If ever a group of people deserved sepsis. Sherman didn’t do enough.

Sherman was hamstrung by incompetence with in the government even back then. "Let's heal as a nation" only occurs when the skin tone is as white as a puffy cloud.

Different times: On February 19, Sherman's funeral service was held at his home, followed by a military procession. Joseph E. Johnston, the Confederate officer who had commanded the resistance to Sherman's troops in Georgia and the Carolinas, served as a pallbearer in New York City. It was a bitterly cold day and a friend of Johnston, fearing that the general might become ill, asked him to put on his hat. Johnston replied: "If I were in [Sherman's] place, and he were standing in mine, he would not put on his hat." Johnston did catch a serious cold and died one month later of pneumonia

That was the original idea. He was going to give "40 acres and a mule" to every black family to have as their own, taken from the former slaveowners. Unfortunately Andrew Johnson overruled him, and well, here we are now.

This. I've been telling people about this since around 1986 when it actually happened to me! Got drunk with a bunch of Republicans and all of a sudden they were talking about undesirables and the Jewish bankers running everything. The entire Republican Party has always been a soft front for the Southern Confederacy, eugenicists, and neo-Nazis. Unfortunately, the mainstream media has spent a century or so denying this because their owners want to be taxed less and have no regulation. So we get media stories about false balance and how 10 trans people are ruining sports and private bathrooms while the machinations of the enemies of the state are soft-peddled as "overzealous staffers" and other nonsense.

That isn’t the intended goal here, it has nothing to do with “helping” rural communities. Most of them are in favor of massive corporate farming conglomerates, and are totally fine leveraging migrant populations to do the grunt work, legal or otherwise. The point is to force all students into a voucher-style private school system run by for-profit institutions (and the eventually get rid of the vouchers once public education disappears, because that would be welfare).
76
CharcoalGreyWolf 4 days ago +32
They also won’t mind when the rural farmers that remain have to sell to agribusiness. Farmers likely will pay for how they voted yet again, and the ones that do will still be standing there wondering why it happened.

79
sugartrouts 4 days ago +57
It *is* a conflict of interest, which is why Biden initially said he wouldn't do it. Then he lost to Trump who did it a billion times, while bragging about how he was gonna do it more, and decided f*** it.
57
Some_Drummer_Guy 4 days ago +37
He mainly did it to shield his son from the inevitable (and baseless) retribution that Commander Yam T*** wanted to carry out against him. If I recall correctly, it was basically a blanket pardon of sorts for people that were "targets" of the orange buffoon. Like a "hey, you can't touch me" thing. Hunter, Fauci, and several other people that were going to be persecuted got them.
37
Competitive_Boat106 4 days ago +30
And after Trump promised to prosecute Hunter much more in his second term. Whether you are a Hunter Biden fan or not, the crime that he was convicted of is almost never prosecuted in this country, and certainly not to that extent. Trump was vowing to do so much more to him. I would prefer that no president should be able to pardon family, but Biden saw the writing on the wall and wanted some semblance of peace for his family when he retired. You can see he was right, sadly. Him pardoning his son is more a reflection of what Trump wanted to do with the power of the presidency than it was of Biden’s use of the same.

Trump has their trust, and I've listened to many interviews of folks saying this pain is patriotic and surely necessary for some classified reason. It's a level of deference NEVER afforded to a Democrat, and even when Democrats offer an explanation, it's met with near-infinite mistrust. And, reliably, when no real change occurs and no relief is given to these folks whose meager living standard is getting royally rocked -- again for some unknowable reason -- some supporters will say "Enough is enough" and others, seeing the defections, will double down out of what to me just seems like contrarianism. But the defections will be enough to knock Republicans out of power yet again, until Trump, like Reagan, is spun into legend.

Why idgaf about rightwingers pretending they care so much about immigration because they just care about following the law so much. They’ll support people who literally committed sedition against the federal government but then also support deporting people with no criminal records and that have lived in the US for decades. If we’re all just picking and choosing which laws should be followed and which ones don’t matter then I can form my own opinions using the same metrics too.
3128

[We literally pulled back from investigating human trafficking and child sex abuse to further focus only on immigration!](https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/sep/17/trump-human-trafficking-programs-cut) >At DHS, Trump has ordered agents formerly dedicated to investigating and arresting human traffickers to focus on deporting immigrants. Current and former DHS staffers interviewed by the Guardian confirmed that these investigators’ day-to-day work has been broadly shifted toward deportations and away from investigating “major crimes” with “real victims”. I don’t ever want to hear republicans claim to care about: crime, children, or families ever again when they’ve shown repeatedly what their real concerns are.

They've actually already been released from prison - that happened when the Trump mass pardon commuted their sentences. (Reduced them to time served, granting their release.)  Not all of them were covered under the pardon though - this filing is to *vacate* their sentences. This means erase the felony convictions, like they were never there. *(There are quite a few advantages to that, but one that stands out would be firearm access.)*  Just an absolute horror show.

But the Pope is a “woke liberal” who “likes crime”. Right Don? Not you! We’re safer than anyone’s seen before!

I’m sorry y’all, but this is a harbinger of the end of things for USA. If those guys, the most violent ones, get a pardon, they’ll see it as a mandate to pick up where they left off. If the government not only tolerates it but *is complicit,* we are cooked. (We were probably already cooked long ago but yeah.)

Last week I might have agreed. But Orban just lost the election in Hungary, the hyper conservative fascists, who built up an exceptional system of state controlled media and autocratic power, just lost. There is hope.

One thing that particularly infuriates me is that the government was not destined to do this. The people of the United States of America decide it should be this way in November 2024. We were oh so close to not going for it, but we did anyway.

and sadly, most people -- not just MAGA cultists -- don't care. like donald glover's "this is america" video, everyone's back to trends on social media and watching their favorite influencers do dumb shit and spreading misinformation on twitter. i guarantee you the average american citizen has no idea this even happened.

They changed the name of the Department of Defense to the Department of War. Why don't they just change the name of the Justice Department to the Injustice Department so they can at least stop pretending to be something it's not anymore.

Of course. THIS “Justice” Department’s job is defending and freeing criminals. You know. It’s as if Batman decided it was his goal to break everyone out of Arkham.

This was not a "physical confrontation between protesters and law enforcement" this was a *carefully planned and executed plot to break into a secured building, forcibly remove people from seats of power, halt a planned government proceeding, and disrupt the peaceful transfer of power.* **They talked about this shit in group chats for months.** **There is no stretch of the imagination in which this was not seditious conspiracy.** This country makes me feel like i'm insane.

> In court filings, prosecutors asked the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to vacate the convictions so that the government can permanently dismiss the indictments. This shit's so stupid and I hope the judge tells them no because Trump can just fully pardon them if he cares. Asking to have legitimately reached convictions thrown out makes a (further) mockery of the US legal system.
