Honestly Richard Jenkins should submit himself for supporting as well if HBO won’t. Dude was a goddamn delight in every scene and I never got tired of seeing him learn about a new sex term.

He was definitely the highlight of the show. I was so excited when I saw him show up in episode one

Let me make a note of this: AP LC
134
mojo-jojo-was-framed Apr 15, 2026 +67
The AP was funny. But then him adding LC so much later in the series was hilarious
67
Grantisgrant Apr 15, 2026 +6
We were really hoping he would add a third during the last episode, but the anticipation almost made it funnier
6
da_innernette Apr 15, 2026 +1
Same and then him actually writing out a whole word instead made me cackle

After the pilot I was intrigued enough that I wanted to see other stuff that Steven Conrad had done and tried Patriot. It was amazing. Dark. Hilarious. So well done. It wasn’t a sad show overall, but it was very sad…like DTF. Highly recommend.
43
mblaser Apr 15, 2026 +14
Patriot is one of my top 10 favorite shows of all time and Steven Conrad is the sole reason I checked out DTF in the first place. So glad I did. Hopefully this launches him into being able to do more projects. I still need to check out Perpetual Grace, but it's not streaming anywhere.
14
sinkwiththeship Apr 15, 2026 +3
It's weird that it's not on MGM+, since it was an Epix show.
3
mblaser Apr 15, 2026 +1
I believe it was at one time because I remember thinking "I'm not subscribing to MGM+ for one show" lol But according to Justwatch and Reelgood it's not streaming anywhere currently.
1
sinkwiththeship Apr 15, 2026 +2
Sucks. I never did finish it. Love me some Jimmi Simpson.
2
lanark_1440 Apr 16, 2026 +1
Perpetual Grace was great and got me on the Steven Conrad train. Sad that only about 15 people watched it at the time! Hopefully it'll reappear on streaming somewhere...
1
MtAnal Apr 15, 2026 +6
I just looked up his work and saw he was behind Weatherman with Nic Cage. I loved that weird little movie.
6
tlsrandy Apr 15, 2026 +1
I think I was wanting a little more complexity to the “murder mystery” element but the vibe was unique and the characters so well acted I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. Rock on, friends.
1
Deep-Thought Apr 15, 2026 +1
Check out Perpetual Grace.
1
Scrimgali Apr 15, 2026 +1
Favorite show ever. And so few people know about Patriot. It’s so unique and well done. Conrad is great

Jason Bateman was paid to have Linda Cardellini sit on his face. He's already won. Asking for an award is just greedy.

89
icantfeelmylags Apr 15, 2026 +14
She had all of these quirks on the show that amounted to nothing. No way Jose, can you speak up.
14
CockerSpanielEnjoyer Apr 15, 2026 +103
I feel like “can you speak up?” was a reference to those self-help tapes she listened to while jogging. Probably an “alpha” strategy to dominate or take control of a conversation
103
theweebdweeb Apr 15, 2026 +44
That is in the show. After one of the interviews, the tape talks about "take control of the conversation."
44
Necessary-Couple-535 Apr 15, 2026 +6
It absolutely was.
6
HouseDjango Apr 15, 2026 +33
Made them feel like real people.
33
faders Apr 15, 2026 +41
Why does it need to amount to anything?
41
fjposter22 Apr 15, 2026 +17
These people are addicted to plot driven shows, nothing can just be for entertainment, everything needs to tie into something “greater” to the plot. MCU brain. Twin Peaks would kill this person.
17
Tgs91 Apr 15, 2026 +9
Also it's not "just for entertainment". It's part of the toxic self help tapes she listens to, which ALSO includes sections about identifying and removing the dead weight in her life. Her adherence to annoying and self centered self-help strategies like "can you speak up?" is a primary reason for the audience to suspect her of murder. It's not nothing, it's critical to the show.
9
stallionsRIDEufl Apr 15, 2026 +27
They are a huge part of her character building, what are you talking about? Did you want her to use them as a catch phrase while killing someone like in a marvel movie?
27
RawbM07 Apr 15, 2026 +7
I think everyone was protecting the boy. They were weird, people wouldn’t understand, if the truth got out it was going to be really hard on the kid. That what I attribute her quirks and being deceptive to, etc.
7
fjposter22 Apr 15, 2026 +3
This is your brain on MCU

Harbour needs a nomination as well
198
Janderson2494 Apr 15, 2026 +109
Just finished the show today and completely agree, he had the best performance on the show. I just wanted to give his character a hug. Peter Sarsgaard also did a wonderful job with very little screen time.
109
GrandmaPoses Apr 15, 2026 +14
I didn’t even think about it being Peter Sarsgaard at the time and I’m watching the roller rink scene and thinking, man, this guy is really good I hope he’s in more stuff.

