Israel launches new strike in Lebanon's Khiam, Yohmor al-Shaqif amid ceasefire extension
Fresh Israeli attacks hit Khiam and Yohmor al-Shaqif in Lebanon. This signals renewed escalation along the southern border. The attacks occurred despite a recent ceasefire extension. Earlier, Israeli forces and Hezbollah fighters exchanged attacks. Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon left at least six people dead. Hezbollah responded by targeting an Israeli armoured personnel carrier.

At this point Hezbollah is a decapitated organization with no true leadership and vastly depleted resources. It's now a bit like saying a gang of homeless addicts with guns vandalized and shot at a government building, so it proportional for Trump to firebomb downtown Chicago. "They attacked first" is gonna be true every single day of the year for forever now

What’s the issue? “Hezbollah official says the group won't abide by any agreements from Lebanon-Israel talks in the US” https://www.thealbertan.com/religion-news/hezbollah-official-says-the-group-wont-abide-by-any-agreements-from-lebanon-israel-talks-in-the-us-12135367

There's not a ceasefire. There hasn't been. There are three groups involved. The fighting is mostly between Israel and Hezbollah. Negotiations are otherwise ongoing between Israel and the Lebanese government. Neither Israel nor the Lebanese government can realistically move forward until Hezbollah is dealt with. Hezbollah controls a fair amount of Lebanon, and they have been launching missiles at Israel for well over a year. Israel can't keep a significant proportion of the country evacuated indefinitely. The recent military action against Hezbollah has allowed the Lebanese government to start taking back some important parts of their country, and if Hezbollah is taken out, they will be able to actually negotiate a long-term diplomatic agreement. The absurdity of publications listening to Trump's blather about ceasefires that literally no one in the actual region is a part of is at best naive and at worst specifically disingenuous. This headline is so misleading it's just basically made-up. Even so, if you read carefully the article does acknowledge that this event is Israel vs. Hezbollah, and that both Israel and Lebanon have told the US representatives that dealing with Hezbollah is key to long term negotiations, which are still active between Israel and Lebanon.

If there is a ceasefire in the middle east and there is no one abiding it does it make a sound?

I loved the ref! Also, very good comparison.

The ceasefire terms allow them to strike in self defense. The terms of the last ceasefire, while not explicitly stating this, seemed to be understood by the US and Israel as also having this caveat. You guys should read the terms. Its available online

>last ceasefire You talking about the one where Trump said he’s disappointed in Israel for breaking the ceasefire?

The same self defense that causes them to attack Iran and get the United States involved? God I wish my tax dollars did something useful

While it is unlikely that Israel was under direct or imminent threat from Iran at the time of these recent hostilities, the regime is completely open about its desire to destroy Israel and has sunk tens of billions of dollars in its attempt to do just that. Its perfectly understandable why they would wish to overthrow the regime for that reason alone, nevermind how horrific that regime has been to its own citizens

Do you expect them to do nothing while Hezbollah continues to fire rockets at Israel? Because that's what triggered this response. Or do you just think terrorists should get a free pass?

> Or do you just think terrorists should get a free pass? Yes they do, but only when Israel is the victim.

You won't find a headline saying this though.

They are occupying part of the country. Hezbollah sucks, not defending them. Israel occupying parts of Lebanon though should be a non starter.

So what then do you expect Israel to do? Just play whack-a-mole with Hezbollah as they fire rockets and ATGMs into Israel? At some point it just has to stop, and the way to do that is to invade Hezbollah's territory. Lebanon wasn't doing it, the UN wasn't doing it, so now Israel has to go in to do it. Inaction allowed Hezbollah to become the largest non-state military in the world. I'm okay with Israel not allowing that to happen again, even if Hezbollah is on the wrong side of an imaginary line drawn up by the French and British a century ago.

So you think that Israel should retaliate to Hezbollah by launching rockets and killing more civilians? Cool.
1
SkinnyFatSoldier 10 hr ago +1
So you think Hezbollah should be left to attack Israel in peace?
1
Italian_warehouse 10 hr ago +1
If the only two options are Israeli missiles killing 200 Hezbollah and 500 civilians or invasion killing 200 Hezbollah and 50 civilians then invasion is the lesser evil

I’m saddened to see that you believe the things you do and profess them with such conviction on the internet to others. Hope this helps. ✌️

Do you know the terms of this ceasefire? Seems like you need to read up on them. Not all ceasefire are born equal.
