>U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta ruled that evidence produced so far in the litigation brought by police officers and Democratic lawmakers indicated that Trump’s speech at the Ellipse that day was political in nature and not subject to the immunity the Supreme Court has found for a president’s official acts.
Lock him up.

Seriously, there's so many immune people that suing anyone and everything is the best thing to do against Trump.
Even if you get a dollar, that will live rent free in his head forever.

The Jan. 6-related civil suits by Democrats and cops to hold Trump liable for inciting the insurrection goes forward as Judge Mehta rules evidence such as Trumps Ellipse speech and the call to Raffensperger lacks immunity for official acts.

Read Judge Mehta's Memorandum Opinion linked in the article or use this: https://ecf.dcd.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/show_public_doc?2021cv0400-219
Trump tried to get himself declared immune from civil liability to those injured in the Jan 6 riot by claiming that the facts concerning whether his ellipse speech was official or personal are not in dispute and on the law he is immune. Judge Mehta is not having it.
Trump can appeal the order denying his motion for summary judgment. He certainly will, so there's a long way to go in this case. Trial will happen after the case comes back down from either the court of appeals or from the Supreme Court if it hears the case. Trump will likely be either ded or gone from the White House by the time the plaintiffs get anything, because Trump is certain to appeal after the trial as well.

Another important part of the ruling is the DOJ tried to substitute the United States as the defendant instead of Trump under the Westfall Act, but Mehta DENIED that so Trump remains the defendant.
But like you said this will likely be in Appeals for awhile, even before a trial.

The plaintiffs moved to strike the Westfall declaration made FOUR YEARS after the initial complaints were filed. The court granted the motion. Love that one!

At this rate, wouldn't surprise me if someone appealed on his behalf once he's dead.

His estate would continue the case since if he croaks his estate will be substituted for him as the defendant.
