Opps replied to wrong person first time: My friends do a yearly trip to Disney and do the Star Wars night and all that jazz. It looks like a good time and when I found out it's basically adult only I said I'd like to go one year. The group is 3 people, I'm good friends with 2 of them and I'm an acquaintance of the 3rd. The 2 I know very well said, "yeah for sure, just know we have to book it like almost a year in advance and we login early to get such and such tickets/reservations, but shouldn't be a problem" I said sounds good, then the 3rd one said, "oh he's not a real star wars fan, I don't want him going, he won't get it." B****, I used to own bootleg laserdisc rips to dvd of the original trilogy (lost them when moving.) I've gone to all 6 movies in my lifetime on opening weekend. I read the Thrawn trilogy in middle school and my mom made me an ewok halloween costume when I was like 6 years old, f*** outta here I'm not a fan. Like others have said, people like him ruin shit for everyone else. I think next year I'm going to say f*** it and go with.

Stans ruin everything. They make the object of their affection insufferable and then can't connect their behavior to how their beloved is viewed. Like if I voice a neutral opinion about your beloved and you make up 20 screennames and wish death on me from Google Earth, that absolutely will not endear me to your beloved celebrity/fandom, idiot.

>Star Wars has no place for racists, misogynists etc. Star Trek is the same way.... Riker swings both ways, Jadzia Dax was transgender and pansexual and did a gay kiss 8 years before Ellen, literal interracial sexual relationships are common.... But somehow Trek has only just now been discovered to be "woke."
13
Kitchen-Courage80 5 days ago +9
Lol I was posting almost the same thing, at the same time as you. Waaaay to many fans of the original series and TNG screaming about how "woke" modern Star Trek is and that they've destroyed the franchise because of it.
9
Kitchen-Courage80 5 days ago +6
This is also an issue with the current state of Star Trek. It's crazy how many "fans" are screaming "NuTrek is woke!" It's like most of the episodes from the original series went straight over their heads.

Pickle Rick was the downfall, for whatever reason
13
TCsnowdream 5 days ago +8
Because the episode ripped Rick apart and made it abundantly clear through the therapist that Rick is a deeply *wrong* character. Once that spotlight was shown on Rick’s massive, insane flaws and that he’s a deeply damaged individual who’d rather die and take the world with him than deal with his shit… people sorted into a few categories: 1. The normal people who understood this is a cartoon and went on with their f****** lives. 2. The people who related to Rick on some level and recognize his flaws and moved on. 3. The people who made Rick their personality who never saw (or actively celebrated) him for the absolute sociopath he was had meltdowns online and refused to concede Dr. Wong was right. Seriously. To this day people defend Rick in that episode somehow ‘owned’ Dr. Wong when it’s clear he knows he got called out and she was valid. I actually find the show way better in terms of story and tolerability now that Rick is less of a sociopathic a****** and is slowly… very slowly… verrrrrry slowly improving.

It's interesting for a silly cartoon to have actual character development even though they stay the same age year after year (simpsons style). Homer in 2026 is pretty much the same Homer from 1992, but Rick has changed a bit.

> During a video interview with i-D Magazine, Hutcherson and his castmate Jordan Firstman played a game of camera roll r******* and Hutcherson pulled up a photo of him and his mom in the VIP section at Swift’s Era Tour in New Orleans. “My mom made me,” Hutcherson said of the concert, prompting Firstman to ask if he’s a fan of the pop star. “I’m not a Swiftie,” Hutcherson replied. “Very much not. No shade, all respect, but definitely not.” > This prompted a firestorm on social media, with some fans calling for Hutcherson to be canceled for accepting VIP tickets when he’s not really a fan. Responding to the backlash, Hutcherson told GQ: “I got some heat because I did a photo shoot with Jordan, and Jordan asked me something about being a [Taylor Swift fan], and I was like, ‘Oh no, I’m definitely not a Swiftie,’” he said. “All of a sudden it garnered this, ‘F*** him! He’s a monster! Destroy him! He’s short! He hates her because he’s short!’ [He is five feet five.] “It’s just like, whoa! I think she’s great. Her music is not my kind of music. That is why I don’t want to be online.”

Soft_Hotel_5627 5 days ago +83
\>accepting VIP tickets when he’s not really a fan This is the funniest part to me. Every concert, festival and sporting event ever in the last 25 years+, the VIP sections are probably 75% rich or famous people who have little to no interest in the actual event and got the tickets for free. And these people are in the true VIP sections, not the bullshit VIP packages sold to regular people.

