iraq and israel are at war? theyve been at war for 70 years? same as israel and syria, israel and iran etc etc. the whole arab world declared war in 47 and all but a few have refused to make peace since. most directly or indirectly attack israel regularly if iraq wants israel to treat it like a country it has peaceful relations with it, they could negotiate a peace treaty? and like, stop the direct/indirect attacks?

Yeah people like to ignore how these are countries that literally refuse to acknowledge their right to exist.

Wooden_Researcher_36 3 days ago +1
Maybe if the Israelis stopped doing shit like building bases on the other peoples territories. Or houses.

ADP_God 3 days ago +3
Stop attacking them and you won't have to worry about retaliation. True since 1948.
3
IAmTheNightSoil 3 days ago +4
That has been false since 1948. Israel is an expansionist state and has been from its founding

Why is it so bad at it? I think it was bigger in the 70s…

Why hasn't Israel expanded into Jordan or Egypt?

He's funny, and he's right. Is Israel attacking Egypt? No? Is Israel attacking Jordan? Also no? I wonder why that is.

Hi, I'm from Israel. They don't give a shit about us. Thanks

So why are you are trippin' about Israel protecting soldiers who fly dangerous missions against Iran?

I just replied to your consent as an Israeli citizen. It's unrelated to the post

The post is about Israel protecting soldiers who fly dangerous missions against Iran. So why you trippin'?

You want a secret room in your house that will get you killed if you approach the door?
-60
Celtic_Legend 3 days ago +57
This sorta leaves out the context. They're at war. Someone I'm at war with doing this seems fair whether I like it or not.
57
tvtowers 3 days ago -66
Israel isn't at war with Iraq.
-66
Turtlexya 3 days ago +49
Right, Iraq only joined the Arab coalition in it's invasion of Israel and never bothered for a peaceful resolution.
49
tvtowers 3 days ago -47
Invasion? Do tell.

1948, 1967 and 1973 all wars involved Iraq and they never signed a peace treaty.

Iraq does not even recognize Israel... They should start with that

That's an excuse to build a secret base in a foreign country? You want Chinese bases built in the States?
-1
chikybrikyman 3 days ago +5
Look up the "fox hunt" program. China is already operating secretly on foreign soil.
5
xmuskorx 3 days ago +42
Ohh no! How dare Israel protect its own citizens in existential war at the expense of country that refuses to even recognize Israel....
42
tvtowers 3 days ago +9
By setting up a secret base on foreign soil? Justify that instead of proudly flaunting idiocy that doesn't address the question.
9
xmuskorx 3 days ago +45
israel values lives of its citizens. iraq is an enemy that does not even recognize Israel. what is so hard to understand here? Israel takes obvious steps to protect its own. it's admirable.
45
tvtowers 3 days ago +5
I've indulged this stupidity too long. Bye.

Diurnalnugget 2 days ago
Want? No. Do they do it? To an extent yeah. They have secret “service stations” officially meant for services for administrative things but they have been caught involved trying to coerce foreign Chinese to return to china as well as serving Chinese intelligence. FBI tends to close them when they can. It’s not exactly nice but honestly I’m not surprised at nations building secret bases in other nations. I’m sure the US has their own bases here and there.

Substance_Bubbly 3 days ago +6
well if iraq doesn't recognize israel's existence, than who are they gonna file a complaint to? to israel or to the flying alien unicorns? at no point there was even a ceasefire between iraq and israel after iraq also attacked in 1948, and that was 2 regimes ago. nor after iraq's attacks on israel in the first golf war, which was on the prior regime. if iraq wanted peace with israel, they could try to negotiate into one, yet they never did. not even tried. aka, at no point the war between the two stopped or even technically paused, just got quiet a bit.

"Would" is an empty word. Even "will" is nothing until you *have*. I'm not a fan of any terrorist organization, not even countries that behave like terrorists. That includes Israel, Russia and the US.

