RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) — Hajar and Rashid Hathaleen have always walked to school from their neighborhood on the outskirts of Umm al-Khair. But when classes resumed this week for the first time since…

Backing the settler's is Netanyahu's great unforgivable sin. He should have stood down and let another Lukid politician form a coalition with the centre right over teaming up with extremists.

Couldn't agree more. And now you have Smotrich and Ben Gvir going full blown manifest destiny on top of it. Bibi is willing to destroy all remaining shreds of Israel's diplomatic credibility to keep himself in power and out of prison. These elections couldn't come sooner. It really feels like we'll be able to kick him to the curb finally.

He'll start another emergency and use it to delay any elections.

Has never happened and is not gonna happen. Polling stations are usually close to shelters and it only takes minutes to get in and out most of the time. If Bibi did actually try a stunt like that it would cause a national crisis.

MetalBawx 3 days ago +17
You think he cares? Bibi knows he's going to jail if he loses power so what do you think this guy who's done nothing but put himself before his country will do when push comes to shove? He'll declare the vote fraudulent or pick another fight and delay the elections until it's "safe"

While entertaining to watch people project their own election insecurity on us...it just doesn't work that way here.

Then expect Trump to have a plane waiting for him come election day.

>Israeli settlements in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip (former), as well as in the Syrian Golan Heights, are illegal under international law. These settlements are in violation of Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, and in breach of international declarations. In a 2024 advisory opinion by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) relating to the Palestinian territories, the court reaffirmed the illegality of the settlements and called on Israel to end its occupation, cease its settlement activity, and evacuate all its settlers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_Israeli_settlements

Netanyahu has more than a few unforgivable sins. It's why he is facing a corruption trial.

TheColourOfHeartache 2 days ago +1
Those sins can be forgiven after he repays his debt to society with a jail term. This one cannot.

Knowledge is power and they are restricting access to basic education for these children, thats immensely immoral.

YogiBarelyThere 3 days ago -66
Palestinian education is obviously immoral. Indoctrinating children to be terrorists who believe in historical revision is child abuse. But that's not the topic here. The topic is; restricting movement in order to prevent terrorist attacks. Get it together, Jesus.

Yikes. Biased much? Nothing will ever change.
18
YogiBarelyThere 3 days ago -19
If there are people who abuse their children by indoctrinating violence through textbooks and religious worship then that practice should be stopped and their leaders ought to be removed. The consequences are simply physics.
-19

You sound very indoctrinated yourself.

How do you figure? It's not uninformed opinions I have. My views come from learning media literacy skills and applying rhetorical criticism. Those skills are learned through academia and my bias is checked in favor of truth. Have you ever considered learning how to learn?

That is good thing to say, i hope you can apply the same standards to everyone equally and not selectively: [https://countercurrents.org/2026/02/army-of-children-how-israeli-training-centers-schools-and-settler-violence-are-creating-an-army-before-adulthood/](https://countercurrents.org/2026/02/army-of-children-how-israeli-training-centers-schools-and-settler-violence-are-creating-an-army-before-adulthood/) [https://electronicintifada.net/blogs/ali-abunimah/i-picture-dead-arab-disturbing-video-israeli-childrens-words-echo-indoctrination](https://electronicintifada.net/blogs/ali-abunimah/i-picture-dead-arab-disturbing-video-israeli-childrens-words-echo-indoctrination)

" improvised fence is just the latest attempt by settlers to expand control in part of the [occupied West Bank](https://apnews.com/hub/west-bank) where [state-backed demolitions](https://apnews.com/article/west-bank-israel-palestinians-bedouin-settler-violence-c1f0207f558e98151333441e6065a086), arson and vandalism regularly occur and [settler violence](https://apnews.com/article/israel-palestinians-west-bank-settlers-violence-900ad24fd46e0ca5ae0de07c0328c960), at times lethal, is rarely prosecuted." -[WTOP ](https://wtop.com/national/2026/04/israeli-settlers-block-palestinian-kids-path-to-school-with-tear-gas-and-barbed-wire/) This doesn't seem to be motivated by the what the children are learning or content of what they are learning. This is the expansion of Israeli theft of land across the west bank, nothing new.

YogiBarelyThere 3 days ago -6
Only if you believe the illiterate law interpreters and have no understanding of the context of the territories or, they simply choose to lie and deceive.. And that's exactly who is teaching the children. Because some of the Palestinian people choose not to respect Israeli law and choose not to get permits that leads to demolishing of buildings. As far as violence and arson by Israeli citizens, I agree that they must be held to account under criminal law.

When the national security minister himself is caught on video speaking to a palestinian he is evicting, telling the palestinian openly that "jews are above the law" then it becomes pretty clear, no matter how much you sanitze what israelis do, they tell on themselves. This person is not fringe either, he is the literal ***National security minister*** , someone with power to command state officials and someone with significant say in how Israel runs. More specifically: "The National Security Minister in Israel, a position currently held by **Itamar Ben-Gvir**, is exceptionally powerful in the context of internal affairs, controlling the police, prison service, and, to a significant extent, the Border Police" How do you think the police, prison guards and border police will treat palestinians? How can palestinians respect laws that explicitly sees them as second class citizens? You people who wipe the ass of Israel disgust me more than writhing insects on the ground.
9
YogiBarelyThere 3 days ago -6
Palestinian people are not Israeli citizens. Arab Israelis are Israeli citizens. The Palestinian people have their own laws and when they enter into Israeli territory, they ought to respect Israeli law because of the obvious consequences. Just because one doesn’t believe in or respect laws doesn’t mean they should throw their lives away because of delusion. I don’t find you disgusting but I do find you pitiful. I am curious though because I have seen you post probably dozens of times, have you gone to university or do you choose not to learn how to learn?