Partymouth2 4 days ago +4
It's so true, one time I was comped a private box due to a major f*** up with my regular tickets, the box came  with free snacks, beer etc. The main benefit was easy access to loos with no queues!   It was interesting to see how the other half live, but my main observation from occupants of other boxes around me is just how not interested in the act people were, talking loudly through songs and generally disinterested. Why did you come if you're treating it like background tv noise? I was more wanting to be in the crowds with the fans in the end.

It’s like training people to be psychotic in a way. Looking for meaning in every action, performance, or product. That’s what delusional disordered patients are like. Not to say that her fans are delusional, but interesting that there is this commonality of behavior. For instance, if a fan were to replay a music video over and over looking for clues, examining liner notes, reviewing her socials and photos. It’s actually the last thing I’d want people to do as a pop star, come to think of it. I wouldn’t want to attract people who are doing this pathologically.

True. It’s always been considered a bit extreme though. It was usually framed as something teenagers and very young adults did and grew out of. Sort of like Beatles Mania. I guess it was assumed that people “grew out of” celebrity obsession. I think nowadays it’s more accepted for all ages to be obsessed. Not only to be obsessed with a celebrity, but also being obsessed with hating them as well.

That i get, but this one right here has the mean girls glazing her. It just seems like thats some special common denominator her fans have that others never quite did. Sometimes her fandom seems like a safe space for narcissists and doesnt try to hide it.
5
nancybyersharrington 5 days ago +29
It was very intentional. When you speak to someone who would call themselves a Swiftie, they feel like they literally know her on a deep intimate level and they can defend that because of all the little “Easter eggs” she’s put into her music, art, posts, outfits, everything, to spell out secret details about her personal life. And it’s not imagined, she literally actively does that and encourages fans to look for it. There are many fanbases that can’t be blamed on the celebrity, but this isn’t one of them
29
ImLittleNana 5 days ago +23
Am I the only one that remembers her having meet ups with small groups of fans, hanging out and acting like ‘we’re the same, besties!’ It was very odd to me and I could never decide if it was genius long game marketing or a reflection of her own immaturity. She very much cultivated a fan base of adolescent girls that eventually grew up to become rabid mega-stans. This is not a universal thing with all singers, bands, celebrities.
23
nancybyersharrington 5 days ago +15
She still does! They’re called “secret sessions” or something like that where she plays her new album to people ahead of time and tells them a bunch of shit about what the songs are about, which obviously spreads because all her boyfriends are famous. And the “leaks” that come out of them are always super strategic. She knows what she’s doing

Look at the audience. I remember my sisters in the 80s. If they’d had the internet and “fandoms” (that are really not so different from cults) they would have been the same over Wham or Boy George. Social media is a scourge, but especially bad for kids who are developing extremely unhealthy and obsessive traits, that could become serious disorders if not interrupted or redirected.

Yeah I hate any fandom that ignores what the person they idolize says merely because you have to defend them at all cost. And lots of people on Listnook assume it’s a sexist thing. I also dislike how Andrew from channel 5 News will have kids declare he isn’t a rapist because he was never arrested. But mind you Andrew admits to wrong doing and says the mindset he has about sex was a terrible one. So dude admits to being bad and fans still say no. Taylor has the same thing happen with her fandom. She is no more than modern day Josie and the pussycats. Meaning she isn’t her true self and everything she does is PR driven. The fans will declare this as bullshit but Taylor herself in her own HBO doc cried about how she couldn’t stand up for women’s rights because her daddy and PR team said it would be bad to speak against Trump (this doc was like 2020 and referring to her being silent from 2016-2020). It was her crying and admitting she can’t speak on issues she would like to because of the PR aspect. And she only started speaking ill of Trump once it was shown it didn’t make you lose fans.

Rabid fans are never to be trusted for opinion regarding their chosen obsessions. I wouldn't ask a feral cats opinion on a chicken drumstick it was tearing into.  I won't ask an obsessive fan their opinion of their chosen obsession. And that's about as far as this thought process needs to go.  The rest is rage bait, engagement bait, and constructed drama.

That’s exactly how I feel about it. People can like what they like, but man, fandoms are way too intense and polarizing. Life existed before the fandom came about, and there is in fact more to life than said fandom. It seems like fans often forget that, or simply have lost the plot

Stan culture has tainted popular art in a lot of ways, people don’t care about the content, just that it’s their favorite doing it. It’s how people can somehow act like that Justin Bieber performance was a “masterpiece”, when he just got paid 10 million to watch YouTube videos. Celebrities barely have to do damage control anymore because their fans do it for them.

