India has largest thorium reserves. The third stage of this 3 stage reactor would use thorium as fuel along with uranium 233 produced from this 2nd Stage reactor. This would solve India's energy needs for atleast 400-500 years. Hope I live long enough to see Homi Baba's dream turn into reality.

Legend Homi Bhabha, he was project director of indian nuclear programme(conspiracy: murdered by CIA in a plane crash 13 days after pm Shastri died suspiciously in Uzbekistan after announcing India is 18 months away from becoming nuclear superpower)

Homi baba was assassinated no doubt about it

I'm sick of these buzzwords over the thorium reactors. Yes India is pursuing the long term goal of a network of thorium reactors but this part of the project is just a breeder reactor so they have to rely less on their heavy water reactors. Its only direct relation to thorium is the fact that their both nuclear.

No it ain't like that. Indian FBRs are meant for a different or can say a part of bigger process. It's not just to recycle the wastes from PHWRs but to produce U-233 by using thorium blankets to produce U-233 which is different purpose from its counterpart programmes. This is all for India to run Throium based reactors which uses U-233 as a fuel but for that likely our FBRs have to run for 10-15 years to produce enough to start the thorium reactors.

F*** you CIA for Homibaba

India has about a quarter of the entire worlds thorium reserves. If thorium reactors (which seems to be well accepted as the next nuclear fission reactor milestone) take off, then it could turn India into the "Middle East" of nuclear.  Even if that doesn't happen it could stop india from relying on raw uranium imports and fossil fuels. This is comparable to the shale oil fracking revolution in the US Of course, india has their work cut out for them with regard to actually building up commerical thorium reactors

India running a reactor cannot possibly end well edit: some people dont like lil jokes huh

Familiar_Double2586 Apr 8, 2026 +70
Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, Fukushima - these are incidents in advanced countries. India has been running a successful nuclear program for over 70 years.

We are just downvoting your ignorant comment in the hope that others would be spared having to read it. Show some respect.

I didn’t think some people would be burdened in the aftermath of this… that’s on me

ButterscotchLoud151 Apr 10, 2026 +1
You don't know how to crack a joke?
1
slimeyy_02 Apr 8, 2026 +20
Well if you want to know the intellectual capacity of racists these comments are the best. Guy doesn't even have a clue that there are different types of reactors for different purposes. Probably didn't even bothered to read the article. Wild to think that we live among such things.

It’s a small joke relax. And very funny you aim to be the moral high ground while referring to other humans as “things”. Interesting dehumanizing language you use.
-4
AggravatingJudge7092 Apr 8, 2026 +15
Oh the travesty! He used "dehumanising" language against a..... racist neckbeard. Sounds like an apt response to me.  And you keep saying it's a "joke". This "joke" has no setup and the only punchline is ignorance.

UnevenContainer Apr 8, 2026 -2
Are you that miserable that you can’t identify a joke and not cry over it?
-2
dhaliman Apr 8, 2026 +50
Do I sense a bit of prejudice here? Obviously.

UnevenContainer Apr 8, 2026 -35
I sense people cant take a lil jab every now and again
-35
dhaliman Apr 8, 2026 +46
Yeah casual racism is just so welcome right?
46
UnevenContainer Apr 8, 2026 -29
Listen, if you can't take a lighthearted joke like this I am unable to help you.
-29
dhaliman Apr 8, 2026 +49
That wasn’t exactly lighthearted. You were being racist. And now when I’ve called you out, you are trying to brush it under the rug? You really aren’t a very polished person, are you?
49
UnevenContainer Apr 8, 2026 -10
It was lighthearted, you're the one going nuclear over it. And I'm sure you're such a sophisticated and elite person, I am sorry for even talking to you outside my caste. Spare me dude.
-10
dhaliman Apr 8, 2026 +40
I don’t talk to idiots, I’ve realised you are one. This conversation is over.

UnevenContainer Apr 8, 2026 -4
Thank you for gracing me with your brief presence sir.

Out_and_about_home Apr 9, 2026 +14
“Boohoo, why are you guys not taking my lighthearted racism as a joke? let me play my caste card to get sympathy now.”
14
UnevenContainer Apr 9, 2026 +1
Oh I’m not Indian or in a caste, that’s a stupid system

Out_and_about_home Apr 9, 2026 +4
Why are you focusing on denying smaller allegations while being silent about being called racists lmao.

you'd not have commented the same for Japan but evryone still remembers the 2011 fukushima incident........ FYI India remains Asia's first country to ever operate a civil nuclear reactor right back from 1956
56
UnevenContainer Apr 8, 2026 -19
Fukushima was because of a natural disaster
-19
FunLoan5201 Apr 8, 2026 +46
a natural disaster leading to a nuclear disaster...... also the fukushima nuclear reactor was poorly maintained

Cold-Wonder-7303 Apr 8, 2026 +35
You still didnt answer me. Why cant india run a nuclear reactor
35
jedidude75 Apr 8, 2026 +3
> You still didnt answer me. You never asked that question
3
Foxdonut12001 Apr 8, 2026 +3
Did you just change accounts? You didn't ask a question.
3
UnevenContainer Apr 8, 2026 -6
I don't see your initial question anywhere so I'm not sure what to answer to.
-6
Cold-Wonder-7303 Apr 8, 2026 +14
I am asking why cant it end well if india runs a nuclear reactor
14
wormki Apr 8, 2026 -9
You evidently didn't post your question you wanted an answer to, so stop beeing a passive aggressive edgelord
-9
Cold-Wonder-7303 Apr 8, 2026 +13
I am not being passive aggresive. And if you had eyes youd see the first reply to his comment was mine asking the question. If hes implying that india is somehow incompetent at nuclear power then he should know that the first nuclear power plant in india began in 1969. I am sure the indians know what they are doing
13
UnevenContainer Apr 8, 2026 +4
are you Indian by chance?
4
wormki Apr 8, 2026
[As you see here](https://imgur.com/a/S3ThEFV), there is no first commet from you asking a question. Your first comment is demanding an answer. Also you definitely do not know the meaning of a meme and what a joke is.

I've seen what happens with trains in India, so just extrapolating
-5
dhaliman Apr 8, 2026 +21
They run just fine. What exactly happens with trains in India? Doesn’t India run one of the largest railway network in the world? You’re a f****** dumb c***. Go get fucked. Please.
21
Cold-Wonder-7303 Apr 8, 2026 +22
What happens with trains? Genuinely confused. I live in India and travel by trains just fine
22
UnevenContainer Apr 8, 2026 +2
just see lots of indians on packed trains and generally practicing unsafe habits around trains

Do you even know how many of those videos from Bangladesh and/or Pakistan get attribute to India? Or how many older videos still surface online?
17
Youmassacredmyboy Apr 9, 2026 +9
If I got a penny every time racists used "it's just a joke" to cover their ass after getting pushback, I'd be the richest person on earth.
