Need Jason Isaacs to portray Marshal Zhukov again

Well that's me told, I'm off to represent the red army at the buffet.

Out a me way or I'll punch you into a sticky pulp

The_Mellow_Tiger Mar 24, 2026 +6
He was honestly one of the best parts of the movie. Which says a lot as there really were no weak performances.

charonill Mar 24, 2026 +8
"Alright boys, meet your dates for tonight." "I'll take the tall blonde."

OCGamerboy Mar 24, 2026 +5
With a Yorkshire accent

MIBlackburn Mar 24, 2026 +5
He only picked that because he was thinking of who was the most blunt people in the UK and it really works.

DoomguyFemboi Mar 24, 2026 +2
I didn't know it wasn't his accent. Can't believe he does a better Yorkshire than DDL. Although to give him some slack he was next to Sean Bean whose thick Sheffield accent is his defining feature.

I thought Gad disappeared and was presumed dead after that Doorman incident.

AnonymousBanana405 Mar 23, 2026 +42
I'm glad I'm not the only one that had this thought.
42
riegspsych325 Mar 23, 2026 +25
what’s this “doorman incident”?
25
PigPog8 Mar 23, 2026 +53
You’ll have to watch Wonder Man to find out! Edit - Also, it was [just announced today](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/s/OVlopM3lw8) that it’s renewed for a S2! That’s some weird timing.

riegspsych325 Mar 23, 2026 +24
no more, I’ll go in blind. Thank you

My wife and I really enjoyed it!! And the acting was so superb.

If it has the same sardonic humor as The Death of Stalin, I'm in. That movie does dark humor really well, not just "say random offensive thing to get a sympathy laugh".

Jesus Christ, did coco Chanel take a shit on your head?

Such a perfect response lol. Another favorite is, “and the vote passes u…u…uuuuunamimously”

My favorite is “I mean, I’m smiling—but I am really f****** furious!”

I was gonna say Isaacs just munches the scenery every time he's in frame, but honestly pretty much everyone is running at their career best. Great movie, and entertaining too. Supposedly Buscemi "always wanted to play Kruschev", or so I heard in an interview, and I thought to myself, "what a peculiar ambition". Then I thought about it a little bit more, and, well, no, not really. Commissar in WW2, nearly blown up fifty bazillion times in and around Stalingrad, and then makes the decision to back down - political suicide in the USSR - in the face of armageddon. So yeah, you go Steve, you play that Kruschev. And who can forget the [rendition of the Cuban Missile Crisis but told through the art of dance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wl6k_h2drK8).

The Death of Stalin is one of the funniest movies in a long time. Heavily slept on. I dont run into many people in the wild who have seen it.

kirkaracha Mar 23, 2026
It’s a preview of when Trump’s gone.

InnocentTailor Mar 23, 2026 +6
Pretty much. It was gallows humor that related to the chaotic period and setting: Soviet Union during and immediately after Stalin. I know I would never get it, but it would be fun to see the same concept applied to other Soviet rulers. I’m a sucker for Soviet history and the Cold War in general.

One-Internal4240 Mar 24, 2026 +5
The genius of the _DoS_ script is how it took a chunk of actual history - the _broad_ flow of events - and condensed it down in a way that doesn't force you to suspend your disbelief. While maintaining crystal-clear on the actual _rhythm_ of the events (and an inimical very-Russian-feeling sensation of mania bordering on the very edge of control). Don't mistake my meaning here: it's not a documentary. But it preserves the _rhythm_ of the events brilliantly.
5
InnocentTailor Mar 24, 2026 +2
Pretty much. It gets the feel of this paranoid period of time while touching upon historical events.
2
One-Internal4240 Mar 23, 2026 +3
"How can you run and plot at the same time?!"

That fooker thinks he can take on the Red Army? I fooked Germany. I think I can take a flash lump in a fookin' waistcoat.

> Set against the summer of 1942, as war rages in Europe, the period comedy follows the family of a teenage boy who is away fighting at the front. In a bid to secure his safety, they welcome his volatile commanding officer into their rural village home. > The sociopathic army major rapidly forces them to abide by his insane obsessive rules and the family is pushed to absurd and devastating extremes in the name of love.

ThinWhiteDuke00 Mar 23, 2026 +10
Needs Simon Russell Beale.

TaurineDippy Mar 23, 2026 +17
I’ll watch anything with Ruth in it. Fell in love with her when she was on Preacher.
17
CdnfaS Mar 23, 2026 +8
I saw Ruth Nega as Hamlet, and she is a phenom. That was 10 days before the pandemic and I haven’t seen her in anything since. Stoked for this.

Rare-Age-6157 Mar 23, 2026 +6
This is a killer cast for a dark comedy. The Death of Stalin writer gives me a lot of confidence.
6
ItsCowboyHeyHey Mar 23, 2026 +6
I hope Josh Gadd is the ruthless army major.

No more Josh Gad please, I beg of you.
12
multienter Mar 23, 2026 +6
I kinda want Josh Gad as "Hollywood A****** - Josh Gad". Not exactly that in Wonder Man but I bet he could pull it off.
6
ChalupaBatmanMc01 Mar 23, 2026 +2
I loved the "99 year old man" doc about Mel Brooks, the only part I went "Why is Josh Gad here?". I know he has a hand in Spaceballs 2 but he was the worst interviewee.
2
SaneManPritch Mar 23, 2026 +3
He's the f****** worst. Why do people keep casting him.
3
ph0b0sdeim0s Mar 23, 2026 +2
Death of Stalin is f****** chef's kiss. If Issac is involved in this, I'm in
2
BertieDastard Mar 23, 2026 +2
I would, and will, watch absolutely anything with Jason Isaacs in. I'd even watch a month ling video of him watching paint dry and grass grow.
2
Freakjob_003 Mar 24, 2026 +1
Go play Baldur's Gate 3, he's one of the main villains, and absolutely (heh) nails the performance. It's also just an insanely good game.
1
StunGod Mar 23, 2026 +3
Never heard of Josh Gad, but I'll sign up for anything that has Jason Isaacs and Ruth Negga. It's going to rock.
3
Jethro_Jones8 Mar 23, 2026 +2
Olaf in Frozen? Lead in Book of Mormon on Broadway? Never heard of Josh Gad huh?
2
Emergency-Mammoth-88 Mar 23, 2026 +1
Cool

Potential-Evening222 Mar 24, 2026 +1
Jason Isaacs and Josh Gad acting together? One is a specialist in playing villains, the other a comedian.
1
Rough_Climate2067 Mar 24, 2026 +1
Lol how many WWII movies is Jason Isaacs in at this point??
1
PaladinPrime Mar 25, 2026 +1
I'll watch anything with Jason Isaacs. Even The Patriot, and I think that says something.
1
Burgoonius Mar 23, 2026 +1
I’d hate to have to say that womans name in an interview lol

Can’t wait for the mandatory Josh Gad breaking into song

No_Fail_2575 Mar 23, 2026 -6
Ruth Nega?… hard pass. Her “acting” consists of 90% repeatedly tilting her head to the left. That’s it. The extent of her repertoire
-6
BeDeRex Mar 23, 2026 -1
You will be missed.
