Americans have furiously reacted to a ton of stuff over the last year, but our representatives choose to not reflect our anger.

Just a few billion more to private insurance companies, just a few more bro

Still waiting for the "trickle down" part to kick in
12
Only1Nemesis Apr 2, 2026 +3
Yeah, Reagan. When's that gonna start? Anytime during your... oh. Wait.
3
notmyworkaccount5 Apr 2, 2026 +17
I think it's because our "furious reactions" can be easily ignored by the people who need to see them. These huge protests should be taking place outside mike johnson's house, john thune's house, john roberts house. These ghouls should not be able to have a moments peace, they should not be able to hide away from the people they are harming.

Fartina69 Apr 2, 2026 +5
I feel like I am being taxed without representation in my government. The people we "elect" represent donors and their own business interests, not me. Spirit of 76, anyone?
5
SnowDucks1985 Apr 2, 2026 +11
Yep and it’s because almost all of them are paid off by donors or corporations. Representatives are just walking ventriloquist dummies at this point. We have to figure out whose controlling each puppet, one by one
11
jemappellejimbo Apr 2, 2026 +3
They haven't furiously reacted once. they have worn costumes and made funny signs on a weekend walk in the park. They have remained consumers and obedient pay pigs. Edit: grammar.
3
ProgrammerOk1400 Apr 2, 2026 +5
Looking at you, Jeffries. Spineless coward
5
FantasticJacket7 Apr 2, 2026
Turns out that you actually have to vote to give them the power to do something if you actually want them to do something. Crazy, I know.

SwissChzMcGeez Apr 2, 2026 +7
"I'm willing to do anything except show up to vote!"
7
Sad-Week6040 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Furiously? Lmao gimme a break
1
ChefOk4602 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Didn’t a shutdown not happen for your health care that also affected a lot of people’s snap benefits? And the resulted in getting nothing of substance correct?

Evilfart123 Apr 2, 2026 -1
Turns out the minority party in a trifecta doesn't have power?

