Let me translate that for you: "Jack black is promoting a major studio movie and really doesnt wan't to talk about Tenacious D right now"

As long as there’s a record deal they’ll always be friends.

How about just a tribute to Tenacious D. Not the actual band, this is just a tribute.
181
steveatari Apr 3, 2026 +93
KG should capitalize the F*** out of this bigtime. He could tour and record with constantly changing guest artists and have it be more a tribute and jam sesh with whomever wants to join. I'd go to that and it would be so media friendly because the jokes and one liners, news quips would endlessly repeat it. Les Claypool meets the Aquabats and even do an online show. It'd be yuuuuge.
93
grafittibob Apr 3, 2026 +25
KG is on tour right now.

Can't wait for the reunion tour which is likely to be spurred by a movie with a lousy box office or a fizzling career in general.

And meanwhile Charlie Day was asked on the tour  “Who’s your favorite Luigi in recent American history”, named Luigi Mangione directly and made Keegan-Michael Key crack up.
528
satch_mcgatch Apr 3, 2026 +125
Key was cracking up before Charlie even answered. The question was so obviously a set up. Key even leans on the the other interviewer while he's laughing cuz he knew this was crazy. The interviewers did not expect Charlie to actually just say the obvious answer out loud even though it was clearly what they were implying. Charlie gets Nintendo points for saying himself as #1 Luigi. Key loses Nintendo points for talking about grooming lmfao
125
DuckSoup87 Apr 3, 2026 +25
Yeah ok, just saw the clip, the interviewers are pretty famous Italian comedians who have a podcast together (Tintoria) where they interview showbiz people. That question is 100% in their style and 100% a set-up. Typical stuff they ask includes "who's your favorite dictator?" and "tell us about a time you had to shit at the worst possible time, in the worst possible place".

Fuckin lovely. Never change, Charlie Day.
29
VaporCarpet Apr 3, 2026 +2
I literally cannot make a single other Luigi in all of history. I can vaguely recall fictional characters that were probably named Luigi. None of the ninja turtles were Luigi, no other Renaissance artists I can think of. Trying to put it in front of famous last names didn't help, there's no Luigi Versace or Luigi Armani. The closest I came to remembering one was quickly struck down because it was actually Bela Lugosi. I ended up browsing the Luigi page on Wikipedia and didn't recognize a single name.

I can’t believe his bandmate even got cancelled out of all the people who need to be cancelled. Donald Trump today said we need to bomb Iran back to the Stone Age where they belong. What did his bandmate even say that could possibly be worse than that? Didn’t he just imply trump should be cancelled too.
45
benigntugboat Apr 3, 2026 +47
He joked about wishing the person who shot trumps ear had better aim basically. Wasn't said in a serious light and clearly wasnt a planned joke. He got canceled by Jack black more than anyone else. Not maliciously but I dont think any one else who isn't a publicist or executive would have gave a f*** about it a month later if they didn't respond so seriously and cancel their tours. I get the reaction with safety concerns in such a political environment but holding on to it now is more questionable to say the least. Personally I thinks its spineless of anyone to not speak ill of trump and actively disparage his fascist rule right now. But it should be clear that its more a lack of doing the right thing by Jack here. He didn't do anything that is actually wrong. It changed my opinion of him but there are way better targets for criticism in actual terrible people instead of kind of soft career focused musician/actors
47
Ilhan_Omar_Milf Apr 3, 2026 +6
There was also this window in 2024 2025 were a lot of people were betting on some permanent right wing cultural shift woke backlash that was really over exaggerated and is mostly dead now Like trump was going to have reagan mondale numbers
6
bingcognito Apr 3, 2026 +16
> What did his bandmate even say that could possibly be worse than that? All Kyle said was, "Next time don't miss" after one of the Trump assassination attempts. And yeah the orange a****** has said much worse. But Jack needs that Disney money, so Kyle got thrown to the wolves.
16
deenaleen Apr 3, 2026 +16
>Didn't he just imply trump should be cancelled too So what Kyle Gass said was, "Don't miss Trump next time," shortly after one of the assassination attempts. Diaper Donny has **definitely** said worse, but what KG said *is* more extreme than just implying the turd should be canceled (which he objectively should be). Frankly, it's insane that KG is the one that's been canceled.
16
MAG7C Apr 3, 2026 +4
And we're all living in a world where KG didn't get his wish.
4
thelingeringlead Apr 3, 2026 +5
I saw them two years ago, they did all his kids songs, including peaches, on top of all the tenacious D hits including closing the show with f*** her gently. It was hilarious. SO many parents brought their kids in mario and minecraft shirts.
5
thelingeringlead Apr 3, 2026 +18
I saw them on the tour that ended in that controversy, they were playing all their tenacious D standards, but also playing all the kids songs like Video Games and Peaches pandering to both audiences. Then they closed the show with f*** her gently.....they opened it with Kickapoo lol. It was absolutely hilarious how many little children were in the audience for that show in mario, kung fu panda, and minecraft shirts. The whole show they pretend the pyrotechnics are malfunctioning and they blame the pyro tech, and jack is cursing at him with super vulgar language the whole show even asking the audience to flip him off lol.

