Amid the howling winds of the Sweet Grass Hills lies Border Road, a 14-kilometre ribbon of manicured gravel stretching between the United States and Canada.

Reading the article, we're literally building a second, segregated road parallel to the original. The level of waste involved with this decision is nuts.

So the road is in the United States, is used by both Americans and Canadians, and.... Canada.... maintains the road. Plows it, grades it, keeps it open. Canadian equipment crosses the border to keep an American road open. What horrible neighbors those Canadians are, using their own money to keep American roads clear. /s Now, there will be a Canadian road, just on the other side of a shallow ditch that a Toyota Corolla could cross without getting stuck, that the Canadians will maintain for their own use, and the American road either goes unmaintained, or costs the US extra tax dollars to maintain. Great outcome. Just a great outcome. /s

That’s the “art of the deal” obviously negotiated by a graduate of Trump University.

Brilliant_Reply8643 Mar 29, 2026 +12
Took the words out of mouth. Art of the deal indeed. America running like a business is what we need. /s

And border patrol can detain these 80 year old men, who have been lifelong friends, for walking across the median.
19
allgonetoshit Mar 29, 2026 +48
As a Canadian, I'll say this is a good outcome for us. We need to decouple our two countries and maintaining infrastructure in the US is idiotic at this point. Sooner or later, the US-Canada border will no longer be the longest undefended border in the world as US imperialism seeks to violate our sovereignty. There will be no "great outcomes" anymore, all we, Canada, can strive for in the future is acceptable outcomes.

Sorry half of my country are dipshits. I have no idea what is happening and it’s disgusting and scary

More like 2/3, your abstainers are just as responsible for this situation.

Let's be clear, he got less than 50% of the vote. Studies have shown less than 40% identify as maga.

Sound kind of like the Gordie Howe Bridge, no?
8
allgonetoshit Mar 29, 2026 +8
Yes, although the Gordie Howe bridge has benefits for the city of Windsor as urban planning wise. Investing so much on the bridge without any reciprocity was probably a bad decision, but it was made a long time ago. Hopefully, we won’t make similar decisions in the future.
8
Old-Engineer854 Mar 29, 2026 +8
As an American, I'd love to see the existing (privately owned toll bridge) monopoly get killed off. Plus one and thank you for Canada building the Gordie Howe bridge!
8
DrCeeDub Mar 29, 2026 +5
But we’re calling this American road “The Trump Highway” and it will be the most beautiful road ever and so it’s definitely worth it and makes us so much more glorious of a nation. Yay!
5
shouldakeptmum Mar 29, 2026 +6
The American one will have a toll booth.
6
graveybrains Mar 29, 2026 +4
Boy, have I got a bridge in Detroit for *you* 😂😭

Is the US govt building this road or a private contractor with connections ……hmmmm

I think the "Trump derangement syndrome" is a real thing, only he's the deranged mf.

You'd have to be deranged to support him.

No doubt somebody’s a liar and trying to minimize the real danger it’s hundreds of billions

Trillions of Americans.

Millions of billions of trillions
2
GriffinFlash Mar 29, 2026 +15
Man, the Americans must really hate Canada, huh. First the library, then the bridge, and now a road. Not even getting started on the annexation threats or tariffs. Guess isolationism is the only way to go if we are the source of their problems. So much for "allies".
15
saiyanscaris Mar 29, 2026 +8
trump literally said we dont need allies
8
Wild_Read9062 Mar 29, 2026 +6
I am American by birth. I am neutral about that fact, as we all can’t choose where we’re from. I’ve never voted for a single Republican candidate in my life because I felt they were always wanting to take America in the directions we’re headed now. I am surprised at how broad they’re incredibly (bad, reckless, cruel, all of the above?) policies were. It seems they’re attacking things I never thought we’re under dispute (science? Education? Facts?). I imagine the world feels hurt, scared, and deeply disappointed in this country. I feel that way about the millions of voters who made this possible and (even worse) still actively support this nightmare. I cannot apologize for people who created this. I don’t their apologies will ever be enough, because there’s so much that an apology can never fix. But, I hope the world know that there are many Americans like me who deeply value our allies, our neighbors and our fellow world citizens. We are in this as much as you and we have no idea where things will land. We’re just hoping to survive.