Maybe a couple more no kings rallies will help. /s

"And I'm not gonna stand around and let it happen!" *Takes a seat*

Moccus Apr 2, 2026 +4
Jeffries can't do anything to stop it if that's what Republicans want.
4
Canadiangoosedem0n Apr 2, 2026 +2
People really don't understand how little a minority party can do in congress, esp given the maga zealots on the majority side.
2
MilkWeedSeeds Apr 2, 2026 +7
And when they are also neoliberals hellbent on destroying public spending
7
GogetaSama420 Apr 2, 2026
Ah yes, mask off tankies have taken over this sub
0
SilverAgedSentiel Apr 2, 2026 +7
Whenever the GOP is in the minority they're active as hell, they beat shit out of Biden. Even Obama's presidency was pot marked with GOP major victories in concessions to get ACA passed and forced him to continue the Bush tax cuts, which he campaigned against.
7
bootlegvader Apr 2, 2026 +1
The Democrats got vastly more done between 2009-10 and 2021-22 than the Republicans have gotten done.
1
Canadiangoosedem0n Apr 2, 2026 -1
I guess I should have mentioned minority parties have little power when they are actually concerned about making things better for their constituents. Republicans don't care about anybody but their rich donors so allowing people to suffer means nothing to them.
-1
SilverAgedSentiel Apr 2, 2026 +5
Show me the things the DNC using their power when they are in the majority? I know what MAGA believes and they whip their base hard enough to like it. What does the DNC believe in, what is it they will actually fight for?
5
Gradstudentiquette69 Apr 2, 2026
They have some power but dems refuse to use it and most of the time when they do they cave.
0
JessieJ577 Apr 2, 2026 +8
They’ve had opportunities but have fumbled them this past year.
8
GogetaSama420 Apr 2, 2026 +2
Such as???
2
Ven18 Apr 2, 2026 +3
The problem is when the Republicans have been the minority party in recent years they somehow stop every single Democrat policy from advancing. People are really starting to wonder why there were so many exceptions see from Democrats why Biden couldn’t pass XYZ with full control of government while the GOP can rubber stamp just about anything it seems. Dems have shown over the past 30 years they simply do not wield power as effectively as Republicans and Republicans can somehow have power while being a minority. This is why people are mad at Democrats in government.
3
Canadiangoosedem0n Apr 2, 2026 +1
Jesus Christ Dems never had full control of the government when Biden was in power.  To pass any non reconciliation bills or judge confirmations in the Senate you need 60 votes to beat the filibuster. At most Dems had 50 seats in Senate including two independent senators  who caucused with the Dems and two conservative Democratic senators in Manchin and Sinema. Its why Kamala has the record for a VP breaking the most ties in the Senate. Biden got a shitload done with the thinnest of margins and it is a testament to his leadership that we managed to pass so many laws.
1
Ven18 Apr 2, 2026 +3
So by this very same logic you cannot say the GOP has full control right now because they don’t have 60 senate votes. Also you only need a simple majority for judicial nominations.
3
bootlegvader Apr 2, 2026 +1
What has the Republican Senate actually passed?
1
M00nch1ld3 Apr 3, 2026 +1
They passed the "Big Beautiful Bill" - the only \*real\* thing they had to pass...
1
Canadiangoosedem0n Apr 2, 2026 +1
I mean they have more than 50 votes in the Senate who are all Republican which is more control than what the Dems had. But let's call it wash and assume that the level of opportunity to pass laws is the same, so no Republicans don't have full control of the legislative branch. What you're conveniently not acknowledging though is how Republicans control the judicial and most crucially the Supreme Court. With the amount of power given to Trump by our judicial branch you can say the Republicans control the totality of the government in a manner never before seen. Edit - and I said judge confirmations don't need to get past the filibuster, i just admittedly worded it awkwardly.
1
Gradstudentiquette69 Apr 2, 2026 +3
You've never seen Mitch McConnell at work, have you?
3
Canadiangoosedem0n Apr 2, 2026
It's very easy to obstruct when society has said your party has no obligation to it's citizens or to the constitution. If you actually give a f*** about your constituents you can't be like Mitch McConnell. I live in Kentucky and Mitch McConnell has not done a damn thing to help the residents here so he's a poor example for the Dems to emulate.
0
Gradstudentiquette69 Apr 2, 2026 +1
He's the perfect example for dems to emulate. The GOP always calls the shots, even in the minority. Right now they have control of the entire government so Dems should obstruct on every single damn thing and blame the republicans for nothing getting done. It doesn't matter if it hurts people because the republicans are going to do that anyway, so when you cave to republican pressure people get hurt anyway and the dems look weak. At least if dems obstruct the voters will see that they are fighting for them. As it stands now, the dems aren't resisting and the voters know that. They should act just like Mitch.

