Other fans are why I don't openly claim to be a fan of anything anymore.

I first experienced this with Star Wars, then Batman, and it never got better. I do think it’s the worst with music though.

I was once told I wasn’t a real Star Wars fan because I didn’t watch the original trilogy on VHS tapes. I’m not kidding.

If you didn’t read them in the original cuneiform on the clay tablets from Nineveh, are you even a fan? Poser /s

Opps replied to wrong person first time: My friends do a yearly trip to Disney and do the Star Wars night and all that jazz. It looks like a good time and when I found out it's basically adult only I said I'd like to go one year. The group is 3 people, I'm good friends with 2 of them and I'm an acquaintance of the 3rd. The 2 I know very well said, "yeah for sure, just know we have to book it like almost a year in advance and we login early to get such and such tickets/reservations, but shouldn't be a problem" I said sounds good, then the 3rd one said, "oh he's not a real star wars fan, I don't want him going, he won't get it." B****, I used to own bootleg laserdisc rips to dvd of the original trilogy (lost them when moving.) I've gone to all 6 movies in my lifetime on opening weekend. I read the Thrawn trilogy in middle school and my mom made me an ewok halloween costume when I was like 6 years old, f*** outta here I'm not a fan. Like others have said, people like him ruin shit for everyone else. I think next year I'm going to say f*** it and go with.

If you end up going you have a prime opportunity to call him out on even the slightest lack of knowledge on anything SW related and then be like “but it’s ok, only a real Star Wars fan would’ve known that”

I catch shit from Star Wars fans cause I liked the prequels and even the new trilogy. Even though I'm as old as they usually are.

Some Star Wars fans don’t deserve to be Star Wars fans. Star Wars has no place for racists, misogynists etc. Yet here they are.

Stans ruin everything. They make the object of their affection insufferable and then can't connect their behavior to how their beloved is viewed. Like if I voice a neutral opinion about your beloved and you make up 20 screennames and wish death on me from Google Earth, that absolutely will not endear me to your beloved celebrity/fandom, idiot.

Hyperion1144 Apr 20, 2026 +13
>Star Wars has no place for racists, misogynists etc. Star Trek is the same way.... Riker swings both ways, Jadzia Dax was transgender and pansexual and did a gay kiss 8 years before Ellen, literal interracial sexual relationships are common.... But somehow Trek has only just now been discovered to be "woke."
13
Kitchen-Courage80 Apr 20, 2026 +9
Lol I was posting almost the same thing, at the same time as you. Waaaay to many fans of the original series and TNG screaming about how "woke" modern Star Trek is and that they've destroyed the franchise because of it.
9
Kitchen-Courage80 Apr 20, 2026 +6
This is also an issue with the current state of Star Trek. It's crazy how many "fans" are screaming "NuTrek is woke!" It's like most of the episodes from the original series went straight over their heads.
6
Acceptable_Ad_6278 Apr 20, 2026 +24

I 100% feel you on the Star Wars fandom front. The insane discourse over The Last Jedi just let me know I don’t want to be associated with that fanbase (at least online). (Just to be fully transparent, I’m in the seemingly minority of fans that loved that movie)

I’ve gotten into so many things pre-critical mass… I basically avoid anything that resembles a “fandom”. They’re supposed to be hobbies!!! Not your entire personality!!!

I mentioned that the Edward Cullen Batman movie sent me to sleep on each of the three times I watched it and got loads of c*** for it. Not worth it.
5
Christmas_Queef Apr 20, 2026 +5
To be fair it's a 3 hour movie with a lot of slow burn that doesn't really pop off until the final 30 minutes of the movie. I love it but I can totally see why someone would feel the way you do.

Man I sympathize there I no fandom more toxic an unwelcoming then the star wars fandom
2
LikeABreadstick Apr 20, 2026 +2
It's because there isn't much to talk about for any given celebrity. At least Star Wars and Batman have lore for people to nerd out about. Celebrity fanbases quickly run out of interesting topics and have to resort to gossip and weird obsessive stuff.

