usually dinner times can be rough in my house since the kids are becoming picky eaters but tonight, everyone cleaned their plates and asked for more! legit made me feel like a champion! then i got to remembering that i used to be a picky eater. crazy how things go, yeah?
what are some foods you all refuse to eat? for me, anything with cauliflower is an immediate no. dont shame me lol
Mushrooms. It's a texture thing mostly. Plus they taste like dirt to me. No matter how they're cooked. I just can't. So gross.

My husband & BIL tell people they’re allergic to them (they’re not; just mentally allergic), because it’s no questions asked. Because I guess when you’re an adult guest you’re supposed to not be picky.

I love cauliflower. Please send it my way. However, you can take all the liver my grandmother ever tried to serve me.

Just make sure the liver has onions with it pls 🙏

It always does. I never developed a taste for it, but I love livermush, which is a very regional dish.

If you make it, let me know. Because it is labor-intensive. My grandmother’s neighbor used to make it and that was an all day job.

3
terri061655Mar 31, 2026

Its not the taste that gets me, its the texture. My husband loved it boiled. He would just slurp it off the stem. I've tried the fried stuff many times, but the stringy stuff gets me every time!
2
LeFreekeApr 1, 2026

I get that. I don’t care for them boiled - I like the flavor but texture gets me.
I find the fried ones are not slimy/stringy.

Nice! I always loved that feeling!
The best compliment that I ever had on my cooking was in July of 2000. My neighbour’s daughter in law came over and asked me to make my shepherd’s pie. My neighbour was actively dying, and one of the things that she wanted before she passed away was my shepherd’s pie. She was a war bride, and she said that mine reminded her of her mother’s.
For refuse to eat? Coconut because I am allergic.

So what did you make?
I hate green peppers. Everything anywhere near them tastes like green peppers. I can tolerate picking off cooked ones (although I would rather not have to) but on a salad... They ruin the whole thing.
I'm not a fan of shrimp.
Buffalo wings - I don't like how they taste. (Wings in general seem like a lot of messy effort for little reward.)
I'm not one for hots.
That green relish on Chicago dogs is an affront to nature.

I hate beets… water chestnuts ruin every dish they’re in… truffles are the worst. Those are probably my top foods I can’t stand.
2

I HATE beets! That is one food I refuse to eat. I can't even stand the smell. My mom told me she used to try and feed me beet baby food when I was a baby, and I would gag and refuse it. I was born hating beets, apparently.

I think I could handle if they tasted only like dirt, even though you are right, they do, but they taste like rotten dirt!! My whole family likes them, and I'm over here like "What is WRONG with y'all?"

I am confused. Barbecued chicken and fried chicken are two different things. Do you mean you grilled it?
1
Imaginary_Face2204Mar 31, 2026

I fried it first and then I lathered BBQ sauce on it once it was done ✔️

Oh i like foods that mix pretty well, mac n cheese and salad though both go well with chicken if you cut it down and mix. Fries would be great too with that
My go to comfort food is some rice or fries with some beef and and some chopped veggies (lettuce and tomatoes) then some type of sauce or dressing i can pour all over and mix

Beets - ick. Talk about tasting like dirt. When I was a kid there was that cardio diet or whatever were you were supposed to eat a certain amount of beets and I would hold my nose and try to eat those pickled beets and I just couldn’t get it down.