Everyone is weird. They just look normal from the other side of the street.

Any source on this?
1
buttcabbge Apr 15, 2026 +31
I'd assume they're gonna put him up for Best Actor rather than Supporting. It seems like splitting hairs--I honestly suspect Bateman had more screen time--but Harbour was phenomenal so putting him in the main spot makes sense.
31
Ink_Smudger Apr 15, 2026 +9
It also keeps him and Bateman from competing against each other in the same category.
9
Jepordee Apr 15, 2026 +4
Guy love extends beyond the screen
4
sublliminali Apr 15, 2026 +9
I think he should be considered the lead of the show
9
HeartInTheSun9 Apr 15, 2026 +17
He really *perfectly* nails his character in it. There really isn’t a bad performance in it, but he was the standout to me.
17
lexpurplexninja Apr 16, 2026 +2
The way you immediately saw the self loathing, sorrow, and decision flash across his face when he saw Richard out the window. That moment alone deserves an Emmy. 😭😭
2
notches123 Apr 15, 2026 +2
He gives a win worthy performance. I think he'll be competitive if he can manage the nomination.
2
arx3567 Apr 15, 2026 +2
Yeah he was great.
2
markus_heilige Apr 15, 2026 +1
He was the standout for me. Incredible performance.
1
darkeststar Apr 15, 2026 +62
I enjoyed the show quite a bit and liked everyone's performances but Linda Cardellini's character is so understated (by design) that I don't know if I would put her up for an Emmy for that, even if I enjoyed her performance. Bateman is doing some of the best work of his career in the show and is maybe the most quiet and understated while the most vulnerable he has allowed himself to be. David Harbour is doing incredible work in the show too.
62
DonaldKey Apr 15, 2026 +46
I’ve had the biggest crush on Linda Cardellini since freaks and geeks. She has aged so gracefully

Emmy cycle for the current nomination period ends on May 31 so a lot of Emmy friendly shows are coming out or finishing up right now.
7
argument_sketch Apr 15, 2026 +33
how is anyone but Harbour considered for anything? He was clearly the best actor in this whole series
33
connect1994 Apr 15, 2026 +22
Bateman was fantastic but Harbour’s performance was unbelievable
22
Pumpkin-doodle Apr 15, 2026 +1
Bateman did a great job of grossing me out in this show and i don’t find him gross so to me that shows what a great performance it was!
1
thrillhouse83 Apr 15, 2026 +9
He’ll be up for lead and he will win
9
Low-Astronomer-7009 Apr 15, 2026 +3
Agreed. He was the shining star in this. I love cardelini but she was under utilized as was the rest of the cast. David was the only reason this show was worth following.
3
moonorchid84 Apr 15, 2026 +4
I’m really crossing my fingers for Linda Cardinelli.
4
StIdes-and-a-swisher Apr 15, 2026 +12
I’m not sure I liked this show, it hit me on every wrong vibe. I apologize beforehand. But the acting by those two was pretty amazing.
12
Rivent Apr 15, 2026 +6
I loved it, but I can totally see that. It's *so* weird, and so specific, there's no way everyone is going to click with it.
6
Tgs91 Apr 15, 2026 +3
I felt like Tim Robinson wrote an absurdist comedy script, and then a bunch of good dramatic actors played it serious
3
AintKnowShitAboutFuk Apr 15, 2026 +1
I stand with you. I dont get it.
1
akrob907 Apr 15, 2026 +1
I liked it overall, but it was very uneven. The first episode was everything you could want from a new show, great acting and a little intrigue. It never got much better, it just kind of plodded along. Also I can’t remember if it was the third or the fourth episode, but one of them was a real dog, I almost quit the show.
1
ColinPlays Apr 15, 2026 +1
My wife and I liked this show a lot — borderline loved — but there was definitely a stinker episode in there somewhere that made us question continuing.
1
StIdes-and-a-swisher Apr 15, 2026 +1
I’m with you the first episode is why I finished it.
1
United-Cut4023 Apr 15, 2026 +2
Good Show, Good Acting, Bad Policework, Mediocre Ending. Bad Policework = two detectives talking, he suggests something and they go and investigate, finish investigating and she goes oh btw i figured this out earlier. Why are you just telling him now and not earlier!?

