Here we go. Trump will be back to selling classified documents in no time. No surprise his personal lawyer now runs the DOJ and this statement comes out.
1103
Beauty-Girly-66 Apr 2, 2026 +165
Atp, people don't trust anything coming out of DOJ and that's the real issue.
165
ShartingEnU Apr 3, 2026 +82
People don't trust anything this administration says. Every person that talks to cameras for this administration is lying their aaaes off
82
resgirlhikes Apr 3, 2026 +1
my mom believes everything OAN says...
1
Unlimited_Bacon Apr 3, 2026 +1
> People don't trust anything this administration says. The core 22% MAGA will believe everything Trump says, and wouldn't care if they learned that they were lies.
1
FrazzleMind Apr 3, 2026 +1
I believe Iranian officials statements over anything out of anyone in this afministration
1
VanCardboardbox Apr 2, 2026 +9
With regard to the courts [presumption of regularity](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presumption_of_regularity) for the DOJ is gone. This will impact future admins.
9
f8Negative Apr 3, 2026 +9
Shred/burn more likely.

"Most transparent administration ever." F****** idiots.
2257
ennuiinmotion Apr 2, 2026 +305
In their minds they are. They’ll tell any of their friends or donors anything. The regular people don’t need to be included because we aren’t their constituents. We’re just the cogs that keep their luxury lifestyles running.
305
lundah Apr 2, 2026 +157
America is a luxury resort for about 400 billionaires, the rest of us are just staff.

NeverLookBothWays Apr 2, 2026 +66
We’re more like cattle really. The millionaires are the hired help.
66
biscuitarse Apr 2, 2026 +19
That's so goddamn spot on it brings a tear to your eye
19
Catspaw129 Apr 3, 2026 +11
As was learned to me:... 1. Love means never having to say you're sorry ('specially when you've not asked permission to do naughty things). 2. Transparency means sharing classified documents with your friends and business partners.
11
thegamenerd Apr 2, 2026 +30
They are pretty transparently Evil, so I guess technically correct. Just not in the way that they mean.
30
NotAnotherBlingBlop Apr 3, 2026 +19
Unfortunately they aren't idiots. The peons in the middle sure are, but not the ones actually in charge who are Curtis Yarvin and Peter Thiel. You don't dismantle an entire country in 1 year by being an idiot.
19
ThatPancreatitisGuy Apr 3, 2026 +16
Peter Thiel, the Antichrist? F****** moron. Don’t confuse wealth with intelligence. And Yarvin is a third-rate wannabe philosopher. Yes they’re goddamn idiots.
16
NotAnotherBlingBlop Apr 3, 2026 +1
Well if they're idiots then this country was built on even less stable of a structure than anyone ever thought if they were able to destroy it this quickly.
1
ThatPancreatitisGuy Apr 3, 2026 +1
They had very little to do with it in toto. There are many factors but one of the biggest is the bizarre cult like following Trump has among non-traditional voters. Without that they could accomplish very little. They’re not Machiavellian geniuses, they’re opportunistic cockroaches who got lucky.
1
NotAnotherBlingBlop Apr 3, 2026 +1
> they’re opportunistic cockroaches who got lucky. Hard disagree. They literally built a playbook on how the dismantle democracy. We knew about it. And they still completed it. The most dangerous thing you can do is write them off as stupid or harmless. Never underestimate evil intent.
1
ThatPancreatitisGuy Apr 3, 2026 +1
The blueprint the admin is following is Project 2025 developed by the Heritage Foundation more so than any of Thiel and Yarvin’s blathering nonsense. The ideas they do have aren’t really anything all that novel or that require any depth of intelligence. I do agree they shouldn’t be underestimated but not because they have any particular gifts intellectually.
1
2_Spicy_2_Impeach Apr 3, 2026 +9
More so the people who voted for him for a second and/or third time. The only thing we got wrong was how fast it was going to happen. I figured Iran would have been towards the end of his term or after midterms.
9
Consistent_Sail9251 Apr 3, 2026 +9
They’re transparent about f****** over the whole country so I guess they think that counts.

