When the EU enforced its own laws against Elon Musk, his response wasn’t compliance, it was calling for the EU to be destroyed. Read that again. Every empire, every concentration of power, wants the EU gone. Not because it’s weak, but because it isn’t. Because it sets rules, enforces them, and can’t be pushed around as easily as a single state. That’s why Brexit was celebrated by Steve Bannon and Jeffrey Epstein, on record, in the files. Not for sovereignty, but for what it represented: a return to tribalism. Divide and conquer has always been the strategy. Break the EU into pieces and each country becomes isolated, negotiable, and easy pickings.

I’m actually going to try looking into EU food laws and try finding something close to that in the states, is it wishful thinking? Probably.
65
shiano0815 3 days ago +88
I can sum it up for you in two sentences. In the US, food manufacturers are allowed to put anything into their ‘food’ that isn’t already banned – until a class action lawsuit is brought and the plaintiffs prove that chemical X is responsible for harm Y. In the EU, food manufacturers must prove that their food complies with food safety regulations and poses no health risk to consumers BEFORE the product is placed on the market.

yabushido 3 days ago +30
Another difference is in production environment. For example: chlorine washed chicken. There might be nothing wrong with the meat itself (altho 'might' is still a problem here), but it is faaaar cheaper and easier to wash your product than to keep your production line clean. Plus ofc meat must be procured from certified supplier. Guess what? EU rules are far more stringent than US - procurment, record keeping, processing and sales, the whole chain must be up to standard. That is why is so expensive to enter EU food market.
30
Elizabeth-WildFox886 3 days ago +9
The market is also weird, Ireland is one of the most expensive countries in Europe and Irish grown and processed chicken is so much cheaper than any imported chicken and of much higher quality - we have Chinese, Thai frozen chicken options which are all more expensive than local glenhaven chicken
9
TheRealPitabred 2 days ago +12
Which is as it should be. Laws and regulations should protect the citizens, and ensure their ability to make a living.
12
alexefi 3 days ago +99
There is a reason why EU doesnt allow import of beef and chicken from US.
99
Mourdraug 3 days ago +61
It's not exactly true, the EU does not prohibit import of US beef, there are just proper procedures to ensure that the beef is safe for the EU citizens. The cost of compliance is just larger than most US exporters are willing to pay. That being said you can totally buy beef imported from the US in many places in the EU, usually it's horrendously expensive.
61
fatmithra 3 days ago +11
We used to work with US beef in our restaurant (best beef we had for a long time), suddenly they stopped importing it....because the vacuumseal plastic they used in the States isnt thick enough for EU food standards.
11
Background_Cause_992 3 days ago +6
California and Oregon have some rules that are actually stricter than the US around food. That's probably the closest you'll find. Problem is there's nothing stopping food from other States being brought in, and the federal laws are the Lowest of bars

EU most definitely isn't perfect and there's plenty to complain about but you're right. It's loudest critics who want it outright destroyed are the shittiest political leaders on the planet. Orban is also a proven traitor working for Russia. That he now gets official backing from Trump's America tells you everything.

I feel little, if any, sympathy for her. James Bowman's "There is nothing I won't say, nothing I won't do, no low I won't sink to in order to realize my South African Evangelical Nazi daddy's dream!" shtick was a known quantity before they even met. She knew what he was and elected to marry him \*anyway\* because she thought it would advance her own interests. The only people I feel bad for are their kids because they didn't have a choice in the matter.

An evergreen quote from Sartre: >“Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.“
70
Dracious 3 days ago +9
It is one of those things too where it seems like it would be so easy to argue against the people with these beliefs because logically they are so flawed, but when you actually get the opportunity to try it is hopeless. Not because they are good at debating or arguing or actually have a good point, but because their point changes constantly, often even contradicting themselves. Even if you debunk every point and manage to kind of 'corner' them as they run to the end of their chain of points, they will often just revert back several steps and say 'well I never believed or claimed this anyway, I actually meant this other thing' and try and start a whole other chain. And that is if they don't just reject the concept of debate completely and just start throwing insults, personal attacks or act the victim and leave.

It’s also cute that he believes his presence will help Orban. My understanding is every other party is banding together to oppose Orban because he is hated and I doubt they love trump and would be swayed by Americans coming to interfere. Especially given Americas current behavior. If they do love Trump, I don’t think Vance is really bringing anything. I think we are about to see trump’s administration embarrass themselves backing a loser.

because it's the same political group. A group that comprises Vox in Spain, FPO in Austria, Fico, the Czech prime minister (not the president as you've let me know), Bolsonaro and his family, etc. They present the same political template where they use immigration, create issues via media pushes and then try getting into power, where they try to: - Enrich themselves by plain corruption. - Enrich themselves by cashing in favours for the wealthy. - Selling policy to the wealthy (support for lobbies, Israel, other political members of the group). - Destroy institutions (so the wealthy have more power and corruption is less prosecuted). - Manipulate the stock market with erratic policy to cash in millions. This is happening and it's planned, look how they support each other and the flows of cash.

You don't even need Russia to explain this. The US' express aim according to your official national security strategy, is to interfere with European elections and push it towards the far right. Said strategy all but quotes the 14 words.  Trump and even moreso Vance have been nothing but hostile to the EU no matter what the issue has been. Even if you completely disregard Russia, Orbán is an ally and a trojan horse with a veto on most EU decisions. The US has expressly supported RN in France, AfD in Germany, PiS in Poland and Reform in the UK as well.

This is the weirdest US Government in history. Can you imagine any other US Vice President ever going overseas and on the campaign trail to try to help an autocrat and Russian ally win an election over a pro-EU candidate? Can you imagine any other administration saying that it's no Russia or China that is a threat, it's the EU and other democracies that are? Can you imagine a US President mocking the UK's navy and Prime Minister? Can you imagine another US President trying to help Russia to conquer a European democracy? Has there ever been another time when House Republicans shut down work on major legislation in order to prevent the release of documents that exposed pedophiles? Has any other President that had a spiritual advisor compare him to Jesus at the White House Easter prayers? Has there been any other administration with no real long term plans other than to try to corrupt and turn the United States into a dictatorship?

So, the US (a foreign country) is accusing the EU of interfering with one of it's countries? I thought the point of propaganda was to make something believable.

“As he visits Hungary to interfere” would have been a more accurate ending to that

gaychitect 3 days ago +3
This feels crazy. Is it normal for a sitting vice president to get so involved in another country’s political process that they would literally travel to that country to stump for their preferred candidate? I don’t remember this ever happening in any other administration.

How is he gonna help Orban win an election that's already rigged his favor? Or is he just there to deliver a huge bag of cash, like in a cartoon?

Wouldn't he be better off staying out of it if he wants to help Orban win? He's not exactly anyone's favorite.

Nobody wants to become like the US. If people in Hungary are still voting for this piece of shit after the other piece of shit tries to interfere, people do not deserve better than suffer. Seriously.