Pickle Rick was the downfall, for whatever reason
13
TCsnowdream Apr 20, 2026 +8
Because the episode ripped Rick apart and made it abundantly clear through the therapist that Rick is a deeply *wrong* character. Once that spotlight was shown on Rick’s massive, insane flaws and that he’s a deeply damaged individual who’d rather die and take the world with him than deal with his shit… people sorted into a few categories: 1. The normal people who understood this is a cartoon and went on with their f****** lives. 2. The people who related to Rick on some level and recognize his flaws and moved on. 3. The people who made Rick their personality who never saw (or actively celebrated) him for the absolute sociopath he was had meltdowns online and refused to concede Dr. Wong was right. Seriously. To this day people defend Rick in that episode somehow ‘owned’ Dr. Wong when it’s clear he knows he got called out and she was valid. I actually find the show way better in terms of story and tolerability now that Rick is less of a sociopathic a****** and is slowly… very slowly… verrrrrry slowly improving.
8
TomBradysStatue Apr 20, 2026 +3
It's interesting for a silly cartoon to have actual character development even though they stay the same age year after year (simpsons style). Homer in 2026 is pretty much the same Homer from 1992, but Rick has changed a bit.

> During a video interview with i-D Magazine, Hutcherson and his castmate Jordan Firstman played a game of camera roll r******* and Hutcherson pulled up a photo of him and his mom in the VIP section at Swift’s Era Tour in New Orleans. “My mom made me,” Hutcherson said of the concert, prompting Firstman to ask if he’s a fan of the pop star. “I’m not a Swiftie,” Hutcherson replied. “Very much not. No shade, all respect, but definitely not.” > This prompted a firestorm on social media, with some fans calling for Hutcherson to be canceled for accepting VIP tickets when he’s not really a fan. Responding to the backlash, Hutcherson told GQ: “I got some heat because I did a photo shoot with Jordan, and Jordan asked me something about being a [Taylor Swift fan], and I was like, ‘Oh no, I’m definitely not a Swiftie,’” he said. “All of a sudden it garnered this, ‘F*** him! He’s a monster! Destroy him! He’s short! He hates her because he’s short!’ [He is five feet five.] “It’s just like, whoa! I think she’s great. Her music is not my kind of music. That is why I don’t want to be online.”

Soft_Hotel_5627 Apr 20, 2026 +83
\>accepting VIP tickets when he’s not really a fan This is the funniest part to me. Every concert, festival and sporting event ever in the last 25 years+, the VIP sections are probably 75% rich or famous people who have little to no interest in the actual event and got the tickets for free. And these people are in the true VIP sections, not the bullshit VIP packages sold to regular people.
83
Partymouth2 Apr 21, 2026 +4
It's so true, one time I was comped a private box due to a major f*** up with my regular tickets, the box came  with free snacks, beer etc. The main benefit was easy access to loos with no queues!   It was interesting to see how the other half live, but my main observation from occupants of other boxes around me is just how not interested in the act people were, talking loudly through songs and generally disinterested. Why did you come if you're treating it like background tv noise? I was more wanting to be in the crowds with the fans in the end.

It’s like training people to be psychotic in a way. Looking for meaning in every action, performance, or product. That’s what delusional disordered patients are like. Not to say that her fans are delusional, but interesting that there is this commonality of behavior. For instance, if a fan were to replay a music video over and over looking for clues, examining liner notes, reviewing her socials and photos. It’s actually the last thing I’d want people to do as a pop star, come to think of it. I wouldn’t want to attract people who are doing this pathologically.

