L: Stop invading our territory I: Then do something about the terrorists who keep attacking us from your territory L: We can't, there are more of them than we have soldiers I: Okay, then we he have to keep fighting them ourselves Rinse and repeat for 40 years.

Lebanon needs help to disarm Hezbollah so they can control their own country They don't want Israel to do it but nobody else is stepping forward. Who else even could do it? Syria has plenty of motivation after the horrors Hezbollah inflicted on them but they lack any disciplined force to do it. So the question is when or if Lebanon decides it hates Hezbollah and it's Iranian puppet masters more than it hates Israel.

Getting rid of Hizballah is a mutual interest, so there's reasons to expect this to work out

Apparently the talks went very well. [Israeli Ambassador to US on Lebanon Talks: 'Excellent Discussions, We Addressed the Need for a Clear Border'](https://www.ynetnews.com/article/hlfkssjxy) >Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter, who participated in the negotiation meeting with Lebanon in Washington, said that "the talks were excellent, in an excellent atmosphere. We are united in the need to free Lebanon from Hezbollah." He added that "we discussed the need in the long term to see Lebanon prosperous, and the border between us as a permanent and respectful border, where people cross only in tailored suits to do business and perhaps also in swimwear to vacation."

Not too surprising, given that the Lebanese have been under a de facto Iranian/Hezbollah occupation for decades now. Now that Hezbollah (and Iran) have been severely weakened, the Lebanese finally feel emboldened enough to take a stand against them and boot them out of the country.