I have never understood why people get *sooo* upset when someone doesn’t like the same thing that they do. I don’t have anything against Taylor swift. I know like three songs that’s in one of my playlists and they’re ok. I don’t dislike her, but I can’t say that I like her more than any other average artists. But I have met people that react with actual anger when I say this. And it’s not limited to Taylor swift, that’s just an example of a very common thing. And I genuinely don’t understand why people get so emotional and angry when someone doesn’t share their taste in music, books, movies, sport teams and so on.

A lot of people like her music. A lot of people hate it. So what. If you're trying to cancel someone for not liking Taylor Swift or any other singer you're the problem that needs to be cancelled.

Fans can always be bad. But Taylors are on some real propoganda. Taylor Swift has a PR team that rivals presidents PR teams.

People gotta lighten up. He just said he didn’t like her music…? Ok! I don’t either lol. Not saying she isn’t talented.

At the same time you could just not criticize others and focus on lifting up the people you do like and none of this would happen right? A: I don't like them. B: I don't like you. A: Thats not fair.

Did we ever like the internet? I've been online since the BBS days and it is just a negative hole of humanity but much bigger now. Will I still use the internet? We have no choice at this point.

I am going to get expelled from Listnook for this, but I honestly neither like the music of Beyoncé or Taylor Swift.

Her fans are absolutely insane and she milks them for money so much. Releasing several different versions of the same album, with different art or one song different

This is why I thought Harris would win, with the swifties showing up in droves. Turns out they only care about anything if it doesn't mean leaving the couch.

She is beyond overrated and overexposed. Go watch videos of isolated live vocals or compilations of her pretending to play the guitar and piano. Look up how she made it to fame in the first place (Scott swift emails). She is a fraud and a con artist that robs her fans blind.

Most h******* fans are a bit nutty in the head. Imagine idolizing someone whose job is singing or acting or chasing a goddamn ball through a field. Any slight against their favorite actor, singer or player is taken very personally, and for some reason, they think they have to avenge their beloved idol. I don't understand why celebrity culture exists, but I despise it. If you are gonna idolize something, at least idolize someone who makes life better for everyone, like whoever the f*** came out with the microwave oven.

I like a couple of her songs. I like Charlie xcx way better. The entire Wuthering Heights album is spectacular, and Taylor would never do anything like that. Taylor is just OK.

Taylor Swift is responsible for her fans behavior in this case because she trained them to be like this. Of course, they need to share in the blame themselves but TS is an egomaniac and a shitty person.

Stans are the worst. Just a bunch of mentally and emotionally unbalanced people throwing fits over total strangers that don't feel the same way as they do. It's not just celebs, if you talk to them long enough, you'll see that they flip out if they say, "wow that's really red" and you say, "I don't see it". They flip out and it will be the same as if you said you don't like a certain song their beloved sings. They are just really off course, immature, not smart and can't handle the slightest thing.

Taylor Swift fans are certifiable. With her influence over them, she could curb a lot of that toxic behaviour, but she chooses not to. Interesting.
2
HoneyBeyBee 4 days ago +2
Her fans are insufferable and have ruined many pop culture and music subs. Can’t say anything critical of her. I left a different pop star sublistnook because they, too, are insufferable and have adopted the Swift fan MO of looking for “Easter eggs”, calling valid correction and critique “jealousy”, and making up nonsense.
2

There is very loud, violent, and monstrously malicious part of every fandom that wants blood. Doesn't matter what the media is, there is a small minority of weird, creepy, and disgusting losers who want to see destruction on anyone who even has a thought they don't like about the media they love. From Taylor Swift to Star Wars to Warhammer 40k to Final Fantasy and everything else; there are some fans that live to be monsters.

My whole gripe is not with Taylor herself or her music lyrically. I just don't like pop music so I don't listen to it. But I will say that like any fanbase some take things way too far, she just has a very large fanbase so the vocal (crazy) ones are alot more plentiful than other personalities may have.
2
tpeandjelly727 4 days ago +2
Damn people can dislike things, even Taylor knows her music isn’t for everyone and accepts that. To be an artist in the industry is to understand that you’re never going to necessarily appeal to everyone and all demographics. Maybe we should dm him and ask what music does he like? Now I’m curious. I feel like he would enjoy rap/hip hop. lol
2
Babebutters 4 days ago +2
I once stated on Facebook that her music was boring and I got a three paragraph lecture from some b**** (who claimed not to be a Swiftie) about how there was a special place in hell for women that don’t support other women.