I thought the supreme court decided on constitutionality?
1
clueless_in_ny_or_nj Apr 3, 2026 +2
To be fair, they are the most transparently corrupt administration
2
eskimospy212 Apr 2, 2026 +1139
Important note: set your face to stunned.  The presidential records act is the reason republicans said Hillary’s Emails were bad.
1139
DiskSalt4643 Apr 2, 2026 +323
Pointing out inconsistency is the thing thats going to work to stop it this time I know it.
323
berfthegryphon Apr 2, 2026 +48
Clearly it's going to be a strongly worded letter and an OpEd in legacy media that's going to work
48
gostesven Apr 3, 2026 +12
Well, despite being in the minority in every branch of government the Democrats have managed to combat a lot of Trumps worst “decrees”. Everything from tariffs to deportations have been overturned en masse, dems just got massive concessions to reopen the government, and they’re winning virtually every special election.
12
berfthegryphon Apr 3, 2026 +2
It's easy when the courts are still independentish and everything they have tried to do has been blatantly illegal
2
eskimospy212 Apr 2, 2026 +20
What silly person would think that?
20
dancingwolpertings Apr 2, 2026 +14
Should we all just ignore the inconsistencies, then?
14
elconquistador1985 Apr 3, 2026 +14
We should stop acting shocked and acting like "imagine if a Democrat did this" even matters. Republicans' only consistent position is to oppose anything Democrats support. That's it. There's nothing deep. There's no logic involved. There will never be a "gotcha" that works.
14
dancingwolpertings Apr 3, 2026 +5
Oh, I’m not shocked at all. The hypocrisy is infuriating. I still think it’s worth keeping a record of it.
5
Ugly_socks Apr 2, 2026 +3
this made me chuckle.
3
MadContrabassoonist Apr 3, 2026 +1
Hypocrisy is not a bug of fascism, it’s a feature.  We can keep calling it out, as long as we understand we’re doing so to keep those already on our side engaged, rather than actually attempting to debate in good faith with the deplorables.
1
Mtshoes2 Apr 3, 2026 +3
Me too. I have written down all the inconsistencies in my journal *trap set* and now we wait.... Your move Republicans.
3
Melancholy_Rainbows Apr 2, 2026 +20
Sadly the hypocrisy won’t bother them. One of the key tenets of conservativism is that there are strict social hierarchies. Different rules for different people isn’t hypocritical to them, it’s natural and right.
20
ReverendFive Apr 2, 2026 +18
No, the reason they were bad is because Hillary was a democrat.
18
eskimospy212 Apr 2, 2026 +12
That was my point.
12
1877KlownsForKids Apr 3, 2026 +1
And a Republican is the reason for the Presidential Records Act
1
mediocre_remnants Apr 2, 2026 +410
That's not for them to decide. The Supreme Court decides. But now, what will happen is that POTUS shreds a bunch of docs, someone files a lawsuit, it makes it to the USSC, then the USSC says they can't shred the docs and the law actually is constitutional. And nobody will face any consequences.
410
CockBrother Apr 2, 2026 +105
Seems pretty clear to me. The Supreme Court said that official acts supersede all law. So shredding documents, destroying evidence, etc are all official acts. The Supreme Court has - kind of - already spoken on the matter.
105
mcmonky Apr 3, 2026 +15
This ruling coupled with pardon power (and a long list of other toxic shit like Citizens United) is catalytic irreversible oxidation of the democracy that I grew up with and trusted. I fear is that it’s too far gone after only a year+.
15
disparue Apr 2, 2026 +24
Doesn't shield anyone that isn't the President though.
24
MasterOfManyWorlds Apr 2, 2026 +25
His pardons do

f8Negative Apr 3, 2026 +4
It does if directed by presidential decree under their official duties.
4
pegar Apr 2, 2026 +9
Official acts deemed official by them are legal. It's not clear especially by the disgraceful justices working for Trump
9
Suspicious_Writer156 Apr 3, 2026 +1
You mean SCOTUS. USSC is not a thing.
1
noage Apr 2, 2026 +503
Trump doesn't see himself as a public servant
503

