Anxiety? This is what they wanted! Down to the letter. They have been praying for Armageddon for decades, and now that it's here they don't want it? Go, die in the desert like your master demands, you feckless buffoons.

My aunt is a S. Baptist praying for the end times person. She smoked for over 50 years and 18 months ago she was diagnosed with cancer. For the previous 48 years any mention of "Hey maybe don't smoke 4-5 packs a day isn't healthy it can lead to problems" or "Remember your sister died from lung cancer due to smoking" would get you a firm rebuke and a stern "It's MY f****** life and don't you dare tell me what to do!!!" Now she's basically a 75lb shell of a person that will beg anyone that will listen that she doesn't deserve to die, she's afraid of dying, and that it's not fair she's dying b/c she's done everything the doctors told her after her diagnosis but is pissed the doctors told her there's nothing they can do. This woman is a DIE HARD trump supporter and has prayed that she lives long enough to see him eradicate Democrats.

You think she'd have different priorities given her condition. Just goes to show that MAGA is a mental illness

BilboBiden Mar 29, 2026 +319
My uncle has been taking care of her and is MAGA too but even he turns right wing media off because it's all hate and negative and he has had enough. Each time he turns it off my aunt will wake up and b**** him out (as much as she can) that she wants that on. Dude just wants to see sports.

Has she always been horrible? I just don't know how people end up marrying these monsters unless they are also monsters
142
BilboBiden Mar 29, 2026 +328
That's the kicker. She was not like this when I was growing up. She's the woman that got me into Star Trek and was HUGE into science, education, and other liberal stuff and had MSNBC or Weather Channel on every day. When I was a kid in the 80s both of them HATED TRUMP. Then something, around 9/11, made them snap and she started going down that batshit conservative road.

Sub-Mongoloid Mar 29, 2026 +302
People always say the right went crazy after Obama but they forget the insane level of Jingoism after 9/11 when they tried to pretend W was the greatest president ever. They pushed through horrible things and labled anyone who opposed war crimes as traitors.

fallen_seraph Mar 29, 2026 +107
I think we saw the same thing with COVID. I feel like that for some people when they realise/confronted with the fact that the world is bigger then you and outside of your control. That the world can and will make an impact on your own life they cannot handle it. So when this happens they grasp onto easy to understand and blame reasons why. It is I feel the same with conspiracy theories, the world is too complex so you simplify it, even if that simplification has no basis in reality.
107
zephyrtr Mar 29, 2026 +65
America seemed invincible and 9/11 and COVID both disabused us of that fantasy. And in witnessing the proof that Americans aren't exceptional, we're pushed into examining then what exactly are we? And a lot of folks don't want to know the answer.
65
thegoodnamesrgone123 Mar 29, 2026 +25
Trump and the media did a really good job of hiding the FAFO Covid. Even this website hid sublistnooks. I think if more people saw statements and videos of them down playing the virus and then pictures of their obituary some people might have chilled out.

Sub-Mongoloid Mar 29, 2026 +18

18
Mamba44723 Mar 29, 2026 +14
Not only that but Covid does a lot of damage to different organs and body systems, including the brain. And it’s not like Americans are the sharpest knives in the drawer to begin with…
14
0x7FD Mar 29, 2026 +20
I really feel like the world has collectively become more unhinged since Covid. I wonder how much of that is the damage to our individual brains on a mass scale.

I remember Dennis Miller's right wing heel turn after 9/11 (he was probably conservative already, but sheesh). Miller was going around saying "Did you know there are people who don't like America????" No shit, Sherlock. We bomb their countries and we bomb them some more and then some guys commit terror acts because that's what they have the ability to do. There's a great line in the movie Battle Of Algiers (1966, Gillo Pontecorvo, director). >Journalist: M. Ben M'Hidi, don't you think it's a bit cowardly to use women's baskets and handbags to carry explosive devices that kill so many innocent people? >Ben M'Hidi: And doesn't it seem to you even more cowardly to drop napalm bombs on defenseless villages, so that there are a thousand times more innocent victims? Of course, if we had your airplanes it would be a lot easier for us. Give us your bombers, and you can have our baskets.