How did she capture such a strange milieu of fans? I mean honestly, I have NEVER seen a pop star with that kind of rabid weirdness from their fans. How did seemingly EVERY middle school mean girl decide that this was their gal? Its strange at to me.
62
inksmudgedhands Apr 20, 2026 +66
Pop star fans have always been this way. See Elvis fans, Beatles fans, Madonna fans and, yes, Michael Jackson fans. They all had rabid fans that would worship them like gods.
66
whoadudechillfr Apr 20, 2026 +20
Old ladies used to have big glass spheres with Elvis’ face all stretched out inside them. Never forget that fan is short for fanatic.

3
Rainbow4Bronte Apr 20, 2026 +11
True. It’s always been considered a bit extreme though. It was usually framed as something teenagers and very young adults did and grew out of. Sort of like Beatles Mania. I guess it was assumed that people “grew out of” celebrity obsession. I think nowadays it’s more accepted for all ages to be obsessed. Not only to be obsessed with a celebrity, but also being obsessed with hating them as well.
11
Ep1cUser Apr 20, 2026 +4
Check out r/drizzy (Drake) and you'll see the same names on every post spouting hatred for any person who has ever "opposed" the man. Some of the commenters are well into adulthood. I like some of his music but ever since the Kendrick thing I had to leave that sublistnook lol.
4
mephibosheth90 Apr 20, 2026 +5
That i get, but this one right here has the mean girls glazing her. It just seems like thats some special common denominator her fans have that others never quite did. Sometimes her fandom seems like a safe space for narcissists and doesnt try to hide it.
5
nancybyersharrington Apr 20, 2026 +29
It was very intentional. When you speak to someone who would call themselves a Swiftie, they feel like they literally know her on a deep intimate level and they can defend that because of all the little “Easter eggs” she’s put into her music, art, posts, outfits, everything, to spell out secret details about her personal life. And it’s not imagined, she literally actively does that and encourages fans to look for it. There are many fanbases that can’t be blamed on the celebrity, but this isn’t one of them
29
ImLittleNana Apr 20, 2026 +23
Am I the only one that remembers her having meet ups with small groups of fans, hanging out and acting like ‘we’re the same, besties!’ It was very odd to me and I could never decide if it was genius long game marketing or a reflection of her own immaturity. She very much cultivated a fan base of adolescent girls that eventually grew up to become rabid mega-stans. This is not a universal thing with all singers, bands, celebrities.
23
nancybyersharrington Apr 20, 2026 +15
She still does! They’re called “secret sessions” or something like that where she plays her new album to people ahead of time and tells them a bunch of shit about what the songs are about, which obviously spreads because all her boyfriends are famous. And the “leaks” that come out of them are always super strategic. She knows what she’s doing
15
shuipz94 Apr 20, 2026 +6
The Secret Sessions have stopped, last one was in 2019.
6
demoldbones Apr 20, 2026 +7
Can confirm this. One of my ex friends is like this - literally she spent an hour at dinner one time talking with another Swiftie at the table about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship as if they know them personally. It’s honestly so bizarre and cringey to me.
7
VulcanCookies Apr 20, 2026 +21
I feel like the Beliebers were worse, and Kpop stans are also extreme to the point where female kpop stars aren't allowed to date because it's seen as disrespectful to the fans somehow
21
Takkarro Apr 20, 2026 +12
Japanese idols have the same issue on the dating front. So many of these losers feel personally attacked when a girl they will never date decides to date some one that isn't them. It's crazy toxic but is painfully prevelent other there.
12
Smodphan Apr 20, 2026 +5
The Michael Jackson defenders would like a word.
5
nancybyersharrington Apr 20, 2026 +22
Exactly, she encourages them. She also weaponized them. Taylor built this fandom to be exactly what it is, and she’s profited insanely from it.
22
AgentCirceLuna Apr 20, 2026 +3

