F*** that whole settlement. They need to seize the company and it's assets, nationalize it, and criminally charge everyone that broke the law.

I don't have much hope for any real consequences. Saying that as a child of a parent who's life was basically ruined because of this drug.

I really don't understand why it's so difficult. Take everything they have. Put them in prison for life. Ban them from ever running a company again or profiting in any way. Tell them this is actually a far more civilized punishment than they deserve. This country acts like there's just no way to punish rich people if the punishment would limit their freedom or make them not rich anymore. It's not that hard. Take their money. Put them in prison. Other rich people will get a bit nervous. Good. They should be. Don't create suffering and death if they don't want to have the same fate.

> I really don't understand why it's so difficult. Because the US legal system does not exist to punish the wealthy but to protect them.

When most people understand this we might actually get somewhere.

>I really don't understand why it's so difficult. Two tier injustice system. White collar criminals always get away with it of they harmed the poors. Bernie Madoff went to prison because he fucked over rich people.

Need to seize all assets owned by the Sackler family as well. They're nothing more than a drug cartel and should be left penniless with everyone involved in the opioid crisis spending the rest of their lives in prison. This farce of a "punishment" will still leave them as multi-billionaires.

Another round of public service to send a stiff message?

Or maybe a strongly worded verbal warning

An apology letter writing campaign to keep their administrative assistants busy.

I'll believe corporations are people when Texas executes one.

I was thinking about this recently and I think sentencing a corporate executive to death would be a sure-fire way to overturn Citizens United.

Shit, I’d be somewhat pleased if they gave the corporation a death sentence that just meant complete dissolution of the company and blacklisting the executives from owning or operating another. Even that would be an improvement and a step in the right direction of treating corporations as people - theoretically, the corporation is a separate legal person from the legal persons that work for it the same way each executive is a separate legal person within the corporation, so that would have to be kept in mind too and may provide a decent legal argument in the right hands.

China. China does this.

NetZeroSun Apr 23, 2026 +16
Come on. This is the US. We have freedom here. As in rich and powerful are free from consequences.

Aazadan Apr 23, 2026 +6
That’s true in China too, but power there comes from government sector not private sector. Even billionaires get disappeared there for opposing the government.

The worst 10 companies in the US should be voted in and then the CEOs have to face off in a Hunger Games style deathmatch. You wouldn't want to be the CEO of one of those companies.

having met CEOs, its the board of directors and chairs you need to hunger games

Texas will only start executing corporations if they find a way to be black or have down syndrome.

$225 million is a joke. Due to their aggressive marketing of OxyContin. They developed a $$11 billion fortune.
43
SleepUseful3416 Apr 23, 2026 +11
And they can keep it and not face anything because the Sackler family… you guessed it.

finishing up the book "Empire of Pain" a must read insane and super insightful look at corruption in plain sight!!

And after the Sackler family pays their settlements, they'll be forced to live on less than $5 billion.

Funny how drug addiction was treated as a personal failing until white people got hooked on heroin

Mr_Waffles123 Apr 23, 2026 +4
I’m sure that was the reason….

the fact that victims have to fight just to *be in the room* for the sentencing of the company that destroyed their families is somehow the least surprising thing about this whole story.
4
shoulda-known-better Apr 23, 2026 +5
Yea when the profit is over 10 billion this is a bullshit fine they will laughing while paying.... F****** joke.... I would be so insulted if I was one of these victims that are going to speak

Kurise Apr 23, 2026 +3
Good ole pony show to pretend to stick to these mean corporations, when in reality, they made x100 the penalty they will receive and no one is punished. Government pretends to care because they get a cut. Shitty company continues as normal.

Kind-Philosopher5077 Apr 24, 2026 +2
Bullshit. They should've already been sentenced to public execution but won't see justice in America

This is still going on? Good god! I thought those blood-sucking bastards had all got their comeuppance. Btw, if you haven’t seen Dopesick, I’d highly recommend it.

Just need to postpone a few months so the last victims of this 20yrs saga can’t participate
