Hard to feel bad for the NFL here. They’ve milked fans with blackout rules and ridiculous streaming bundles for years. Honestly, best move is cancel Sunday Ticket for a season and hit their numbers.

This is so comically wrong. There’s a full Wikipedia page on Trump’s feud with the NFL. He feels spited because the entire NFL hates him and won’t give him a team. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump_and_American_football?wprov=sfti1#

I can see his uniforms, it would have the same colors as his jet, but the helmets would have his hair style painted on top The ultimate comb over

The timeline if he bought the bills would be glorious

I guarantee he would have changed us to the Buffalo Trumps 🤦‍♀️

deadline_zombie Apr 10, 2026 +2
I can't picture him having his name second. On the Kennedy Center he had his name placed first. So I can see the team being called the Trump Buffalo no matter how stupid it is.

Or the Buffalo Billionaires xD

Kaffe-Mumriken Apr 10, 2026 +37
Yeah I’m kinda amazed with the hyper capitalist admin they would run afoul of
37
SloaneKettering1 Apr 10, 2026 +87
It’s because the nfl tv rights deal is up soon and Ellison (trumps buddy who owns CBS) and Murdoch (trumps buddy who owns Fox) wants them to get the rights for cheaper. This has nothing to do with protecting the average consumer

TheGringoDingo Apr 10, 2026 +33
I’m sure he doesn’t mind a dig at the NFL since they wouldn’t let him buy a team

snowflake37wao Apr 10, 2026 +1
that and they didnt do enough to silence all the boos every time he goes to a stadium. why dont they have control over their people what kina org is this!¿
1
RandomFactUser Apr 10, 2026 +4
Except the NFL attempts to protect the value of their TV deals by making ST work like that
4
elciano1 Apr 10, 2026 +13
The admin wont solve it for you. They want a cut lol

Because sports entertainment is how the masses remain sedated.

idkwhatimbrewin Apr 10, 2026 +2
I'm sure it has something to do with trying to name the new commanders stadium after him

Akbeardman Apr 10, 2026 +1
The NFL didn't let Trump into their club in the 80s with the usfl merge he wanted. He still holds a grudge. Watch the 30 for 30 "who killed the usfl"
1
Fallouttgrrl Apr 10, 2026 -2
You know it's bad when even Trump is like "C'mon now, for real?"
-2
FrostyMittenJob Apr 10, 2026 +29
It's a play to extort money from the owners. There is zero altruistic from this administration.

12

This is all because the NFL owners have always hated Trump and wouldn't let him buy a football team.

Maybe it's harder for long distance fans, but as a fan of my local team, I watch every game over the air for free. Don't know any other sport that can match that.
2
RandomFactUser Apr 10, 2026 +1
They already got their money from Google Also the blackout rules protect local TV stations that air those games for free
1
wstx3434 Apr 10, 2026 +1
I hate blackouts. The Cowboys are one thing, but l live 3 hours from Dallas and San Antonio and my area is apparently owned by the Mavericks. I tried to buy the NBA league pass for the Spurs and couldn't due to blackout rules. I would essentially have to live out of state unless I was closer to San Antonio to get games on Fox Sports.

>The Justice Department investigation is into antitrust and anticompetitive tactics, the person said. It comes after Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights, wrote a letter last month requesting a review of the NFL's streaming platform exemptions and wanted to know whether the streaming package fees violated the Sports Broadcasting act. [I wonder what it would take to get rid of this investigation, no questions asked.](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46892115/trump-wants-commanders-stadium-named-him)

Soooo Trump is doing a shake down of the NFL now?
41
Unhappy_Waltz5834 Apr 10, 2026 +21
This is undeniably payback because they always blocked him from ever becoming an owner.

14

He wants the Lombardi Trophy.
4

He wants the first and only Roger Goodell NFL Peace Prize and then he’ll call off the dogs
2
Alexis_J_M Apr 10, 2026 +10
They wouldn't let Trump become an owner in the 1980s because of his mob ties. He bought a USFL team, insisted on going head to head against the NFL instead of running a spring league, and bankrupted the USFL. This definitely feels like revenge, and I say this as a football fan bummed that I can't watch games like I used to.
10
Deranged40 Apr 10, 2026 +2
Really good effort making it sound like this isn't normal for him
2
dantheman0721 Apr 10, 2026 +2
Bingo. He got got shut out of being an NFL owner and lost a ton of money on USFL. His 2nd term has been one giant revenge tour.

