That’s not really comparable.
You could probably sue a preschool for letting someone unauthorised pick up your child, especially if anything happened to the child. When you’re agreeing to demolish a building, especially a historical building of national significance, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect the company to check they were actually authorised to demolish it first.

Doesn't the White House have a Protected Landmark status or something similar? Would it thus require a permit issued by the right person to be torn down? Isn't it the duty of a contractor to verify all required permits are in order before doing any work? If tearing down the East wing was illegal isn't this contractor liable for the damage because he failed to have a valid permit for the work he did?
If so start suing him immediately. Even if it would ultimately be unsuccessful he will think twice before doing any additional and possibly illegal work he may later be required to repair/undo. This will also scare away any other contractor for the time being.

I've mentioned this a few times on this site in relation to the East Wing's demolition, and for some reason it never gets any traction *(edit: looks like it got some traction this time!)*, but I stand by it: that Trump ordered this done at all is an insult to the nation and shows his clear contempt for it. But I'm almost more pissed off that somebody had to sit in the cabs of those excavators and actually do the demolition. I don't know how they live with themselves, and I'm glad I can't wrap my head around it. They didn't have to do it. It's not like Trump drove the equipment himself.

My guess: He knows that the "Trump" he added to the signage will take no effort to remove the second he leaves office, so the entire purpose of the renovation is to fully Trumpify the building in a more permanent way. I firmly believe we need to make an example of the construction companies who did the demolition, especially the owners. Like, absolutely destroy them financially. Trump doesn’t have his own excavators, so this can’t happen again if the contractors are scared to act without all the legally required pre-approvals in place.

He attempted a violent coup of the government and we rewarded him with a second presidency. He was impeached *twice* for betraying America, and we rewarded him with a second presidency. He's a 34 count felon that avoided jail time because... we rewarded him with a second presidency.

They definitely couldn't break student loan collection. The actual collection is handled by private companies, so it's not a matter of the government simply trashing their own records. They would have to mess with private company records, and a court would stop that before it could happen.
They could break the genocide in Gaza if they wanted to go to war with Israel, but I don't think that would be a good thing.

Didn't Trump just demonstrate how far you can get with simple extortion?
Let's say America told Israel that it would never get a single cent again from the US, and that any American military exports would be completely prohibited, and that America would never again use its veto powers in the UN Security Council to do Israel a favor, and that America would instead spend all the billions it previously gave to Israel to lobby in favor of enforcement of international law against Israel whenever Israel was found in violation - do you think Israel would take that into consideration?

No. They'd just wait until the next president came along and reversed all of those policies, making all of those "never" threats hilariously dumb. Meanwhile, they'd keep oppressing Gaza. They have enough of their own resources to do it on their own without US support.

Took them almost a year to declare his tariffs illegal. He enacted those in April 2025, and they didn't declare them illegal until February 2026.
Took them 3 months to decide that he wasn't allowed to stop the funding for CPB. Of course, that comes months after CPB was forced to dissolve due to lack of funding. So even though 3 months is pretty f****** quick for this sort of thing, it's waaaaay too late.
That's always been his MO. Break stuff, ignore requirements and rules, tie up everyone in expensive and length court battles, and by the time the dust settles he got what he wanted anyway.

Took more than 4 years during trump's first term for the courts to work on whether trump running a hotel a few blocks from the WH where foreign governments handed him bags of cash was a violation of the Emoluments Clause.
After 4 years, with the case still in its early stages, the judge dismissed the case as moot once trump was no longer in office.
Now nobody even bothers to launch Emoluments cases and trump just takes in billion$ from around the world without any legal hassles whatsoever.

* POTUS demands a demolition crew come to white house on October 20th.
* They show up because "What an opportunity!"
* They ask to see drawings for what they should do, but Trump just tells them to "Tear it Down"
* They say they need permits and approval - Trump says "I AM THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES - I APPROVE IT - NOW DO IT!"
* They balk - but realize this potential boon could be a bane - If they don't do it POTUS could go after them and wreck their business... So they ask for some CYA document that keeps them from getting in trouble - and within a few minutes are given some memo with the POTUS Signature.
* Demolition begins.

