I thought she was good in it but I did not think she'd become this successful at least not so soon.

She made a splash. She plays damaged pretty well. I'd love to see her and Anya Taylor-Joy doing a Thelma and Louise type film

You should watch Thoroughbreds, even though it's Olivia Cooke (who's great) instead of Ortega.

call_me_Kote Apr 9, 2026 +20
I so wish she came back in Slow Horses :(
20
Tarquin11 Apr 9, 2026 +11
She still might

Heymelon Apr 9, 2026 +2
I agree, Thoroughbreds actually has people that act well in it. Like Anya and Olivia.

theodo Apr 9, 2026 +4
Who are you trying to insult here? Ortega can act well too, watch The Fallout

SOLD!

She was great in that film The Fallout. I’d like to see her do a buddy comedy as well (her stuff with Emma Myers in Wednesday is very fun).

ddbllwyn Apr 9, 2026 +1
She’d be a great addition to Fallout as well

Because you hate cheeks?

Plays? She barely does anything, most barebones acting I've ever seen. But, sometimes you get lucky. Anya Taylor-Joy is way too much of an actual performer to be paired with Ortega as co leads or smth.

Some Disney child actors have said that they just do small films for the love of the art because money-wise, the royalties from the Disney Channel stuff still cover a lot of their expenses, so it would have been not surprising at all honestly, if she didn't want to do it anymore.

That’s most TV actors pre-streaming. Residuals don’t make you a millionaire (most of the time) but they cover your bills for life so you work only for disposable income
61
catandodie Apr 10, 2026
I don't think her show Stuck in the Middle was that popular. Residuals do come if you were on network tv but they depend on how popular the show was, how often it reruns, how much screen time you had and how long ago it aired. So some actors only get pennies in checks because of how long ago it was, or how many reruns it gets a month. People from Friends, Golden Girls, Full House, Frasier, and phineas and ferb probably make comfortable money based on popularity and reruns. Kids networks on known for pumping out new shows to avoid years of reruns and keeping them short(3 seasons or less) to avoid paying residuals long term.

I’m glad she didn’t quit, but I wish she acted in good movies. The only movies she has been in that I liked was Insidious (where she played an inconsequential child) and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (which wasn’t very good but I enjoyed it).

Alternative_Towel_10 Apr 9, 2026 +16
I really liked her in The Babysitter Killer Queen too
16
TotalClintonShill Apr 9, 2026
Never heard of it— I’ll check it out.

ImmortalMoron3 Apr 9, 2026 +9
It's a sequel, you should watch the first Babysitter too if you're gonna do that one. But don't worry, it's also a good movie. It was the first movie I saw Samara Weaving in and she kills it.

expectrum Apr 9, 2026 +1
It's a movie genre more for the youngsters tbh I found it cringy at times. The horror movie X where she also stars had a very solid acting performance from her, probably one of the best screams in horror movies.
1
TotalClintonShill Apr 9, 2026 -1
I thought she was solid, but the movie was meh
-1
expectrum Apr 9, 2026
Yeah, she does not have good movies under her belt (yet) only good performances.
0
Massive_Weiner Apr 9, 2026 +78
She really needs to get a new agent.

EsquilaxM Apr 9, 2026 +26
Watch 'The Fallout'. Made for tv film that I think was her first leading film role. *Great* performances.
26
Blackovic Apr 9, 2026 +3
She had a big responsibility leading that film and she crushed it.

TotalClintonShill Apr 9, 2026 +2
Never heard of it— I’ll check it out.

CauliflowerPlane2971 Apr 9, 2026 +17
i loved Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, i rewatch the scene with the wedding and the music number for McArthur Park like once a month. rip Catherine O'Hara
17
Luchalma89 Apr 9, 2026 +12
Wasn't masterpiece but I think it definitely clears the bar of good. For a legacy sequel that's as good as you can ask for.

CrissBliss Apr 10, 2026 +1
Omg same!

orangesuave Apr 9, 2026 +9
Getting typecast is tough no matter who you are.
9
TotalClintonShill Apr 9, 2026 +4
I know she is typecast, but I also can’t help but feel she chooses bad movies and tv shows. She constantly chooses subpar family movies/tv shows. I know these shows constantly need a “goth teen-daughter” character, but I don’t think that means she needs to choose these movies every time; I have to imagine she can get a role in a more serious movie.

