I 100% feel you on the Star Wars fandom front. The insane discourse over The Last Jedi just let me know I don’t want to be associated with that fanbase (at least online). (Just to be fully transparent, I’m in the seemingly minority of fans that loved that movie)

I’ve gotten into so many things pre-critical mass… I basically avoid anything that resembles a “fandom”. They’re supposed to be hobbies!!! Not your entire personality!!!

I mentioned that the Edward Cullen Batman movie sent me to sleep on each of the three times I watched it and got loads of c*** for it. Not worth it.

It's because there isn't much to talk about for any given celebrity. At least Star Wars and Batman have lore for people to nerd out about. Celebrity fanbases quickly run out of interesting topics and have to resort to gossip and weird obsessive stuff.

I prefer it when the fans just seem really stupid and not critical. I know it’s not such a good sign that the show you’re watching is very intelligent, but at least nobody is whining or fighting.

It's so true, one time I was comped a private box due to a major f*** up with my regular tickets, the box came  with free snacks, beer etc. The main benefit was easy access to loos with no queues!   It was interesting to see how the other half live, but my main observation from occupants of other boxes around me is just how not interested in the act people were, talking loudly through songs and generally disinterested. Why did you come if you're treating it like background tv noise? I was more wanting to be in the crowds with the fans in the end. 

Taylor Swift's fame was built on fans speculating on all types of rumors and looking for symbolism in every word, picture and video she's in.

I waded neck deep into Swiftie territory on Twitter on more than one occasion after Coach Letterman kicked the hornets nest and they're crazy. It was a ton of fun trolling them from the safety of my home, but I can't imagine having to deal with them IRL lol

Look at the audience. I remember my sisters in the 80s. If they’d had the internet and “fandoms” (that are really not so different from cults) they would have been the same over Wham or Boy George. Social media is a scourge, but especially bad for kids who are developing extremely unhealthy and obsessive traits, that could become serious disorders if not interrupted or redirected.

My husband got berated by a fan IRL once (a coworker of his) because he didn’t know or like Taylor’s music. This was like a decade or so ago. He didn’t even actively hate her— he just clearly was not the target demographic for her music. Wild

Yeah I hate any fandom that ignores what the person they idolize says merely because you have to defend them at all cost. And lots of people on Listnook assume it’s a sexist thing. I also dislike how Andrew from channel 5 News will have kids declare he isn’t a rapist because he was never arrested. But mind you Andrew admits to wrong doing and says the mindset he has about sex was a terrible one. So dude admits to being bad and fans still say no. Taylor has the same thing happen with her fandom. She is no more than modern day Josie and the pussycats. Meaning she isn’t her true self and everything she does is PR driven. The fans will declare this as bullshit but Taylor herself in her own HBO doc cried about how she couldn’t stand up for women’s rights because her daddy and PR team said it would be bad to speak against Trump (this doc was like 2020 and referring to her being silent from 2016-2020). It was her crying and admitting she can’t speak on issues she would like to because of the PR aspect. And she only started speaking ill of Trump once it was shown it didn’t make you lose fans.

Yes! I will be the first to admit that The Pitt has me in a chokehold. But I get secondhand embarrassment from some of the fandom🙄