Look at the audience. I remember my sisters in the 80s. If they’d had the internet and “fandoms” (that are really not so different from cults) they would have been the same over Wham or Boy George. Social media is a scourge, but especially bad for kids who are developing extremely unhealthy and obsessive traits, that could become serious disorders if not interrupted or redirected.
2
MostlyBored11 Apr 20, 2026 +57
Man I actually enjoy Tswift but her fans make me not like her. Like the guy said nothing mean, he clearly respects her and it's just not his cup of tea music wise. Like why attack him over that it's not like he's calling for her death or something
57
nonsensestuff Apr 20, 2026 +14
My husband got berated by a fan IRL once (a coworker of his) because he didn’t know or like Taylor’s music. This was like a decade or so ago. He didn’t even actively hate her— he just clearly was not the target demographic for her music. Wild
14
takemyaptplz Apr 20, 2026 +18
I’m not a fan, I think there’s sooo so many people way more talented than her, but her fans acting like she’s Jesus or something is why I’ve started to actively dislike her
18
satanssweatycheeks Apr 20, 2026 +13
Yeah I hate any fandom that ignores what the person they idolize says merely because you have to defend them at all cost. And lots of people on Listnook assume it’s a sexist thing. I also dislike how Andrew from channel 5 News will have kids declare he isn’t a rapist because he was never arrested. But mind you Andrew admits to wrong doing and says the mindset he has about sex was a terrible one. So dude admits to being bad and fans still say no. Taylor has the same thing happen with her fandom. She is no more than modern day Josie and the pussycats. Meaning she isn’t her true self and everything she does is PR driven. The fans will declare this as bullshit but Taylor herself in her own HBO doc cried about how she couldn’t stand up for women’s rights because her daddy and PR team said it would be bad to speak against Trump (this doc was like 2020 and referring to her being silent from 2016-2020). It was her crying and admitting she can’t speak on issues she would like to because of the PR aspect. And she only started speaking ill of Trump once it was shown it didn’t make you lose fans.

38
DennenTH Apr 20, 2026 +128
Rabid fans are never to be trusted for opinion regarding their chosen obsessions. I wouldn't ask a feral cats opinion on a chicken drumstick it was tearing into.  I won't ask an obsessive fan their opinion of their chosen obsession. And that's about as far as this thought process needs to go.  The rest is rage bait, engagement bait, and constructed drama.
128
Electronic-Morning25 Apr 20, 2026 +9
That’s exactly how I feel about it. People can like what they like, but man, fandoms are way too intense and polarizing. Life existed before the fandom came about, and there is in fact more to life than said fandom. It seems like fans often forget that, or simply have lost the plot

6
hung_fu Apr 20, 2026 +18
Stan culture has tainted popular art in a lot of ways, people don’t care about the content, just that it’s their favorite doing it. It’s how people can somehow act like that Justin Bieber performance was a “masterpiece”, when he just got paid 10 million to watch YouTube videos. Celebrities barely have to do damage control anymore because their fans do it for them.

Not liking and hating are really two different things. I'm not a fan of her, but I don't hate her music. It's just not my thing. I do think her music is better than most modern mainstream music, and she certainly has talent. I feel the same about most mainstream popular artists nowadays as well. I don't think I actually hate any of them though.

mymemesnow Apr 20, 2026 +9
I have never understood why people get *sooo* upset when someone doesn’t like the same thing that they do. I don’t have anything against Taylor swift. I know like three songs that’s in one of my playlists and they’re ok. I don’t dislike her, but I can’t say that I like her more than any other average artists. But I have met people that react with actual anger when I say this. And it’s not limited to Taylor swift, that’s just an example of a very common thing. And I genuinely don’t understand why people get so emotional and angry when someone doesn’t share their taste in music, books, movies, sport teams and so on.

This is an important point to make. Her polarity is insane when she is probably more of neutral figure. Its exhibit #1 on how the internet is driven.

