The draw of this show for me will be Jensen Ackles & Aya Cash’s dynamic as Soldier Boy & Stormfront/Liberty. Considering they started Herogasm together, gotta imagine they were f***-buddies at the least but question comes in to how much they knew each other and wether or not they had an antagonistic relationship; did Solider Boy know Stromfront was a Nazi? Did Stromfront know Soldier Boy was a fraud? Did they need to keep each other’s secrets?

Wrong-Vermicelli4723 Mar 28, 2026 +119
Question is how will they handle Stormfront… it’s one thing to have a Nazi as the main villain.. whole other thing to have her be the co-lead.. either way I’m looking forward to this.. outside of The Boys s4 an Gen V s2 I’m mostly a fan of Eric Kripke

RealJohnGillman Mar 28, 2026 +56
I could see a twist working of the future Stormfront thinking Soldier Boy was on the cusp of figuring out who she was, and her arranging the events of his capture seen in the Season 3 flashback. That could be a fitting retcon, depending on the approach.
56
MrPuroresu42 Mar 28, 2026 +16
I always felt like Edgar either somehow had to get Stormfront on board with Soldier Boy being taken out or manipulated her into believing the story of his capture by the Russians, cause Payback *barely* managed to take Soldier Boy down by himself. With Stormfront by his side? Would’ve been a slaughter of Payback.
16
Wrong-Vermicelli4723 Mar 28, 2026 +8
I want to say she probably didn’t care at this point. 30 years between Vought rising and Soldier boys capture. Also Edgar wasn’t in charge in the 80s was he? I know he was high ranking but I don’t think he was CEO
8
MrPuroresu42 Mar 28, 2026 +7
Yeah plus I imagine the two probably would’ve gotten on each other’s bad side by that point. As much a POS as he is, Soldier Boy was never gonna lead Stormfront’s dream of Nazi-land. Also, I could se Soldier Boy’s raw chauvinism and need to be the spotlight rubbing Stormfront the wrong way as time went on.
7
Danbito Mar 28, 2026 +4
Well there's some thirty odd years between when the series takes place and when is Soldier Boy captured in Season 3. I would find it interesting if it explains why Stormfront pulled back from the public eye since Liberty is such an obscure hero by present time, whereas Soldier Boy was the defined hero for decades.
4
aelysium Mar 28, 2026 +1
There’s about a five year time gap between when Liberty stops operating and Soldier Boy is captured by the Russians. They could potentially have a couple seasons of drama about exactly what you’re stating at the end of the series.
1
MrPuroresu42 Mar 28, 2026 +13
Good point about Stormfront. Counterpoint: Rufus Sewel as John Smith in The Man in the High Castle may have been the best thing about that show and was a vile Nazi POS (even if they portrayed him more sympathetically at points).
13
Wrong-Vermicelli4723 Mar 28, 2026 +7
High castle a great show. I’m just curious on how they will handle Stormfront. For one she won’t be outed as a Nazi to the public for another 7 decades , this show shortly after WW2 so she would be known as Liberty or whatever bs. Just curious how they will handle her. Like she kinda has to be undercover as a decent human being lol.
7
MrPuroresu42 Mar 28, 2026 +1
It’ll be interesting to see how tight a leash Vought kept on Stromfront and Soldier Boy compared to Homelander.
1
Accomplished-City484 Mar 29, 2026 +1
You mean like this show The Boys where Homelander is a co-lead?
1
soularbabies Mar 29, 2026 +8
I forgot the last season, remind me why he was a fraud?
8
MrPuroresu42 Mar 29, 2026 +20
Didn’t actually participate in D-Day/Normandy invasion (took photos on the beach after the fact) and his military service entailed murdering people on behalf of the government (protestors at Kent State and possibly JFK).
20
RealJohnGillman Mar 29, 2026 +2
I mean he was also an actual soldier, he just didn’t participate in the big push. That was part of why Payback agreed to hand him over to the Russians: he wanted them to be actual soldiers, while they just wanted to be murderous celebrities like most modern supes. I also believe Season 3 cut all scenes of Soldier Boy being intentionally xenophobic because they recognised the spin-off potential of Jensen Ackles’ performance, to say he was actually careless and didn’t question things: more redeemable, like A-Train or Spike from *Buffy the Vampire Slayer*.
2
prazulsaltaret Mar 28, 2026 +2
> Did Stromfront know Soldier Boy was a fraud? I mean, he isn't. He's the strongest Supe in the world.
2
MrPuroresu42 Mar 28, 2026 +12
