Is it just my lack of religion that makes this comically insane to me? Or is this just conventionally insane?

It's not Catholic. After that, I got nuthin

Seventh day Adventist (former) my time to shine. My mom also believes this. Also ghosts, vampires, Bigfoot and really anything supernatural including miracles by non Adventist Christians and non Christians. Basically if SDA Jesus didn't do it and you can't explain it so a brain damaged child can understand, it was demons

Cousin religion ex-Jehovah’s Witnesses here, that was also our beliefs too lol. I was never able to watch or read anything magic/supernatural related growing up for that reason, as it was considered demonic. Even superhero movies were off the table lmao

One of my brother's friends bought a copy of Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge (an excellent point-and-click adventure game from the 90s). His mother threw the game in the bin as soon as she saw the box art, which featured a voodoo doll, specifically because voodoo is evil, and hers was a Christian household.

Far out! There’d’ve been a murder in my house if my mom had tried to do that shit. She had respect for us and allowed us to be kids. I miss her so

Damn but your dad is JD Vance?!

Back when the first Batman movie released (Keaton) in theaters my JW parents went to see it, obviously me and brother are not allowed. They wouldn't tell us what they did, only kept saying "we went to Gothem City" and made it a joke. We were so out of touch with things like pop culture, brother and I had no idea what they were talking about. We never got to read Batman comics or cartoons or anything like that. Saturday morning was for pioneering.

Are you alright now? I grew up watching horror movies to stay awake while babysitting, and I think I’m still functioning in my twilight years? I hope you too

As a teen, I attended an evangelical church that believed the same thing. They were nuts. I got sucked in because they had one of those youth groups that played laser tag and raced go karts and stuff. I got put through an exorcism at summer camp because they found out that I had played Dungeons and Dragons. Noped out after that. So anyways, JD Vance has less sense than I did as a 13 year old girl. Weirdly, those evangelicals believed that Seventh Day Adventists were demons. It's demons all the way down. Oh! They also told a girl she wasn't allowed to cry when her dog died because dogs don't have souls so they don't go to heaven and Jesus doesn't want you to mourn them. Far right American "Christianity" is pants-on-head crazy. I used to think it was ridiculous, but now these people are in charge. They are stupid and they hate everyone who isn't them. It's terrifying.

Ah the classic cool Christian bait and switch. Come for the horse riding stay for the anointing and lectures over arbitrary infractions. Welcome to my world where my childhood trauma has become the presidents number 1, 2, and 3. Meanwhile the Pres is a moron greenlighting everything for a photo op

I don't think y'all persecuted the Puritans hard enough.
1
sprunghuntR3Dux Mar 28, 2026 +1
The puritans were pretty good at persecuting each other. In the early days of the USA people were constantly being banished from the original Massachusetts Colony. Because of various disagreements in religious doctrine.
1
dotknott Mar 28, 2026 +1
We got a whole Rhode Island out of folks being banished from Massachusetts!

Former Southern Baptist here and I feel left out! lol I was just telling someone about this the other day! I distinctly remember the pastor at our church giving a sermon about this 15 years ago.
1
Initial_Chemist_7616 Mar 28, 2026 +1
I feel left out… the Catholic Church employs jesuits with PhDs that believe silly things like ‘science explains gods plan for the universe’… Your guys church experience seems like so much more fun.
1
Cavane42 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Sure, but Roman Catholics also do shit like praying to a piece of some bone that they keep around the house.
1
Initial_Chemist_7616 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Because Catholics feel that true belief in said bone imbues it with holy purpose. Which more or less seems like the definition of faith to me.
1
ApolloX-2 Mar 28, 2026 +1
I'm not Christian let alone Catholic but I feel so bad for American Catholics having this guy run around claim their faith. Imagine being chastised by the actual pope and still not changing your ways.

Neither is JD Vance regardless what his dumb ass says.
1
Base841 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Last I heard, the RCC would love to quiz an alien to see if Original Sin extends to them or if that's a hunan-only malady. They already believe that OS doesn't include animals. The 1997 film "Contact" had religious leaders having a round table discussion on the news. The series "Evil" also considers this in S02E09. Ever see the comic where someone asks an alien if they know Jesus and the alien replies, "yeah, great guy, visits every year. Why, what happened when he visited you?" (You can read one version in r/Jokes, that starts, "Aliens visit Earth."
1
PolicyWonka Mar 28, 2026 +1
There are reportedly quite a few higher ups within the US military who share similar sentiments. I suspect it’s probably driven by the fact that aliens would potentially complicate the whole origin story and things. Easier to claim that aliens are demons intending to lead people astray or whatever.
1
Niznack Mar 28, 2026 +1
Yup that's it. My mom believes this. if aliens are real then they are perfect and sinless and living in God's light and can't visit earth. If aliens have actual civilization then that contradicts the story that God and the devil are using earth for a once in the cosmos chess match. So Satan makes people believe aliens are real so they think the universe isn't divinely controlled.
1
peipei222 Mar 28, 2026 +1
>that God and the devil are using earth for a once in the cosmos chess match. If god is supposed to be all-knowing, would he not know the outcome already? Why even bother making everyone go through all this?
1
Niznack Mar 28, 2026 +1
The explanation I got is god feels the need to persuade the rest of his creation that sin is bad. Apparently they are very hard to persuade because 6000 years of war, genocide, r***, and Nickelback and they have almost made up their mind. Once they get the message and every human picks a side, Jesus comes.
1
hatecirclejerks Mar 28, 2026 +1

