.

Whole_Gate_7961 2 days ago +12
How can there be a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon when Lebanon isn't even fighting? Since when does the state of Lebabon control Hezbollah? These ceasefire are so dumb and meaningless.
12
lostsanityreturned 2 days ago +1
Because israel is in conflict with the entirety of Lebanon. Just not the entirety of Lebanon being in conflict with Israel.
1
Whole_Gate_7961 1 day ago +3
Are they fighting the Lebanese army as well, or just Hezbollah? Lebanon has no meaningful control over Hezbollah. They are a different faction than the Lebaness army. Has Hezbollah signed onto this ceasefire? Or are we gonna just say that they violated the ceasefire (that they were never a part of) when they launch a rocket into Israel? These "ceasefires" are all performative bullshit.
3
lostsanityreturned 1 day ago +2
You are missing my point. I am saying that in Lebanon Israel is destroying and killing what they like. And the only ones fighting them is Hezbollah. It was a quip in support of your questioning how there can be a cease fire.

24 minutes seems more likely.
3
chedder 2 days ago -3
Widewelly, it only lasted around 20 minutes. They wanted to "establish a new border" instead of going back to their international border. They started shelling 20 minutes later, hezbolah responded with rocket attacks.