I call bullshit. Americans ARE having their healthcare cut to pay for Iran war. It's happening.
19
EffectiveTea9983 Apr 2, 2026 +18
I'd love if Jeffries could react in *any* way.
18
Simmery Apr 2, 2026 +4
Could start with support for universal healthcare, even if it's unrealistic for us to accomplish. Only 70 other countries have managed to figure it out.
4
Shido_Ohtori Apr 2, 2026 +5
There's an entire political *ideology* dedicated to denying health care to the majority of people -- especially those they consider socially inferior -- while promoting funds for organizations that enforce authority via violence. [Conservatism](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/conservatism): >a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, **stressing the importance of established hierarchies and institutions** (such as religion, the family, and **class structure**), and preferring gradual development to abrupt change >specifically **:** such a philosophy calling for \[...\] **a strong national defense**, and for **individual financial responsibility for personal needs** (such as retirement income and **health care coverage**) If people want health care and less violence, they should consider promoting and voting for the *opposing ideology*. [Progressivism](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/progressivism): >a political philosophy and social reform movement focused on **advancing the public good through government action** and often **calling for government to be used to meet popular social, political, economic, and environmental needs** and demands and to **advance rights and protections for marginalized groups**
5
WillfulIgnorance8647 Apr 2, 2026 +19
Bullshit. About 30% would furiously react.... on social media. While still blaming the Democrats and finding excuses not to act. Another 30% would claim this is totally fine because it only affects "illegals and welfare queens in blue cities" while cashing in their food stamps and taking out a 2nd mortgage on their trailer to buy chinese-made "America First" merchandise. All the while the rest of the population will continue to drift along in a fog of their own ignorance and complacency, heads lodged firmly in their lower intestines, reassuring themselves with vapid platitudes about "not being political" and how "it doesn't matter" because "both sides are the same anyway".
19
Only1Nemesis Apr 2, 2026 +9
100%. Isn't it weird having front-row seats to the rapid decline of the USA? I mean, we've been in decline and the data exist to see if someone has desire to do some digging. But ole Donnie has the finger on the acceleration button. It makes you wonder exactly what MAGA even means. His whole schtick was "America First" and bringing in a golden age, but so far all I've seen are tax cuts for the rich, DOGE decimating social programs, health assurances ripped away, and a war with Iran. Well, that and Venezuelan oil being sold and proceeds going into Trump's offshore account. Oh, also immigration and everything going on with that. Anyone, and I mean anyone, seeing all of what he's been doing and still being a staunch defender and supporter is a f****** vile human being. And that's not even touching anything Epstein related.
9
SharMarali Apr 2, 2026 +4
MAGA doesn’t mean anything. It never did. He was always a mafia boss trying to make money for himself and his rich pals. MAGA is just the lie they hid behind to gain the necessary power.
4
Only1Nemesis Apr 2, 2026 +3
Rhetorical question, really. But it's surprising how many bought into it. And still do.
3
WillfulIgnorance8647 Apr 2, 2026 +1
France would have burned the entire country to the ground several times over if their government had done even 1/8th of the shit the US has. If only Ben Franklin had the foresight to amend his statement to "A Republic, if you deserve it." But don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got till it's gone.
1
Only1Nemesis Apr 2, 2026
Won't happen though. Too many apathetic people, or those who support it all. Sure, there's... resistance, but it's feeble. These No Kings protests don't bother Trump. And, sure, there's a "general strike" supposedly happening on April 5th, a Sunday. A f****** Sunday. Like, what does that do? A Sunday? It proves one big thing: people simply cannot afford to do better. I'm not saying NOT to protest, but it would require a major portion of the people refusing to work like a week straight for there to be a response. And I suspect, that given this regime's track record, it wouldn't be a good one. I don't see millions of people refusing to work for a week straight. Way, way too much to lose. Only when everything has been lost, will people react. But again, I don't think it'll be a "day of reckoning", but instead just a slow and steady decay as people cling to what they can. Maybe I'm just a cynic. Time will tell.
0
damnthistrafficjam Apr 2, 2026
Yeah, and Sunday is Easter. Do people usually go shopping and stuff then? Cause usually our family is at home together.
0
Only1Nemesis Apr 2, 2026 +1
Oh, wow. I completely glossed over this fact. Forgetting that Sunday is Easter, of all things. So.. to sum it up... a general strike. On Easter Sunday. How... pointless. Look, I don't pretend to have all the answers here, or that people shouldn't protest, but come on. No one organizing this looked and thought "Hmm. Easter Sunday. Maybe there's a more impactful day than this?".
1
WillfulIgnorance8647 Apr 2, 2026
I'm tempted to reply "See: Frog, Boiling" except frogs aren't actually that stupid. They'll jump out when the water becomes uncomfortable. Americans, however....