Who also lied about storming the beaches of Normandy, killed protestors at Kent State, possibly killed JFK and also abused his teammates at every turn, while “posing” as a a great superhero.
12
froyork Mar 28, 2026 +20
They did say strongest not strongest moral character.
20
prazulsaltaret Mar 28, 2026 +2
> Who also lied about storming the beaches of Normandy, There was nothing on Normandy that could've hurt Soldier Boy
2
heartsgrave Mar 29, 2026 +1
But why risk your most important hero, if he's not needed? The allies would have taken Germany anyways, the only thing Soldier Boy would have done is either save a few more lives or whats more likely, risk the lives of his fellow soldiers by being reckless.
1
RealJohnGillman Mar 29, 2026 +1
Honestly, considering his teammates all became your regular murderous celebrity supes, having wanted to be that instead of soldiers, I could see this prequel series reframing the context of that other story as something else, of Soldier Boy also having only taken photos there, after the fact. Always having wanted to actually be sent to war, but usually stuck to the sidelines, hating celebrity culture for good reason.
1
everstillghost Mar 29, 2026 +1
>Who also lied about storming the beaches of Normandy Worst retcon ever. As Edgar told the history to Homelander he said soldier boys was destroying nazis left and right. Then out of nowhere Edgar is dumb and believed in a fake news.
1
heartsgrave Mar 29, 2026 +1
Edgar could have told him that to further influence his need to be a hero and an icon. We know Homelander was a Soldier Boy fan and that he was someone he looked up too. He was the poster boy of Vought. In everyones eyes he was also the shining example of what a hero should be and that was by design. He pressed the buttons that he knew he could, that wish of being percieved in the most positive way imaginable and what better way than to remind him of the guy, that fought the Nazis? Edgar is head of Vought, he knows everything, every lie. If he knows about Compound V, he knows about the photo op.
1
Churnsbutter Mar 29, 2026 +1
Insane to me that stormfront is a founder of herogasm.
1
HuntMore9217 Mar 29, 2026 +1
wait how is soldier boy a fraud?
1
RealJohnGillman Mar 29, 2026 +1
Okay, so the original cut of Season 3 had him outwardly xenophobic, but on recognising the spin-off potential of his performance, all such scenes were cut. Hence why how Soldier Boy actually is seems a little at odds with some of the stories told about him. He did fight in the Second World War, but largely from the back of the lines, only allowed to attend Normandy invasion after the fact for a photo-shoot. Which he felt ashamed by, wanting to do more instead of being stuck doing celebrity shenanigans. So originally Soldier Boy would have disliked Black Noir and M.M. because of their skin colour, but in the final cut, he disliked Noir simply due to how he wanted to be a celebrity instead of a soldier, and was careless when he threw that car through M.M.’s family’s house: like early-stage A-Train with Robin. Making for a more easily redeemable character.
1
HuntMore9217 Mar 29, 2026 +1
so if they deidnt make the cut then it's not canon and the one we have right now is not a fraud cause none of that actually happened in the show right?
1
RealJohnGillman Mar 29, 2026 +1
Pretty much. The thing is, there was a handful of one-off lines referencing that left in Season 3, and as-such, some fans having been going with the original interpretation for now, hence comments like that. I’m sure there will be less once we get into Season 5 and the spin-off series, as with Spike in later seasons of *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* and *Angel* (also a character originally intended as a simple villain before his actor’s performance led to him becoming much more).
1
_CherrySteak_ Mar 29, 2026 +1
Honestly I kinda prefer him being less xenophobic, it makes him a bit more nuanced.
1
RealJohnGillman Mar 29, 2026 +1
Oh, I would agree with you on that front.
1
Practical-Sleep4259 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Feel like Soldier Boy's official stance on Nazi's during the war is going to be like, "Well they are a little confused about the direction, but mostly they seem to be on the right side". Just blatantly who cares and "I don't really do the political stuff" but in the worst like, "You are the symbol of the American War Hero, how do you pay so little attention to everything around you" type way. Like to him they are just "One of the teams" like it's football.

