Talarico is going to be the new Senator of Texas.
1
Clear_Director_8399 Mar 26, 2026 +1
I think he should keep going and become president
1
B-Z_B-S Mar 26, 2026 +1
He's way better than our current president. (Although, to be fair, a paper bag would be a better president than Donald Trump.)
1
someoldbagofbones Mar 26, 2026 +1
But a paper bag full of shit would just be Trump.
1
ScrappleOnToast Mar 26, 2026 +1
The difference between Trump, and a paper bag full of shit, is the paper bag.
1
Able-Contribution570 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Every paper bag full of shit I've known still had a healthy repsect for due process and equal protection of the laws, nor did the bag of shit attempt a coup, or violate the emoluments clause, or commit multiple felonies, or r*** kids. So imma put the shit filled bag ahead of Trump. Way ahead.
1
Rowing_Lawyer Mar 26, 2026 +1
A paper bag full of shit would be better than Trump because it would just sit there instead of making all these terrible decisions
1
Dr-Mumm-Rah Mar 26, 2026 +1
Hey now, lets not waste a perfectly good paper bag here.
1
Hybrid_Johnny Mar 26, 2026 +1
The difference is that an upside down paper bag still spills the shit on the ground
1
Office_Hendo Mar 26, 2026 +1
More like a paper tiger full of shit… amirite?
1
UghFudgeBwana Mar 26, 2026 +1
Bar so low it's being used as a speedbumb in hell.
1
CharacterUse Mar 26, 2026 +1
The way things are going to hell, it's not even a speedbump.
1
Rhoeri Mar 26, 2026 +1
Just the concept of a paper bag is better than what we have now.
1
CrackSmokingGypsy Mar 26, 2026 +1
A flaming paper bag of dog shit is better.... Don't put it out with your boots Ted!!
1
_lippykid Mar 26, 2026 +1
*paper bag, full of dog shit, on fire, on your front porch
1
TehMikuruSlave Mar 26, 2026 +1
if he wins a texas senate seat he better hold onto it until every other statewide seat is a democrat and a democrat governor can appoint his replacement
1
SodaCanBob Mar 26, 2026 +1
This is exactly how I feel too. If he wins, I'd be disappointed if he decided to run for president because he seems to be a once in a life time candidate and leaving the senate to run for president would likely mean that seat would just resort back to a republican. If a D in Texas can manage to win a statewide seat for the first time in 30+ years, *they need to hold that position*.
1
meltdown_popcorn Mar 26, 2026 +1
I don't think he would do that. He seems focused on issues that impact Texans.
1
nowhereman136 Mar 26, 2026 +1
I'd vote for him tomorrow if he was on the ballot against any prominent Republican. But I would like to see him work the senate a bit first before he considers a White House run. Maybe 2036 or 2040 depending on how the next few elections go
1
heeeeres_jonny Mar 26, 2026 +1
This is the way
1
WorkerWonderful3900 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Let's see how Senator goes.
1
Grandolf-the-White Mar 26, 2026 +1
Pete Buttigieg so mad right now
1
Prudent-Air1922 Mar 26, 2026 +1
He's one of the bigger sellouts, and rubs me the wrong way.
1
my5cworth Mar 26, 2026 +1
I'm a bit out of the loop, what did he do?
1
thecomeric Mar 26, 2026 +1
As a Texas I hope this to be true however I find that more and more protestant Christians fully buy into MAGA Nationalism so I don't actually know how much Talaricos religion is actually going to benefit him. I will turn up to vote for him for sure but when I talk to real people about it they all say he thinks God is trans and wants to make veganism mandatory.
1
RavenOfNod Mar 26, 2026 +1
As a Texas I hope this to be true too
1
PlethoraOfPinatass Mar 26, 2026 +1
Watching those fundies bury their heads in the sand and cling to literal readings, when we have access to all the oldest biblical sources at our fingertips, makes me laugh every time
1
Mouthpiecenomnom Mar 26, 2026 +1
Recently learned about the Ethiopian bible. Quite interesting indeed! Good YouTube vids out there.
1
Auzziesurferyo Mar 26, 2026 +1
>As a Texas I hope this to be true however I find that more and more protestant Christians fully buy into MAGA Nationalism. They also believe in the prosperity gospel, which has the unfortunate affect of slow corruption under the guise of the richer you are, the greater you're blessed, and therefore you must be doing God's will. I
1
ucankickrocks Mar 26, 2026 +1
By my vote, yes.
1
andyraylan Mar 26, 2026 +1
Do you genuinely think? I don’t live in Texas so my grasp of the local politics is limited, just what I see on national news.
1
B-Z_B-S Mar 26, 2026 +1
If Paxton wins the Republican Primary, then definitely. If Cornyn wins, it's less certain, but I'd still give Talarico better than even chances at this point.
1
andyraylan Mar 26, 2026 +1
Sounds possible. Wouldn’t that be something?!
1
PlethoraOfPinatass Mar 26, 2026 +1
Cornyn went to bat for Trump just this week, endorsement could follow. [https://www.foxnews.com/politics/cornyn-targets-lawmakers-airport-fast-pass-tsa-lines-grow-during-dhs-shutdown](https://www.foxnews.com/politics/cornyn-targets-lawmakers-airport-fast-pass-tsa-lines-grow-during-dhs-shutdown)

Fingers crossed. The aggregator I follow has him as a 2:1 underdog rn.