MrSlaveRules Apr 2, 2026 +3
Yes we will….but Jeffries and Schumer will side with the gop …f’n yes men
3

He needs to seriously f*** off
3
Voderama Apr 2, 2026 +3
Chuck Schumer is gonna write a letter
3
Syrairc Apr 2, 2026 +3
Americans would, but would ask the AIPAC-funded Democrats? Nope
3
5cactiplz Apr 2, 2026 +3
The thing is we need Jeffries to furiously react on our behalf, which we have yet to see.
3
MissionCreeper Apr 2, 2026 +5
"I hope they do, at least, because my programming renders me incapable of furiously reacting to anything"
5
Cold-Cell2820 Apr 2, 2026 +7
AIPAC Shakur will do anything but use the powers of his office to resist Trump's overreach
7
Creative-Package6213 Apr 2, 2026 +5
Doubtful...Look at how we've acted so far. People are no where near as pissed off as they should be right now.
5
Silent-Storms Apr 2, 2026 +4
Just wait until they realize the gas prices aren't a blip, but a trend. All those pickup truck enjoyers will be melting down to the earths core in a month.
4
inksmudgedhands Apr 2, 2026 +5
Good. I hate those things. I can see if you needed a truck for practical reasons. Like you have a construction job and you need to haul things. In that case, fine. But most people these days don't need one. You just want one because you want to be intimidating on the road. You love towering over everyone like you are a king or queen and everyone else is a simple peon. To those people I say, enjoy your wallet draining.
5
SilverAgedSentiel Apr 2, 2026 +7
Americans? How bout YOU AND YOUR DNC, Politics is a power sharing agreement and I never see you all do anything. You didn't show up for No Kings 1,2, or 3. You didn't grab Schumer whoop him for negotiating an end to the first shut down so that Trump could take the W there. You just watched as Trump bombed iran and stuck us in this mess, Where as if the GOP reversed rolls they'd shut down everything and blocked every funding bill until they got their way.
7
Sminahin Apr 2, 2026 +10
I also reacted furiously when my family was dying in the hospital desperate for surgery funds after insurance declared lifesaving surgery "not medically necessary", and Jeffries's office wouldn't even call us back to help. He was super tunnel visioned on murdering brown children in Gaza and local South Brooklyn families were a distant, distant priority after that. F*** Jeffries too.
10
turquoise_amethyst Apr 2, 2026 +2
Jeffries doesn’t care about the American public. He only cares what the Super PACs and big donors want. His anger is performative. The big donors want war in Iran.  He’ll pretend to make a fuss and back down at the last minute because that’s what they want.
2
nobadhotdog Apr 2, 2026 +2
No the wouldn’t. At this point I believe the rich could invent some bullshit computer that they constantly say will take everyone’s jobs and everyone will starve and no one will life a muscle to protest it.
2
lions_reed_lions Apr 2, 2026 +2
You said that about the Epstein Files, you said that about gas prices, you said that about grocery prices, you said that about the police gunning down innocent people. Cutting healthcare? I think most Americans will just bend over and take it.
2
ScuzzyUltrawide Apr 2, 2026 +2
this fn guy omg.. oh is that what I'm going to do? I'm going to react furiously? Good thing I'm in congress.. oh wait
2
R1ckMartel Apr 2, 2026 +2
A plurality would happily gas their own children to keep fealty to right wing talking points.
2
bigbucksnowhamies Apr 2, 2026 +2
The public would. However, the question is Hakeem: will you and the other democrats react furiously?!
2
recentgrooves Apr 2, 2026 +2
What would you do Hakeem?
2
Le_Ran Apr 2, 2026 +2
I thought there was a spare trillion dollars somewhere to increase the budget of the military, as per Trump himself ? Make it make sense.
2
Few-Acadia-5593 Apr 2, 2026 +2
Like they did for anything so far?
2
thirdcoasting Apr 2, 2026 +2
This man has done nothing to slow down the Republican agenda.
2
MrTestiggles Apr 2, 2026 +2