Pandaro81 Mar 29, 2026 +21
Scary Movie 2 was pretty solid though. David Cross, Chris Elliot, and Tim motherfucking Curry? I’ll rub it on my skin any day. I don’t even like James Woods, but I’ll say the opening ten minutes of Scary Movie 2 is ten minutes of some of the greatest parody put to film of that era; on par with classics like Airplane.

Well now, you’re missing some context there. 3 was bad. Shrek 4 is a good movie, phenomenal even. Shrek 1 and 2 are literally perfect, the whiplash from perfect to bad to good is just confusing
1
The-Mandalorian Mar 29, 2026 +1
Shrek the Third has a 41% approval rating, Shrek Forever After has a 58%. Again, it’s better than 3 but it’s not a good movie. Far from phenomenal. I’m glad you liked it, film is subjective but that’s not the opinion shared by the majority of viewers.
1
QuintoBlanco Mar 29, 2026 +1
It's not just about franchises getting worse, it's about feeding people more and more of the stuff they like until all originality is gone. The end-result might still be good, but it's a shame we don't get new things. The first Shrek had fun with subverting Disney tropes in a gentle way. Subsequent Shrek movies are just as formulaic as the straight to video Disney movies of the 1990s.

The original tagline of Scary Movie was like "all laughs, no sequel".
11

That's the whole premise of Scream but 7 is basically Stab now. Richie and Amber in 5 were right.

2
FreemanCalavera Mar 29, 2026 +1
5 at least was a quality film that had a lot of interesting commentary about legacy sequels, franchises, and fandoms. 6 a bit less so but it was alright. 7 was awful and showed that the franchise has passed the point of self-awareness into self-parody.

In their defence this new one is from the original ppl who pitched the first mobie and were all but axed out of future movies and had their idea stolen for the 3rd movie Edit: is it bad that scary movie did so good i thought it was scream

Hasn’t Kevin been involved in all the Scream movies?
1
PastimeOfMine Mar 29, 2026 +1
No, he just looked over the scripts for 5 & 6. No actual creative involvement, script doctoring, story doctoring, directing, etc. He also was cut out of 3 when they didn't like his idea/script. And we obviously haven't had Wes craven since 4. They were definitely a solid team.

I'm not very familiar with the series Past YouTube clips. Are you saying that they aimed to be a parody of a superhero show and instead became an actual superhero show?
11
everstillghost Mar 29, 2026 +5
Thats exactly it.
5
QuintoBlanco Mar 29, 2026 +3
More satire than parody, and specifically a satire of the corporate world. The show had a hard edge that showed the reality of corporations exploiting hero worshipping.
3
StarSeparate7146 Mar 29, 2026 +3
The original comic rips superheroes hard, the author despises most superheroes even though he is a comic writer who has written superheroes and the series is a satire on superhero franchising and the main villain is evil Superman. Yeah, the spinoffs are pretty hypocritical.

The comic wasn’t a “Comixology (Amazon) Exclusive.” After DC forced WildStorm to cancel it, the creators went to an indie publisher which had *literally never* published an original, creator-owned book before.

it probably goes something like this: producer guy: okay, I don't like this message, it can cause civil unrest and political instability, maybe even violent uprising. I am cancelling it screenwrite guy: but money!! producer: money!!! ok. you have convinced me. can we do more seasons after it finishes? screenwriter guy: yeah, but we have to call them spin offs producer guy: yeah!!!! money!!
1
mormonbatman_ Mar 28, 2026 +12
We're probably at a point where people like these characters unironically, right? I'm definitely uncomfortable with this team and this money making a story that humanizes Nazis.
12
CosmackMagus Mar 28, 2026 +14
I don't really think so. It's not like they're making films about the different characters going on heroic adventures. The comics also had spinoffs for exploring different parts of the story in more depth.
14
BigfootsBestBud Mar 29, 2026 +4
I’m so tired of this stupid take being parroted everywhere. The Boys parodies mindless, soulless corporate America and in particular sometimes says Superhero movies are part of that. The point of the Boys isn’t “spin offs and franchises bad”
4
Stalk33r Mar 29, 2026 +4
And The Boys post season 1 (maybe 2 at a push) is exactly that, just with higher shock values.
4
BigfootsBestBud Mar 29, 2026 +1
I agree, I love the show but Post Season 2 I think it lost its teeth as a satire of modern America, and became more of a comic book drama show. Before that it felt more elevated. But having spin offs doesn’t mean the show has lost its soul lol