Sorry the DOJ heard someone singing Spanish at the superbowl so NFL became priority #1.

lol...orange boy still bitter about the new jersey generals and his failed USFL. What an absolute loser.
14
Alexis_J_M Apr 10, 2026 +6
The USFL was doing fairly well before Trump got involved.
6
outsmartedagain Apr 10, 2026 +6
My issue with them is that they take tax dollars and then charge the folks that pay those dollars for admittance into their subsidized games.
6
Da_Stable_Genius Apr 10, 2026 +2
And also asking the taxpayers to pay for their stadiums.
2
kazejin05 Apr 10, 2026 +5
This isn't a "clock right twice a day moment" for the DOJ. This is a pressure tactic, because, surprisingly, the NFL hasn't bowed down to this admin. They didn't change the name of the Commanders back to their old name. They had two Super Bowl Halftime shows that have allowed their artists to send not-to-subtle digs at this admin. With an admin that jumps into every culture war possible to keep the MAGA base constantly enraged, or feeling under siege, or whatever, something like this was inevitable. Trust me, they don't give two f*cks about how expensive subscriptions are for customers. This is just low-hanging fruit to get the NFL into a courtroom, while they have backroom talks to gain more control over the League. And the NFL has no one to blame but itself for letting their greed make them this vulnerable.

Infamous-Sky-1874 Apr 10, 2026 +2
The Orange One's grievances with the NFL are not all recent. He's had a beef with them since they wouldn't let him start an NFL franchise all the way back in the 80's.
2
kazejin05 Apr 10, 2026 +1
Yep. That too. Wasn't sure about the exact specifics, so I didn't include as an example. But this level of pettiness is exactly up his alley, which is why I believe there's absolutely nothing altruistic about this move at all.

Justice department no longer exists.  Most of it is just orange babys personal grudge machine. The rest of it is just trying to destroy as much as they can, like the rest of the administration.

I got fed up this last season because you need Amazon, Netflix, Peacock and whatever else. Give it a break NFL! When is it enough?
3
Encorhynchus Apr 10, 2026 +3
I TRIED to pay to stream, and got NFL+ for $100. Then I found out that I could not watch my team because I was in the market. Then I went traveling over seas and found out I couldn’t even watch replays and had to buy a whole different service. It’s all designed to be terrible
3
EntertainmentFit3288 Apr 10, 2026 +4
Sounds like some payback for Rooney rule stance
4
fullmoon63 Apr 10, 2026 +1
I don’t mind paying… I mind paying multiple times for the same league.
1
gargolito Apr 10, 2026 +1
They need to get their cut.
1

Someone at the DOJ is a football fan and wants to meet people.
1
spoonybard326 Apr 10, 2026 +1
Given Trump’s history with the NFL this is a great example of doing the right thing for the wrong reason.
1
jebei Apr 10, 2026 +1
If you compare the NFL to every other US sports league, the cost to watch your hometown team is an incredible bargain. Every week four games are broadcast over the air for free and your local TV station gets to pick which game they're going to carry when multiple games are happening at once. It gets trickier when your team is on the other side of the country but for fans who grew up not being able to see their team, Sunday Ticket is a blessing. This has more to do about the endgame of the streaming/cable wars than it does about the NFL. Everyone wants to use the NFL to drive out their competition and the NFL is happy to be used for a price. The real problem is going to happen when the dust settles and customers feel the pain as the monopolistic power of the remaining 'cable' companies is unleashed.

Werd_up_cuz Apr 10, 2026 +1
Trump’s Justice Department is like, Epstein? No. NFL? Yes. Where’s that Drake meme when you need it?
1
BigL90 Apr 10, 2026 +1
Right wing media conglomerates using Trump's axe to grind against the NFL to enrich themselves. Color me surprised... The NFL may suck, the motivations here are pretty f****** obvious.
1
shockwave_supernova Apr 10, 2026 +1
So any day now the NFL will make a huge donation to Trump and this will all go away
1

Now that's what I call a distraction.

Just another shake down by a senile ork
0
Block_Solid Apr 10, 2026
It's just a shakedown. They'll pay one of Trump's companies a few hundred million and that'll be the end of it.
0
annaleigh13 Apr 10, 2026
I'm waiting for the donation to the Trump Library, or the ballroom from the NFL or its affiliate, and this case to disappear
0
dontrike Apr 10, 2026
And you know they're not actually looking into this because it's a legitimate problem, it's because Trump needs another distraction and he's upset that his football dreams never took off.

Good.  Two years ago they had major issues on Roku.  I contacted them and they asked me around 18 questions, but then admitted they were aware of the issue.  But, they blamed it on Roku.  It was during playoff time so I was extra annoyed and asked for a refund for the month, even though I didn't think I should have to ask at that point.  They refused.  I explained that I would never be a customer again.  They refused again.  Said it was against their policy.