TheAskewOne Mar 29, 2026 +58
I think that at some point, people realize that they don’t have the lives they wanted. They have dull and boring lives with not much exciting going on and they’re desperate for something to make them tick. Some leave everything behind and go live on a sailboat, some buy sport cars, and some become maga.

My mom got pissed at me when she asked "What kind of burial would you want should something happen to you before I die" and I said, being completely serious, "Cremate me. Put me in a cardboard tube, walk to the end of a pier, load me into a t-shirt cannon or a potato cannon and fire me into the glory that is the ocean. Then take everyone to a bar , get drunk, and talk shit about me and have fun".
62
occasionalopossum Mar 29, 2026 +44
Ive told everyone who might care enough to goto my funeral if you do prepare to speed run the grieving process cos at some point the food and drink that was spiked will kick in, the doors will be locked, the lights will start strobing as kraftwerk starts playing, and furries armed with paint ball guns will be there to stop any runners.
44
Idoodlestickfigures Mar 29, 2026 +12
I have the same plans. Cremate me and divide my ashes among my loved ones. Then have them go off to where ever and have them toss my ashes across the globe. In the end, we are just atoms. And I want my atoms to be all sorts of things and all sorts of people. That to me that is better than boxing my body in a coffin to do nothing but turn into a sealed in pile of goo and bones until someone digs me up centuries later. I, that is, the very atoms that make me, me, could have been so many things by then. Amazing things.
12
Snoo3763 Mar 29, 2026 +7
I'm sad she was pissed at you, I love that plan. I hope it actually happens one day, a very long time in the future in a world with more optimism than we have today 👊

Yeah my parents are in their 70s. They weren’t political at all when I was growing up. I don’t understand why they have fallen in with Trump. They can’t even explain why. I can’t comprehend this level of loyalty for someone who has given nothing. Literally nothing. All he does is take.

My grandmother was a serious smoker who turned mean suddenly. At her autopsy, following her smoking related death, we found out that she’d had a stroke at some point in the past and that it was probably the cause of her personality shift.
18
KendalBoy Mar 29, 2026 +16
9/11 was a huge negative shift for the country. Somehow they got the crappy idea that they would go to war to defend our country, but somehow they resent NYC being the target. As if it reminds them how unimportant they are, geo-politically. NYers did not want to go to war over 9/11, and it was odd watching RWers use it as an excuse for their ever present blood thirst. They weren’t “all NYC”, they had no idea at all.
16
RandomMandarin Mar 29, 2026 +10
People who say they're afraid they'd get mugged within 5 minutes if they ever went to New York City but they'd start wars on the other hemisphere over a high-profile attack on New York City.
10
KendalBoy Mar 29, 2026 +4
And they hate us for the many of the same reasons! Heathens making money, not segregating themselves and having a good time not being judgy and xenophobic. They’re so jealous that their talented classmates and cousins bailed for the big city and left them behind.
4
darcerin Mar 29, 2026 +32
That was kind of the same with my mom. When 9/11 happened she kind of went berserk with the "they're going to kill us all mentality", and started stocking up on batteries and flashlights and stuff if the power grid ever failed. (Thank goodness she didn't start stocking rations!). She became a real die-hard right-winger. Then she got cancer because she has been smoking since age 13, and died as a result. She was bitter about getting sick the entire time, as well. This was NOT a woman who preached hate and intolerance to us as kids, so it was kind of hard watching this aggressive turn in her behavior.

MAGA is a modern version of National Socialist German Workers' Party, let’s not kid ourself that it’s not. It uses the same playbook. I mean for heavens sake Elon Musk did the nazi salute in front of the whole world and we all turned a blind eye to it. Also ofc this piece of history: https://abcnews.com/amp/Politics/donald-trumps-history-adolf-hitler-nazi-writings-analysis/story?id=105810745 https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/politics/trump-said-hitler-did-some-good-things-and-wanted-generals-like-the-nazis-former-chief-of-staff-kelly-claims https://www.politico.com/news/2025/10/14/private-chat-among-young-gop-club-members-00592146 https://youtu.be/EDtPJYciGHk?si=7oUBTjHvw1vA4Smv

The Magas are the modern day Klanners. This country doesn't need to look to Nazi Germany for its inspiration. Maga is homegrown. Nazi Germany got their playbook from the U.S.'s well maintain segregation system, Jim Crow laws, Black Codes, prison to farm free labor system, the list goes on. The herendous way Black Americans were/are treated in this country inspired Hitler. We have done all this on our own.