When they pitched it, they were like, “Hey, we're thinking about doing this prequel thing, going back to the 1950s with Soldier Boy.” I don't think I let them finish the sentence before I was like, “Yes!” But I know that the intent is to have it be a multi-season show.

I mean I enjoy the show, however they already run out of stories to tell two season ago and are just replaying their greatest hits while trying one upping themselves. That’s also why this college show isn’t very interesting. Because we already know that every one on the side of the superhero cooperation is super evil.

0
Vyndasia Mar 29, 2026 +8
my problem with s1 is that it started really strong and had a pretty grounded and compelling mystery. i also think it had important stories to tell that, while I would prefer it remain separate from the main story, completes it in a way because we spend so much time seeing how ordinary people are the victims of supes (VERY, VERY BROAD STROKES), whereas gen v was ordinary young adults who happen to be supes being the victims of people who lack powers or other adults, including their own families. Basically, whether you're a supe or you're not, you're still gonna get fucked by those who have real power, whether that's laser eyes or more money than god. but it got disjointed and had a looootta things rushed and really should have just let itself breathe. it's one thing if it wanted to be a self-contained story but it wasn't structured that way
8
RyanB_ Mar 29, 2026 +1
The finale for S1 *really* went from 0-100 in a bad way imo. I liked the Charles and Xavier thing they were setting up, close friends who are gradually driven apart by ideological divides about their place in wider society. But then it’s like they got bored and just flash-forwarded to that endgame relationship dynamic. Characters went from having hints of darkness to just full-on college campus massacre in, like, one episode. It only made sense at the time as a means of getting the characters and plot where it needed to be for The Boys… but then The Boys S4 came out, and they didn’t really do anything important, just stood around in some scenes. And then we get to Gen V season 2, and because it’s supposed to be this college thing and not a full on x-men show, a lot of that just gets more or less reset. Yeah, you did kinda go on a murderous rampage, but what’s one or two of those compared to the power of friendship?

andygchicago Mar 28, 2026 +16
It was better before they folded it into the main series and it had more of a focus on campus life

BeepusBingus Mar 28, 2026 -10
No it hasn't. Hamish Linklater is an incredible actor, people make the mistake of confusing the two. And the Gen V s2 finale was just atrocious.

He did a fantastic job, but we also liked the first season, which he wasn't a part of

RealJohnGillman Mar 28, 2026 +9
The headline is a little misleading: this series would be a spin-off about Soldier Boy: it really should be titled *Soldier Boy*, but for now it is titled something else.
9
GoinXwell1 Mar 28, 2026 +11
It's titled "Vought Rising"
11
kickthefavelas Mar 29, 2026 +7
Vought Rising is one of the worst spinoff titles ever NGL

TheTruckWashChannel Mar 29, 2026 +5
Should've called it The Adventures of Soldier Boy and Nazi Girl

Gen V isn’t interesting? Are you high?

ChefGamma Mar 29, 2026 +4
To be completely honest the show could have ended on Season 3 and it would’ve been one of the great TV shows.

kane49 Mar 28, 2026 +8
Gen V is absolutely stellar and i wont take that of kind of slander ! Agree on the boys tho

eldestofthecrow Mar 28, 2026 +6
It’s not for me but I’m glad you enjoy it. I’m not one of this Listnookors that didn’t likes a thing and thinks everyone has to agree with them.

OCGamerboy Mar 29, 2026 +6
The Boys is literally one of those shows that did not need to be a franchise

One day Jensen will once again be in something I'm interested in watching. This won't be it, but I'm genuinely happy he's gotten consistent work post-Supernatural. He's talented and I've always had a soft spot for him.

