They will, once they finish bombarding Lebanon. How on earth people who have been victims of a holocaust, turn out to do exactly the same that was done to them?

Because that's what Zionism is founded on.

They have never been popular. And they know that. Life has never been this good for them so they are taking advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity to make their presence pernament, while weakening their enemies and wiping out the only people who have a claim to the land that they occupy. As a bonus, America and other nations will help them achieve their goals.

Because you can't overpower the inter-population selection instincts by history lessons.

because all of the ones that went peacefully are dead. The survivors told the next generation to not make the same mistake.

Hard to support Israel with shit like that continuing to cause more issues for themselves when homeless kids with no parents have no where else to turn to

I am not reflexively anti-Israel, but I think the U.S. should condition any further support on no new settlements being built and most existing settlements being dismantled. I know the Israelis will cry and scream that it’s impossible, but I am…..very skeptical of that.

Honestly, I think Israel knows it's in the midst of a US political realignment, knows it doesn't have a real home there post-realignment, and is cashing out everything it can now.

That is one of the paths needed for peace imho. If you want to stop terrorism don’t help encourage it.

It should also depend on Israel getting rid of their nuclear weapons, since the US has laws on the books against weapons aid going to countries that got nukes in defiance of the non-proliferation agreement. Just pretending they don't have nukes is ridiculous.

They truly are the ally we deserve. Seriously, why do we let them get away with this. The US’s support shouldn’t be unconditional. We should be able to tell a badly behaved friend to knock it off.

Comically evil trash state. Imagine if the Maya Conquest or US Trail of Tears was happening today?

It is actually happening today, and in a lot of places too...

Sees a critical post about Israel, rushes to write "b-but what about China??!!", misspells the name of the people he's supposedly standing up for. Absolute cinema.

Does actions in one place justify or dismiss the atrocities of another?

Neither. It's unrelated.

I mean, it's very clearly related if we're talking about modern analogs to the Trail of Tears, no?

True but most Western countries don’t ally with or provide aid to China. Also, China is a uniparty authoritarian state so the people have less chance to chance the country’s path.

I remember when the apartheid South African government did this and justifiably earned themselves sanctions and international pariah status. Well… except for the USA, which supported the apartheid government. Hmmm… seems oddly familiar.

Very true, and the right comparison to make. Hell, BDS is even [criminalized by the vast majority of the US.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-BDS_laws#Anti-BDS_laws_in_the_United_States) Even if you limit it to only boycotting (and hopefully sanctioning) companies and profits earnt from settlements and occupied territory in the West Bank or Gaza (but not Israel's internationally recognized territory), many think that's too far for some reason. Even many of those who would agree that boycotting apartheid South Africa was just. It's crazy.

Let's fix that headline ok? "Israeli government authorizes the theft of land from Palestinians in 30 locations." Truth in reporting

Israel is basically trying to secure its sovereignty over the region. From a cold, calculated geopolitical point of view, this was always going to be the outcome. Israel's current biggest geographic weakness is that it's core is extremely thin and the country could easily be split in half. Taking over the West Bank one way or another was always going to be a central goal of Israel. They did the same thing with Golan heights and southern Lebanon because Israel's second biggest geographic weakness is that it doesn't control the hills and mountains to the north. These high elevations make surveillance and reconnaissance extremely difficult for Israel but very easy for militant groups inside Syria and Lebanon. They can launch attacks from there and Israel can't really do much about it. Therefore Israel sought to control these lands themselves to give themselves that advantage. Gaza is actually similar. You could say it's Israel's third and probably final major geographic weakness which is the proximity of Gaza to Tel Aviv. Having your biggest enemy right next to your biggest and most important urban center is like exposing your privates to your ex wife who's holding a knife. It doesn't matter what deal is made with Hamas or any other group, this threat will remain the same until Israel fully controls the Gaza strip, which is what it's seeking to do. Basically Israel's goals is similar to Russia historically, which is to expand your borders aggressively until you hit a series of natural defenses that are more manageable to defend. Israel quest for contiguous and defensible borders explains all of their moves. It doesn't matter what government is in charge, they'll all eventually reach the same conclusion and act to pursue the same goals ultimately.