I laughed for five straight minutes when Floyd finally said what happened.
8
maxxcoo Apr 15, 2026 +7
I’ll get downvoted with you. I really wanted to like this and I love all the actors. But the story got tedious and the dialogue so repetitive towards the end.
7
GrandMasterBullshark Apr 15, 2026 +3
The repetitive dialogue is a bit of a trademark for the writer and creator, so are the "tedious" fixations like the constant shots of Cardellini in the umpire gear. Definitely not for everyone but it had me "Full on" the whole time.
3
waitthissucks Apr 15, 2026 +4
I feel like this too and I'm surprised most of the comments on the internet have very little criticisms because I agree it was a bit tedious to watch at times. I loved a lot of the moments in the show, mostly the detectives were funny and overall the acting was great, but I feel like something was missing in terms of flow
4
bloodyturtle Apr 15, 2026 +2
Definitely could’ve been 2-4 episodes shorter
2
noddaborg Apr 15, 2026 -3
It’s a slog. So much talent, but it just drags.
-3
Ah_Salmon_Skin_Roll Apr 15, 2026 +1
Can I ask what people think of this show? I want to start either this or Rooster but have heard mixed opinions on both but Linda Cardellini being in this is making me lean more towards DTF.
1
Beelzebabbly Apr 15, 2026 +6
Watch both. Very different though
6
Ah_Salmon_Skin_Roll Apr 15, 2026 +1
I’m definitely going to have to try both just deciding what to watch first.
1
tuttleonia Apr 15, 2026 +3
We watch both, one right after the other. Completely different shows and they're both solid in their own ways.
3
jevverson Apr 15, 2026 +2
Rooster is better.
2
Stingray88 Apr 15, 2026 +3
I thought DTF St Louis was incredible. The tone and mood shifts in such an unexpected way throughout the story. It was significantly funnier and more touching than I realized it would be. Rooster I wouldn’t give as high praise. It’s certainly funny, but most of the characters are either unlikable, unrelatable, or both. It’s definitely made me realize just how much I missed John C McGinley though.
3
Annacot_Steal Apr 15, 2026 +1
If you like Scrubs then you’ll like Rooster. It really picks up its stride in the 2nd episode. As for DTF I was intrigued the first 2 episodes but then it just got weirder and weirder. Maybe it was my expectations that got in the way but I lost interest by episode 4.

1
Professional_Dust377 Apr 16, 2026 +1
This series was a complete waste of time. Bateman worst work. Hancock is better
1
somedaveg Apr 16, 2026 +1
The writing on this show was just phenomenal. Every character had all these quirks, and the cadence and delivery was unique enough that the whole thing felt very fresh, even at a time when we’re inundated with excellent television shows. I have a feeling the whole thing could have totally fallen apart without the work of a stellar cast, so everyone involved deserves some accolades IMO. Just great all-around, and I hope at least some of the actors get nods.
1
ITakeTheWin Apr 15, 2026 -1
I’ll join the downvote party finished it and instead of DTF it was more like WTF
-1
occono Apr 15, 2026 +4
Steven Conrad is just.....beating to his own drum. His last show before this a star studded adult comedy musical made in stop-motion using baby dolls. And Patriot gets posted about on here every so often if you've heard of that....he's not for everyone's taste, that's why if he is he really is.
4
IronMaidenPwnz Apr 15, 2026 +1
I enjoyed this show but the ending was so anticlimactic.
1
ChunkBlazer Apr 15, 2026 +1
I love Linda Cardellini but I feel like she was miscast in this role. Someone like Merritt Weaver would’ve been more believable. Linda was too attractive and her dialogue seemed unnatural to me
1
ColinPlays Apr 15, 2026 +4
You think Merritt Weaver could get Jason Bateman plus a younger fitter David Harbour who could go full on with a regular straight d***? No way Jose.
4
Readgooder Apr 15, 2026
I dont think the ending was handled well. Harbour's character deserved a better ending instead of just watching him drink and die. I wanted to see more of an impact. I wanted to see Carol open the letter for the life insurance in an empty bedroom.
0
Reddit-dit-dit-di-do Apr 15, 2026 +5
Most life insurance policies have clauses that deny payment if the person takes their own life within a certain time frame. After they determined it was a suicide, I highly doubt she gets anything. Pretty sad tbh.
5
occono Apr 15, 2026 +2
Steven confirmed as such, he did a bunch of post finale interviews. She lets go of her reticence and tells Richard what he signed to him in front of the cops because she needs him to know even though it completely shuts down any chance of doubt on a suicide and she loses the insurance payout.
2
the_guy_guy_one Apr 15, 2026
Too bad the small details of the show weren’t worked out. FYI there aren’t any Albertsons grocery stores close to STL. The Pitt got this part right. Both great shows. Don’t get me wrong. But the neighborhood scenes were clearly the Atlanta suburbs.
0
Pretty_Bad_4208 Apr 15, 2026 +2
Yeah it was pretty bad seemed like nobody even researched anything.. It was clearly Atlanta. We don't even have Jamba juice in STL lol. Good show but damn guys put in a little effort.
2
Outrageous-Bet3731 Apr 15, 2026
I started watching an episode. It was really slow and I switched the channel. Don't know if it picks up or not. Might try it again. I really enjoy Jason Bateman