To be fair, there was always a bunker under the East Wing. The PEOC wasn't a *West Wing* invention. It was a real place - they used it on 9/11. And Cheney whined about how old it was. Upgrading it, particularly with nuclear-resistant materials, was a matter of course and a matter of time. Any administration would have done it - why not?
But they didn't need to destroy the f****** East Wing *permanently* to do it.
Draw up a plan. Send it for independent approval. Transparent funds. Explain to the People why it's needed.
You know. Like a f****** *normal* President.

If it happens and there's no consequences then it was allowed, so it was allowed. And if you think Trump is going to experience consequences bully to you but I wouldn't hold my breath.

It's not a datacenter. It makes no sense to build a datacenter under the White House. It's a replacement for the PEOC which was built in the 1940s. And I doubt Trump much cares about that, he just wants his opulent ballroom in n top of it. I imagine the Secret Service and military are the ones dictating the new bunker.

I honestly have been wondering if he will kill a political opponent and get off scot free because of this. It may sound deranged, but what hasn't been absolutely deranged. He set up an assasination "attempt' on himself so he could pose for that picture.

Wow, pretty strong rebuke from the judge:
“I have concluded that the National Trust is likely to succeed on the merits because **no statute comes close to giving the President the authority he claims to have**,” Leon wrote. “As such, I must therefore GRANT the National Trust’s Motion for a Preliminary Injunction, and the ballroom construction project must stop until Congress authorizes its completion.”

It's not a data center. They're replacing the WWII era bunker. I'm sure the new bunker is much larger than the old, but it's definitely not a da ta center.
A data center needs hardware upgrades on an ongoing basis, plus massive power and cooling requirements. Why bury it under the White House? It doesn't need physical proximity to POTUS. It could be located on any main internet backbone line in the country. It could even be run out of multiple redundant facilities spread out across the country. There is zero reason to bury it under the White House. It makes more sense to have it anywhere else. The White House is likely a high target in a potential nuclear war, why give adversaries a 2-for-1 opportunity to take out POTUS and the government AI in one strike?
9/11 showed the necessity of having shelter nearby for the administration, while Dubya was in Florida that day, other members of his administration sheltered and worked in the now demolished PEOC. The new bunker is likely much larger and could house and allow the executive branch to function in anything short of a bunker buster or nuclear strike, and it would only take minutes to get POTUS and the cabinet there (faster than getting to Air Force One, which is the logical preferred action so long as there is time).
Drey is confident, well spoken, and I don't doubt that she has done research. But her conclusions are completely illogical. All the bunker needs is a secure Internet connection to access whatever government AI. The NSA's known facility for storing the mountains of data they intercept isn't under the Pentagon or under NSA headquarters, it's in a secure facility outside of Salt Lake City.

Side note: I really hate the _"Judge blocks X"_ headline style. It makes it sound like an activist judge just swooped in out nowhere and issued a ruling out of thin air.
In reality, the National Trust for Historic Preservation filed a lawsuit, presented evidence, and the judge determined they were highly likely to prevail. The plaintiffs did most of the work here — the judge just ruled on what was in front of them. The framing makes it sound like the judiciary forced its will on the people out of nowhere, when in reality this is the **people** asserting their rights against an out-of-control administration.
And before you say "it's implied", don't take anyone's legal knowledge for granted in 2026...

If Loser 47 says it had to happen for National Security reasons to build a Super-Bunker and communiications center, fine. The building is already down. Dig as big a hole as they need and put in the best, deepest, most super-duper bunker they can dream of down there. Leave off the gold (err, gold paint) trim. And the marble. And the Corinthian Columns. The bedrooms do not need mirrors on the ceilings or erotica on the walls. The toilets can be standard, thank you.
Once it's done....put a replica of the old East Wing on top of it. Right down to the artwork.