1

Wasnt there a freaking movie where the plot line is that an alien refuses to reveal itself but performs heavenly miracles and its revealed that the alien looks exactly like how we portray the devil and demons?

It's a concept I've seen used on an occasion, I can't recall your example but the classic scifi series Babylon 5 has one of the two Sufficiently Advanced precursor alien species, the Vorlons, eventually reveal that they always meet up with the "lesser" species in encounter suits because they've secretly imprinted themselves as holy beings in the psyche of all of them in order to be able to more easily manipulate them, so humans for example mentally perceive their true energy being forms as angels. (Not that they are very angelic, even if they are technically nicer than their counterpart the Shadows who promote constant subterfuge and violent conflict in order to repeatedly weed out the "weaker" species, the Vorlons are in turn well-intentioned extremists whose idea of order and societal development promotes rigid ritualistic thinking, blind faith, and theocratic societies)

1
Feligris Mar 28, 2026 +1
I would imagine it goes like this, because if your worldview strictly relies on the Biblical/Abrahamic idea of there being one God with with Earth as the one creation and humanity on Earth as God's own image, it *really* doesn't leave any room for intelligent extraterrestial life or extraterrestial life in general, or even the scientific concepts of space and the universe since the more devoutly religious people of all of the Abrahamic faiths/sects fiercely rail against those as well. But it's the inevitable outcome when few of the world's most populous religions are based on holy books which insist on making extremely confidently incorrect or nebulous statements about the nature of reality and world events, because they're based on the extremely limited human understanding of the world at the time but unlike scientific knowledge or history writing, due to being considered holy scripture they are kept eternally unchanging no matter how incorrect they end up being and defended almost literally to the death by many.

MD90__ Mar 28, 2026 +1
If you put on your tin foil hat and go down the rabbit hole of conspiracy and paranormal, you'll see some wild things. There were some folks who claimed that invoking the name of Jesus during an alien abduction event caused it all to stop suddenly. Really depends on your beliefs and such on how to interpret these situations folks encountered.
1
Top-Difficulty5202 Mar 28, 2026 +1
It all seems so absurdly funny when you lack religion. It is also very, very insane shit. It's terrifying these people are in charge.

What, you mean that having over half of humanity trace their origin story to the tale of a guy being rewarded for obeying a voice in his head telling him to stab and burn his own kid is a *bad* idea? For real — in that story Abraham finds favor with God not because he *doesn’t* sacrifice his son, but because he proved he was going to.
1
babybirdingURgrandma Mar 28, 2026 +1
This is something my evangelical relatives think, if there are aliens they're totally demons.  They just...know.

Raised by evangelicals. This type of behavior is super common.
1
niceandsane Mar 28, 2026 +1
¿Por que no los dos? Seriously, it's insane all by itself. Lack of religion tends to go hand-in-hand with a good ability to detect insanity. As a mild example, "There's this talking snake, see? And it convinces a woman to eat an apple... (and then it gets weirder)" is obviously insane. Religion tends to dull one's insanity detector.

I have been watching a bunch of insanely c**** (and shit in the not fun way) sci fi films on Tubi and quite a few of them intertwine aliens and christianity. They're not all particularly explicit on the connection, but it really feels like modern christianity holds all this conspiracy theory shit inside itself now. None of them appear to read the bible, so all the additional media may as well be considered theological.

JD Vance shows many of the classic signs of the level of demonic possession just below full possession (vomiting pea soup, head doing 360s),called "diabolical obsession" where the demon causes obsessive thoughts, irrational beliefs, evil fantasies, and random fits of rage, among other things. So the medieval Catholic theologian Vance so loves would agree with you: Vance has caught a demon.
1
Base841 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Sad to say, that's just a standard Evangelical/Pentacostal moderately fringe theory. You won't find many pastors of that ilk who will preach a sermon on the demonic aliens, but if you ask them most will admit they believe it's likely.