It’s amazing how these Evangelicals tell everyone else they’re going to hell, and when their number is up and the Grim Reaper sends a save the date, they’re the ones TERRIFIED.
98
uniquecleverusername Mar 29, 2026 +35
As a former evangelical, it makes perfect sense that if you spend your entire life "knowing" a god you can't fully understand can send you to hell, at the end of your life, you'll probably be scared a god you can't fully understand might send you to hell.
35
VRNord Mar 29, 2026 +13
I think it is more of a case of them never fully believing their own bs, deep down. All their characteristic fervour and toxic acting out is just an outward overcompensation or projection for all their internal question marks they refuse to acknowledge. And then eventually comes a crisis of faith, which some pass and some fail.
13
Tibernite Mar 29, 2026 +8
Totally. I'm fascinated by esoteric woo-woo type stuff and your observation about a "God you can't fully understand," makes me think about how ostracized and persecuted the early Gnostics were. Gnostics whole thing was direct experience of the Divine which was a massive problem for the early church. Who needs the church if you can wander into the desert, fast for a few weeks, pray, chant, and meditate, and have a genuine revelatory experience? Can't have that. Now you need a church between you and God, you may never directly experience the Divine, and now you're terrified your entire existence because you've never experienced actual grace.

My grandparents raised me and were toxic as f*** when it came to anything religious. They were knee deep in conspiracy shit. Now they're in bad shape, facing dementia, can't take care of themselves, I cut them off but the one contact I have between them said they feel so regretful about a lot of things. Like, don't care, I've been saying it all along, they can't just take it back just because it feels like their time is short and they're going to die isolated from their entire family.

Meanwhile my mom is taking dietary advice from a former grocer who got his “wisdom” from an angel. She’s trying to find tomato products without ascorbic acid because this dipshit says it’s bad for you. Tried to explain to her that it’s impossible to do because it’s just vitamin c and tomatoes naturally have it, but this scam artist who isn’t even a doctor knows best. Dude trying to bring scurvy back. I don’t look forward to when the realization hits that this dipshit isn’t curing her cancer.

My seventy-something mom is like this but with the cheapest handles of vodka and off brand diet ginger ale (shudder). Right wing media all day long and slowly dying of a bad liver. She hangs giant gilded framed portraits of Lee and Jackson in her house along with a Christmas tree that never comes down covered in miniature confederate flags. Needless to say I’ve gone no contact.

I suspect a lot of them are hoping for the rapture because, in their warped little minds, it'll allow them to skip that scary having to die first part to get to heaven. Not that I think they're going there, but they do, & technically they'd get there anyway, so there isn't really any need for it to happen in their lifetime, except for the getting hoovered straight up part. Well, that, & the world being destroyed after they're gone. They operate entirely on fear & spite.
13
_ZoeyDaveChapelle_ Mar 29, 2026 +13
Let them all die alone, for the horrors and destroyed futures they have forced on the rest of society.. that will long outlast them. You shouldn't reap the benefits of a strong community when you've spent your life trying to dismantle it for others.

jizzlevania Mar 29, 2026 +14
This might be the best time to tell her the Bible actually says she's going to burn in hell for her beliefs since they're the opposite of the teaching of Christ. Tons of Bibles verses can be used to help her understand that she already accepted Jesus into her heart and promised God to live a Christ-like life and then didn't. The Bible is very clear there is no repentance for someone who does awful things in the name of the Lord.  You could also point out that all of her prayers to kill the bad guys took out her sister and now her. Be careful what you manifest  edit: losing faith or having doubt is forgivable & sins committed during a time of away from belief are forgivable because the person has no longer has Jesus in their heart. The point is you can't have both Jesus and hate in your heart and hate won.

