Really shouldn’t make jokes that distract from the actual truth of him literally having either dementia or just serious cognitive mental decline
-23
Moving-thefuck-on 4 days ago +50
It’s a reference to his character in half baked and it’s beautiful.

AmbitiousButRubbishh 4 days ago -44
I know the reference I just don’t believe our president’s legitimately obvious & serious mental decline should be brushed off as a some hilarious casual use psychedelics while on the job What happened to the Jon Stewart that left Apple TV because they wouldn’t let him report the bleak factual truth on certain topics/subjects/countries

Go outside homie. He’s a comedian.

AmbitiousButRubbishh 4 days ago -37
Lookie here—somebody who believes there above politics or is too much an enlightened centrist to think anything matters whichever direction it goes in I can do both: go outside and not be ignorant…. What’s your excuse?

Doesn’t quite seem like ya are there. Anyways, good luck to you and your expectations of everyone else. Godspeed.

>I can do both: go outside and not be ignorant…. What’s your excuse? Satire aimed at those in power stretches back thousands of years. People have fought and died for the right to make jokes about rulers. It's the Daily Show, a show that mixes comedy and politics, that's its entire point. You'd have a point if ALL the news was like this.

It's clearly a joke, and you're blowing it out of proportion. I actually live with my mother with dementia...and sometimes the way she acts, kind of day dreaming/off somewhere else. Reminds me of the dissociating moments of being on LSD where you're thinking about something or a memory and almost feel like you're there. You just want to argue and jack off your ego.

Dude I hate the president. But we could have the best president in the world and you’d still get snubbed on invites to parties.

How do you want the daily show to cover Trump, out of curiosity?
9
bananagrams28 4 days ago +11
Huh? It’s comedy, that’s kinda the whole point… also making a joke ABOUT trump’s cognitive decline doesn’t distract from it at all, in fact it’s the whole point- the joke only works because the audience at home already knows trump is losing his marbles. It’s not normalizing the US having a senile president - it’s normalizing public discourse about it by implying that the general public/audience of the show all share that common understanding. Honestly, if I’m turning on a comedy show at the end of my day, I’d be so annoyed to hear a straight up news report. Not the time and place, and I doubt the reporting would be very good. That’s what I read my newspapers for! Truly just because the US govt is absurd and steering towards self destruction does NOT mean it’s illegal to have a giggle about it

Feels like his time at Apple taught Stuart the hard truth lesson that there is no job for him that isn’t ultimately controlled by an ultra wealthy ultra elite individual or Cabal, who have strong, financially-tied, interest in politics or profiteering which Stuart is not allowed to cause problems for or he can quit again Really wish people would stop trying to get him to run for president because they like the daily show He’s not political Gandolf Just let this comedian be a comedian— no he’s no Zelenskyy either

Clownwashing. None of this is funny. And by creating a business out of trying to make light of this sick person and evil administration is only helping to anesthetize the people into continuing to accept it. Shame on these “comedians”.

Jon Stewart has done more to bring issues to light than most politicians. John Oliver moreso.

Imagine being this bent out of shape over a show on a network called Comedy Central.

I personally dont think jokes numb people to the administration… Audiences DO know they’ve put on a comedy show after all. Being able to laugh about it all & take it seriously/be politically engaged isnt mutually exclusive. Also the topics comedians choose to talk about tell viewers who the show’s audience is supposed to be. Hearing a joke like this implies to the viewer that the situation is so dire that there is a general consensus about it, and I think that’s powerful! If trumps cognitive decline wasnt taken seriously, nobody would bother to even joke about it. But I can tell that it is, and I can infer that the general public is not happy about it, through popular culture including satire!

I guess cancel the daily show then.

He’s funnier than jimmy Fallon but that’s the lowest bar . I prefer Colbert or John Oliver but I don’t even watch late night show anyways . I don’t think I want to laugh anymore about what Trump did today’s, doesn’t make me laugh anymore . But even before that I find Jon Stewart humour just like he’s barking and it’s always the same and kind of predictable and boring and overrated /not that smart

Agreed. I don’t even know who watches late night anymore.