American Fundamentalist Nationalist Christianity is a f****** trip. Y’all got a secret rapture event, the earth being flat, abortion becoming a thing because of the end of segregation (seriously read into this one, spoiler the Souther Baptist Church convention wrote in defense of Roe v Wade when it passed), and now the plot of Doom being a real thing. Although to be fair many people on the right believe that film and games is just the secret government allowing some of the truth to come out. Also it’s far more likely that humanity is the f****** demons, in the Bible in the book of Job for example God calls a meeting with representatives which is implied to be from other worlds and Satan shows up for it. Satan is asked where and who he represent, and he basically says Earth. So if Satan is representing Earth, and he’s in charge of demons then I guess humans are demons. But again, they know nothing on their lore.

Pure pandering. He knows that the base has a raging semi for demonic shit. It's the perfect justification for all the evil they want to inflict on their fellow humans. Easy to start committing atrocities when you've been primed that your foes aren't people. Probisec, Vance, all these people- there's no amount of suffering they aren't willing to subject others too if it means one more drop of power.

1
OneRFeris Mar 28, 2026 +1
I'm agnostic. But I didn't use to be. When I believed, I had to deal with what I thought were demons. Now I'm unsure whether they were just weird imagined things. I've not had another chance to face off against one now that I'm suspicious and analytical of everything. But an argument could be made that: if you don't believe in God or demons, then the demons don't need to bother with you because they already "won" with regards to your soul.

he even made himself look like a demon. All of MAGA alters themselves to look demonic.

For the love of f*** can we please get some god damned adults in Positions of power.
1

Unfortunately I do think we have some God damned people in Positions of Power
1
Eddfan36 Mar 28, 2026 +1
This guy's showing he's just as big of a screw loose as Trump. Maybe interview some family of Trump's and find out.
1
nonamenolastname Mar 28, 2026 +1
Well, his sugar daddy Peter Thiel taught him well.
1
AdProud3685 Mar 28, 2026 +1
So we now know that aliens don’t like pedophiles.
1
Tilted_Muffler Mar 28, 2026 +1
Dude finally learned what Signs was actually about. What a moron.
1
ClassyWizardCheese Mar 28, 2026 +1
Of course he does. If there is alien life it means that his entire belief system is incorrect. People like him think they have it all figured out.
1
Jstrangways Mar 28, 2026 +1
Aliens are demons. Couches are sexual partners. Rapist is President. Pope is not head of Catholic Church, Vance is.
1
spiderman897 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Ahhh so he’s another idiot
1
cassy_supernova Mar 28, 2026 +1
Whatever makes sense.

People are actually assholes who believe in nonsense.
1
SadLeek9950 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Didn't know demons needed spaceships....
1

Here we go 🙄

Funny I think Republicans are demons.
1
mystery_fight Mar 28, 2026 +1
This type of shit used to be National Enquirer headlines quoting an impoverished widow in rural Nebraska, and it would sell bc it was fun fake insanity.
1
Hayes4prez Mar 28, 2026 +1
Aliens to distract from Iran which is a distraction from Trump raping children.
1
SpiritualAd8998 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Lay off the pipe JD.
1
Upstairs_Ad5443 Mar 28, 2026 +1
No JD it's just the radical right wing and MAGA that are demons.
1
steveschoenberg Mar 28, 2026 +1
And that is not a disqualification for high office?
1
anemic_royaltea Mar 28, 2026 +1
I know alien life is generally considered a very rare or very distant possibility by all estimations but if you find demons more plausible I think that’s a problem.
1
kissja74 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Is there any mentally stable person in US politics?
1
mwzdng Mar 28, 2026 +1
To a virtue signaling Christian grifter, *everything* is a demon.
1
SaddamMustaine Mar 28, 2026 +1
All through human history, we go “Welp, must be demons” when we don’t understand something. I’m sure cavemen thought lightning was “demons” for awhile. It’s the same thing as Greeks having a god for everything. “Must be a hot demigod babe controlling it”. Why the F would demons need tech and spaceships? All this is is more lunacy thrown at their unintelligent, shitbag voter base who are on their last leg (most quite literally bc of terrible health) and are about to be completely left in history’s rearview.
1
trisul-108 Mar 28, 2026 +1
>“I’m obsessed with this… I’ve got three years of the very tippy top of the classification, I’m gonna get to the bottom of it,” This is the only interesting part of that article. He does not expect to be the next president.
1
No_Air8719 Mar 28, 2026 +1
God help intelligent extraterrestrial explorers if they ever touch down anywhere in Trumps America the whole of the cabinet seems to be made up of overt nutjobs who would slaughter them on site in the name of the one true God.
1
Cael_NaMaor Mar 28, 2026 +1
Maybe they are... maybe that's where all the demon lore comes from. Aliens visited, helped build the damn pyramids, & all they got for thanks was literal demonization... Not the craziest thing I've heard. Now, about those Epstein files?
1
kinetik Mar 28, 2026 +1
Vance is just pandering to nationalist Christians to try and pump up his base because he is so f****** unpopular he has no other options. This is just another ridiculous attempt at sucking up to middle America and try to warp Christian rhetoric to get snake handlers believing that we are under attack by sky demons. Give me a goddamn break.
1
Tony2030 Mar 28, 2026 +1
I think that headline is wrong. I think it should be, “JD Vance reveals he is a dumbshit.”
1
QuiGonColdGin Mar 28, 2026 +1
I feel so bad for The Onion these days.
1
Everythings_Fucked Mar 28, 2026 +1
This is your brain on Christianity.
1
CaptainXakari Mar 28, 2026 +1
Oh, did JD read Childhood’s End by Arthur C. Clarke? Because that was the main twist of that 1953 novel.
1
Mind_Killer Mar 28, 2026 +1
Pretty midwestern Christian belief IMO. My dad used to say because Jesus only came to redeem humanity, if aliens did exist they would either have to be perfect in the eyes of God (angels) or utterly corrupt and completely irredeemable (demons).
1
TimeProfessional7120 Mar 28, 2026 +1
That's news to me! I'm a seventh generation Ohioan (now living elsewhere) and grew up in the next county north from Vance. I have never heard anything like this from anyone in my family, social circle, or church.
1
illi_mental Mar 28, 2026 +1
He’s just speaking to the brain dead base. He’s an educated sociopath that goes where the grifty wind takes him

