Japan PM sends offering to war-linked Yasukuni shrine for spring rite
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi sent a ritual offering to Yasukuni shrine in Tokyo on Tuesday as the shrine, viewed by China and South Korea as a symbol of Japan's wartime militarism, started its three-day spring festival.

Yeah, but they know better. There were veterans so embarrassed about war crimes that, during the 1960s, they refused to mention whether they served if asked. Hiroshima survivor Keiji Nakazawa was *extremely* vocal towards the mistreatment of Koreans that had occurred before and during WWII, and spread his message across to children with his Barefoot Gen manga. Then there's [Kiyosawa Kiyoshi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiyoshi_Kiyosawa), who published his diary which recorded the visible poverty, crime, disorder and 'hysterical propaganda' that the imperial government had used to whip people into obedience (he also recorded how the imperial government did f\_ck all with helping survivors of WWII-era air raids. [Fumio Kamei](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fumio_Kamei) spent the 1940s and 1950s making video recordings criticizing the imperial government while also filming testimonies of Chinese/Korean victims. A lot of racists there like to pretend that they're 'just' paying respects to their Imperial past as if it was just something that everybody had done--but they're wilfully ignoring so many vocal people who had publicly criticised the period since the war happened. EDIT: Well, well, well. Looks like I've upset some people. Go ahead and stay mad, it won't change how so many of your countrymen have seen through Emperor Hirohito and his toadies since WWII.

Not surprising, the majority of their politicians including Takaichi are still in denial with Nanjing massacres and other war crimes their ancestors committed during WWII.

Japan really trying to use anime to distact from their war crimes.

This is the dumb, emotional reaction, I guess. In truth, every country's leader does some performative display to honor their war dead. It's your choice to get upset.

Would you have the same reaction if the German Chancellor sent an offering to a church run by ex-Nazis that enshrines people like Hitler or Goering?

That’s a fair point, but Japan shouldn’t perform memorial rites after enshrining even those who didn’t want to be included.

They're realizing exactly how much US security guarantees are worth after watching the US withdraw support from Ukraine, and fail to protect our allies in the gulf from Iran's military.