You could argue that mindset is exactly why situations like this keep happening.
149
duckinradar Apr 2, 2026 +22
You could argue that he has zero respect for any of the existing structure and is actively trying to replace it with something he likes much better
22

He feels his running his personal company
41
Poison_the_Phil Apr 2, 2026 +14
He’s running the country exactly like one of his businesses; into the ground
14
Newscast_Now Apr 2, 2026 +24
All those years priming the people by saying we want somebody from business because business people know how to run things helped bring us to this current situation.
24
OdiousAltRightBalrog Apr 2, 2026 +9
Well, yeah, he's running the country like he ran his casinos.
9
mister_buddha Apr 3, 2026 +3
They also ignore the fact W was an MBA
3
Amon7777 Apr 2, 2026 +8
Yes, and every American, every economic and military asset his to use, abuse, and dispose of as he pleases. This is the what it means to be ruled rather than governed. And in case you still think this is hyperbole, here is saying himself on camera he wishes he were a king. https://www.thedailybeast.com/white-house-scrambles-to-wipe-trump-easter-meltdown-supreme-court-justices-footage/

A few Republicans with spines could fix this. (And stop him from being a public servant)

wouldn’t that compromise their cash flow/job security?

There are none of those.

Do you mean MAKE him a public servant? As he should be..
6

I mean impeach and remove him.
18

He can still serve.... time

Poison_the_Phil Apr 2, 2026 +12
Trump sees the public as his servants*
12
peptic-horizon Apr 2, 2026 +3
He sees himself as what the public serves.
3
BigMax Apr 3, 2026 +2
Exactly. He sees himself as an Emperor of some kind, where everything and everyone is there to serve him. He's not there to serve anyone else.
2
localistand Apr 2, 2026 +103
So the Trump administration committed crimes related to the Presidential Records Act. Quite the tell by the Trump administration appointees heading the Justice department.
103
turdlepikle Apr 2, 2026 +22
If these media companies were responsible, the headlines would indicate "Trump Justice Department". It's no longer some independent branch of impartial public servants. When you read "Justice Department" you are supposed to think of them as a non-partisan group, but every position and statement like this is simply a "Trump" thing. This isn't the "Justice Department says the Presidential Act is unconstitutional" This is "Donald Trump and his appointed public servants say the Presidential Act is unconstitutional."
22
default_white_guy Apr 2, 2026 +4
We already knew that from Signalgate and one of Rubio’s many joke jobs being Chief Archivist. No need to read in between the lines of legal filings, it’s already out in the open
4
ChiliSama Apr 2, 2026 +44
The Justice Department doesn’t get to say what’s constitutional or not, and Trump still stole classified documents in 2021.
44
HankScorpio4242 Apr 2, 2026 +78
I’m sorry…what? Yes, Congress passed the legislation, but it was signed into law by President Jimmy Carter. That’s how this shit works.
78
palookaboy Apr 3, 2026 +1
That doesn’t preclude it from being unconstitutional, though? I don’t think it is, mind you, but that’s not why it isn’t.
1
discipleofchrist69 Apr 3, 2026 +1
you're correct yeah. but it's also not for them to decide. they can attempt to take it to the courts though
1
Vast-Butte-Futures Apr 2, 2026 +33
Great. This probably means they haven’t been keeping track of anything.
33
Gandalf-the-Gre Apr 2, 2026 +31
Actively hiding, more than likely. Remember, Hegseth was using signal chat to plan missions.