Good, let him work well. I believe he will do better as a president.
1
NiceTrySuckaz Mar 26, 2026 +1
a* new senator
1
FiorellaMamdani Mar 26, 2026 +1
Yep. I hope he's just been hammering ads against republicans while they need to waste time in a runoff
1
devindotcom Mar 26, 2026 +1
“Jesus loves. Christian Nationalism kills. You may pray for my death, Pastor, but I still love you. I love you more than you could ever hate me.” Class act and clever turnabout. Even if we give the other guy the benefit of the doubt that he only meant Talarico's "heart" to die and him be reborn spiritually... he got outplayed. Looks like a hateful chump now and Talarico comes off as both victim AND boss.
1
Grandolf-the-White Mar 26, 2026 +1
Absolutely wild to hear a Christian talking like Christ.
1
TheOnlyVertigo Mar 26, 2026 +1
Quite literally loving his enemy as himself.
1
Glum-Estate-1088 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Classy as f*** baby! What a response! Defend yourself when possible, but kill em with kindness to really f*** with em.
1
LadyPo Mar 26, 2026 +1
I cannot imagine saying that I love Hegseth, ever. He certainly has the suppressed gag reflex it takes to be president. Definitely a smooth move. (After typing that out, yeah… bubba jokes inbound I’m sure…)
1
OhDivineBussy Mar 26, 2026 +1
He fuckin hits with the best and most palatable, soul crushing retorts. I’m an apostate, the worst thing someone can be according to Jude 1:11-13, Hebrews 6:4-8 and 10:26-31, 2 Peter and 2 Thessalonians 2:3, but I have been proudly voting for James ever since 2020. He actually tries to legislate from a place of love and care for the most vulnerable, so all the best parts of the message of Jesus that are, in a practical sense, uniformly rejected amongst evangelicals, and thus the reason it’s accepted for the politicians, they vote for to do the same.
1
Malk_McJorma Mar 26, 2026 +1
A boss move if I ever saw one.
1
matthieuC Mar 26, 2026 +1
The party of life
1
NickCostanza Mar 26, 2026 +1
Genuinely disgusting these “Christians” would talk this way about someone else. Vile disgusting fascists who care more about taking lives than nurturing them. Helps explains Hegseth’s mindset.
1
PlethoraOfPinatass Mar 26, 2026 +1
Not to mention they live in fantasy land. They'll never be able to impose their beliefs on anyone else
1
StorageIntelligent64 Mar 26, 2026 +1
any pastor who calls for violence and hatred should be automatically expelled from the church
1
DukeStamina Mar 26, 2026 +1
There is nothing Trump or his sycophants can say or do that would turn away the support of the Red Hat Cult. They are dug in too deep. Societal norms do not get in the way of their obsession.
1
kia75 Mar 26, 2026 +1
I would have thought Child-r*** would be the red line that they dare not cross, but the Duggars have shown that they cross that line regularly. Gas prices, wars, rapes, every single thing they accused Hillary, Hunter Biden, or whatever boogeyman they thought up turns out to be perfectly acceptable if Team Trump does it.
1
Chzhead_RN Mar 26, 2026 +1
No. I called that shit the second they started to lag behind on releasing the Epstein information. You have people like Megyn Kelly making excuses for a child rapist and Steve Bannon trying to rehabilitate his image with his dogshit documentary. They’re trying to normalize this shit slowly but surely. Pedocon theory is real.
1
DukeStamina Mar 26, 2026 +1
The truest words Trump ever spoke was when he said he could shoot someone in the middle of 5th Avenue and not lose a single vote. How can we now not believe him?
1
albertsy2 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Horrifying that it's 1 in 3 people over there, is this correct?
1
ScoutsterReturns Mar 26, 2026 +1
Pretty much. I think there's a small fraction of defectors but most will just get quiet but still support the orange traitor.
1
BabyYodaX Mar 26, 2026 +1
Will Talarico win in Texas? I have no idea, but I am crossing my fingers. However, he has them freaking the f*** out. Like they are me when I see a spider in my car, freaking out.
1
Mellow_Toninn Mar 26, 2026 +1
Pretty hilarious that their electoral equivalent of California can get this close under the right circumstances. I’d be wigging out for sure.
1
Question_It_All_3000 Mar 26, 2026 +1
And if he wins the proverbial wall falls and all those “Dems can’t win in Texas” voters will realize their votes do matter and suddenly it’s in play for the presidential election
1
illegal_deagle Mar 26, 2026 +1
We’re tryin
1
rhinestone_indian Mar 26, 2026 +1
That’s quite a visceral analogy. As an arachnophobiac, the scenario you described would have me at panic. I can only hope that’s enough to shake some out of the cult.
1
PlethoraOfPinatass Mar 26, 2026 +1
The sad truth is that Cornyn will squeak by in the primary and squeak by in the general. And keep in mind if James wins, the texas legislature will never certify it. We will see the most brazen defiance of democracy in history
1
kia75 Mar 26, 2026 +1
This is what Talarico said: >“Jesus loves. Christian Nationalism kills," Talarico said in a statement Tuesday. "You may pray for my death, Pastor, but I still love you. I love you more than you could ever hate me.”
1
Arrmadillo Mar 26, 2026 +1
This was Talarico’s response: X - [James Talarico | Mar 24, 2026](https://x.com/jamestalarico/status/2036647988182036730) “Jesus loves. Christian Nationalism kills. You may pray for my death, Pastor, but I still love you. I love you more than you could ever hate me.” The first line calls back to a sermon Talarico delivered two years ago: YouTube - [James Talarico Delivers Sermon Against Christian Nationalism](https://youtu.be/Blph_2RSBno) (18:47) “Jesus liberates. Christian nationalism controls. Jesus saves. Christian nationalism kills. Jesus started a universal movement based on mutual love. Christian nationalism is a sectarian movement based on mutual hate.”
1
CrankyVince2 Mar 26, 2026 +1
>Talarico has been a longtime critic of some parts of the GOP's reliance on Christian nationalism. He has also been criticized for his stance on accepting the transgender community, as well as some of his interpretations of the Bible. F****** Newsweek actually felt the need to both-sides this one.
1
meltdown_popcorn Mar 26, 2026 +1
Well, they do say this when asking for money: >In a polarized era, the center is dismissed as bland. At *Newsweek*, ours is different: The Courageous Center—it's not "both sides," it's sharp, challenging and alive with ideas.
1