Right now the Pitt fandom is getting to that point!
10
hooch Apr 20, 2026 +3
Love the show, but I steer miles clear of the fandom
3
DoggieMommy96 Apr 21, 2026 +2
Yes! I will be the first to admit that The Pitt has me in a chokehold. But I get secondhand embarrassment from some of the fandom🙄

ToughReality9508 Apr 20, 2026 +9
I don't like bacon. You have no idea the amount of people who will actively to my face tell me I'm wrong... Or say 'you just haven't tried it in the right salad or food'. It's a f****** preference. I'm allowed to have those without being demonized.

My dad hated Taylor Swift. I didn't care either way. He passed away last year. I carry his torch for him. Shut up Taylor Swift, you stink!

People need to learn that simply saying “I don’t like what you like” is not an insult about you liking something I don’t like. It’s just, as the expression goes “not my cup of tea.”
7
Billybobberry0 Apr 20, 2026 +24
Go on any sublistnook, comment or post literally any opinion related to that sublistnook, you will be attacked regardless if it’s good or bad. He hit the nail on the head about the internet, most people don’t want to discuss topics, they just want to fight
24
Call555JackChop Apr 20, 2026 +29
Her fans go to great lengths to defend her mediocre music
29
Status_Apartment6559 Apr 20, 2026 +10
A lot of people like her music. A lot of people hate it. So what. If you're trying to cancel someone for not liking Taylor Swift or any other singer you're the problem that needs to be cancelled.
10
Dreaditor00 Apr 20, 2026 +12
Fans can always be bad. But Taylors are on some real propoganda. Taylor Swift has a PR team that rivals presidents PR teams.

Neilio00 Apr 20, 2026 +5
People gotta lighten up. He just said he didn’t like her music…? Ok! I don’t either lol. Not saying she isn’t talented.

At the same time you could just not criticize others and focus on lifting up the people you do like and none of this would happen right? A: I don't like them. B: I don't like you. A: Thats not fair.

Did we ever like the internet? I've been online since the BBS days and it is just a negative hole of humanity but much bigger now. Will I still use the internet? We have no choice at this point.

I am going to get expelled from Listnook for this, but I honestly neither like the music of Beyoncé or Taylor Swift.
8
Goz_system Apr 20, 2026 +6
Taylor Swift is so overrated and I'm tired of pretending she's not.

Stan culture is f****** horrible as a whole when it comes to musicians.
4

Her fans are absolutely insane and she milks them for money so much. Releasing several different versions of the same album, with different art or one song different
13
Fluid_Explorer_3659 Apr 20, 2026 +4
This is why I thought Harris would win, with the swifties showing up in droves. Turns out they only care about anything if it doesn't mean leaving the couch.
4

All fandoms are always, inevitably, toxic.

She is beyond overrated and overexposed. Go watch videos of isolated live vocals or compilations of her pretending to play the guitar and piano. Look up how she made it to fame in the first place (Scott swift emails). She is a fraud and a con artist that robs her fans blind.

Idk what’s worse, insane swifties or insane TS haters. You both f****** stink lmao

Most h******* fans are a bit nutty in the head. Imagine idolizing someone whose job is singing or acting or chasing a goddamn ball through a field. Any slight against their favorite actor, singer or player is taken very personally, and for some reason, they think they have to avenge their beloved idol. I don't understand why celebrity culture exists, but I despise it. If you are gonna idolize something, at least idolize someone who makes life better for everyone, like whoever the f*** came out with the microwave oven.
2
Hyperion1144 Apr 20, 2026 +2
I like a couple of her songs. I like Charlie xcx way better. The entire Wuthering Heights album is spectacular, and Taylor would never do anything like that. Taylor is just OK.
2
Special_Life_9625 Apr 20, 2026 +2
Her fans are bat shit insane and she does nothing to shut it down
2
TheFumingatzor Apr 20, 2026 +2
Yeah, most Swifties ain't right up in thar. They need a therapy or two, or maybe three, who knows...
2
hot-black-coffee Apr 20, 2026 +2
Taylor Swift is responsible for her fans behavior in this case because she trained them to be like this. Of course, they need to share in the blame themselves but TS is an egomaniac and a shitty person.
2
Honest_Chef323 Apr 20, 2026 +2

