Their grandfather was a sexual predator. He abused multiple girls in their family, so the males have very likely learned this shit from him as well as several other men in their inner circle. Josh was "punished" for sexually abusing his sisters by having his head shaved. It was actually a storyline in the early seasons of their show- his head being shaved, they said it was punishment but left out that it was punishment for sexually abusing his sisters. He hates Jill because she "snitched" on him for touching her. He even called her a snitch at her own wedding, this was also on the show. He sexually abused some of the girls openly, this was all brought up around the time of his trial. They joked about his sexual abuse of the girls on the show. And they blamed the victims. Jim Bob isn't innocent either, he's at least physically abused them. No word on if he ever sexually abused them.

Back when my oldest was going through a troubled teen phase, I remember thinking that maybe if we were more like the Duggars my son wouldn’t have been so “troubled”. Everyone check out the documentary on Amazon Prime Video called “ shiny happy people which delve into the Duggers and the evangelical church” these people are absolute freaks. They completely swept their son molesting their daughters under the rug and still allowed him to be around them. This family visited a stage production I was part of years ago when they were still filming their show. The kids were all super sweet and playful but there was definitely a weird vibe radiating from the older boys and the parents. Growing up the Duggar daughters had to sleep in their clothes in case the oldest brother got into their room. The boys couldn’t have bedding in the beds. All girls in ONE room. They had cribs and toddler beds because once the new baby was weaned mama was trying for the next baby. The girls then had responsibility for the baby and all the younger siblings. Mama grew bored with the baby once it was weaned.

I think I’ve watched maybe one actual episode of the show because I found it disgusting. But I did follow the gossip and snark online until a few years ago. There is so much that is just gross and alarming, but here was TLC serving it up as just so great. I think they were also behind the Willis Family show, another breeder cult family that did seem to allow their girls a bit more autonomy. But their dad turned out to be a horrible creep while mom apparently turned a blind eye. One of their very brave daughters ratted him out. I hope she and her sisters are thriving.