bnestrm Apr 9, 2026 +11
Death of a Unicorn was pretty good
11
wiggysbelleza Apr 9, 2026 +2
It was such a silly premise but I loved that movie.
2
cireh88 Apr 9, 2026 +1
Try The Fallout
1
grumblebuzz Apr 9, 2026 +1
She is the best part of Scream 5 and 6 too imo. From her first scene in 5 it became obvious that she could act circles around the other new cast members.
1
TotalClintonShill Apr 9, 2026 +1
Agreed, but I didn’t enjoy either movie
1
CrissBliss Apr 10, 2026
What’s wrong with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice? My family had a good time with it. Also Scream was pretty good.
0
TotalClintonShill Apr 10, 2026 +2
I enjoyed Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it a good movie. For example, think of how unnecessary Beetlejuice’s ex is to the plot.
2
CrissBliss Apr 10, 2026
Depends on your perspective. I loved seeing Monica Belluci in the film. Was she unnecessary? Probably but her character was fun.

SearchTimely2799 Apr 9, 2026 +212
She was great as Ellie Alves in "You". From the first scene she appeared in, she literally popped off the screen and held her own with actors twice her age. What a debut.

Ughasif22 Apr 9, 2026 +39
Wasn’t she a Nickelodeon or Disney child actor
39
scattered_ideas Apr 9, 2026 +83
She was also young Jane in the CW show Jane The Virgin.
83
orangesuave Apr 9, 2026 +30
Disney yep

Soft_Interaction_437 Apr 9, 2026 +26
Yeah she was the lead on Stuck in the Middle. I really liked that show when I was younger.

I_SAID_NO_CHEESE Apr 9, 2026 +11
Goddamn that really is f****** pipeline.
11
Mistrblank Apr 9, 2026 +11
Now, think about how many of them we've seen over the last 3 decades come out of there fucked up.
11
onebread Apr 9, 2026 +13
At the rate Disney pumps out celebs, it kinda seems proportionate to the general population. Plenty huge stars at this point seem pretty well adjusted.
13
92Codester Apr 9, 2026 +13
She was in iron man 3 as the vice president's daughter or granddaughter who was missing a leg.
13
WhoStoleMyBicycle Apr 9, 2026 +11
Profile hidden, super generic comment, 3 month old account, and an autogenerated name. This seems like a bot account to me.
11
FreshDiamond Apr 9, 2026 +2
Totally agree, I watched the entire show even though I didn’t think she was particularly good. She was the highlight of the entire series from the moment she appeared. Season 2 in general was probably in some ways the best to me as well. Definitely some dumb shit but I enjoyed the exploration of Joe kind of developing a somewhat natural normal relationship with Delilah
2
indianajoes Apr 9, 2026 +1
I remember being surprised by her in that because I'd only known her a little bit from watching a couple of episodes of her Disney Channel show.

60discpriest Apr 9, 2026 -23
Not a debut at all lol. She’s terrible and plays the same child in every single thing she is in.

Som3WhereOutTh3r3 Apr 9, 2026 -17
Literally? Was it in 3D?

Som3WhereOutTh3r3 Apr 9, 2026
Lol, crybabies downvoting me.

ciesum Apr 9, 2026 +5
I didn't realize she was a child actor so was pretty surprised she would quit acting before You when she was like 16
5
Mysterious_Ant8200 Apr 9, 2026 +2
kinda wild to think Jenna Ortega was close to dipping before You, that role really flipped everything for her. feels like one of those “right place right time” moments but also shows how rough the industry can be behind the scenes. makes you wonder how many other actors almost quit right before their breakout. honestly glad she stuck it out because she’s been killing it since then.
2
RMRdesign Apr 9, 2026 +2
I almost quit acting also.
2
nambrosch Apr 9, 2026 +5
She could have been a barista. So many missed opportunities.
5
Alternative-Juice-15 Apr 10, 2026 +1
When I hear stories like this I wonder who we missed because they quit just before their big break would have come
1
zowietremendously Apr 11, 2026 +1
Quit acting to do what? Deliver pizza? Work at a bank? She's too famous to have any other career at this point.
1
SeaTurtleLionBird Apr 9, 2026 +1
Why does everyone want to f*** the 15 year old!?

Dang. Could have had a good actress take the roles she's ruined.

Jealous or bot
15
ILoveRegenHealth Apr 9, 2026 -4
I'm sorry but wasn't she just 15-17? Isn't that just starting out? That is nothing compared to the constant stream of rejection someone in their 30s faces. Or many actors who notice the roles dry up in their 40s start thinking of quitting too (Gary Oldman for example before a couple big roles saved him).
-4
Trespeon Apr 9, 2026 +6
She was a Disney child actor and on CW. So she started acting young and did plenty of things by this time.
6
coupleofheaters Apr 9, 2026 -1
She outshone Mia Goth in X.