Hakeem Jeffries? What’s he gonna do? Write a strongly worded letter?
2
cchheez Apr 2, 2026 +2
You telling me we pay $890,000,000,000 this year just to have it and need to pay more just to use it?
2
Particular-County277 Apr 2, 2026 +2
Americans will react with utter fury. But not you though?
2
ElfegoBaca Apr 3, 2026 +2
Americans had their healthcare cut to pay for billionaire tax breaks. No furious reaction to that either.
2
IllustriousNorth338 Apr 2, 2026 +3
Also Jeffries: ... and I will do my best to make sure they don't get *too* mad. My corporate overlords need me for that.
3
233C Apr 2, 2026 +2
Furiously, as in Jan 6th furious, or more like a "the rich and powerful are preying on you and your children, destroying your life and your environment, let's change our profile picture" -furious?
2
oculeers Apr 2, 2026 +3
Jeffries (and Schumer) are so utterly ineffectual that you might think that they are simply the "loyal opposition" that actually enables the GOP. We need regime change...in America.
3
torinismyname Apr 2, 2026 +1
I wish he would
1
Kaizen2468 Apr 2, 2026 +1
Oh yeah republicans have been doing that forever but they still vote for them
1
dkepp87 Apr 2, 2026 +1
The f****** balls to say "would".
1
gwsth Apr 2, 2026 +1
We were also told that Americans would react furiously to gutting the ACA. They gutted the ACA. Americans did not react furiously. We were told that $4 and $5 gas would make americans react furiously. Gas is now at $4, $5 in many places and shows no signs of slowing down. Americans did not react furiously.
1
Cleanbriefs Apr 2, 2026 +1
TBH Probably not. Seeing how furiously we have reacted to everything prior to this. Maybe furiously is wrong definition here.
1
sylbug Apr 2, 2026 +1
lol sure they would. Maybe they will furiously match on a sunny Saturday afternoon in a frog suit. That should be super effective.
1
Titan3692 Apr 2, 2026 +1
would we tho?
1
notie547 Apr 2, 2026 +1
I mean, Trump and republicans passed OB3 which cut benefits to pay for tax cuts for rich people. They were all pretty open about it to. Nothing happened as his base is generally devoid of critical thinking and are in a cult.
1
10v1 Apr 2, 2026 +1
I'm not so sure. His supporters already don't believe a single bad headline/news article about him. There'll be a spin put to it by the faces and mouth pieces that fox news employs. That same spin will be the maga talking points for years to come. MAGA still thinks Obama was the Antichrist and Trump is the second coming of Jesus. They're not going to falter support over a little oil war.
1
Phase3Investor Apr 2, 2026 +1
Ironically Iran has national healthcare, free college and also takes care of the world's largest refugee population for decades https://www.fic.nih.gov/News/GlobalHealthMatters/Pages/1209_health-house.aspx
1
cmdr_suds Apr 2, 2026 +1
It's my patriotic duty to give up my healthcare so we can win the war
1
-_GhostDog_- Apr 3, 2026 +1
I don't think I've seen him "furiously" react about anything so far. In fact, I don't see him doing much except sitting on his hands and waiting until the midterms
1
freetherhinoz Apr 3, 2026 +1
Captain f****** obvious
1
Classic-Break5888 Apr 3, 2026 +1
If only Jeffries wasn’t as spineless as Schumer
1
DownwiththeACE Apr 3, 2026 +1
F*** this guy so much. Complete waste of space, owned by AIPAC, and here to do nothing but get in the way.
1
M00nch1ld3 Apr 3, 2026 +1
And Jeffries will be glad to hold another press conference to say so, while talking sternly. Maybe he can get Schumer to look over his glasses, too!
1
CHEVIEWER1 Apr 2, 2026 +1
Jeffries 🤡
1
smurfsundermybed Apr 2, 2026 +1
Hey hakeem. Quick question. Would you? Or would it be another wait for the right time and place to respond; because we're still waiting on you to do that for literally anything.
1
Happy_Feet333 Apr 2, 2026
So... was withholding your vote to "teach the Dems a lesson" over Gaza worth it? Because those of you who did are reaping what you sowed.