44

Come on now, we are only a failing state at this point.
6
phosdick Apr 2, 2026 +16
The depth of the DOJ's bullshit is truly mind boggling. They seem to be grasping at straws in trying to deflect from the Trump-Epstein files.
16
ianrl337 Apr 2, 2026 +12
I think their main gripe may not be classified information, but his phone. Legally those records aren't his and need to be documented. They are also a confession to many crimes he's probably done.
12
daemonescanem Apr 2, 2026 +11
The DOJ doesnt rule on whats unconstitutional, thats the judicial branch.
11
hackingdreams Apr 3, 2026 +9
The DOJ doesn't get to make that call. Since when does the Department of Justice think it's the Supreme Court? Also, why the *f**** does anyone believe the *Department of Justice* should have a say over whether the *Presidential Records Act* is constitutional? It looks like a cover-up, because it's a cover-up. They're trying to burn all the records to do with the Iran war and Putin's direction in real time, huh?
9
MagentaMist Apr 2, 2026 +8
What did he steal this time?
8
Routine_Bit_8184 Apr 2, 2026 +8
apparently so is investigating presidents that r*** children and traffic them to other rapists for decades.
8
IolausTelcontar Apr 3, 2026 +7
The DOJ doesn’t have the power to declare a law unconstitutional.
7
Fulano_MK1 Apr 3, 2026 +1
The DOJ ~~doesn't~~ *didn't* have the power to declare a law unconstitutional. The Supreme Court has and will capitulate on all checks against executive power. The Legislative Branch has ceded all its authority and powers to the executive branch. Until we can restore power to one of the two branches of government that has been shuttered, the executive branch has all power to do whatever it wants.
1
JiveChicken00 Apr 2, 2026 +7
The present Justice Department is unconstitutional.
7
utlayolisdi Apr 2, 2026 +6
Doesn’t matter what the DOJ thinks. Constitutionality is determined by the SCOUS.
6
lost-American-81 Apr 2, 2026 +6
They don’t get to make that determination.
6
Twicebakedpotatoe Apr 2, 2026 +7
How many documents are they going to destroy with zero consequences before a court rules on this?
7
DingerSinger2016 Apr 3, 2026 +3
Don't need to destroy documents if you aren't keeping them in the first place *points finger to head*
3
UselessInsight Apr 2, 2026 +4
Oh, so Donny wants to do even more crime with classified stuff. Got it.
4
I_dream_of Apr 3, 2026 +5
I don’t think they are supposed to interpret the constitution.
5
whereismymind86 Apr 3, 2026 +5
The justice department doesn’t get to decide what is and is not constitutional. They can go to a judge about that, but their opinion is irrelevant
5
Borne2Run Apr 3, 2026 +4
"It wasn't required before Watergate, therefore the act is illegal" F****** baffling.
4
Open_Mortgage_4645 Apr 3, 2026 +1
They're in no position to make such an assessment. They're not the judiciary. If they think they have a case, they need to file a case. They can't just declare that it's too hard to comply with a law that every president since Nixon has complied with.
1
onicut Apr 2, 2026 +3
It will soon be renamed to the Department of Injustice, to match the renaming of the Department of Defense. Trump lawyers will openly argue that the Constitution is unconstitutional.
3
Odaniel123 Apr 2, 2026 +4
They are certainly entitled to their opinion. They will be proven wrong, but they are entitled to their opinion
4
ctguy54 Apr 2, 2026 +2
Proven wrong and judged wrong are, unfortunately, two different things with the current supreme church.
2
DASynnthetik Apr 3, 2026 +4
Their job is to enforce the law. Congress makes the laws and the Judicial interprets the law, the DOJ does neither.
4
AlJameson64 Apr 3, 2026 +5
What's up with this sentence? "To change the law, the Justice Department would either have to file a lawsuit or \*compel Congress to change it\*." Exactly how can DOJ compel Congress to change a law?
5
Frodojj Apr 3, 2026 +4
Just a coincidence that the Attorney General, who is also the Librarian of Congress, who also previously defended Trump against violations of the Presidential Records Act in the court of law, which were improperly dismissed by Trump’s hand-picked judge, says the act is unconstitutional. Right…..
4
Automatic_Bus_7634 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Since when does the Justice department have any authority to decide the constitutionality of laws?
1
Additional_Quiet2600 Apr 2, 2026 +3
So every President can just yack every bit of intelligence they are privy to? Ya that's gonna work out in our best interests for sure. /s
3
Thrashosaurus_Wrecks Apr 2, 2026 +3
Okay, but I say it is constitutional. Both statements hold equal weight.
3