I saw the D in 2019 and the entire show was a rock opera where they traveled a post-apocalyptic wasteland with a literal terminator robot, killing Nazi-Klansmen led by Don Jr. Like… come on man. That wasn’t new for them.
60
nopalitzin Apr 3, 2026 +15

A lot of people don’t understand that part of making a movie is a contractual obligation to promote said movie. And studios don’t really like paying you millions of dollars to promote your own shit at their junkets. It amazes me that professional interviewers even ask this kind of question at an event that is obviously about talking about the movie he’s in.
13
BurntWaffle303 Apr 3, 2026 +9

Same, Jack Black is a shell of the man he used to be. He hasn’t even been in anything good for years and it seems every project he’s involved in is a cash grab.

À good point. He used to be this awesome comedy rockstar who'd sometimes do goofy movies and part of the hilarity was that he'd pop up in the likes of jumanji or whatever. Now that's *all* he does.

The two of them opened for Run the Jewels as a DJ set and they were having so much fun together. It wasn’t even a Tenacious D performance, it just looked like two friends having a blast. Very sad about all this. Edit: Have no idea what I was thinking typing Run with the Jewels.

They came out as “Tenacious DJs” and it was such a fun opening set. They were definitely having a blast but only really had to ham it up while a playlist was on. So glad I saw that performance and was bummed they had to put their tour plans on hiatus

16

3
Plappedudel Apr 3, 2026 +144
Typical tabloid BS from TMZ. Neither JB nor KG has ever stated that they split up. A reunion requires an actual prior split. To me, it seems like they're simply on hiatus and will come back once the political climate has cooled -- if and when that ever happens. KG is on tour with the Kyle Gass Band anyway at the moment.
144
DelirousDoc Apr 3, 2026 +57
Technically they cancelled their tour and Black said "all future creative plans are on hold" in summer of 2024 when Gass made a joke about Trump assassination attempt. That could be a split up. In early 2025 did a cover of REO Speedwagon "Keep on Loving You" for a charity compilation album. Other than that they have not done anything else as Tenacious D and have not performed live since that July 2024 comment.
57
A_Nice_Sofa Apr 3, 2026 +5
If you get the opportunity to see Kyle Gass on tour, highly recommend. Great show, regional support acts were bomb, cost 12 bucks.

It's wild how so much of his career is like child friendly and then there's soooo much that's for... well not kids . Imagine kung fu panda singing . Javerage Apr 3, 2026 +349
I was at the concert when it happened and it was so mundane. A more realistic explanation was that people started putting together pretty quickly what route he walked with his kid to his kid's school. A more corporate answer is that Nintendo didn't want any controversy to accommodate his appearances because of the Mario movies. If he really did wanna appease the right, he wouldn't have participated in so many marches against Trump.

Someone doesn't pay attention to the shit JB posts on socials. Dude is absolutely NOT about pleasing Trump & Co.

Listnook doesn't give two shits about celebrities outside of the opportunities they get to trash talk them in the comments. Listnookors live on the bandwagon, and jump from one to another, physically incapable of actually touching the grass beneath.
16
DeadpoolVII Apr 3, 2026 +6
Yep. It's rather silly. Purely about feeling better about themselves. JB rules. Is he perfect? No, but no one is. Guy has been true to himself through all the fame and fortune and that's an extreme rarity. His vid driving around LA asking skateboarders to do a kick flip and then giving them free shit was so rad.