The scary thing is: If these people are so delusional they think bombing brown people will let Jesus come and take them all to heaven as reward, what if he doesn't come? They'll come to the conclusion that they didn't bombed hard enough and think they'll maybe need to nuke them a couple of times to wake him up from his slumber. If the result is predetermined by god, there is nothing left as doubling-down until they get what they want. And spoiler, if anyone hasn't noticed: He won't come. No matter what.

I grew up in Toronto's Annex neighbourhood in the 1960s. It was full of young American men who would hang out in Jean Sibelius park smoking whatever-it-was-that-I-did-not-understand, playing acoustic guitars, and I especially remember one young man with an American accent explaining what he and his friend were doing with all these "stones" on a wooden board with a grid. Only later did I appreciate why they had left America to live in Canada: The lives of middle-class young men unable to buy exemptions for bone spurs were a sacrifice the old rich men were willing to make.

Republicans pushed America into the Iraq War and then the Iran War because their Christian supremacy took them into holy wars against the Middle East I refuse to engage any Republican in a conversation until they can justify their party’s religious holy wars that seem only to further the interests of the Epstein class They keep voting for death, r***, and pedophilia. Again and again and again. Sometimes their candidates get MORE popular when accused of pedophilia (looking at you, Roy Moore). I have no obligation to see anyone who does that as a fully developed human capable of independent thought.

Going by our experience with Brexit and the Tories - The problem mate is unless *forced* to do so, these people will never have that conversation with you, in fact they will continue to insist they don't even understand why they have to justify or explain away anything at all, and actually really its you who's being unfair for not talking with them freely and openly.

I still can't figure out if that was a case of having the mob turn on him or a case of people cheering like lemmings without really understanding what is going on.

Definitely the latter. The person with the microphone was pretty stupid. Imagine going to see (insert popular musical artist here), and after the first song, they yell into the microphone, "Who's having a terrible time tonight?!" They probably weren't listening to a f****** thing he was saying.

My theory is that being at CPAC flipped a "Biden is still President" switch for attendees. They heard a threat and just assumed it was against the dems because that's overall tone of the event

Not only that but conservatives have shown they basically have no inherent positions on anything. The entire ethos, to the extent you can still call it one right now, depends on Trump telling them what to think and do. The fact that he skipped this conference is actually kind of shocking.

The most poignant thing about this article is Gaetz saying he believes the President knows more than he does about Iran. While Gaetz is a moron, I would normally agree with him: the President **normally** is better informed than the rest of us and it's difficult for lay people to understand the full reasoning of any White House decision without access to the same information and hearing the same arguments his advisors made to him. However, knowing that they only allow loyalist supporters in the room changes that. After reading from other White House advisors that his circle are refusing to allow dissenting voices in the room, or that his military advisors are only allowed to tell him positive news so they don't upset him (because of his dementia), you can only conclude that the general public may, in fact, be better-informed than this President. That's terrifying when 15,000 ground forces are moving into the Middle East with the intent to invade, all for a war of choice. You have to ask, will a President who is waging a war on "vibes" and "gut feelings", and whose military advisors are only showing him curated 2 minute success stories, stop there? Personally, I'm strapping in to find out just how bloody and expensive the last months of a President with dementia can be.

This is what happened to Hitler at the end. Not making a facile comparison. Trump’s only got a few hundred thousand in concentration camps, and the killing isn’t industrial yet. But in the sense that a demented, drugged up leader is only getting the “good news” about his war…

Any president is only as informed as the advisers around him. Most presidents try to find at least some people who will give them bad news and tell them what not to do. Republicans even managed to get some in the cabinet the first round. Pedo Trump 2 has filled his advisers with sycophants and full blown cultists. Not all of them are if the same cult so there's infighting between them but no one is pushing back on Pedo Trump. Its the dictator's trap.  Intelligence is actually one of the places where politics matters less because whatever is said no one will typically make public for at least 20 years. But Pedo Trump as undermined the intelligence agencies so bad that he's getting bad Intel. (Not that American intelligence is actually any good, they easily fall for documentation and reports never thinking that systemic corruption makes such things almost useless for the defacto reason you're looking at it. )
13
Solid_Owl Mar 29, 2026 +4
I am reminded of the policy of having a mandatory detractor in every decision. Basically, if there are 12 people in the room and all 12 agree, it is one person's duty to be devil's advocate and ask why they might be wrong.