Iraq launched hundreds of attacks against Israel in the past 2.5 years. Dont start a war and war won't come to you
92
DistanceToEmpty 3 days ago -94
Militant forces in Iraq, yes. But Iraq did not attack Israel in the past two and a half years. Iraq hasn't attacked Israel since the first Gulf War.
-94
deeznutz133769 3 days ago +115
"Militant forces", how convenient lmao. Then Iraq needs to get said 'Militant forces' under control or other countries will have to come in and control it for them. If you have 'militant forces' living in your country stages hundreds of attacks on other nearby countries, then it's not really a surprise that other countries would want it to stop, and they can't do that from within their own country. You can bet your ass that if a 'militant group' was attacking the US or China from beyond their borders they would put a stop to it, violently, and rightfully so.
115
reazen34k 3 days ago -16
Except wtf can Iraq actually do about any of this? Israel is part of the reason why Iraq doesn't have Saddam or also any real sovereignty or say in this whatsoever. It's necessary now only because of the U.S. and Israel's actions in the past yet somehow it's Iraq's fault lol.
-16
EquivalentOne241 3 days ago +14
These Iraqi Shia militias are funded be Iraqi government and armed by Iran. Iraqi government can do a lot of they really wanted to.
14
reazen34k 2 days ago
They basically fund paramilitary groups to have a fighting chance at peace and order, no they can't do a lot and hence why they employ militias.
0
EquivalentOne241 2 days ago +2
No, that's BS. Many of these Shia militias were formed during ISIS invasion of Iraq. That threat has mostly eliminated, thanks to Kurds and US/EU campaigns. They have Iraqi police and army to maintain peace and order.
2
reazen34k 8 hr ago +1
And they don't do so well at it for obvious reasons.

Is there a decree that says that if you aren't the government, it doesnt count? Hundreds of times in the last 2.5 years.
64
DistanceToEmpty 3 days ago -69
>Is there a decree that says that if you aren't the government, it doesnt count? Well, there's international law which doesn't look kindly on states attacking other states for the actions of non-state actors... But you said *IRAQ* attacked Israel, which isn't true at all. Nuance and accuracy matter in communication.
-69
meeni131 3 days ago +78
International law actually says it is Iraq's responsibility to ensure that other states are not attacked from its borders, and that if it is unwilling or unable to do so, then it is Israel's right to take action to stop that.
78
DistanceToEmpty 3 days ago -63
But they would actually have to give Iraq a chance to do that. Regardless, this base had nothing to do with attacking iraqi militants. Nor is there any evidence that the IDF attacked iraqi militants. So what does that have to do with the base that's the subject of the article that's clearly a violation of Iraqi sovereignty?
-63
meeni131 3 days ago +54
For attacking Iran, which has been the source of these attacks from Iraq. Give Iraq what chance? 2.5 years and hundreds of times is enough. If Iraq was planning on addressing that, they would have communicated with Israel about it instead of being a launchpad for attacks.
54
chikybrikyman 3 days ago +6
So those militant forces (which are Iranian proxies) are allowed to operate on Iraqi soil, and conduct acts of war against other countries? Isn't that the same violation of Iraqi sovereignty at best?
6
doubled_pawns 3 days ago +53
In fairness, they are just like their neighbors then.
53

Just like Iraq didn't respect theirs. Boo f****** hoo. Next thing, you'll be complaining that the inferior force who attacked repeatedly finally gets crushed for their efforts...

Is there a decree that says that as long as you aren't the government it's ok to attack another country? Hundreds of times in the past 2.5 years. Mainly, I'm still trying to understand what is "colonial" about this though

It's still iraq's responsibility to stop attacks on Israel from its territory. Considering they were islamic regime-ordered attacks, and done from Iraqi soil by iranian proxies, it's all part of the same thread.
93
Otherdeadbody 3 days ago -62
I wonder why you always address all the parts of their comments but the stuff that matters.
-62
meeni131 3 days ago +75
1. Don't attack Israel from your territory 2. Don't let Iran launch terrorist attacks on Israel from your territory 3. Otherwise, you are not sovereign in your territory and are a good place to launch attacks on Iran from. What's missing?
75
Otherdeadbody 3 days ago -50
They didn’t announce it or anything and when it was investigated they killed people. Not even any attempt at diplomacy. I’d say you could even be a bit threatening when doing it but just killing when they even try to see who it is ridiculous. If Israel wasn’t so eager to step on its own feet they could have just waited for the minor response where worst case they get to make it clear that death was on the table. People will look out for themselves and making it clear that you do it solely for yourself as well will make it worse. Would you rather a full out aggressive country near you? That’s how it happens.
-50
meeni131 3 days ago +63
Wouldn't the time for Iraq to have decided they want to be friendly with Israel was 249 attacks ago? What do you mean by "if they don't want an aggressive neighbor". The neighbor is aggressive already. If they had decided to make peace and actively prevent attacks, it would have looked markedly different. Jordan for example says they dont want their territory to be used for attacks and they stop attacks flying over their territory heading to Israel, which is the hallmark of a sovereign country and Israel doesn't setup secret bases on their territory