NoNoNotorious85 Mar 29, 2026 +15
He should be very grateful to Eric Kripke.

Nah the fanbase absolutely loves Soldier Boy. Such a good casting choice and character. One of the only good parts of the later seasons. Gonna have the nerds who even turned on the main series coming back for this AND the army of fangirls who love Jensen Ackles frothing at the mouth.

yukpurtsun Mar 29, 2026 +2
hate the kingdom hearts bullshit this show became. watch spinoffs as crucial pieces of the main story

blondebia Mar 28, 2026 +3
Just bring back supernatural.
3
Altruistic_Sail6746 Mar 28, 2026 +58
That show had upwards of 300 episodes across 15 seasons, what more could you possibly want to see?
58
bros402 Mar 28, 2026 +11
I think the fans of it mostly want the OG finale filmed - they had to pare it down to pretty much nothing because it was filmed during the height of COVID restrictions
11
c_hamaeleon Mar 29, 2026 +3
Yeah the ending was really goofy, we got plenty of seasons but I'd love a movie like Timeless or Psych did
3
zorostia Mar 29, 2026 +1
No. I want whoever decided to throw away 15 years of history because they couldn't handle waiting a few months to be sued into oblivion (emotional damages of course being the reason)
1
bros402 Mar 29, 2026 +5
They had no idea if it would be a few months or a few years before they could film the finale they wanted. Everyone was under contracts - it would've cost them wayyyy too much to push things.
5
blondebia Mar 28, 2026 +6
Just them. The brotherly love, the rapport with the actors, the humor. They could really do whatever they wanted storyline wise. The actors seem to keep trying new shows and they mostly don't seem to last so why not bring it back. But I've been wanting it back since it ended. I just think it's a great show.
6
Altruistic_Sail6746 Mar 28, 2026 +10
Just rewatch it, everything has to come to an end eventually, and if there was ever a show that needed to end it was that one
10
blondebia Mar 28, 2026 +6
I do rewatch it. Just an opinion. I would watch if they brought it back.
6
HorrorMetalDnD Mar 29, 2026 +3
Who could they come up with to be the new big bad that could top their final season’s big bad? You have to escalate the threat. Otherwise, a new story in that universe would just fall flat. I’m not saying it’s impossible by any means. Just that it would be an arduous task—high risk, but high reward if it sticks the landing.
3
blondebia Mar 29, 2026 +5
I don't know who the big bad would be but they could do a reset and bring them back and have it set now. Maybe have just the monster of the week and they are trying to figure out why/who brought them back. I always thought it would have been cool to just see an episode where it shows them between the hunts. Like a day in the life with them. But honestly I wouldn't give a shit. I know people complained but I watched that show live every episode and I really enjoyed it. I'm on one of my many rewatches right now. It just makes me feel good.

Kitty-Kat-2002 Mar 29, 2026 +3
There’s a whole fan theory called Chuck Won, supported by the color gradient in heaven used when things were not as it seems at other times during the series, down to the beer brand Dean and Bobby drink also appearing when things were meant to be a fake out, plus Jack’s posture once he absorbs the powers mimics Chuck’s posture. So they could conceivably have a season of the brothers realizing they’re in a fake heaven, evil Chuck is still ruling over everything, and they have to bust out. There could be a final Avengers style showdown of bringing everyone back for one last fight. Oh and Castiel suddenly being there in heaven in that one sentence drop in the finale - they could break into the Empty and rescue him (plus Crowley and any other interesting demons and angels) for the final showdown.

QuestionDry2490 Mar 29, 2026 +3
Possibly a hot take but The Boys was always a pretty mediocre show even during the “better” seasons.
3
RyanB_ Mar 29, 2026 +1
I would say season 1 is genuinely solid. Kinda ugly in the colour grading and such, but it was a cohesive plot that felt planned to reach a certain point. Anything past that? I mean, as a comic book/superhero fan I’ve found enough entertainment to keep watching (tho S4 really pushed that), but yeah, wouldn’t really call any of it “good”.

Not really interested in seeing the prequel or more Stormfront. However, I will enjoy the hell out of season 5 and call it a day. I just hope they don't fumble the bag. 🤞🏾