2

Travis Kelce’s mom was on Traitors and the other people were worried about voting her off because the Swifties would be upset.
2

Thats why i hate the internet AND taylor swift psycho fans.
2
Trix_Are_4_90Kids Apr 20, 2026 +2
Stans are the worst. Just a bunch of mentally and emotionally unbalanced people throwing fits over total strangers that don't feel the same way as they do. It's not just celebs, if you talk to them long enough, you'll see that they flip out if they say, "wow that's really red" and you say, "I don't see it". They flip out and it will be the same as if you said you don't like a certain song their beloved sings. They are just really off course, immature, not smart and can't handle the slightest thing.
2
Rogue_Ninja_Taco Apr 20, 2026 +2
Imagine being ostracized simply because you don't like someone's music. That is pathetic on so many levels.
2
awjeezrickyaknow Apr 20, 2026 +2
I’ll never forget when someone made a death threat towards John Mayer because of his relationship with Taylor and he was just like “you really want me to die?”
2
Longjumping-Air1489 Apr 20, 2026 +2
“Josh Hutcherson openly called for the ritual murder and vivisection of Taylor Swift and all her fans, in an effort to prevent the incursion of Demons from the 8th Dimension. “ Now see, THAT I can see resulting in calling him a monster and destroying him. He doesn’t like her music? Who cares? Are Swifties that deranged? What’s happening these days? I gotta go lie down…
2

2
CdnGamerGal Apr 21, 2026 +2
Taylor Swift fans are certifiable. With her influence over them, she could curb a lot of that toxic behaviour, but she chooses not to. Interesting.
2
HoneyBeyBee Apr 21, 2026 +2
Her fans are insufferable and have ruined many pop culture and music subs. Can’t say anything critical of her. I left a different pop star sublistnook because they, too, are insufferable and have adopted the Swift fan MO of looking for “Easter eggs”, calling valid correction and critique “jealousy”, and making up nonsense.
2
AutisticHobbit Apr 21, 2026 +2
There is very loud, violent, and monstrously malicious part of every fandom that wants blood. Doesn't matter what the media is, there is a small minority of weird, creepy, and disgusting losers who want to see destruction on anyone who even has a thought they don't like about the media they love. From Taylor Swift to Star Wars to Warhammer 40k to Final Fantasy and everything else; there are some fans that live to be monsters.
2
morts73 Apr 21, 2026 +2
You should be able to give a take without fans jumping down your throat, but also understand how passionate some fan bases are and be prepared if you poke the hornets nest.
2
Robtism Apr 21, 2026 +2
Her music sucks though so I agree with him.
2
Pete_maravich Apr 21, 2026 +2
I don't like her music either. Who gives a c***
2
34shadow1 Apr 21, 2026 +2
My whole gripe is not with Taylor herself or her music lyrically. I just don't like pop music so I don't listen to it. But I will say that like any fanbase some take things way too far, she just has a very large fanbase so the vocal (crazy) ones are alot more plentiful than other personalities may have.
2
tpeandjelly727 Apr 21, 2026 +2
Damn people can dislike things, even Taylor knows her music isn’t for everyone and accepts that. To be an artist in the industry is to understand that you’re never going to necessarily appeal to everyone and all demographics. Maybe we should dm him and ask what music does he like? Now I’m curious. I feel like he would enjoy rap/hip hop. lol
2
Babebutters Apr 21, 2026 +2
I once stated on Facebook that her music was boring and I got a three paragraph lecture from some b**** (who claimed not to be a Swiftie) about how there was a special place in hell for women that don’t support other women.
2
Aye_Surely Apr 21, 2026 +2
Aye but it’s just run of the mill pop music.
2
Secret_Ebony Apr 22, 2026 +2

2