Smells like ChatGPT.
1
H4NKSCORP10 Mar 26, 2026 +1
I’m guessing that pastor was outraged by anyone not grieving hard enough after Kirk was murdered. Hypocrisy and religious conservatism go hand in hand.
1
Taurius2 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Interesting. One can stochastically call for the death of someone as long as it's under the context of religion. I'm pretty sure anyone does that here they will get banned. XD
1
MentalDisintegrat1on Mar 26, 2026 +1
I would wager a lot of the right has never read the whole Bible and if Jesus came to America now they would either deport him or shoot him.
1
Specialist_Lock8590 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Yet another "religious", "Pastor", "Christian", "Patriotic", ""American", Political Prostitute! MAGA - Make America (1930's) Germany Again! This is literally where America is going! And, the religious leaders are supporting the 34 times convicted, fraudster, sexual assaulter, rapist, pedophile, 168 school children killer, war criminal, just like the religious leaders in Germany worshipped Hitler!

He's doing so good. He makes Christianity look good in the eyes non-believers compared to how it's been used by the Republican party
1
WashYourCerebellum Mar 26, 2026 +1
r/moscowidaho can tell u all about this ‘pastor’, his plans for this country and how he and his followers are trying to take over and ruin a great small college town.

They don't call 'em 'christian' taliban for no reason. These radical right fundamentalist extremist scum are cut from the same cloth as their Islamic counterparts.
1
DeafGuy Mar 26, 2026 +1
I’m a very non-religious person but grew up religious. This is the type of person that is needed to bridge the divide that they don’t want bridged. He’s awesome and can represent all of America.
1
jkvincent Mar 26, 2026 +1
It not as if the Christian right needed any more exposing as simply an engine for radicalizing naive people into supporting violence and corruption. But if anyone anywhere had any doubt left, then this reaction to Talarico should dispell it forever.
1
mr-mojo-risin21 Mar 26, 2026 +1
They really truly have to take care of this guy. I am so scared for him. It’s not often that a person inspires this much hope on one side, and so much contempt from the other side. Hope his security is doing their job
1
JukeboxpunkOi Mar 26, 2026 +1
I’m not a fan of Talarico, but even this is messed up. I don’t care what context they used these comments in. Some whacko follower of there’s is going to perceive this as a call for action, violence.
1
maytrxx Mar 26, 2026 +1
I love his response!!!! 💜

nickmortensen Mar 26, 2026 +1
I’ve been working on a podcast about Autocratic Despair and we’ve decided to have a weekly segment called “Talarico Talk” because /I’ve started thinking of a future with him as president as an antidote to the cynicism that has nearly devoured this country as we slide further & further toward entrenched Authoritarianism. It also provides a good jumping off point to discuss Christian Nationalism. I worry Talarico will be assassinated & they will say it was payback for Charlie Kirk. Almost feels as thought it is fait accompli.
1
Adventurous_Pay_5827 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Oh, so the pastor was only praying for his metaphorical death and rebirth. That makes it all right then. 🙄