3
alyxandervision Apr 3, 2026 +3
Wasn't aware that the DOJ can determine which law is unconstitutional... They must be worried.
3
Agentkeenan78 Apr 3, 2026 +3
They are saying out loud that they're doing things that they're afraid of consequences for. They wish to operate in the shadows and without any prying eyes.
3
wsrs25 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Actually, this is DOJ tacitly admitting that Trump violated the Act when he stole the documents they found in the bathroom at his fleabag resort, which justifies at least some of the investigations he wants revenge for.
1
Carlyz37 Apr 3, 2026 +1
OMG Anything that starts with this Justice Dept says... is total unconstitutional and lying bogus bs Dems in Congress better find out what documents this administration is hiding RIGHT NOW
1

Department of Defense was renamed to Department of War. I imagine the Department of Justice will soon be renamed the Department of Corruption.

1

Of course. The constitution specifically states the President can do whatever he wants.
2
MJcorrieviewer Apr 2, 2026 +2
I wonder who gave the Justice Department that idea?!
2
jackboner724 Apr 2, 2026 +2
So what they are saying is Ronald Reagan violated the Constitution?
2
jared__ Apr 2, 2026 +2
they enforce laws, not judge them.... wtf
2
randomwords83 Apr 2, 2026 +2
Aren’t there emergency hearings that happen? You’d think this would be one of those times that a Supreme Court Judge figures out a way to stop whatever is happening quickly. Like what the f***.
2
MyFirstCarWasA_Vega Apr 2, 2026 +2
And all of his ‘secret’ unrecorded meetings at his private golf clubs every weekend have been what, a complete unknown? Hint: he hasn't been following the law for nearly a decade and now…..now, you are just catching on? No wonder he won.

Remember if you know a republican they are at fault for all of this. All of them. They deserve nothing but scorn
2

They're openly usurping one of the core responsibilities of the supreme court: determining the constitutionality of laws.
2

I'm sure the supreme court (what a stupid name) will back them up

Funny, I didn't realize the justice department is the Supreme Court now.
2

Paywall, gtfo
2
muffledvoice Apr 3, 2026 +2
The DOJ is trying to enable Trump to make incriminating documents disappear without repercussion. Such corruption.
2
redwing180 Apr 3, 2026 +2
Good news the administration is finally worried about what’s in the constitution! I guess from this point forward we can assume that they are going to follow it to the letter. /s
2
MathematicianNo7818 Apr 3, 2026 +2
Totally compromises their credibility and my confidence in the judicial branch . So sad. Trump is a blight on America who has contaminated the judicial branch with his narcissistic personality.
2
news_sponge Apr 3, 2026 +1
Luckily they aren’t the final arbiter
1
narrauko Apr 3, 2026 +1
Justice Dept just making its own court rulings now? That's not supposed to be how it works, but if the checks and balances keep refusing to check and balance I guess he'll get away with whatever.
1
blitz350 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Sooo.... we arrest these people now right? Like... impeach, arrest, convict, lock up, throw away key? Surely we are there.
1
TrailMikx Apr 3, 2026 +1
So all PDF files will be destroyed, including any paper, voice, electronic trail which ran through white house
1
havacanapana Apr 3, 2026 +1
I had civics in seventh grade. I can say without fear of correction that the Supreme court , not the department of justice determines what laws are unconstitutional.

Wtf is the presidential records act? Is this something new that Trump is trying to push? Or something old that he's trying to get rid of?

The president needn’t have to worry about laws from Congress. It’s an unnecessary burden to his majesty’s administration /s

It's amazing how so many administrationa have been reading the plain language of so many laws incorrectly for so many decades. Thank God Trump came along to make us see how laws don't matter.

I don't understand how many people still support him (and this administration). They are so amazingly corrupt and self-serving and hypocritical it boggles the mind. To sit back and say with a straight face that the PRA 'serves no legislative purpose' when it was written because of Nixon and Watergate so that everything the President does is public knowledge - not hidden away. Now why would someone be opposed to this kind of transparency? "The lady doth protest too much, methinks" Clearly I'm venting. Back from a holiday with no news/technology only to read about this and new ineptitudes and illegalities. Awesome.

Trump might be able to monetize some of it if he keeps it. Some would be evidence if left behind, and the rest might prove what an idiot he was and how he was surrounded by psychotic buffoons.
