Thought of this.. we live on a tiny blue ball suspended in space connected to the sun by gravity. Meanwhile the earth is spinning at 1000mph. Earth is going around the sun at 67,000mph. Earth is part of the milky way galaxy traveling through space at 1.3 million miles per hour. The only thing not moving are people on earth who suck.

Hahahaha, I agree people do suck! You did talk about some fascinating things about our universe, which I’ve been into recently and realising the fact how small like literally how tiny we humans are yet we still come and say things that are very egotistic, I think when we look into the universe we do end up finding ourselves small and maybe less egotistic. But still the idea of our existence, and everything around earth being so perfect to give us life is weird.

What philosophical ideas are you fond of? I'm familiar with the ideas around stoicism and christianity but I'm looking for something new to learn about. Got any recommendations?

That's interesting. I've come across Stoicism too! There are different ways to look at meaning. One perspective is nihilism, which holds that life has no inherent meaning or purpose. Another is existentialism, which starts from a similar place but argues that meaning is something you create for yourself. On the other side, there are arguments for the existence of God like the idea that the order in the universe points to a designer, or that objective morality requires a moral lawgiver. Curious if you've explored any of these. Also, do you ever look into social sciences?

A philosophy i ddnt discover till college is Taoism. Its similar to nihilism in the way that it says there's no purpose, but like in a good way, like relax, theres no goal to reach, nothing youre missing out on, nothing you need to fix, haha. It also doesnt have a god but holds that theres an inherent natural order in the universe, but its not controlled by anyone and no one is above or below another, theres no hierchy or creator. Morality is a also big question in it as well, since it says there is no 'right' or 'wrong', there just is. Theres a lot of debates on its takes about murder, etc, im not knowledgeable to explain the Taoist view on "bad" things but you get the jist. But yea could be another cool one to look into!

Hey, your hobbies are solid. Dancing, journaling, cooking? Sounds like you’ve got a creative streak. What’s your latest kitchen experiment?

Maryam1564 Apr 1, 2026 +2
Thanks! Never heard anyone saying my hobbies are creative. Well I haven't been cooking much lately, but I did experiment with making chocolate using cocoa powder. It was fun trying to get the texture and sweetness right. Still figuring it out! Also a chocolate mug cake it turned out to be nice. Recently tried making a wrap which was so delicious. OMG I kind of miss cooking. I started making food just for myself because I love having good food, and I really enjoy that me time the process of making it, it’s so fun. Have you ever tried experimenting with your food?

Maryam1564 Apr 1, 2026 +2
Idk what it count as in currently in o levels so you can say 10th or 11th! Yes omg I do I have sociology, I really really wanted to take global perspective but I’m a private candidate so for one paper you have to do a group project for that I don’t have any other Cambridge candidates due to which it’s not possible. However, I have two other options first is to travel and tourism on second environmental management I find environmental management more interesting but it’s harder than travel and tourism and I don’t wanna take a hard subject but still I’m interested in it. I’ll see what I’ll be choosing. Also, I love love sociology like it’s one of my favourites. I also have business which I find interesting

Hi, I’m also trying not to unduly stress over my engineering exams haha. I suck at cooking but I still love trying new food whenever I can. So I just have to ask, what’s the weirdest dish you’ve ever tried to prepare?

Maryam1564 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Hello,I wish you all the luck that you do great on the exam. Trying new food is always fun! Hmm I don’t think I ever prepared any weird dishes.

Blazer913 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Thanks, I’ll scrape by. And you should definitely dare to fail spectacularly at some exotic dish, just for fun. What do you usually cook?

I do really hope you do great, and I will definitely. Well recently I’ve stopped due to academic but kinda miss it tho like the process of making something good for yourself spending that me time and then having it , it’s fun uhhhh i miss

I stopped reading, playing Tennis and doing other enjoyable activities because of my academics too, but I realize now that’s based on a false pretense. We have to make time for things we enjoy deliberately, kind of how we’re making time to chat on this thread 🤷‍♂️

100 percent relatable I stopped meditating I stopped hanging out with friends and I stopped dancing and I honestly also feel academically stuck for the past 2 year got c’s and d’s have to give retake for two exams and the part that scares not enjoying my teens fully because I’ll never get this time back and be able spent time with family

Good news is if you’re in hs still you’ve still got lots of time, so don’t be scared! Just make conscious decisions every day and block out stretches of time strictly for your activities, like you would for fixed meetings. You will likely even find that the balance between work and play actually helps your academic performance because you aren’t operating from a chronically high-cortisol, isolated and cognitively saturated state all the time. I definitely relate to the family worry, I read somewhere that once you’ve turned 18 you’ve spent 80% of all the time you’ll ever spend with your parents.

You have a combination of all these interests, this really means you fit the bill as someone who enjoys knowing and understanding life thoroughly rather than just living through it. Let's transform this into something interesting 🙂 You said philosophy, so I'll put a topic out \-Do you believe people are more influenced by their environment or themselves? Also, I'm wondering this. What kinds of things do you like to write in your journal? What sort of dance is your favorite? As a dancer We can go deep, light or sort of in between - suit yourself.

Well, for the first question people are more influenced by their environment in my opinion. This takes us to the nature and nurture debate. This is a very interesting topic. I also made assignment on it. So nature is basically the things you are born with your genetics your instincts and everything and nurture is basically what you learned from the environment. There was a study done on feral children. Feral children are basically children that have no social contact. They have not been properly introduced to human contact and they don’t behave like because they have not learnt the social rules and social norms. There is a girl named genie she was locked in at home for 13 years without any proper human contact she was fed in that room and her father used to abuse her if she made any noise. When she was found, she couldn’t even properly walk she was doing a bunny like walk she didn’t know any word she looked like she had no emotions. If you look into a story, it’s very sad and also interesting. This is also I think for genders as well society usually teaches a woman to take care of the household and meant to be the leader so they even introduce toys that even show their gender roles for example a girl would have a Barbie house. And a boy would have some construction tools cars. So what I believe is people are more influenced by the society and surrounding rather than themselves of course there’s a factor of themselves but that factor is also formed by society and the surrounding because if you look into the story of genie, she didn’t have any personality. I absolutely love ballet dance I really admire it. I’ve recently started doing some Kathak I absolutely love kathak, my favourite is kathak and any traditional dance!

Hello! I'm also a high school student. Journalism seems like a pretty nice hobby to add to my random to-do list. So, as someone who has been inspired by your interesting hobby, could you tell me what got you into it, and how you go about it, as a high schooler?(I'm taking notes :)

Maryam1564 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Well my therapist recommended me to write my thoughts while I’m stressed. It really helped me a lot . I sometimes write about my days and my feelings. What do you write?

Jolly-Reference4819 Apr 1, 2026 +1
I write random plots I form in my head, or any interesting life experience I could turn into a story
