Journey co-founder Jonathan Cain admits to lying about Steve Perry's interest in reuniting for their farewell tour: 'I was trying to fish a little bit'
Jonathan Cain is not a co-founder. He was brought in after Gregg Rolie, the actual co-founder retired.

I met Gregg at a party in the mid-90's, he was really bitter about the whole thing so I don't know that "retired" is the right word...
Edit: however I see the Wiki entry says it was amicable so I may have hit him on a bad day.

Yeah back then he called it retiring from the road if I recall. He was done touring. He took some time off, did a couple of solos and then jointed the Storm. That's when I met him too. But I've also heard that him and Perry didn't really get along. That whole band has been a drama fest for decades.

Pretty much the holy trinity of rock drama refugee camps is Fleetwood Mac, Yes, and Journey.

Maybe I just haven't read the right things, but I had no idea that Yes was in that category. Fleetwood Mac - that's one's obvious as is all the stuff with Journey. But Yes? Please tell me more.

They had both members of the Buggles (Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes) after Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman left in 1979. Horn would continue producing for them later on, and Downes rejoined the band in 2011 and has been with them since. (After the band first split in 1981, Downes and guitarist Steve Howe would form Asia alongside ex-King Crimson bass/vocalist John Wetton and ex-ELP drummer Carl Palmer.)
Their 1982 reunion started when Trevor Rabin (these days more well known for scoring films) decided to team up with Chris Squire and Alan White for a project called Cinema. Then they also recruited former Yes keyboardist Tony Kaye, and then after realizing that the band at that point was mostly Yes alumni decided to turn it into a new Yes lineup and recruited Jon Anderson.

They've had more personnel shifts than we've all had changes of underpants since birth, and the contentiousness of the relationships between almost all of them (or the various camps) over the years is a minotaur maze of weird passive-aggressiveness.
u/counterfitster pointed out the worst one here: [https://www.listnook.com/r/Music/comments/1s8ziw0/comment/odlxfad/](https://www.listnook.com/r/Music/comments/1s8ziw0/comment/odlxfad/)
...but there is almost no docile period of the band. Even during their most successful years and stable lineups, the group was a stormy argumentative proposition. Bruford has stated "See, the problem with bands like Yes has been overconsumption of resources, greed on the one hand and indolence on the other,"

They've had issues but mostly in the rolling stones way of butting heads between the two main dudes. They have not had endless lineup changes and an origami of crises folded onto itself like the three above.

Cain is a scummy dispensationalist weirdo married to an evangelical dispensationalist grifter. Bring back Rolie and Perry for a last go and call it a day.

Man, you’re not kidding. 12-year-old-raised-Catholic me got invited by a friend to their Pentecostal service, and that was wild. People rolling in the floor, speaking in tongues, etc. All I knew was stand up, sit down, kneel, communion…very orderly and regimented.

If you've ever seen one of her "sermons", you get the same vibe as a very belligerently committed salesman from Amway, or Tony Robbins on his 8th rail of coke.

I was eating in a mall food court on a weekday afternoon 20 years ago. A number of guys in their 40’s and 50’s with mullets came in and set up a keyboard and PA system. It was. Jonathan Cain doing a promotion for a new-age solo album he had put out. No one was paying any attention to him. It was pretty sad actually.

He already sold his publishing. Unless he is a horrible investor he can live off interest.
That being said, Perry would help with ticket sales. So would other former members, somewhat. But former lawsuits probably burned that bridge.

I love the fact that Perry knows, admits and is okay with the fact that he can’t do it anymore instead of trying to pull an Axl Rose, Vince Neil or DLR and go out there sounding like absolute garbage for a buck or two.
Perry will always be the voice of Journey. I know he wasn’t the first or last, but anyone thinking of Journey hears Steve Perry singing. He was one of the greats… and will remain so.