Eh. I have no plans to see my cousins but that doesn't mean I won't see them.

chesterforbes Apr 3, 2026 +11
I’m sure it’s ok to say that we wish the would be assassin had actually hit his mark by now. Would have saved a lot of people a lot of money and a bunch of kids their lives

Imcoolkidbro Apr 3, 2026 +3
it was acceptable back then too

haysoos2 Apr 3, 2026 +6
It would be pretty f****** weird if he announced there *were* plans to reunite. Like they expect him to whip out a Gantt chart, and show "Here in Phase V, following Minecraft 3 and my failed solo album, we will reunite for a 'spontaneous' concert on the roof of Teddy's Chick'In Shack in Gatlinburg, Tennessee"?

Are you funny and charming and goofy like jack black?
4
goliathfasa Apr 3, 2026 +3
Well, good to know there’s equal amount of planning for a Tenacious D reunion and the US starting the Iran war.

smoresporn0 Apr 3, 2026 +3
I'm so glad I got a chance to see them on one of their few shows before they went on their last tour. For c****, too! Tickets were only like $30.

Trump either directly or indirectly ruins EVERYTHING.

analogkid01 Apr 3, 2026 +3
"The voice of Bowser himself"...yes, when I think of Jack Black's body of work, *Bowser* is the first thing that leaps to mind.
3
SightAtTheMoon Apr 3, 2026 +3
Good, f*** Jack Black.
3
Kummakivi Apr 3, 2026 +6
Best time to reunite will be when Trump is out anyway. Celebrate big time then.

nova2k Apr 3, 2026 +5
I'm really interested to see how the powers that be will try to tamp out the sheer global jubilation that occurs when the day arrives.

He's become so insufferable in the past 15 years, I guess his persona is for kids now and that plays a large part in it I guess. And dumping the Oz tour was a super shitty thing to do that was only done to appease his movie interests. But I was always fond of the School of Rock and early Tenacious D days.

Shageen Apr 3, 2026 +2
They will probably wait until Trump is gone. (Whichever meaning of gone you choose)

Is everyone still mad at Kyle? I honestly forgot what he did.

It was crazy. Last week Kyle quit the band.

Misunderstanding.. Didn't understand..

Kyle spoke out against the president, albeit calling for violence, jack black said woaaahhhhhh, I got a nice career going.

cheesebiscuitcombo Apr 3, 2026 +38
Nah he wasn’t calling for violence. He said it was a shame the guy missed. Dumb thing to say maybe, but not calling for violence…

DelirousDoc Apr 3, 2026 +2
Technically. They were on tour in Australia and happen to perform on Gass' birthday. A cake was brought out by Jack Black and the crew. Kyle made his wish before blowing out the candles. He said "Don't miss Trump next time." This was on July 14th 2024. The Trump assassination attempt happened the day before on July 13th. I think the timing was the biggest reason for the backlash. It was 24 hours after the incident and political violence had been increasing so the message all sides wanted to push was to not condone political violence. Had he made the joke now, it probably would have blown over.
2
djackieunchaned Apr 3, 2026 +15
I mean, thats not exactly what happened. Kyle made a joke at a concert insinuating he wished trump has been assassinated
15
Haunting_Role9907 Apr 3, 2026 +8
Which has implications on tour feasibility, security and insurance costs can skyrocket. It's a business that supports a lot of people, not just the members of the band.  I don't think Jack Black is any fan of Trump.
8
NebbyOutOfTheBag Apr 3, 2026 +4
Well now it's supporting 0 people because the band is doing no touring which means less work for stage crews and the people behind the scenes that make the thing go. Maybe Jables can spare some of his Bowser money.

CP066 Apr 3, 2026 +11
He said what a lot of people were thinking. That's why no one really remembers or cares.
11
LandoDupree Apr 3, 2026 +3
What's he gonna do with all the cash?

future23123 Apr 3, 2026 +2
I remember The Tenacious D being a piece of shit movie of immense caliber.

the_main_entrance Apr 3, 2026 +3
I’m not 14 anymore so this doesn’t effect me.
3
daesgatling Apr 3, 2026 +5
I mean this is NOT a safe atmosphere right now when the cult leader and his gun happy psychopaths are in charge. Jack Black is doing nothing wrong by not wanting to put a possible literal target on them after his bandmate wished the cult leader got assassinated.
