government literally cut funding to NASA while Artemis was approaching the moon.

The executive branch does not set the budget. Congress does.

Someone should explain that to congress then.

Tonaia Apr 11, 2026 +4
Considering congress rejected a similar cut last year, I think they are aware.

I had the Orion Livestream on one of my monitors the entire time.  Now Flerfers are spouting off about how it was all a giant hoax that accomplished absolutely nothing.

could you explain why they made history? I'm not against space exploration, but from what little i gathered this mission was just flying around the moon and back, while in the past we actually landed on it. So what's so important about this? (Genuine question, not being sarcastic)

It was a higher orbit than Apollo so these astronauts hold the title of 'people who have been farthest from earth'.

what we can achieve when humanity focuses on the right things.

Completely agree. America could be headlining in every aspect of science yet here we are putting all our resources into killing each other.

meanwhile the US just spent about 10x what we'd need to pay for college for the entire country over a month's time while losing a pointless war.

I’m old and it’s extremely difficult to get excited about a live splashdown when we used to watch them live in elementary school, on a black and white tv rolled in on a cart (with rabbit ears).

Good news, I actually thought under Trump's watch it would end in disaster. Well done America

Luckily NASA still runs by actual experts and not celebrity idiots like the government...

Head of NASA was put in by Trump in December...

Issacman is a giant human exploration fanboy, and has been to space before as well. I'm not particularly worried about him messing things up.

I meant the actual people, the astronauts and engineers who make it happen, not administration of NASA.

Far that was quick, around the moon in 10 days, thought it takes months. What about Mars next?
1
ThunderChaser Apr 11, 2026 +11
It takes around 3-4 days to reach the moon. It takes around 6-7 months to reach Mars.

Wow, they almost did that thing that they did 60 years ago.