Toomanyeastereggs Mar 29, 2026 +2
You should declare independence. Maybe the sovereign cookers have a point.
2
ramdomvariableX Mar 29, 2026 +26
What's his beef with Canada? They have been great allies for more than a century.
26
Lynda73 Mar 29, 2026 +28
Indeed, what’s the possible reason for alienating our closest allies? Almost like the person in charge does not have the best interests of the nation in mind. Sorta like how abusers will make their victims stop talking to family and friends right before escalating the abuse. Weird.
28
chaostheories36 Mar 29, 2026 +14
Are you trying to tell me that donald trump, convicted felon, rapist, and pedophile, doesn’t have good intentions for the nation? Because if that’s what you’re saying, you’re totally right.
14
Lynda73 Mar 29, 2026 +2
We’ve known he’s a greedy rapist loser who likes putting his name on things and pretending he owns them for decades. Gotta wonder about the people funding his campaign, for sure.
2
chaostheories36 Mar 29, 2026 +4
His best talent was conning people and he really doesn’t have that anymore. He never wanted the presidency, we wanted to lose in 2016 so he could rant and rave about election theft and start his own media company. It’s why he was relatively harmless in his first term compared to now. Heritage Foundation and all the dark billionaires who’ve been angry since the New Deal in the 1930’s had four extra years to really plan project 2025 and put Trump under their thumb.
4
ChunkStumpmon Mar 29, 2026 +3
All of these articles should begin with “in Russia’s interest, not America’s Trump decides to:”
3
saiyanscaris Mar 29, 2026 +9
he wants it to be the 51st state. this is another escalation to getting that wish
9
god_peepee Mar 30, 2026 +1
The only way that would ever happen is through military force, and that option pretty much died after starting this war in Iran
1
mvallas1073 Mar 29, 2026 +7
Did you just wake up from a nap you started in early 2024? Trump has pissed off everyone (except nettanyahoo (sic)) because he’s a raging toddler
7
kia75 Mar 29, 2026 +4
Trump doesn't believe in "allies", and he sees doing something that benefits anyone else as a sign of weakness. Therefore any mutual benefit action, Trump won't do or let the US do for Canada, and anything Canada does Trump takes as a weakness and tries to force them to do more. Just stupidity after stupidity.
4
maxburke Mar 29, 2026 +7
It's beyond riciculous, it's insane. Of course, the vast majority of Montanans voted for it when they voted for Trump.
7
ElysiumSprouts Mar 29, 2026 +6
Trump is a lying liar and I'm sick of the GOP cheerleaders supporting this insanity. Trump is just the visible tip of the iceberg and only exists because of the huge support floating below the surface.
6
mvallas1073 Mar 29, 2026 +5
Remind everyone that the GOP can remove Trump by tomorrow if they do wish. They’re the reason Trump is doing this, not Trump (ironically)

Catspaw129 Mar 29, 2026 +4
"*The shared road is on the Montana side, but Alberta maintains it.*" Maybe I'm being silly,,, I'm just throwing this out here to see if it sitcks, but maybe Canada should annex Montana as an 11th Province?
4
Browncoat23 Mar 29, 2026 +3
Alberta is full of MAGA fans who’d like to secede from Canada, I don’t think Canada wants to encourage that by bringing in more Americans.
3
birdpix Mar 29, 2026 +1
Careful, those could be fighting words to some!
1
Catspaw129 Mar 29, 2026 +3
You betcha! I'm having a hard time finding that clip from The West Wing in which Kate Harper threatens to shut down Canada Goose hunting season.
3
Catspaw129 Mar 29, 2026 +3
Next up: They'll be closing the Haskell Free Library and Opera House because there are DEI-adjacent materials on the Canada side. currently /s, but give it time. ProdoRock Mar 29, 2026 +2
I think the narcissist because he's been hurt, pushes other away. Precisely BECAUSE he feels like other people have slighted him, he spends his entire time now doing it to others. The US administration under Trump is acting like that.
2
tfenraven Mar 29, 2026 +2
I remember when I lived in Minnesota most of my life, you could cross that border without a passport. I miss those days.
2
feor1300 Mar 29, 2026 +2
>“And the border will be in the ditch,” he said with a laugh. Well, if that doesn't just exemplify US/Canada relations these days...
2
chickendelish Mar 29, 2026 +1
Who's gonna maintain the road now?
1
yungthirtysomething Mar 29, 2026 +1
this should for sure be the top priority
1
Snoo_censorspeech Mar 29, 2026 +1
Treat border patrol like prison guards, they deserve hate and public scorn. F*** your border lines and f*** any government that violates a humans intrinsic rights to independence and freedom.
1
polebridge Mar 29, 2026 +1
Used to be another crossing further west in Montana north of Polebridge, has been closed now for years. Neighbors still used to visit back and forth until they bermed it. I think if you tried to cross now a drone would show up in seconds. https://maps.app.goo.gl/kEpXu6K4Y8CLKfJP6