I'm reminded of this video from Perun about the Russian term Vranyo. https://youtu.be/Fz59GWeTIik?si=fomJdoESzWqO5K66 Basically I know you know I'm bullshitting you. But you need to deflect responsibility when upper management ask where things went wrong, so I'll give you plausible deniability. When the military has this Vranyo all the way down all decisions are based on lies.

So, Matt Gaetz is someone who MAGA still supports and idolizes?? The same Matt Gaetz who resigned in disgrace, just ahead of an ethics report which would have had him voted out of Congress by his peers? The same Matt Gaetz who paid for sex, and trafficked underage girls for sex? Okay, that one is on brand for MAGA
116
Ok_Second_2602 Mar 29, 2026 +20
He supports them for the same reason a number of disgraced politicians, celebrities, and billionaires still support them. MAGA and Trump are the only ones keeping them from being held accountable for their crimes and misdeeds. To go against MAGA risks losing everything for them. No different than a cult, because it is.

From the article: “I don’t want to see any more wars, and it’s kind of what we voted for,” she said. “But now we’re in a war, and I know Trump will do the right thing.” And that is exactly how cult members talk. We're just monkeys after all. Tribalism is in our DNA. We cannot look to all our shiny things to save us from ourselves. Government for the 21st century needs to be designed to recognize and account for our own natural tendencies. We talk about communism vs. capitalism, but I think the answer is neither. We need the Adam Smith and Karl Marx of this era, and so far all we have are people like Curtis Yarvin, and that ain't it.

Because there were still people with sense enough in his previous admin to not mess with Iran because they knew Iran would do exactly what they did. So many empty seats. What seats have butts in them are occupied by many suspicious to doubtful and distressed bodies. CPAC nose dive is a good thing to see. It means that people once easily fooled by snake oil sellers, con artists, thieves, and living pedophilic devils in senators' clothing...are waking up and seeing the truth more clearly. I reckon the period between being a fool and being a decent honest human is uncomfortable. A discomfort the liars cannot withstand. So, I say the CPAC, HF, GOP, CN fraud-fest downfall is a good thing. Now, how about those Trump-Epstein files we all were promised?

We talk a lot about how to fix the country, but so long as 30-40% of the country thinks like this, you’ll never get the country back on track. They are dedicated to its destruction and totally bought in to a billionaire-backed, algorithmically powered cultural fusion of religion and politics. And so long as institutions like the EC and Senate empower them, they can have outsized effect even when in the minority. And disaster is only ever one election away. Every non-conservative voter will have to vote in every election everywhere, year over year. And that’s JUST to stop the bleeding, not progress. I just don’t think you can do democracy like that. “Luckily”, it will all be put in stark relief when Trump tries to steal the election. I just hope that if we make it through that, we make the changes to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

This proves that religion, a mass belief of an imaginary entity. Is indeed cancer to human progress.
18
howdudo Mar 29, 2026 +7
Eh the real issue, imo is that the religious institutions are too powerful. Not the religion itself. A normal person who reads scriptures will settle on the 'its okay to be poor, God loves me. I dont need power, I dont need anything, Im fine how I am. Thank you God for my life.' Unfortunately a lot of people out there just see "omg that church is powerful and it looks like the people worship whoever is on stage. I could take advantage of this. I could be rich. I could be powerful. I could convince millions to do my bidding. They would pay me for me to tell them what to do."

He bought Trump full size cutout, he bought "cry liberal tear" whiskey glasses, etc. Our parents, Fox News watchers, always asked me why I am not nice to my MAGA brother, and why do I have to dispute his conspiracies at family gatherings. I told them, I do not bring up the non-sense, the MAGA side always has to come up with something new, and dumber than before, so I will challenge his stupidity with simple logic. Years went on.... as of this month, my Mom told my brother that Trump is a "dumb f***". He has nothing to say anymore, seems to hit him hard.