If you didn't know, Israelis expand their territories, almost every single year. Settlements are supported by the Israeli government too, violent thieving settlers attack palestinian lands, people and villages. Its like if i lived peacefully in one area, and then you moved your flag to where i am standing and then you suddenly go "Get off my land, this is my land now". Do you see the issue? I don't need the pity of monstrous supporters who fail to see the problem, you have eyes yet you cannot see, you have a soul yet you don't feel anything for other souls, you have a brain yet you fail to think about why palestinians keep clashing with thieving settlers. You support theft of land, you support killing of innocents, you support superiority of israelis. Look at who and what you are supporting before spouting nonsense at others. Like in this situation, did you even take a time of your day to think "wait, israelis have settlements that keep expanding, doesn't that mean that they will eventually expand into palestinian villages?", you are so eager to argue but have no energy to imagine and reason.

I think you’re looking at this in a really one-sided way and your anger is limiting your perception.. Yeah, settlement expansion is real. No argument there. But that doesn’t automatically mean every single situation like this one is about “land theft.” Even the reporting itself shows there are competing explanations, including security concerns. You’re just picking one and treating it like it’s proven fact. You’re acting like the security side of this just doesn’t exist. It does. There’s a long history of attacks, especially during the Second Intifada and after, and that’s a big part of why barriers and restrictions exist in the first place. It is known that there are people who who literally celebrate the opportunity to break through a fence and murder anyone and everyone they see with AK47s. You don’t have to like those security policies to acknowledge they didn’t come out of nowhere. One of your personal psychological issues is that you are fixated on dehumanizing Israelis, and me too and I'm not even Israeli. That's a clinical empathy problem that we don't share because I do sympathize with the Palestinians but they've been very clear about their intentions and desire violence. Your selective empathy is like you're demanding people to imagine what Palestinians are going through, which is fair—but you’re not doing the same for Israelis who’ve dealt with attacks over the years. And realistically, if you want fewer barriers and fewer confrontations, that only happens if the violence goes down. That’s just basic cause and effect in any conflict.

So it’s ok that their land is being stolen?
2
YogiBarelyThere 2 days ago +1
If you look at the history from both sides you'd see there are legal findings and those findings although disputed suggest it was not their land,
1
ynwahs 2 days ago +1
The Israelis? We know! They were plopped down there after WW2. And slowly started claiming more and more land that doesn’t belong to them. What legal findings are there and why do they ignore history???

All Settlers in jail, their property seized and returned to Palestine.

The great tragedy is that the conflict has become sufficiently polarized that an awful lot of people either disagree with your statement, or agree and think it ought to include Tel Aviv.

DavidlikesPeace 3 days ago +14
Agreed. An uncomfortable number of folks in this forever war want to be the ones committing their own war crimes. The lack of a sense of shared humanity is stunning in Israel-Palestine. The cycle of violence brought out the worst in all involved peoples.  That being said, it remains important to stand for justice. Even if peace won't come to the region if Bibi leaves office or the settlers magically back down, this path only promises more endless violence

Yes let's solve generations of contempt and conflict laden with ethic tension and migration crisses with... More ethnic tension and migration crisis  It's hard to take a cause seriously if it proposes crazy and tone deaf non-starters that put even more lives at risk for a concept of revenge
13
agaloch2314 3 days ago -11
It’s meant to be a ridiculous statement. But tell me, what on earth would be appropriate given the crimes of Israel? The utter destruction of Gaza, the theft of land?
-11
DavidlikesPeace 3 days ago +10
Nothing can ever bring back the dead. We have to accept that biggest injustice first. The Troubles in Ireland didn't end with London razed (or the IRA blown up by homemade bombs). The Yugoslav war didn't end with Serbia flattened. Germany and Japan still exist despite their many victims. Half the world remains ruled by bloodstained tyrants. Life is full of injustice.  Wars like this end with a peace process to end the killing. Not a cinematic ending full of individualized karmic or happy endings.
10
agaloch2314 3 days ago -6
That’s not what I suggested, and I never mentioned the dead. The initial comment was about the ridiculousness of giving up Tel Aviv, so I ask if that’s preposterous, what, then, can compensate for the destruction of Gaza (to pick one example)?
-6
armywalrus 3 days ago +2
There isn't any thing that can truly compensate for the dead. Its either accept that, or accept endless war with fault on both sides. Both sides have done bad things since Israel stood up in 1949.

It feels like calling these Israelis "settlers" is grossly inaccurate - sort of like calling Hitler's treatment of Jews "impolite".

Will never happen as it's a slippery slope and if you go down that route how far back do you go? I agree with your sentiment but I don't think Israel is willing to cede all of its land.

Bring up this kind of thing to Netanyahu's cult of personality and at best they uncomfortably shift in place and tell you "yalla nu these palis would do x300 worse to us if they could, this is the middle east, why are you bringing this up, do you want the left back in power." This is the disease of the modern age. People's insatiable love for 'their team winning', as they pay hollow lip service to justice, kindness and decency.