everlastingwaffles Mar 28, 2026 +1
There is a very high chance that this man will become president within the next few years. I doubt he can win an election after all the baggage Trump will strap to him, but Trump is old, stressed, and fat as shit.
1
Hungry_Shake6943 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Okay Lovecraft time to leave the furniture alone for a while.

I’m offended on behalf of the nonexistent visiting aliens.
1

Why does he sound like that one dude in the D&D group that would just say weird shit all the time.
1

Dude played way too much Doom.
1
ObservationMonger Mar 28, 2026 +1
The hillbilly dumb ass has reasserted itself.
1
mypntsonfire Mar 28, 2026 +1
All these dumb motherfuckers latched on to some sort of media they absorbed before their brains were mature enough to understand it. Looks like JD read Childhood's End at too young an age
1
StrongAroma Mar 28, 2026 +1
What a dumbass
1
comradesorrow Mar 28, 2026 +1
That would be the plot for Doom.
1
Reasonable-Cover-785 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Given how fucked off humans are I would be more likely to believe in demons/aliens than not. Remember our human body/senses can only perceive a very small fraction of what's around us. Who's to say there aren't "layers" to reality and we just have no clue some alien/demons hanging out in the same room with us, but just on a different layer of reality? Not coming from religion. More philosophy and questioning the foundation of our reality. To think only what you see/hear/feel exists is pretty dumb considering quantum mechanics proving there's still so much we have no idea about.
1
melodypowers Mar 28, 2026 +1
How do you define demon?
1
flyinhk Mar 28, 2026 +1
Oh dear, did he read Arthur C Clarkes "Childhoods End" and take it literally? "The most famous story featuring aliens that look like demons is Arthur C. Clarke's 1953 novel Childhood's End. The aliens, known as Overlords, land on Earth to guide humanity, appearing as red-skinned, winged beings with horns and barbed tails—matching the traditional biblical image of Satan. "

1
SciLib0815 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Calm down, Hanse Castillo.
1
Ignavis Mar 28, 2026 +1
To religious people, this is a mundane take. You can talk to religious people about all sorts of normal things, but crack open the book of Revelations, and suddenly China is a dragon that will go to war against Israel and Jesus 2 and we have to kill enough muslims to fill Armageddon with a river of blood... super cool that that country has veto power in the UN. This will work out well for us, I'm certain of it.
1
carlboykin Mar 28, 2026 +1
Dude puts on a pound of makeup to come on tv and tell me billionaires making more money helps me somehow and demons masquerading as aliens is why people in this country struggle to survive
1
Cerblu Mar 28, 2026 +1
Huh, funny… I feel the same way about old, white-haired Republican men, trying to ruin the country piece by piece.
1
ProfessorZhu Mar 28, 2026 +1
Pope, come get ya boy.
1

The pillow talk with Thiel must be wearing off on him.
1

I thoroughly believe what we call demons were just aliens.
1
Unhappy-Poetry-7867 Mar 28, 2026 +1
I am just starting to realise that Vance probably has some mental illness going on. He totally switched sides and is insufferable and unhinged. Maybe he got hid to the head or something else happened.
