Just finished S2 of Ted Lasso… and wow, this show hits different and feels fresh

Posted by walterwhite756

After seeing some comment on another sub recommending Ted lasso, I thought giving it a watch expecting a light, feel-good comedy. Just finished S2, and honestly, it was worth it. This show balances humor with heavy themes. The first few episodes might not hook you instantly, but given some time it really grows on you in the best way. I didn’t binge watch this, and I think watching it slowly made it hit even harder, more like classic sitcoms where you actually sit with the characters. Also, the character development is just incredible. People I didn’t think I’d care much about in S1 ended up having some of the most compelling arcs here. And yeah… that finale was gooooood. If you’re on the fence about watching it, I’d say give it a shot. It’s funny, wholesome, and at times, unexpectedly deep. Would love to hear what others thought about Season 2 (be kind and no spoilers for S3)

Season 2 felt like a Trojan horse: you think it’s a goofy soccer show, suddenly you’re crying about dads and therapy. Optional upgrade: rewatch “Beard After Hours” standalone.

There's a lot to like with Bill Lawrence's stuff (Shrinking, Scrubs, etc.). But you do have to get over the hurdle of just how f****** WET they ALWAYS are. It's always about wealthy, successful adults who are way too old to constantly be obsessed with their feelings. While jangly, emotive emo indie music plays.

Man I watched this with my girlfriend last year and we both got so attached to Rebecca's storyline. The way they handled her divorce recovery felt really authentic, not just surface level stuff Season 2 definitely takes its time building up characters but that's what makes it work so well. Roy's journey from player to coach was probably my favorite arc - didn't expect to care about him that much in beginning but by end of season he became one of most interesting characters You're right about watching it slowly too, this isn't really show you should rush through. Need time to process some of those heavier episodes

It's great you found something you enjoy in this over saturated media environment, but I found Ted Lasso to be a bit twee, I was bored during season 2 and ultimately gave up on it.

"Fresh"??   I'm not hating on anyone for liking Ted Lasso, to each their own, but calling one of the most milktoast safe show fresh is insane

I think Ted Lasso’s critical success is evidence of a mass psychosis throughout Covid and will be judged harshly by history lol

The only person I ever heard rave about it was the super religious church girl from my old high school via instagram stories

I love it but I think it’s easier to appreciate it more if you also like football and its English culture as there’s a lot of inside jokes people not familiar with English football will not get
